I came here a few months after it opened an it was packed. I still come here time to time when I am in the area and looking for a gift. This is a great place to go shopping for a gift when one doesn't want to spend a ton of money. The items are usually so rare that the person would never have any idea of how much you actually spent on the item. The only bad thing about the store is that prices start at $1.50. My first visit to the Japanese "dollar store", even though items are $1.50 or more. I have to admit it was better than I had expected. This store was CLEAN and well lit. Everything that I looked at was clearly priced. When I got to the cashier, she mentioned that a few of my items were a higher price (for example,$3 for an abacus). Daiso, I love how you are filled with random goodness. Honestly, you will not think you need any of these items you find, but that's what makes this place better! You're going to walk around and say: "Wow! thats so cool! That's so cute!" like the whole time. I drove out here earlier this month to look for bento box containers. I did not leave this store empty handed. I liked the variety more than Ichiban-Kan. I felt Daiso's goods were better as they had diagrams on them which helped me figure out what the heck to do with them. The staff is very nice and helpful. I was a little disappointed by this location. I have been to many Daiso's and they are my fave store. But his one was quite small (I think they were relocating?). So it made it very hard to navigate the products. Since the layout was changes to a more vertical style to fit everything in. I was also quite sad because they didn't have a lot of the items I was searching for. It seems like a lot of the Daiso's in general have been downsizing on their sticky notes? Yes, I'M addicted to Daiso. It could be worse though. I could be addicted to an expensive store right? Oh Newark location... you were like a tease compared to the Daly City store. This location had everything and anything! I bought 24 items from slippers, Pocky's, hi chews, lunch bags, cleaning supplies like scrubs and such, hair ties and more. The most impressive item I bought was a $1.50 tie for my husband and it didn't feel too thin or awkwardly short either. I love this place with all of my heart =) read more

Daiso moved to three different locations at Serramonte and its permanent location is next to Dave & Buster's. It's located near the food court, but you cannot go to it from the inside. You have to exit the mall (food court exit near Dick's) to reach the entrance of Daiso. Prices have changed. Not everything is $1.00 or $1.50 anymore; instead, the "most expensive" is $5.00, so be aware of the prices before reaching the register. The interior space is a bit more crowded, with some people pushing their way to get to where they want to go. Three people at the cash registers now and the lines are just as long. It's easy to find an employee "on the floor", restocking inventory and such, but what's not easy is finding parking near Daiso. New department stores have opened across the parking lot; so, good luck if you're trying to park near Daiso. One last thing to add: Daiso does not have a restroom. It's an inconvenience to some people that need to use the loo, but there are restrooms inside Serramonte near the Froyo place. read more

I am a big fan of this store. I must have gone to this store so many times. It is like the 99 cents store, except that their products are much better. Though the prices of most of their good start from $1.50 and up, most are pretty cheap. This place has everything you never thought you would need until you see them. You can definitely spend a long time just browsing at this store, and more likely you will find something useful that you can never find in other stores, like a camera pouch for my point and shoot camera for just $1.50 (compared to a $10 pouch you usually get from Best Buy), a sewing kit (to fix a button on my jacket), an alarm clock for just $1.50, etc. Though most products are in Japanese (which I am not able to read), you'll have an idea what the product is for. I love this Japanese imports store! 99% of the items are $1.50. If higher than that it's marked. You can find all kinds of items from household goods, office supplies, snacks, makeup, and much more. It's similar to a dollar tree but Japanese influence. This location is closer to where my daughter lives so sometimes it's more convenient going here than japantown . I always have to stop by whenever I'm in town. Always come out with at least $30 or more in merchandise! I love the reusable ecobags I first got from here when plastic bags were being banned. They go out of stock often, and I've only seen them restocked once. But I think I got my fair share of them. They fold up nicely and fit in my purse, when opened they hold sooooo much. I've been to many Daiso locations, and this one stands out to me as having the best customer service. Whenever the line gets long at this location, they call for more employees to stop stocking the shelves and become cashiers, which makes the wait time never longer than 5 minutes for me. The selection is on par with other Daiso locations, and it is all about knowing which items are reliable and can stand the test of time. I personally go for their gloves, spray bottles, shrimp chips, and gummy candies, which are pretty random but are total bargains over here. I visited Japan in 2007 and fell in instant love with Daiso. So imagine my delight when we were driving through Daly City and I saw a Daiso store... I squealed so loud my husband almost swerved off the freeway! Plus it's a HUGE Daiso store! x3 Daiso is essentially a Japanese dollar store... only it's more like a $1.50 store, with some items priced higher (though I haven't seen anything over $10). And much like a dollar store, they have a variety of everything: kitchenware, home & garden items, office products, school supplies, stationary, gift wrap & gift bags, jewelry, accessories, beauty & health items, decorations, toys, snacks, drinks, and a large selection of cups, mugs, plates and tea sets. We happened to be leaving the CF that is known as Serramonte Mall on a Saturday afternoon and noticed that the old Good Guys was transformed into Daiso Japan. We were curious... I love this place! The neatly organized store is filled with colorful items. I was most inspired in the gift and stationery section. I'm coming here if ever I need interesting wrapping paper or gift boxes or need a creative knick knack to give a gift a little whimsy. Useful containers in various shapes, colors and sizes offer options for organization. They also offer inexpensive items for the kitchen and house. Most everything is $1.50 unless marked. read more

I went to Daiso today and bought 3 phone cases for my iPhone. Well it doesn't FIT! I found out 20 minutes later and tried to return it but the manager said no exchanges or refunds. And yes I know this policy but I just thought since it was literally 20 minutes later they would accommodate me. WRONG! Now I'm very disappointed with this Daiso! I guess if you buy CHEAP than this should be my expectation. Daiso is not a perfect fit for me as their case did fit my phone. Like many other reviews on here, I arrived on time even before the posted hours for last customers, and they refused entrance. I drove 20 minutes to get here for nothing. If you're reading this review, arrive an hour early. They don't follow their own policy so I can't say when they stop letting customers in. I've seen this place many times and many times I've passed it off. This time I was here for a reason to buy something. I've heard that this store is like a home store where you buy stuff for the house. Well my first time coming here and it was a total shocker to me as how brightly lit it was. I mean everything looked white and so bright. I mean it's not blinding bright but the mood it sets off is actually warm and relaxing to shop in. As I looked around, immediately I thought of it as a discount store as everything was priced really low. Now this makes me wanna come back more often as I am bargain shopper. Just a kiss and a promise. That's what I gave it. This is a place I would NEVER have known about w/o Yelp. It has been on my list since I read about it almost 2 years ago. Normally when I drive by this one I'm on my way to KCSM and don't have time to stop or I'm on my way home and don't see it. Out of sight, out of mind and all that. Alan and I were early to friends' in Pacifica, where we were due at a dinner to surprise another friend on her birthday. We decided if we were early enough we would stop here and then Nordstrom Rack. We were, so we stopped here first. It was huge, clean and nicely laid out. I won't even try to describe all I saw. I don't think I got through 1/3 of the store before Alan got bored. I didn't think it would be his kind of place. I found a tube of lipstick for $2 and that was all I bought. I don't think I've spent that little for a lipstick since I was in junior high school and was first allowed to wear lipstick. One of these days I'll come back and cruise the rest of the store. My only complaint is that the checkout line system isn't clear. There is a single line that feeds into all the open cash registers but I almost wandered into a an open checkstand by mistake until I realized and went to the end of the line. Another woman innocently did the same thing right in front of me when it was my turn, having waited through a lengthy line. She looked startled as I came up and told her I was next in line because she hadn't seen there was one. And thanks to sandie o. for the heads-up about the lack of public restrooms. That's good to know. Next time I shop here I will have an idea of what I'm getting into and will leave lots of time to browse.
