***DON'T ORDER THE CHICKEN*** This Dairy Queen really needs two scores. A four-star review for most everything on the menu and the service, which is fine. And a one-star review for the Chicken Strip Basket and Southern Style Chicken Sandwich, which are not as advertised or like you'd get in any other DQ in Texas... The chicken you get from the Burnet DQ, unlike everywhere else, is tan and flaky instead of dark-brown and crispy. And the 'Southern Style Chicken Sandwich' is just two such chicken strips between two buns. Yesterday, I had a DQ Country Basket (aka "Steak Finger Basket") for the first time in over 10 years. (There are maybe 4 DQs in Austin; none have ever been very near me until recently.) I had very fond memories of this being my absolutely satisfying go-to meal at the Azle, Texas, DQ back in the early '80s, and I'd been to a few since then, always ordering the same thing and always finding that it still hit the spot. In my 2015 visit, though, on Burnet Road in Austin: First of all... a 4-piece Country Basket and small Coke cost $8.64!! Huh?? No. Just...No. Nothing from a wide variety of fast-food places -- McDonald's, Taco Bell, DQ -- should EVER cost $8.64. Second of all... the fries weren't thin, as in the past (and like the photo here); they were thick and tasted of grease. The gravy, though, WAS thin. The fingers themselves were OK. Nothing "hit the spot." $6 or so and not quite hitting the spot is OK, but...at $8.64? Crazy. Never going back to DQ again. (I always liked their burgers, too, but Whataburger is just as good, and several dollars cheaper.) read more

Fastest Wi-Fi we've found yet in Austin. Staff does NOT have high turnover, many there for quite a few years. That says something about a fast-food joint. Owner apparently went to a lot of trouble to make this place a lot better than the 'typical' DQ. Been going there for years & never had an order wrong. Everything is always clean and neat. Staff always friendly. Favorite for the family. What more could you want outside of a 5 star restaurant? read more

I've been going to Dairy Queen since I was a kid. There was a park that I've been going to for the past 15 years in San Antonio that had a DQ very close by. I would enjoy a strawberry cheesecake blizzard in my car and stay in the shade when the summers were too hot. The DQ was old school and very nostalgic, moreso than this one. However, this DQ is wonderfully modern and electronically equipped. The place is spotless -- even the restrooms. The most standout part of it all was the service. Even during the late hours, the staff was patient and hospitable. This DQ never disappoints. read more

After reading the reviews for this place I was reticent to eat there but decided to give it a try anyway. I was surprised. The place was clean. The service was friendly. The ice cream treats we bought were great. My only complaint was that the fries I ordered weren't hot. They still tasted fresh they just weren't hot. I frequently visit another DQ in South Austin off of Stassney but I don't think I will be going there anymore. This was was much better. I will eat there again. read more

Mayfield DQ's are absolutely hands down the best DQ's in Texas. The owners take pride in their service and quality of food. My wife loves the unique hand breaded chicken that separates them from the others. We eat here all of the time and will continue ordering that good hand breaded chicken! read more

Driving around and had a craving. DQ ice cream was a must at that point. Got up to the window and asked for a minute and the guy on the other end told me it would cost a quarter per minute or 5 minutes for a dollar. For some reason this joking around made my night. I told him the Dilly Bars look like boobs and he had never noticed before but I think he appreciated the new image. This Dairy Queen is open late so we stopped by for a Strawberry Cheesecake Blizzard and a banana split. When they handed us the blizzard it looked like strawberry ice cream. We asked if we could have some strawberry cheesecake chunks and they gave us four. My banana split had a tiny amount of toppings. When I went inside to complain, they put a bit more toppings on my banana split and in reference to the blizzard, they said, "That's how they're made, look at the picture." We have contacted Dairy Queen customer service and they said that the store has received a copy of our complaint and they still haven't contacted us. This location is open late, but if they are going to provide this level of service, they really should close early and save people the hassle and trouble of going to a place that is open late but doesn't care about their customers. read more

We stopped by to get an ice cream simple order one small cone and one large hot fudge sundae. After waiting for over five minutes for the cashier to come and help the gentleman in front of us. The cashier was real eager to hand out numbers which is fine but for ice cream!!! We sat at a table and waited and waited. After about 15 minutes we were noticing people who had arrived after us getting hot food served. At that point and 20 minutes we returned to the cashier. waited again for a couple of minutes to even get someone to even acknowledge us, then to tell us thank you for coming. I then told this cashier we would like our money back as we were tired of waiting and seeing people who had come in quite a while after us being served. She stepped back and said that our number had just come up,right. Then she informed me my order did not match the number that he had given us. After looking over my ticket and complaining about the computer she gave me back my money. I had to ask for a I'm sorry or anything. I was then informed she was coming to that but wanted to give me my change back,which had already happened. I was made to feel like the bad guy by the look she gave me and the rolled eyes to the next customer waiting. I found the "BEST" lunch deal in town! I'm talking from price to the great taste of the food plus fantastic service. Each day from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm, they have a $5.00 DEAL...yes, that's right and I get the cheeseburger (mouth watering good), french fries, home brewed sweet tea that is some of the best I've ever had and a sundae for dessert. You get all of that for only $5.00..... Heck, you can even upgrade to a blizzard if you prefer it over a sundae for only a buck, yes, that's right blizzard lover's! I was fortunate enough to have Josh greet me with his big smile that will welcome anyone who walks through the door and Eric, the manager on duty did a great job by talking to each customer and making sure their needs had been met.
