This location has always been stingy with the amount of ingredients in a blizzard, but today was the worst. We got a medium size blizzard which came to over $7.00 with tax. When we got to the window, instead of the blizzard we ordered, we were presented with a screen to add a tip. What?? We had not yet received our order, so what was I supposed to tip on? Driving home from an errand and decided I wanted a chocolate sundae. We talked about where to go and based on prior experiences ending in disappointment, he said let's go to DQ. I haven't been to DQ in a long time so why not. Did the drive through and it seemed like everyone else had the same idea as the line was long. Pandemic dessert emergency. Luckily the wait was decent and soon we were at the ordering call box thingy. Got a chocolate sundae medium sized. She handed him the sundae and off we went. My first impression of the sundae was that it was small. If that's what the medium is I'm glad I didn't get the small. Should have gotten the large. The ice cream was creamy and tasty. Enough chocolate sauce on it that it was a chocolate sundae and rich in texture. My only regret was the size. Barely scratched my craving. read more

Castle Rock DQ was struggling tonight. Overwhelmed by orders from the BOGO blizzard promotion. Staff was moving quickly but quality really suffered. I was waiting and got my blizzards right when they were completed, but the consistency was completely soupy (no way they could have turned it upside down). Ate the first couple spoonfuls of blizzard (flavor was good) and realized the toppings only went down about an inch...the rest was plain vanilla soft serve. Prices have continued to rise and the quality (at least at this location) has really gone down hill. The fact that a small blizzard is nearly $6 is pretty ridiculous when you consider that you can buy a gourmet pint at the grocery store for less than that, and the quality is so much better. We honestly never go anymore unless there's a deal on the app. Even with the BOGO deal this time, we were still disappointed. read more

I can understand that in order to compete and stay relevant DQ had to evolve into offering fast food because ice cream/ frozen yogurt alone is too narrow an offering. The problem is that although DQ does well with their ice cream their fast food is below average. I had their food a few times and this time tried one of their special sandwiches (pulled pork) but it was small and barely average for me. My daughter ordered the chicken tenders and ate about half of it and resorted to just eating her small blizzard. If she had McNuggets those would have been destroyed in a heartbeat. The food there is not horrible but there just isn't anything about it that makes you want to go there vs. other fast food places. I feel like the only reason to eat the food there is if I am craving a blizzard and don't have the time or the will to get food elsewhere after I got that blizzard. I decided on the Turtle Pecan classic over lots of other options, most of which sounded pretty gross truthfully. There were lots of pecans, a decent amount of chocolate, and my only complaint would be how quickly the "ice cream" (or is it ice milk?) melted. It wasn't particularly hot, but it was soupy by the time I made it to the car. Service was quick and the store itself relatively clean. It is what it is.. Fast-ish Food-ish... I would imagine most folks (unless you somehow don't have DQ in your area) are not looking to Yelp for reviews on DQ. This location is on the newer side (with new management) and is in line with every other DQ. It's clean and the staff was friendly and courteous. It's not quite as fast as your typical burger joint and the pricing tends to be in line with fast-food expectations (fried stuff, burgers, dogs, etc) ... $5 deals for lunch, etc. Their frozen desserts can be on the pricey side for what they are... That being said - Blizzards are The Thing to have here (options: http://www.dairyqueen.com/us-en/Menu/Treats/) There are regular coupons published for DQ. Beware that coupons for DQ seem to be limited to specific locations (e.g. the given franchisee's location(s)). My favorite Blizzard is Royal New York Cheesecake. We went one time and got there at 9:45 (they close at 10) and this kid at the window was super annoyed that we came so late and said next time, so you know we close at 10. It's like, uh huh that's why were here at 9:45. Anyways, I went a couple weeks ago and there was a sign on the building saying new ownership. I was thinking yay, maybe this will finally be a decent place to come. I was 5th in line at the drive thru and was thinking great, this will take forever. Within 10 minutes I had my ice cream and was on my way home. The line moved SO fast, the kids were actually nice and there were a ton of them inside working rather than just one or two like before. The old management was abysmal. They were cheap, rude, and as much as I love DQ--I would stay away. It was a new happy day when I saw the "Under New Management" banner. I even texted my husband that we can try it again! They have come full circle and their service is great! You don't feel they are counting every little brownie they add to your blizzard--but are fair with their toppings. (I love my blizzards). The staff seems happier and the service is great! A teenage boy at the drive-thru argued with me that the Blizzard Fan Club BOGO Birthday coupon I had required I buy TWO medium Blizzards to get one free, um NO!! So idiotic given DQ is running a promo BOGO for $0.99. He also tried to charge me $1 extra for extra syrup on one of the Blizzards. We got home, started eating our Blizzards and they tasted like PEPPER! We threw them away. We will NEVER do business at this restaurant again. This boy has no business working with the public and doesn't know what he is doing. I would like to know why another employee didn't step-in and where the supervisor or owner was.
