This is the quintessential DQ. They only take cash and the line on any given night after dinner is always long - even in winter. Some call it an old school 50s theme, but that's just they way it was when they built it way back when. Nothing has changed. Well, it didn't go quite as planned. We were picking up ice cream for ourselves and some friends and two of the blizzards They could not make. They did not have the ingredients for the smores blizzard, and never heard of the strawberry cheese quake. That was kind of a let down. They only accept cash which was also kind of a pain because we did not realize until after they made our ice cream. So I had to drive to the td bank down the road and withdraw cash. Once we did get our ice cream it was delicious. The counter people were friendly and quick. The one thing I do really like about this particular DQ is that they are open until 11pm. read more

One word: Yum! I don't know, but their soft-serves are something else! Deliciously creamy, sweet, and huge! I also love how they have benches outside... I sit out there with friends and finish off my medium vanilla soft serve! -And I mean sure, you can go to McDonald's and get yourself an "ice cream," While I go to Dairy Queen. Really simple...there are lines here n the winter and the place is completely out doors and cash only. It is that good. Plus, it is fun to look at the pictures from 40+ years ago to see what the corner looked like back then. read more

Its ok but found it to be very pricey and have switched to King Kone in Pearl River for years. Their portions became smaller as price got higher. Great looking place and was fun to be at but man it can get crowded too. read more

Went here tonight with some friends. My one friend offered to pay for us cause she had a gift card and she was denied because this is a cash only location. There was only one sign and the letters were small so no one would be able to see it. None of us had cash on us and the ice cream was already made. The workers refused to let us take the ice cream. Poor customer service and they should really get a card machine, it's 2018. read more

I work around the corner from this piece of history and when i first saw it one thing went through my mind "if something that vintage managed to stay open for this long it MUST be good and let me say, this is by far the best DQ I've been too. Ordering from here is like a rime warp everything makes you think of what it must have been like 50 years ago. I might even make the 30min drive from my house passing about 3-5 different DQ thats how much i love the ice cream here. read more

Ice cream was fine, service was fine. The reason I gave 3 stars is because they have a sign in the front of the store listing Butterscotch sundaes are available. It's the first item on the list. When I go to order, there is no butterscotch. At all. Only caramel. Needless to say, I was very disappointed. I suggested to the server that if they don't carry butterscotch they should remove of paint over the sign! read more

I spend my work day on the road, covering all of NJ within a 1 1/2 hour radius of the GWB. I also love Dairy Queen. To avoid revisiting overpriced ones and ones with so-so ice cream, I've cobbled together a pretty comprehensive list of each one visited and how it rates in terms of price and quality. The Dairy Queen in Montvale is the gold standard for me. Its combination of superb taste, price and texture puts it at the top of my list. I'm not going to focus on specific products, but comment on it as a Dairy Queen relative to its peers. For approximately $3.25 you can get a monster-sized cone. The ice cream is extremely tasty and balanced. The consistency is ideal. Very firm and cold, unlike many others whose ice cream is already dripping down the cone (and soon onto your hand) as you walk away from the counter. If you do order a cone to go, you'll be licking your ice cream off the cone (rather than your hand and arm) until you've finished it. That counts for something... at least to me. The crowds can get a bit large in summer during peak times.... but people flock there for a reason. Great ice cream at a great price. Want cheaper ice cream and/or shorter lines at peak times during summer? Go elsewhere. Want one of the best DQs in all of Northern New Jersey and are willing to wait a little, if necessary, to get it? This is your place. read more

What can I say about the old Dairy Queen. It provides awesome ice cream when you need it!

So first of all this place is good I have no doubt in that. However it is just ice cream. I have lived in montvale right down the street for 15 years. This place is always packed as people have said. The reason I'm giving this one star is because of the terrible ownership. The owner does not support any of the local teams or charities. Even worse during hurricane sandy he wouldn't let any of the out of town electric and tree trucks park in his lot. He pays his teenage workers minimum wage and makes them work at all times even in winter because one ice cream cone pays for one hour of work. Clearly this man only cares about money and you should keep this in mind if you decide to go here. read more

We moved to Montvale in 1961, when there were more farms than homes on the Chestnut Ridge Road side of town. We'd walk to Dairy Queen in our bare feet, and I can still feel the delicious burn, You could get a Dilly bar in a snow storm. Those of you who poo-poo this particular Dairy Queen may not grown up in Montvale when summer was about playing outside from morning until after dark, in the deep woods that used to be, without adult-planned activities and supervision. My brother and I tear up reminiscing about the chocolate crackle coating on a cone, and the brain freeze of a Blizzard. This place should be landmarked, because it stands for more than just soft-serve ice cream- it represents a way of life that has passed into the distant memory of the American dream. read more
