I don't think I was as disappointed in this place so much as I was disappointed in Yelp for giving me the idea to go here to begin with. Yes, it is essentially a Japanese 99 cent store - but no, the items are not of high quality OR as cutesey as I was lead to believe. And when I say cutesey, I mean cutesey. I was expecting over-the-top cute to go with my already overtly feminine home decor. What these reviews actually mean is that you can get a lot of brightly colored housewares - the cute factor is lacking. Were I to outfit chez Aimee in these items, the result would be garish to say the least. It all might look okay in a college dorm aside a second-hand Oriental rug, though. The range of kitchen goods and containers for organization is vast, but the quality is poor. The cooking utensils would definitely not withstand a quick toss of your breakfast skillet served up in a cast iron pan - unless you prefer melted plastic to melted cheese. I picked up a few items, but if you're looking for something that's durable that you'd like to use in the freezer, fridge, microwave, and dishwasher, tread lightly. And just forget about spill-proof lids. If you're looking for Japanese items like soy sauce dishes, side bowls, and chopsticks, this place is a solid alternative to Mitsuwa. If you're looking for housewares that will stand the test of time, you're far better off going to a discount store like TJ Maxx to get department store quality bins that won't fray and fall apart in weeks. DOLLAR YEN STORE IN USA!!! =) When we were in Japan ... we loved stopping in on the 100 Yen stores ... always had super cute and useful items. Was totally excited to see Daiso expand in the US. Stuff here is actually $1.50 NOT 1 dollar...unless otherwise stated. Like any good er... Target store, you cannot go in there and start to pick up items you don't need. I had to exercise extreme will power and rationalize only getting what was needed -- a little trash can, some lanterns, yarn, hair tie, tand a few little knick knacks for the cats. Where I got stuck in the most -- the crafts and containers section ... goes on and on and on...O__________o Ohhh.. and I also bought 15 picture frames. hehe. I envy my in laws for having a Daiso, Mitsuwa, Whole Foods, Sprouts, Trader Joes, Home Goods, H Mart all in their city. LUCKY. I can't bring myself to one star Daiso. I just can't. I love all the stuff that this classy discount store has to offer. Their kitchen products help me organize and make my life a little easier. Their stationary and little grab bags make for excellent party favors and thank you gifts for my daughter's teachers. And the SNACKS! The yummy Japanese snacks that other Asian markets like to jack up the prices on. This Daiso fails miserably. It is not on par with its San Gabriel or San Francisco counterparts. The stationary section is dismal and parts of the store looked ransacked. The worst was the in-you-face "we're closing in 5 minutes" announcement. I have never heard such an aggressive and snarky tone while addressing customers and I have never seen a store make such an effort to push customers out five minutes before they close. I know it's Saturday night and the young staff want to get you the hell outta there so they can get off work and hit the club, but they need to be more subtle about it. read more

Seriously the best!!! And $1.50?!?!? STEAL! I was able to find SO MANY THINGS for home organization. Simply amazing. While trying to unpack and organize my kitchen, I hopped on Pinterest and found 1000+ pictures of what I wanted my kitchen to look like. I started to brainstorm where I could get these things so that I wouldn't be bankrupt after doing this kitchen organization project. I was driving to get a bagel and saw Daiso. I walked in amazed and found pretty much everything I needed. I got containers to organize my tupperware, containers for sauces and condiments, fridge organization items, spray bottles to store my home-made cleansers, extension poles to put in the cabinets to hang spray bottles, glassware to make succulents planters, and much much more. Close your eyes and imagine the fobbiest place you can ever dream of full of lucky cat statues, 43 kinds of rice tupperware and bags and bags of Hi Chew. Now open them and feast your eyes upon the aisles of totally useless but most awesome cheapest Asian crap extravaganza you can ever imagine. I kid you not, the second you walk in you are blasted with an explosion of pink and cheap plastic and tools for things you didn't even know you needed a tool for and it's all so glorious and so wonderful. And did I mention cheap? Granted if you were trying to find some Crate and Barrel quality china for your million dollar OC home, I would back out slowly, but if you just want something functional (and most likely covered in hearts, flowers and/or broken Engrish) than Daiso is like the Ikea on steroids for your domestic needs. It's like Daiso raped your mind and knew that you wanted a plastic container in the shape of a banana that looks like a banana to HOLD a mother effing banana. It also has the coolest beauty supplies. My friends and I love this place. I introduced my friend to this place and she said it was waaaay better than the dollar store. Good quality and all. You always walk into this store buying stuff you don't need lol. Everything's $1.50 unless listed. So let's say you're a college kid and you want relatively cheap goods for your new dorm/apartment. What do you do? After all, you're a college kid in debt. You've got textbooks per quarter, food, utility, etc. Wait, all goods in Daiso are $1.50, unless otherwise marked? So could I potentially get new pots for my kitchen, new mugs/bowls, shower supplies, and anything else that catches my eye, for a pretty decent price? -- Yep! You're in luck. The goods that you're looking for are pretty cheap. I mean, $1.50 is less than a pencil in some cases. You could get something worth much more than a pencil for a cheaper price. I came here to get some gloves, a mug for my dorm, some trays to store paper, snacks (although do beware if these can expire), stylus for my brother's DS, and so much more. It's a nice place to just wander around too, after going to Mitsuwa or something and you just want to walk around. Each item was $1.50, so you can do the math. When you want some cute but affordable items, be sure to check Daiso out. It's worth the trip! LOVE Daiso!! They have locations all over Japan and several in Northern California, but a store has FINALLY come to SoCal! As others have mentioned it is basically a 99cents (100yen in Japan) store, except most everything costs $1.50. There are tons of stuff for home, kitchen, beauty, food, stationary and even pets and garden. The quality is generally quite good and everything is very cute. I read all the reviews to prepare myself...budget in mind and off we went. The BF and I literally walked down every single aisle, checking out every little funny and quirky items they have. Yes, the minimum credit card purchase is $10 and there are two lines, one for CC and one for cash only. This is the first Daiso I've ever been to. I always went to this Daiso before the one in El Toro opened up. They are all pretty much the same to be honest. It's a great place to buy gifts or just to explore and kill time. It's always super clean and organized and the prices are super low. I came here for a little bit to buy a white elephant gift for less than $5. I walked out with some really soft socks, a cute key chain and some yummy dark chocolate mushroom shaped candies. My white elephant turned out to be a hit, like I said it's great for gifts at a low price. read more

Love this place! Better quality and variety of items than the 99 cent store. Everything is $1.50 but still very cheap! I love buying hair scrunchies, toiletries, massagers, baskets, and now Christmas decorations! The only thing I didn't like was that this place is very confusing and aisles are not clearly marked. You will have to go through each aisle to find what you are looking for! I asked the employee and she wasn't even sure! This place is always busy and lines can get pretty long. The parking lot is a mess with Mitsuwa market and all the new restaurants! Beware of parking and plenty of bad drivers! Daiso is like the Japanese Dollar Store. Just WAY better! $1.50 notebooks... hair-ties... cleaning supplies... holiday decorations, etc. I love Daiso! I purchased tons of cleaning supplies and organizing items here. From dishwashing rubber gloves to containers and tupperware, this place has an amazing selection if you're on a budget. Even when I'm not shopping for something specific, I always pop my head in here after CVS or Ralph's. And i usually leave with a couple items hehe. I bought the cutest little straws the other day. They had the classic red stripes that are perfect for my food blog photos. Items like this would easily be $5 in a Michael's Craft Store. Obviously you can't find everything here but if you pick and choose you can definitely save a little here and there with a trip to Daiso! Daiso has a split line for checkout. Basically one line for cash only and another line for credit cards and debit. Credit cards need a minimum of $10. I wrote about the Daiso in San Francisco, and I figured that would be the last time I would Yelp about it. I was wrong. Damn you, Daiso. It just keeps pulling me back in.. Essentially everything is $1.50. Let that sink in. Seriously. Every college students dream really. It should be every American's dream to shop in a store where everything is a buck-fifty, but that's a different rant for a different day. They have everything you could possibly think of buying, and millions more that you would never think of making. Along with the cutest dining ware you pretty much will ever see, Daiso is an exercise in imagination and frugality. That sentence sounds so pretentious, but I'm going to keep it. I was going to buy a few electronics on Amazon (my go to place for cheap electronics), but I found them here! Auxiliary cable for my car to listen to my iPod? Check. iPod charging cable? Check. Car charger? Check. This place is awesome. The walls are all bright pink, and the place is huge. Biggest Daiso in California I believe? I will probably end up going here an upwards of twenty or thirty times this next semester. If you somehow go here and don't buy anything, you are the craziest person in the world and I don't care to meet you. TIPS: -- They take cards, as well as cash. When you first walk in the door, you'll be hit by pink! The store is so pink! Then you'll see aisles and aisles of stuff, like at your typical dollar store, except this stuff is a lot cuter! I love this place! This is one of my favorite places I can think of just to kill time. They have the most random knick knacks for $1.50, like rice scoopers that stand by themselves, foldable doggy bowls, and garlic peelers. Some items do cost a little more. Daiso is the Japanese version of the dollar store, but honestly, much nicer and sophisticated. Everything in the store is $1.50, unless otherwise specified. They had some nice trinkets including some nice containers. Honestly, I came here to purchase an ice tray that has a cover on it. Seriously, not only does it have a cover on it, it was an ice try that had indentations for mini ice cubes. Most everything is $1.50 (plus tax) and you can spend a solid 2 hours in here looking at everything! I've been here a couple of times just killing time, not even planning to buy anything. And when I find something I want, $1.50 isn't going to break the bank! Awesome store that sells the largest and most random selection of items for cheap prices. Some select items cost more (the highest I noticed was $3.00?), so don't be an one of those crazy people that throw tantrums that it's false advertising at the register when you realize one of your items costs more. The walls of this store are frightening pink, but it's fun to look at all the random stuff they sell. I managed to get a fairly size whiteboard here for my cubicle at work for $3.00 and at Target they had one half the size with a dry erase board marker for $6.00! I just moved down here from LA and I'm really liking the size and selection compared to the one in Sawtelle that I'm used to going. I see people complaining about customer service, but I've never had a bad experience there so far. I think it's reasonable for a business to have a $10 min. for cards when their margins are probably not huge given that almost all the items are $1.50. I will gladly forego 5 star service to be able to buy some handy items for $1.50. Overall, if you need anything for your home, check Daiso first before you go anywhere else, you may be able to make do with an okay quality item and be able to save some money. LOVE THIS PLACE! Why isn't this place all over So. Cal? I love everything about this place and I have only been here once. There's 99 cents store, and there's Daiso. Daiso qualities are obviously better than 99 cent store qualities, and true to its Asian roots, everything is cutesy and comes in pink, baby blue, lime green, and orange. Here I found all kinds of things, even the felting needles! Everything is beautiful in addition to being cheap. I had 9 items with me on my way out and it only ran me $14.55. :) It's all the stuff I need that normally cost from $3 to $8 too. I'm definitely coming back. This store is a fantastic conglomeration of random bits that nobody really needs and yet, everyone who walks in (including me) will find every justification to buy a crapload of manufactured plastics in various sizes and shapes. I really do enjoy coming here despite the magenta migraine. It's a trap but in a fun and amusing way, sort of like a shark in a funny hat. There are too many things here to list so I'll just say that if you need random odds and ends, you really should come here. Prices are low (generally $1.50 for everything with a few exceptions) and the quality is pretty good depending on what you get. Cashiers are what you'd expect at a $1.50 store. If you're in the plaza and have a few minutes and a few dollars to burn, take a walk into Diaso. With its establishment in Singapore, everything is priced at only $1.50 to $2 - ranging from lots of household items, toys, daily necessities to fashion accessories that are sure to fit within your budget. There are all kinds of Japanese items for purchase at this store. They have little lunch boxes and cute wrapping papers and candies and dishes and trinkets. The prices are reasonable. This was the first time that we have went to this Daiso Japan in Irvine. It has an amazing assortment of goodies from Japan. There are little notebooks, pens, pencils, and tons of other things. You can get many ideas and can pickup many things by just browsing the aisles. It was fairly crowded when we went there on a Thursday night. They do have a policy of all sales are final so they don't take returns or exchanges. They also have a minimum of $10 for credit card sales and only take MasterCard or Visa. But you would be very surprised for the stuff you can get for a buck fifty. Granted, the stuff you will see here will probably get the job done, but not as as effective because of the cheap materials, but hey, it's only $1.50.
