All of this we ate on a picnic bench with the summer sun overhead; nothing could have been more pleasant. Sadly, we could consume no more after this feast and left without any dairy joy. The lobster roll was delicious (pricy but sometimes you pay for the experience) and the clams were quite tasty. My brother got the fried shrimp and fries which were also quite good. This place used to be good but it is clear a case of owner greed and corner cutting. For the cost if a simple cheeseburger you would expect better meat than a previously frozen preformed garbage sirloin patty purchased from the Costco a 3.5 miles down the street. Be the local favorite again, use fresh better quality ingredients. The customer base has dried up so they've increased their prices and lowered quality. Went here last night and at first I was going to go solely for the ice cream because a friend of mine posted a picture on Facebook and it looked delicious. We ended up getting dinner first which consisted of a shrimp plate, scallop plate, fish and chips and 3 small sodas. While our dinner was good it was expensive for three people ($70+ for what I listed above!!!!!!) and the portions were not very large at all. The girls working the front were nice enough. They were fairly new -they told us so- but they didn't even know what came in the scallop/shrimp plates. There's not much on the menu so I'm not sure why they haven't learned what's on the menu yet. The only thing I'd go back here for is the java berry ice cream. That was delicious and I can see it being very refreshing on a hot summer day!!! read more

I went one night after work and paid $24.00 for 10 little scallops. It was supposed to be a scallop plate. Nothing else came with it. I had to buy a drink separately and an order of French fries separately also, which cost more money! Such a big rip off! Never again will I go there! Every year, we look forward to celebrating Spring with a visit to Dairy Joy. This year's visit was a terrible disappointment. The burger was just fine....no complaints. The grilled cheese sandwich was burned on one side and the cheese wasn't even melted on the other. The fries were really lousy - not crispy, kind of greasy and not what I was looking forward to at all. The soft serve was just plain yucky. It was chalky and the chocolate/vanilla swirl was pretty lame. (Hardly any chocolate or vanilla taste at all.) The whipped cream machine was not working right so they splurted out some wet mess on top of the ice cream. The hot fudge tasted like it came out of a great big can from 1983. This wasn't a bad day. A bad day could explain the grilled cheese and the sloppy whipped cream mess. My father loves fried clams etc and my mom used to go Dairy Joy when she was younger. A friend told me about a place in Weston that had fried clams and ice cream, so decided to take my parents there for lunch. This is a classic walk up window type of place. It gave me this Happy Days feeling (if that makes sense). Prices were a bit high but seafood prices fluctuate so much I'll forgive it from time to time. My dad got a seafood plate while my mom got some clam strips and sweet potato fries. I opted for a sandwich as I knew they wouldn't eat all of theirs and could 'help' them finish. My parents both gave rave reviews of the food. The batter was just right and cooked well (not under or over done). Portion size was on point as well. They didn't get dessert but I went for a soft serve vanilla and it was by far one of the best I've had. Other than some market prices a little high overall a nice spot for lunch. This totally reminds me of the sketchastic shack of an ice cream stand we went to while putt-putting in Manassas, VA. Except that Dairy Joy serves way more than just dairy - I witnessed some serious scarfing of all sorts of unhealthy goodies from mouthwateringly delicious-looking fries to gigantic burgers and chicken fingers. I can only speak to the "small" javaberry cone dipped in chocolate shell that I wolfed down. It was "small" in the sense that Andre the Giant is small. I can't imagine anyone actually polishing off a medium or larger, because I spent a good fifteen minutes trying to finish the serving I was offered. In the future, I'd recommend shying away from their famed javaberry flavor unless you have a particularly heinous sweet tooth. This was way more like ultra-sugary sorbet than the coffee-flavored decadence I was expecting. Regardless, when in Lincoln, do as the Lincolnites do and drive your big-ass pickup truck and park your duff outside on the old-school picnic benches for the deliciously dipped dairy delights offered up by Dairy Joy. read more

I feel badly writing this but think I should. We've gone for years. We know it's expensive, We know it's cash and no bathroom. But we've gone anyway, love the seafood and the ambiance. But again today, as it always is, the tables are not cleaned between people. In fact, they are gross. Lots of leftover food and drips of ice cream. Seafood platter (29.95) consisted of 2 fish chunks, 2 fried shrimp 6 scallops and 6 fried clams, 2 onion rings and maybe fries that in size were comparable to a McDonald's small fry. Served on a small paper platter to look like more food. Bag felt empty and nearly weightless before opening. Fried clam plate was maybe 10 fried clams and some fries (26.95). Total for 2 kid sized meals and as 61.50 Portions were good for the waistline but WAY OVERPRICED. I get it, it's Weston but customers are getting the FULL #%^** here. Never again. read more

This was not my first visit to Dairy Joy and I feel the quality of the food continues to decline while menu prices steadily climb. This cute little drive-up restaurant has so much potential and it is frustrating to see such a lack of effort from the management. My parents and I discovered this cute little spot a few years back and it became one of our favorite destinations for a quick road trip and lunch on a summer Saturday afternoon. The building is a charming little shack with take out windows and outdoor seating nestled on a peaceful, wooded setting. The food here is definitely overpriced! Although it is a very casual takeout, be prepared to drop a lot of cash here. My parents each had a cheeseburger yesterday and I ordered the fish sandwich. A few years ago I thought their burgers had a better char-grilled type of flavor to them, but they are now just a very average frozen beef patty. The fish sandwich was extremely dry, but it was a decent sized portion of fish - if only it tasted better. If you want fries with your sandwich you need to order the "Cheeseburger Special" or "Fish Sandwich Special"- this is how they refer to their combo meals. The menu is a little bit confusing until you get used to it. After lunch I went back up for ice cream which was delicious. Of course it's hard to go wrong with soft serve chocolate vanilla twist with sprinkles. I love the country setting at Dairy Joy and enjoy sitting out on the picnic benches. The only problem is there is not enough shade. There is one table that seems to be in full shade while the others are in direct sunlight. Across the parking lot you will also find a couple tables near the woods as another shaded option if the sun is too much. I think a few umbrellas on the tables would be helpful. Dairy Joy is probably best for ice cream only since the food is definitely lacking. I would love to see management make some improvements because this little take out could really be such a gem. read more

The last two places I have gotten big plates of fried clams, at two of the bigname North Shore outfits, they have been quite meh, to put it nicely, meaning overdone. So when I drove by DJ today, I thought Hmm, should I? It was fabulous. Pricy, maybe too pricy, but just perfect --- not overfried, juicy, and an almost fair amount for $49. Plus a small, perfect simply terrific lobster roll, also pricy, but whatever. I don't know if it is a new fry cook, somehow I think new, or the same as in the past, but they do a great job. I shall save up, then, and go back for more perfect fried clams. Will make the damn lobster at home myself :) . read more

I have been to Dairy Joy many, many times over a 15 year span. I love their atmosphere, food and ice cream. I know Dairy Joy is extremely over priced, yet have continued to give my money to this business. Today, Dairy Joy hit a new low. I stopped to buy 2 small javaberry cones and was given the tiniest amount of ice cream I have ever seen on a cone. When I mentioned that this amount was about half of what I typically had gotten to the cashier, I was met by an extremely rude "Well, I guess everyone else wasn't doing it right." When I ordered a small, I expected the same size I had always gotten. Had I know I would have received such a small amount, I wouldn't have paid for it. This was not a teenage employee still learning to speak to customers - this was an older man who should understand how to deal with the public. He offered no apology, no explanation, and no trying to make it right. I will not be returning. No one needs to be treated so rudely by an employee.
