Daiso recently moved into a much larger storefront that is steps away from the original location. They sell a variety of Asian made products that are predominately $1.50. Products include housewares, kitchen products, office supplies, clothing items, toys, gardening items, and food items. If you've never been to Daiso, you'll probably find something during your first visit. I'm happy with this larger store which has most items carried at the large SF Japan town location. Not in this part of the Bay a lot, we decided to check out the Serramonte Daiso. Remembered that it was a stand-alone store on the right upon entering the shopping center from Serramonte Blvd. But with the mall expansion, Daiso is now located behind Target, in a new mall section next to Dave & Busters. It appears that this store is smaller, it is bright and better departmentalized than the old store. So this store won't disappoint and they carry a large selection of Asian made products that are predominately priced at $1.50. Products include housewares, kitchen products, office supplies, clothing items, toys, gardening items, and food items. This store has a large food section. Shopping Daiso, odds are you'll probably find something during your visit. Expect a long wait time outside during COVID. They were out of a lot of things this time I went. They also have a sign outside that says personal bags are not allowed and a complimentary bag will be given but that is not true. The cashier was charging me for a bag and when I told her what the sign said outside her response was, "we made an announcement"????? Who doesn't love cheap knick knack paddy whacks? Daiso is a part of Serramonte although the building itself is far from the mall. The size of the store is pretty huge ad loaded with hella stuff. There's a variety of kitchen supplies, food, office supplies, gardening tools, and such. THEY EVEN HAVE WALKING STICKS. Customer service is not really available here. Besides check out service, there's no real interaction with them. And everything is pretty much organized in their respected area so not much need to ask for help. They have their own parking lot outside so parking isn't a pain or anything either, unless you want to go inside Serramonte then you would have to drive your car over there. And you basically get what you pay for. Most items are $1.50 unless otherwise price. I have seen items for up to $6.00 so don't assume everything is just gonna be $1.50. Overall, okay store. I first became familiar with Daiso when I lived in Sokcho & Seoul, South Korea & Tokyo, Japan; I had no idea that Daiso would open stores in NorCal or USA! So, not knowing Daiso has stores in NorCal, I shipped home a PLETHORA of Daiso products I bought from the Daiso Stores located in Myeong-dong, Gangnam Districts, OSAN Air Force Base-Seoul & Sokcho Daiso using all Daiso products religiously for two years while residing in the Far East . . . X _ X~DOH! Anyway, when I came home to NorCal in March 2011, I discovered the Daiso in Japantown; I was delighted, but it was a double-edge sword because I paid a lot to ship my stuff from overseas to home. The parking situation was frightfully frustrating for me attempting finding parking in Japantown; helplessly gripping two rolls of quarters feeding the ravenously hungry parking meter fending off the Meter Maid! Oh, well~ I had business appointments in Daly City this past month, so I decided to get off the road from Pacifica driving the surface streets to Costco in South San Francisco getting gas (You know my short-cut, right? O=;-D). On the way to Costco-I see something out of the left corner of my eye immediately catching my attention! "WHAT~Daiso at Serramonte?" I squealed with utter delight . . . I was very relieved my car window was rolled up, so thankful nobody heard me squeal like a piglet! So, I will now avoid shopping at the San Francisco Daiso Stores and begin shopping at Daiso in Serramonte. HEADS UP: What's the difference shopping at the Daiso Stores in San Francisco & Serramonte? No difference, really-the stores carry the same products; however, shopping the Daiso Stores in South Korea & Japan will carry KIMCHEE carriers, more household, more stationary, and excellent kitchen utensils/cookware you can't buy in the NorCal Stores. Furthermore, the Daiso Stores in Seoul & Tokyo have between three to five floors jam-packed full of merchandise (about the store size of one Trader Joes, plus add five more floors on top of the first floor); now that is a BIG Daiso Store! read more

New location. Updated Review. Daiso has moved! The new location opened in the end of 2016. It's now located next to the food court entrance of Serramonte, and next to Dave & Busters. Definitely my favorite Daiso location after its update! It has more of a roomy floor plan, bright white lit atmosphere, open sidewalk space than their old one. Before it looked weird sitting as the only lone store at the back of Target's parking lot. Its layout and location is definitely an improvement. It's near all of the other shops, across the parking lot, and right next the food court! I can make quick trips here during my lunch hour since I work inside the mall. Came in here with my kids & I was showing my 7 y/o how to use her chase debit card. The male cashier (seemed young) kept verifying with me my daughter's purchases that was over $2 . I thought it was nice of him, but then when it was turn he was doing the same thing & proceeded to say "is there anything else in your stroller, can you flip your stroller top and show me bottom part" (which there wasn't). Mind you, for reference, I had a brand new Nuna TRVL Next stroller which if you are a parent it is NOT cheap. I don't need to steal anything. Then he asked me if my baby has anything in her hand or on her and thats when I realized what he was implying. It was so insulting and in front of my kids. I have never been treated this way. Im pretty sure I was NOT giving "I'm stealing $15.95 vibes... and I can pay. Maybe next time Daiso should teach their employees manners first, I know these are hard times, & Im sure there are people who do it. this afternoon, one of the female staff members were pretty rude for no apparent reason. we wanted to order a bunch of a particular bowl but since there weren't enough that we wanted on the shelf, we asked a staff member to check. they snapped at us, saying things like "which bowl!? I don't know what you're talking about" even though we insisted to bring them to the shelf to show which one. they interrupted us multiple times; I think they thought we didn't trust them when they said that there weren't any bowls left in the back of the store. most of the staff were lovely; just that one woman didn't need to be so rude. She walked away scowling and was very unprofessional. I hope the customer service improves in the future. read more

Love this store. I've been waiting to visit one since I started to get into Asian skincare. The store has such variety and low prices! However, it can be hard to find things since they really do have so many products. I didn't realize there are no returns and exchanges until I paid for my items. They just reopened in their new location! Daiso is now located next to Dave & Busters on the back side of the mall. Harder to locate and trickier to find parking (for now at least, looks like they are building a parking structure?) but the store is MUCH bigger and super clean! Daiso in short is your go-to store for everyday household items. Mostly all items are $1.50, there are some things for a few dollars more. I love going to Daiso - I always walk out with a few things. The quality is surprisingly very good for the $1.50 price! My favorite sections in Daiso is the kitchen area - so many useful things! Sink mats, vegetable peelers, garlic crushers, tea strainers... and the gardening section - cute planters, watering bottles/cans, shovels, and pots! Can't find them anywhere cheaper for that great of a quality. They also have LOTS of cute stuff. Perfect for small gifts and party favor goody bags. read more

The new larger Daiso is now open! Daiso's new address is 130A Serramonte (and 2nd floor D&B's address is 130 Serramonte). Although I'm a bit underwhelmed, because the new rectangular retail space is about the same size as the Japantown location. It's larger than most other Daiso locations, but slightly smaller than the demolished old annex space. They traded for a larger warehousing space (looks like triple what they had before). Walk the distance from outside Daiso/D&B all the way to Target's side entrance inside the mall, and you'll realize how huge that storage space is. No entrance inside the mall. Because having an exterior door means Daiso is not limited by short mall hours, so they can open and close whenever they want. Daiso prefers a single entry/exit point for security reasons. Some old customers might have trouble finding this spot. Personally, I wish the store layout were larger and setup sideways with 2 entrances, (both inside the mall and exterior door), so they could get more foot traffic. But the shortage of parking spaces at Serramonte Center has forced many drivers to seek parking on this side of the mall too, so there's moderate foot traffic, in addition to the food court crowd next door. Parking lot was full when I came. A new 4 level parking garage and cinema multiplex will be built on west side of Macy's. Not sure if that will be enough parking for the mall. Today, there were no parking spaces on a weekday afternoon, many cars were going in circles. So on the weekend is gonna be impossible to find parking. The new store design is clean and bright, much nicer than the old outdated building. And the new staff are super friendly and helpful. No interior store restrooms, must use the restrooms for the food court (left side of Daiso). Official grand opening celebration on Fri-Sat 1/6/17-1/7/17 @10am. Goodie bags for first 100 customers (after purchase show receipt). Daiso at Seramonte Mall - On Friday I purchased several toys for my 6 yrs old grandkids, while they were assembling it one toy the dinosaur it was obvious it had two left piece of a head instead of a right and left piece. On Saturday morning I returned to Daiso at Seramonte Mall in Daly City to just EXCHANGE the dinosaur for the same item. I told the cashier I don't know where my grandson put the receipt all I wanted was to exchange the defective toy for the same item which was only $1.75 the cashier WOULD NOT EXCHANGE THE DEFECTIVE ITEM WITHOUT A RECEIPT! I ask to speak to a manager and was told there no manger I would have to come back on Monday! The cashier gave me a phone number I could call, when I attempted to call 510-300-1005 it was non-working number. Similar signs and notices were on the opposite door, but in symbolic form. Inside, there are similar signs all over the store: "Not a public Bathroom," "Wait Behind the white line,"or "Extra plastic bags for $0.25 for purchases under $10." If I haven't been to any Daiso store, these signs would not give a very good impression of this place. Although I have not been in this location before, I do know what they carry, their very reasonable prices, and saw these signs as humorous. Having worked in retail at one point of my life, I figured the owners and managers must have had enough, and needed to set the ground rules for shoppers of this store. Fortunately, the perceived negativity do not reflect attitudes of the staff that work here. People working at the registers are very efficient, yet very friendly. As mentioned by previous Yelpers, this Daiso location took over a spot formerly occupied by a Good Guys electronics store. It's a pretty large space, which meant that the Daiso operators of this location can really pack in a lot of merchandise. They have everything here: snacks, stationery, household goods, massagers, tea cups, .......and some stuff so cute it kills me! One can easily spend hours in this store, but we were on a mission. My daughter needed a small box to store her cleaning tools for her musical instruments. Daiso carries so many different kinds and sizes of boxes, I knew we would find a perfect one for her, and we did. That, and other stuff the kids were able to con me into buying for them. Doing the dishes is such drudgery that I like to cheer myself up with cute kitchen sponges. Years ago, I found some fish shaped sponges at Ichiban Kan (SF) that I absolutely loved but alas, they stopped carrying those sponges. For the last few years, I have been searching for cute kitchen sponges IN VAIN. My search finally ended. The new kitchen sponges look like CAKES ($1.50 each): vanilla roll cake, green tea roll cake, chocolate roll cake, strawberry shortcake, and chocolate shortcake!!! I stocked up of course. They even come with the "do not eat" warning. What can I say. I love this place. Reminds me of every little tiny and cute thing for the home, Big Lots style with Japanese flair. I had to stop by and every single item was priced at $1.50. Who can complain with that? In addition, I will have to admit that despite the cheap price tags, they do not reflect in quality. This is no Walmart and neither is the clientele. I purchased several cute stationery items (thank you cards), a bike light, a fruit paring knife that came with a sheath (perfect for picnics), coasters and a notebook for a friend of mine, as well as hard grape candy (muscat flavor) and the little Panda wafers filled with strawberry cream. A large housewares area as well as storage containers, since in Japan, you are pretty much pressed for space, so it is all about storage. I remember our grandparents home made use of every space known to man, especially under the staircase with these huge pullout wood stacked drawers. Inexpensive and affordable, I'd recommend everyone to stop by if inclined to look for small gift items and stuff for the little apts/rooms we are all cursed with living in the Bay Area ;o) read more

It's like the Ichiban Kan dollar store if it took steroids...and then sprouted from a pod into the old Good Guys store in Serramonte....just like in "Invasion of the Body Snatchers". In fact, I think I saw a lot of the zombies from that movie at Daiso today staring robotically at all the $1.50 items laid out oh-so-precariously on the rows and rows of shelves. It's a big place for sure, though the first things you see when you walk through the front door are the tacky tschotskes you would see on the set of "Roseanne", at least before that awful last season when they won the Illinois lottery. Lots of figurines that look like they were confiscated from Central Valley county fairs. Metal coin banks that require a can opener to use more than once. Buddhas with all sorts of facial expressions...some none too pretty. I was looking for the painting of the dogs playing poker...no luck. Things get better when you move toward all the different-sized and different-shaped baskets on the left and the plentiful and colorful stationery toward the back. And after exhausting all the J-Town shops, I was finally able to find cheap ramen bowls and porcelain soup spoons. Of course, I had a choice between looking at the face of a kitty, puppy or bunny with every heaping spoonful of broth...but I can't be too picky for $1.50, can I? The kitchen gadgetry section is worthy of closer examination, especially when you see woks being sold for $4 (...I wonder if it melts when you put it on an actual burner). But I have to tell you the best part is just around the corner. Just like that guy said to Dustin Hoffman at the opening party in "The Graduate", the future is indeed plastics. Anything plastic you want...they have here. I spent an inordinate amount of time here wondering if I should buy mini-baskets for things I keep at home which I should have already thrown out. Decisions, decisions. Friendly service...but of course, it is run by my peeps. So what do you expect? I say check it out...and treat yourself to a $1.50 toilet bowl brush. You deserve it. The store and people are great. The stated hours are whack. Google and Yelp says they're open till 8pm so I book down and get there at 7:37. But lady at door says "sorry we're closed. I say what?!she points to the sign says the close at 7:40. I say ok I just rushed down to get here and it's 737 so may I please get something real quick. She says no because another rule says no customers are let in within 2 mins of closing. I say ok it 3 mins to closing can I come in? No sorry now it's 7:38! Don't bring children here. Even supervised, I guarantee they will knock something off a shelf. Heck, tonight I saw/heard 4 adults drop things (I was one of them). I can also guarantee you wouldn't be able to let children walk out of here empty-handed (um, you try saying No to a child begging for a $1.50 item. that would just be cruel). Like Mia S. previously stated: this place is like "Ichiban Kan on crack!" Seriously folks. Now I realize that this is probably the reason why Kyun over at the Metro Center nearby shut its doors. But, Daiso is crazy fun! It's a warehouse of STUFF. Reasonably-priced stuff! Most everything is $1.50!!! And it's so huge that they have dept. signs (ex; Japanese Decor, Plastics, Household Items, etc.). And they specialize in sheer volume & variety. Tonight, we kinda refrained, but still managed to make some fun purchases (mostly gift/stocking stuffer items): - Bamboo knitting needles ($1.50) - Bamboo spatula ($1.50) - Pushpins ($1.50) - mini wok ($1.50) - Folding Comb ($1.50) - pocket calendars ($1.50 *so cute. yellow with a little ladybug. the cover reads: "I hope everyday will be happy! I've been curious about this place since reading a blogger's mention and all the yelp reviews. I was looking for 3 things: Japanese bamboo ear wax pick (they had a cheap kid plastic one, but I wanted a nice one)http://www.jbox.com/SEARCH/mimikaki; Japanese toothbrushes, and Pocky cookies. I couldn't find any of those things. What kind of Japanese store doesn't have at least Pocky cookies- even 99 Ranch carries it. The food items they had were strange and not interesting at all, tiny selection. Most items in the stores if not marked are $1.50, otherwise it'll be marked if more than that. They have lots of stuff for the household, gardening, pens, chair cushions, other random stuff. Most items are in Japanese with very little English on the item (if any), and you can't even open up the item to see what it is..most items are sealed shut with no sample item to look at and signs everywhere to not open the merchandise. Big minus in my book. We did find some pictures frames, hair brushes, and some containers for our pens. Our total damage was almost $17. They take credit cards. Cashier puts all your items back into the basket and gives you a bag to bag your own. I agree w/ Bryan K. stick w/ Ichiban Kan! No credit, returns, or exchanges-that's evil. If you ever wondered what a Japanese Wal-mart would look like, this is probably as close as you're going to get. Everything in this store is ridiculously cheap. Although some of their items do show the price in the quality, it's still really hard to argue when you're really not paying all that much either. The vast majority of the items here don't crack $2, and the rest of what they have isn't all that much more either. Snacks, candy, stationary, kitchen supplies, containers...they have a whole slew of random things to buy. Found a bunch of random little containers that came in handy for the last trip I took (stupid travel restrictions), and also picked up some cool plastic units to store kitchen items in my house. Unfortunately, they do have a crappy return policy (as in, you can't return anything), but it's a little comforting to know you are only wasting a buck or two if you change your mind. Walk in with a purpose or risk losing 3 hours of your life! I first saw saw this Daiso over,, well let's just say I watched its conversion from the old Good Guys into what it is now. Every time I went by kept meaning to visit but for some reason it just didn't happen. Then one lazy Saturday I wandered in and BAM! I was in heaven. First thing I ran into was a bag of Lichi gummy candies. I used to buy these in a little storefront when I worked downtown in SF. When the company I worked for moved to Daly City I thought I was saved from being attacked by another bag of those little Lichi devils. Oh No! A fresh place with a steady supply is now too close to home to run from! Besides the really cool snack food section to destroy me, Daiso is also a place of wonder for both children and adults alike. They have a wall of low cost kitchen utensils, A cool toy section. Cheap tools that still have enough quality to be a good value. Plenty of other places in the store to chip away at your wallet a dollar (now $1.50) at a time. You want pet products? They have a bowl, food and house for Fifi! You want hardware? Right this way Mr. and Ms handyperson! Your stationary running a littly low? Come get some cool new paper here to write your next novel on! Need a resonably priced good looking single bowl? They seem to make them on site. Plants out of control? Come get your mini-trellis here! Your backside a little dirty? They have toilet paper too! With instructions written in completely Japanese. Just right for that visiting aunt and uncle who cannot understand a thing in english! Japanese handsoap on the same aisle. Along with a bazillion other tiny sections of "stuff" I was happy to find one thing that even the Targets and Walmarts of the world seem to lack. Namely a little net wash bag. Very handy for use in keeping things from getting beat up in the washing machine. Also found a microwave egg cooker. Damn the distractions! I do warn the reader to be careful that you go into Daiso with a list in your hand. Wander in one afternnon without that list and you'll be lucky to make it out alive before sundown! For the people who might just remember, Daiso is the perfect replication of what a small Woolworth's or TG&Y was years ago. Plenty of things you might need. Nice locationed store at the Serramonte shopping center with plentiful parking. I love coming here and seeing the unusual snacks, products, and gadgets. The store is clean and well organized. The Asian Target. Most of the items here are only $1.50, so cheap that it's hard not to leave without buying something. I can't say that the quality is the best, but for such low prices, it's definitely worth shopping here. They have anything and everything. It took me a little over an hour to get through the whole store. What amazes me is how organized the place is. With so much merchandise on the shelves, I'd expect random objects to be scattered. Not here though - not even on a busy Saturday afternoon. One thing that annoyed me though were the sunflowers. They're everywhere! It's like they're following me. This is the biggest Daiso I've ever seen. It's not just that there's a greater quantity of Daiso-stuff, there's clearly a wider selection in every category. As with all Diaso, it's basically the dollar store for Japanese stuff. That means paper products are sold in non-US sizes like A4, A5, etc., so if you're doing school shopping here, keep that in mind. The thing I go here for is crafting supplies and containers. There are bags and boxes for just about anything you can imagine. Word of warning. This Daiso is across the street from a Target and several other stores. If you think "hey, I'll just find a parking spot and cross the street between the clusters of buildings," get ready to play human Frogger. The drivers are not watching for pedestrians. There are no crosswalks. There once was a crosswalk, but it's been painted black. I appreciated how they limited the amount of people in the store during the pandemic. Items were sparse, understandably. I usually find convenient things for crafts or to use in my car. They accept cards, but not refunds and exchanges. The staff is always nice. I love that they sell a variety of Frixion (might be misspelled) pens and highlighters. Looking for a wacky Japanese present? Or something to organize your stuff? Or just some cute (aka kawaii) little thingamcbobber from Japan? This is the place! What's better than that? Most things are hella cheap starting at $1.50! Since it sits apart from Serramonte Mall, it's not too busy either. The store is huge and the selection of stuff is mind boggling! I think the best part is figuring out what the hell some of the things actually do. It is also funny to see some of the American items that are sold in Japan. We bought everything from cooking stuffs to a fun party wig and joke inflatable breasts. Very fun place to shop. Parking is a piece of cake. read more

This is like a quality dollar store given some of it is utterly useless crap and has a high propensity to eventually become a part of a clutter collection. They have everything from cool little household gadgets, stuff for your car, stationary, cute Japanese trinkets and more. The weirdest thing I saw was a double eyelid stick. Asians desiring to make their eyes look more Western can apparently do so for just $1.50! Why? Why? Why?! Embrace your cultural beauty ladies! I like to stroll up and down the aisles to check everything out. Some of it is pretty cool stuff, but consider where it will end up a year from now rather than thinking like a hoarder that $1.50 justifies all. Yup, Daiso is awesome. It's the perfect place to come if you need stuff after a fresh move, but be aware there are no returns or exchanges. You don't like it? Too bad. read more

I WAS SO HAPPY TO SEE DAISO IN COLMA!!! I thought they were going to close forever since the one inside the mall was closed forever, and as far as i knew, there was no "new location" sign. The dais is located next to the food court, you won't miss it at all!! This dais is HUGE, not too huge like the Japan Town location but very similar!!! Lots of Japanese labeled knick knacks and low priced stuffs here. Not the highest, or even mid-high, quality. Still, mostly serviceable and stop-gap items that work - until one can get something better. Perfect for TTET! Went there to grab a bike light but it was sold out. Left an hour later with four items wasn't planning to get. Not good. The workers here are friendly and get you in and out of line quickly, though you have to bag your own purchases. Easy to find (where that Good Guys used to be) off of Gellert Blvd, if coming from Hickey or Serramonte Blvd. No foods or drinks allowed inside. No restroom either. read more

Daiso, a large Japanese 100 yen superstore carrying anything from Japanese stationary, cosmetics, containers, ceramics, kitchen goods, toys, tools.... to food items, pet products, etc. just opened today in Serramonte Shopping Center near the entrance closest to the HWY 280, it's located on the right coming in from the entrance after the gas station. This one is by far, the largest Japanese 100 yen store I have ever been to in California. It occupies the entire building which used to be the Good guys, I believe. Most products are selling for $1.50, and there are others selling for more, but the quality of most products are pretty good for the price. If you love Japanese stationary, this place is like a heaven. I got whole bunch of pens, tape glue with great looking dispenser, clear plastic USB cable with cable rewinder and lots of containers. The only issue I had was that there was one product which did not work after putting the battery in so that's minus one star. I was surprised that they accept credit cards since most 100 yen shops I've been to do not. The quantity of the products and categories are just overwhelming, so I have to go back there again to check out what I have missed today. read more

Great place to stock up on essential household wares with a contemporary Japanese touch to them. You can find most of what you need here, but be careful with this location because it tends to get extremely crowded and the bag fee is 20 cents as apposed to 10 cents. This location is larger than the others which means much more eclectic items that you never thought you needed or existed that you just have to have. They have mini versions of pretty much anything you can think of and then some. I always make the trip here whenever I visit Serramonte because there's always something new in the store that I haven't seen before and that's one of the charms of this place. They always seem to be hiring, so if you're in need of a service industry job that doesn't involve soul draining products that you'd otherwise never endorse, this place is for you. read more

My first foray into Daiso was when I was in Vacouver a couple years ago. The Daiso in Richmond's Aberdeen Centre was a 2 story behemoth with every single nook and cranny stuffed full of knick knacks. I managed to snag 6 bottles of various shapes and sizes for travel/toiletries. Oh how I missed a store with tons of stuff I don't need! When I heard that Daiso opened in Daly City and rushed on over to check it out. Don't get me wrong, Ichiban Kan in San Mateo did the trick when I needed something for the kitchen or storage but I longed to peruse the aisles for hours on end. I ended up getting a few laundry garment bags (really handy for packing shirts etc for a trip) and was contemplating whether I should get an instant-noodle-storage-holder-thingie-with-handle when my friend yanked me out of the aisle saying that I'm wasting money because I don't even eat instant noodles and why the hell would I need such a thing?!! Then she hustled me out of the store after we paid. She needs to spend more time in Daiso or I need to get a different friend to shop with.... read more
