service is very unacceptable. ambiance is very small only a couple of tables to sit. They had to remake my ice cream 2x. the first time they made it they only put a couple of rainbow sprinkles on top. second time they made it right. my parents ice cream was made so wrong. they asked for small vanilla with chocolate dip and instead they put chocolate syrup on top. the employees have no clue on what they were doing. the manager did not care on what they did. I will never come back here again and try a different one. read more

I tried a new flavor Blizzard -- Ultimate Cookie, which has Oreo, Chips Ahoy and Nutter Butter cookies. I would have given another star if it was blended about 30 secs more. The staff turned it upside down and it was so thick nothing fell out (I think they have to do this or it's free). It was tasty with lots of thick pieces of cookie. read more

We arrived almost an hour before 10PM. 3 employees that worked slower than 1, took them 15 mins to make 1 ice cream. If that wasn't enough, at 9:30, 30 mins before closing(!) , one of the employer kicked us out of there while we were still eating. BAD! read more

Good service and very nice Staff. I stopped in here the other day to grab some blizzards for my kids and they were pretty good. The store was really clean and the selection of cakes in the freezer section was huge. I'll definitely try to buy cakes my next party form this Dairy Queen. read more

There's nothing better than rediscovering an old classic. Tonight was the boys' annual winter school concert, and we made our traditional stop with the boys after the show. At first when we showed up it was completely empty and we weren't sure if it was open, but with hours until 10PM, I considered it to be lucky that we didn't have to wait in a line (something this DQ is famous for). We stepped in, it was toasty warm in there, tables clean, and we were greeted by the super friendly staff. I got the salted caramel Blizzard. Kiddos ordered up chocolate dipped ice cream in a waffle cone. First of all, I scored a major win with the Blizzard. I didn't know what to expect, but it was worth every bite. Chunky caramel pieces mixed with smooth chocolate ice cream. I was impressed with the waffle cone holder contraption wrapped around the boys' cones to help with drips. They also served the cones with a spoon...not something I've seen at other Dairy Queens. Yep, this place knows how to deal with messy kiddos. Remember my mention of the lines? I kid you not, right after we sat down with our ice cream, being the only customers in the shop, families and teens started coming in and the lines began. Worried that the cold treat competition may have gotten to this place, I'm thrilled to know they are a-ok and serving up lots of iced treats and proud smiles. Note: Their sandwich items are baked in an oven. Also, they serve up Orange Julius drinks with recipes from the past. Bonus: Stop by this time of year in the evening, and you can enjoy a great view of the lights wrapped around the trees in Port Clinton. read more

I live in Highland Park and like to support the local businesses. I am also a coach at a school in HP. I called DQ a day ahead to let them know that we were bringing about 50 of our athletes in for an ice cream treat. They were fine with that and said they appreciated the call. Today, we went to DQ. After all athletes received their ice cream, I introduced myself as the coach and asked if it were possible to receive a complimentary small cone. The manager was rude and gruff and it seemed as if she was doing me a favor. She offered me a flat out "NO, we give your school plenty of discounts!" I'm quite surprised that a business would respond to anyone like that--especially after bringing that kind of revenue to their front door. There are plenty of places in HP--like the new gelato place or Love's Yogurt--that would be thrilled to have us next time. That's just bad business. Shame on you Dairy Queen! read more

This Dairy Queen is a summer time favorite. I usually come here in the after noon to grab my favorite Peanut Buster Parfait. Besides eating one of my favorite desserts what makes it even better is they have an outside seating area in the shade. It's nice to just watch what's going on in the downtown while you eat your dessert. While all Dairy Queens tend to be the same & have some of the most delicious sundaes & desserts this one stands out for a reason. It isn't just the desserts but it is also the location. Highland Park is a beautiful place & this Dairy Queen is located right in the middle of the downtown. For anyone who lives on the North Shore this is definitely worth the trip here. Overall the desserts are good, the staff was nice & the location is excellent. The outside seating is just the cherry on top to make this place my favorite Dairy Queen to go to. read more

We were here last weekend, can't remember if it was Saturay or Sunday, but the line did not move, there was a tall goofy looking teen guy working there that was basically just standing there and looked absolutely lost and clueless. The first thing anyone should know about the HP Dairy Queen is that is a town institution. Located in the the heart of HP, Port Clinton Square it is the gathering spot for families with children. Especially during the warm months the store is jam packed with people and locals can almost count on running into friends. All that being said, I'm not a huge fan. We went the other night and I tried an oreo blizzard in a chocolate dipped waffle cone. Not good. The cone tasted stale and the chocolate had no flavor. Even the oreos in the blizzard tasted stale. Yes Yes, Dairy Queen is a big chain of franchises that all serve the same things. Well maybe, but they are not all run by the same folks and staff. We love this Dairy Queen, and the other one is closer to us. We are not a Froyo, B and R. Gelato, kind of couple. I ordered a strawberry sundae, which was really like a McDonalds $1 ice cream for $4 with rotten pecans. Two of the saddest places on earth- Walmart and McDonald's- anything that reminds u of either of them can't be good. The young lady at the counter did mention adding whipped cream to my sundae which was totally not there. I simply could not figure out what the hell I was having and Why? I've been to this Dairy Queen hundreds of times. The product (obviously) and service have always been "fine." Nothing to complain about. But I had a different experience a few days ago when I brought my 7-year-old son about 15 minutes before closing. Asia and Kenny were not just pleasant but refreshingly engaging! Asia and my son talked about Roblox and bantered about sprinkles vs. no sprinkles. It was BY FAR the most normal experience I've had in Highland Park in 2 years. I took a good friend of mine's 3 year old daughter out for the day and decided to head over to Dairy Queen for a sweet treat! We ordered a chocolate brownie sundae. I had also asked for NO whipped cream, and for two forks. Did she put whipped cream on anyway by mistake? Yes. Did I notice that the employee didn't only forget to give two forks, but any spoon at all? Not until I was already outside with a hyper and excited three year old, ready to dig into her sundae. Not to mention, this sundae was 5$. Although, when I brought the sundae back and explained the confusion, the woman was very apologetic and took care of it right away. (This picky toddler did NOT like whipped cream... I personally would've asked for extra!) The employee was working alone and I can understand perhaps she was just overwhelmed. Awful service. The guy behind the counter messed up my order and told me that it was my fault. I explained that I have never ordered the item he claimed I had in my life, and that I place the exact same order at various DQs on a weekly basis (I love DQ), and have never had a problem before. He was very insistent, however, and it took some coaxing to get him to replace the incorrect items, which were for my children. Also, there were no napkins in the store. Go to the DQ at: 2770 Dundee Road NORTHBROOK, IL 60062 instead. They have much better service, a water cooler and cups outside, and always have napkins. read more

When you order a blizzard you expect it to have candy in it not a few scraps (and a $5 price tag for plain ice cream).
