    Clam strips
    April T.

Enjoyed our lunch and ice cream here! We got the orchard panini and fried clam strips and finished off the meal with the javaberry ice cream. Everything was delicious but definitely overpriced. So I took a mark off for it. A medium cone costing almost 9 dollars felt a little ridiculous.

If you can't get to the shore, there's no better place to enjoy fried clams on a hot summer night. Great old-timey drive-in vibe, with favorites like soft-serve ice cream with dip tops and root beer floats. I've been frustrated that I could never find a comprehensive online menu, so I'm including photos of their current menu as of summer 2025. It's expensive and cash only, so be prepared.

Nice vintage vibe ice cream and classic American food spot in Weston. My family and I go every spring/summer. I had Lobster Roll (pretty good - solid) Dairy free chocolate cake ice cream (good, but should order after I ate, as melted bit)

Changed chicken tenders- not worth the money anymore.

Mediocre food for a high price. For $16 I would expect my burger to actually taste like something. Great for the rich folk.

The fact that the ice cream counter…read moreis never staffed (you have to get the coffee shop workers on the other side of the wall to assist you), is Big Clue #1 that something is awry. Big Clue #2 that they're not a *real* ice cream shop: I think their ice cream has been sitting around in those freezer chests for a long, long time. My scoop of pumpkin very well might have been left over from last year (it was both chewy and crunchy), and the consistency of my chocolate chip scoop was not much better. Plus, it literally (and I mean literally) only had two chocolate chips in it. Two! In an entire scoop! The last time I had ice cream here (probably a year ago), the quality was fine. Perhaps it's the same batch--just a year later? Who knows. Big Clue #3: Coffee shops and ice cream shops really are catering to different clientele--who'd like to patronize said businesses at different hours. Who ever heard of an ice cream shop that closed at 6pm? I really, really, really wanted to fall madly in love with Sebastian's when this place first opened nearly two years ago. I totally envisioned myself hunkered in at one of their tables, a bowl of artisinal ice cream laid out in front of me while penning my very own heartbreaking work of staggering genius. Oh well . . . I'm not going to blame Sebastian for my writer's drought, but I do take his name in vain each and every time I find myself succumbing to Friendly's. Grrr.

Actually, I'm sitting in Cafe on the Common right now and the ac is crisp and cold and the jazz music music is filtering in at just the right volume. Great new place and looks closed from the outside (due to the dark tint) but is a beautiful space of dark wicker chairs and granite tables with local art featured on the birch paneled walls. All the ice cream is churned out by hand and homemade. They use fresh fruit (and offer more fresh fruit toppings than Lizzy's albeit less dry toppings like KitKats, Oreos, coconut, etc.).

Highly recommend their ice cream especially on these hot summer days. But I'd like to tell you about their nutritious & delicious homemade Chicken Noodle and Red Lentil soups that they make to order served in $6.00 take-out pint containers. You can get them only by ordering one day in advance -- to ensure they don't sit on the shelf unsold for too long [because this is mainly an ice cream shop, most don't know of this homemade soup option... kind of a hidden menu item]. Each soup is lovingly made with quality ingredients to satisfy both your taste buds and health goals alike. I order at least two of each about every two weeks and put them in my fridge. Easy to heat up for a delicious quick meal w/a sandwich. That's the scoop on the soups. You can call them (617-393-0136) or walk-in to order their soups a day-ahead of pickup.

We…read morecame in with high hopes given the amount of rave reviews, and seeing they had a 5 star rating! Truly, hats off to them because that is extremely hard to do. Now for our visit: * We came here for fro-yo and when my friend ordered a small chocolate fro-yo, they proceeded to let her try the chocolate hard ice cream. Me and her were both confused in the moment * While she was eating her sample of the chocolate hard ice cream, they said there's no fro-yo, only hard ice cream * I then tried the chocolate hard ice cream since there was no fro-yo and it tasted like freezer burned chocolate ice cream, so on a whim I got a kiddie sized cookies & cream with rainbow sprinkles * The cookies & cream tub was nearly hitting the bottom (signifying an empty level) and the flavor of the cookies & cream was also freezer burned and tasteless so I can't help but wonder if these ice cream tubs had been sitting there for a while. Neither the chocolate nor cookies & cream tasted fresh, and the consistency was really off (see photos) * I was given my kiddie cup of cookies & cream and wanted sprinkles, which was a self service for me to add toppings. That part also surprised me since you wonder the cleanliness of this (for example, some people might take their ice cream and put it in upside down to add sprinkles to their cup, or use their hands who knows) or in my case, I tried using the spoon to top off my ice cream and so many sprinkles went everywhere. I felt so bad for the mess it made on the counter!! Most fro-yo places are self service when it comes to toppings, but this felt interesting for us to put our own toppings on hard ice cream * I cleaned up the sprinkles that fell on the counter, only to have a hard time opening the trash since it had dried up ice cream all over it. It was covered with dry ice cream all on the top and sides of the bin. An idea would be to use a foot pedal trash can so it doesn't require people to touch the physical trash bin like I had to * The staff was super nice + maybe this was an off day because it's the winter, and I'm sure the fro-yo really is good. I'd still give their fro-yo a try!

The first thing that stood out was the portion size and value. For around $7.50 you get two scoops of ice cream with whipped cream, a cherry, and a topping of your choice, which already feels generous. If you go for the regular size, you actually get three scoops, which makes it even better for sharing. There are so many flavors available, and we were happy to see that many of the ice creams are eggless, which is great for vegetarians. The texture of the ice cream was incredibly creamy, and the coffee ice cream was especially delicious with a rich, smooth flavor. We also tried the nachos, which were surprisingly really good and made a nice savory snack before dessert. Between the big portions, classic ice cream flavors, and nostalgic dessert-parlor vibe, Cabot's definitely feels like a local hidden gem in the Newtonville area.
