Came for Alchemix Game Night, which was a free event where you are paired up with a group of random people (for us 4 other people signed up) and play a game intended to spark deep convos. It was actually more fun than I was expecting and the host (who owns the bar, Josh) was great at facilitating. The drinks were fine (price was fine, selection was fine, nothing too spectacular). The space itself is also fine. I'm not sure I would necessarily come here just to pop in for a drink but the vibe is cool. There were a lot of people studying when we got there late/early Saturday night, so could consider coming here for that purpose. But as much as I was skeptical of the game night, would recommend at least trying it out with a few friends. read more

Was in the neighborhood and in dire need of caffeine on a fairly warm day. I ordered an iced cappuccino for myself and an iced coffee for my other half. The space is open and modern and the lady who took my order (and made my drinks) seemed friendly. Unfortunately I wasn't a fan of the beans they used. This is my neighborhood coffee spot and I used to love it but the barista (very large, pretty tall, brunette baby banged shaggy haired, white woman) you had yesterday is making this place look AWFUL. This person not only gave me a disgusting, lukewarm, non-sweetened(apparently they're not allowed to sweeten or they get yelled at), iced mocha (the mocha being a powdered mix that just thickly sits at the bottom of the cup) with the wrong milk(she gave me almond when I ordered whole, her coworker/cashier confirmed - I have an allergy but thankfully it's not severe) her attitude was smug (when asking her why couldn't she remember my order, which she had just made seconds ago, she'd said she was tired and had been working since 7...it was 11:30), she was gossiping about return customers and when I'd said thank you when I received my coffee she just continued her convo, barely sliding the coffee over to me...she was also trying to talk me into buying flavors to make the shitty coffee better! This place is a necessity to the neighborhood, as you can see, but when you have white folks who clearly don't give a fuck working in a space that's for the people of color in a neighborhood filled mostly with people of color, it once again shows that white people have the ability to come into our spaces and make it to their liking and get away with it. This is a neighborhood spot which is really cool. They serve coffee & libations. The music is pumping & the staff is nice too. When you walk in there is seating on both sides until the bar area. Ppl are lounging with their laptops. Definitely giving cafe vibes. To the back is a stage where karaoke is performed. The bar is to the left. Ordered a drink at as I waited for someone. I decided to check this place out to work at ok a Friday afternoon. It's hard finding a cafe where you don't feel weird pulling out your laptop. I have my 2 go to places in Queens but I'll def be adding this to my list. It's very airy and the music is on point (mostly rnb that day). They also had a board on the wall that updated when the song changed. It was so creative. There are table lined up against the wall and they were all pretty much occupied but it didn't feel crowded. I ordered an iced chai latte which tasted like any other chai. They seem to have small food/pastries here to but I didn't try any of them. I would say I recommend this place to work/study from but I don't want this place to get too crowded. So I "won't" recommend it lol read more

TLDR: amazing options for food & drink, perfect ambience for working, studying, or socializing! prices are pretty reasonable considering they have a lot of local products. super friendly and helpful staff! walked by here the other day and thought, i really needed to stop by here to get some work done. finally got the chance to come today to get work done, and i have nothing to say but WOW! the place is perfectly located super close to where i live in an otherwise pretty quiet ocean hill, and not only that, it's probably one of the best cafe spaces i've ever been to in terms of a cozy environment. it was a gorgeous sunny day, and not only do they have outdoor seating, but they keep the windows open so you can get sunlight and lots of fresh air. so many times that i go to cafes, i'm left with having to sit outside (where my computer could get overheated and with no chargers around) or feel cooped up inside, especially on a nice day like today! so this was exactly what i was looking for. they have bathrooms, free wi-fi, a little library of books to take to read, games, printer, community board, and so much more. my review alone doesn't do this place justice. now, as for the food, YUM! the vegan burrito is really great, and check out their HUGE hot sauce collection for their burritos! note that they're pre-made, so you're not able to customize them unfortunately (the vegetarian one that egg-based comes with cheese, so if you have an allergy or avoid dairy, the vegan one would be the only option). they were unfortunately out of bagels (my first choice) for today, but i'm hoping next time i come, they have some! i also ordered their pomegranate green tea, which wasn't my favorite because it wasn't as strong as i'd like it, but i'll definitely return for another flavor and some coffee! they also offer chamomile, hibiscus, and lavender syrup! super unique and fun! the staff here is SUPER friendly, some of the most friendly baristas i've interacted with within brooklyn/manhattan, which is such an added plus! they also have lots of events (and also has a book club that they just started), which is SUPER exciting for me as a local of the area. so glad i came across this place. a little unclear whether there's been ownership recognition, but the staff registered for union membership last november after facing significant schedule cuts amongst other concerns. to me, as a customer, it feels like the absolutely correct move that the workers should have more ownership over their labor and work environment, and the place should be as inviting/welcoming to its staff as they are to the customers! read more

Terrible service. I arrived at 7:20 AM -- well after their stated opening time -- only to find the staff had not yet opened. When I asked what time they open, one of the girls rudely replied, "We open when we open," then turned her back on me. On top of that, they got my order wrong and refused to correct it, forcing me to pay again. This kind of attitude and lack of accountability is exactly why some establishments struggle -- no ownership, no customer care. I found this spot after using Google to find a cafe that was large enough and has Wi-Fi. It was fairly easy to find there's no parking lot so you have to park on the street. Inside is very spacious and they have a small soundstage for performances. The service sucked however. I wasn't greated. I let the server know it was my first time and it was shrugged off. I asked for a coffee recommendation and didn't get one. As far the food and drink. They do have a small bar. I order an apple turnover pastry and a vanilla Latte. They we're both good. My guest, a female didn't get better service when she went to order a food and get a recommendation. I won't be back that's for sure. It would have been nice for the server to be more welcoming and accommodating. It didn't help when tue servee placed my coffee in front of two other female patrons and went to grab it from them when I asked about my latte after 13 minutes. read more

Super great coffee and the food is nice when I'm looking for something fast and simple.

The service here is DISGUSTING. According to Google, the shop was supposed to be opened, but they weren't. I waited 43 minutes. There was a young lady inside who came to open the door for another employee, I asked her what time will the store open and she replies "when I finish setting up, it could take a while." So I continued to wait. The female employee came out, opened the door to put the sign up, and allowed the door to slam in my face. She did not say good morning or hold the door for me. The other employee signaled me in. This was very disappointing because I'm 4 months pregnant and really wanted the almond croissant that I purchased. Hopefully, she'll learn how to treat customers since my colleagues also expressed similar experiences with her. read more

THIS IS MY FAVORITE BAR IN ALL OF NEW YORK. It is LITERALLY a second home! All who come are made to feel like a part of a community. It's a great place to network, and work during the day, and a great place to let loose/connect with friends at night. They make a killer matcha latte by day during cafe hours, and a great "Tea-quila Sour" cocktail by night during bar hours! Lots of different events throughout the week like Chess Night on Mondays, Open Mic Night on Wednesdays, and Karaoke on Fridays, and Trivia Night twice a month on Saturdays! Looking for a change of scenery from your place with WiFi and expresso? Daily Press is your spot. Totally unsuspecting to have a cool cafe in the Ocean Hill area of Brooklyn. As a born and raised Brooklyn girl, I say this with all due respect but Daily Press has made the corner of Rockaway and Somers shi shi. Not sure this neighborhood previously offered coffee just liquor, but it is a surprising yet welcomed addition. The space is beautiful with its exposed brick and large opening bay windows. I sat sipping on a skim mocha latte in a cute ceramic cup listening to Ska music. Love. The stapled breakfast egg and cheese burrito was good but could have been slightly bigger for my preference but it was tasty. I am giving it only three stars because of a few qualms I had. The butter seemed to be unsalted. Don't make decisions on my health. Give me the unhealthy stuff, thanks. My latte didn't have enough of a caffeinated kick. It was mild and they could probably use a stronger bean. I would make another visit because I love a clean space and an engaging staff (older gentleman). read more

This coffee shop was across from a friend's Airbnb so we stopped in for a quick cup before heading out to Manhattan. The cafe is quite spacious for NYC, with lots of tables and seating available. Looks like a good place to stay for a while if you need to get some work done, or just to relax. I actually ended up getting a kombucha from their cooler, but my friend got an iced coffee to go. The staff was very friendly and the service was prompt. I would have liked to stay longer inside, but we had some errands to run. I was in Brooklyn visiting a friend for her birthday and we stopped here. I ordered the Chai tea with soy milk. I really enjoyed my drink it was just perfect !! The customer service here exceeded my expectations. Everyone was very friendly and helpful !! The atmosphere is vintage and quiet. a great space to do some homework or office work, if you want to get out of the house. Very comfortable space. This place was down the street from our AirBnB. I got an apple turnover and their maple tea latte drink. Boyfriend got an Americano-ish drink and a waffle. He thought the waffle was dense. I wasn't all that impressed with my apple turnover flavor wise and it lacked filling, but it was very flaky and I liked that a lot. I wished my tea latte had been a tad bit sweeter considering there was a shot of maple in it. The shop itself is nice and quiet. I like that they had cider on draft that day, but we didn't come back to try it. It's interesting for me to see a shop like this in Bedstuy as a few years ago, a coffee shop like this wouldn't be open. I grew up in Bedstuy, so I didn't really know what to expect when this popped up on Yelp. It was a nice breakfast we had before going to my family's home for the day. I like that they have a lot of options of bagels, but they're not as good as bagels at NYC places like Bagel Bobs. The scone was very underwhelming. I'd honestly give it 2 stars. But the coffee and burritos here are better than their scones I suppose. What I really liked was the kind service, the fact that you can hold community events here, and it's not too popular, so it's actually a quiet environment you can work in. I just ordered single shot espresso and the coffee beans are so strong and robust. The staff is friendly and greeted me with a smile. Anytime I get an espresso from a coffee shop I always ask for seltzer water and they had no problem providing that for me. The seltzer was Saratoga water and that's my favorite seltzer. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised and excited to try this cafecito. The atmosphere is coming with the sounds of the great Macy Gray radio playing in the background and tons of natural light spewing in from all of the large windows. Update: I met Michael, the owner of this coffee shop, and it was clear that he is open to feedback and working to make this a place that meets the needs of people in this community. Michael is open to suggestions and also opening up his space/renting out his space for events. For instance, I attended a Karaoke Brunch from 6-9 on Cinqo de Mayo organized by a member of the community and there was a book signing held there the following day. If you are interested in having this space represent you or people like you in the neighborhood, I would recommend speaking to Michael and working with him to help bring your ideas to life. I really wanted to give this place a chance & was really hoping it would be a great neighborhood coffee shop since it is so close. I visited on the opening day and read up about the coffee shop online and how they try to highlight the history of the community. Unfortunately it turned out to be a gentrification cafe that does not take into account anything from the surrounding neighborhood. They sell Daily Press Bed-Stuy merchandise in a neighborhood called Ocean Hill by any of its long term inhabitants. In a neighborhood that is 85% Black & 2% white (according to the last census), all of the people who I have seen work there are white along with about 90% of the customers I have seen patronize the shop. In a neighborhood where the median household income was last reported at around $27,000, they sell coffee for $3-$5 & charge $7-8 for a breakfast burrito. There doesn't seem to be any real attempt at connecting to and catering to the needs/culture/history of the majority of the people in this neighborhood, as though they are just holding out hope that gentrification will speed up soon. I have seen gentrification run rampant throughout Brooklyn over the years and this is always how it begins...profit over community. In addition to these concerns, I also had health concerns. I was served coffee and noticed that all of the milk/cream was left out on the counter unrefrigerated. I ordered a bagel with cream cheese and noticed that they used spreaders that already had cream cheese/butter/etc. on them without even rinsing or wiping them in between uses. I have decided that I will pass on this place and take a longer walk over to a true neighborhood coffee shop (Bread Love) unless I see a big change. read more
