The Good - Overall lower prices than supers on most items - Great selection of wines and beer at discounted prices - Good selection of organic/healthy items - Breads, milk, and house brand items are really good deals The bad - Many items have short best buy and expiration dates - Small in size and variety compared to their larger stores i.e. Irvine and Costa Mesa I've always thought this was the Marshall's of the grocery business. Many of the items that he supers don't want end up here. Nothing wrong with that but it means that there is not the consistency of items You can't count on some of the items you're buying today will be there tomorrow. On the good part is that it's often at a great prices. For example, I just bought a bottle of antibacterial Dawn Dish liquid for $3.99 bit is $6.99 at the supers. They had an extra large bag (1.5#) of Lindt Dark Chocolate truffles for $9.99, retail is $17.99 but I first noticed it in on the shelves 30 days before the best buy date. So I ended up at Costco and bought the same product for $12.99 with a BB date over a year later. (But it's a major hassle to shop at Costco unless you're buying other items!). Their Simply products are new and great, I've had their pasta and sauces and eggs. Their bread selection is fairly fresh, and the Sourdough Bread fro San Luis is $5.00, over a dollar more at the supers. I like their Orowheat Keto bread, and artisan breads for much cheaper than supers. Milk products which include lactose free milk are all fresh but some of the yogurt, cream cheese, cottage cheese may have short (less than 1 week) expiration dates. Fruits and vegetables are hit and miss. While plantain bananas are a cheap 99 cents a pound, many of their produce items are not so fresh. But some deals are great, like $2.00 for a cantaloupe or mini watermelon when in season. They have the usual veggies including bagged salads which are fresh and a little cheaper than supers. Meats are also hit and miss but many items are cheaper than supers. However, most of their steaks are not graded (i.s. Choice cuts) and marbling on the steaks are rarely good except for the tougher cuts like tri tip steaks. (brine these in salt overnight and they're good the next day). Lots of chicken, including whole chicken and pork. One thing you'll notice is that it's a rarity that their cashiers - who are mostly young - have the happy chatty cashiers like at Trader Joe's. That's a minor detail They had a management change earlier this year and overall the stocks are much better filled and the store is cleaner. read more

GO provides a variety of discounted grocery items. If you eat many different foods and like to mix up your menus, you'll benefit from finding name brands and some lesser known brands at lower prices. I often find a new and tasty snack item! read more

I liked Trader Joe's they have unique products. I don't really think that the prices are low and you couldn't really do a whole family shopping there in my opinion on my budget however, I really wish that they would make a large size flavored yogurts not a little teeny tiny 4 ounce that's just not enough And I would like to see more specials sale items. Recently we checked out and had already paid, the cashier noticed they forgot to apply the coupon discounts on the food packages. They proactively stopped us and apologized and REFUNDED US! Many of the items found in other stores are not found here, like flaxseed milk or coconut milk. The produce was also distinctively not fresh. This feels like a treasure hunt every time I come in, which I have for the last 3 years...there's lots of name brand products (hardly any generics) in here for more than 50% off. Just watch for expiration dates as they might come up pretty quickly. Great snacks for school lunches, class parties, and sports snacks. Lots of cookware that rival Bed Bath and Beyond, bath products that are stocked at Homegoods, and lots of finds that are more than double at Whole Foods. Don't forget Wine Wednesdays, where their already low prices are discounted another 10% for a case of 12 mix and match bottles. Today, I scored two Barolos in the case for $18 each ($19.99 discounted from $32.99 retail) that my wine connoisseur husband approved, although I never told him where I got them from! Buyer Beware! As others have mentioned, this location does not require masks during COVID-19. The customer before me had a mask on below his nose and covering only his mouth, that is not enough! They are also a small location compared to others and do not accept returns from other stores. I think if Grocery Outlet was going to operate independently on their policies, it should be stated in the store as well as on the receipt. When I informed the manager the receipt did not indicate returns needed to be made with the same store, only within 30 days and it had been 2 weeks, he proceeded to let me know they used to accept returns from others, but no longer. Given that I was not returning perishable goods or even near expiration product (both new, unopened), he could have made an exception to make another sale and customer, instead he lost a customer for life at that store and possibly all Grocery Outlets! read more

Racial Profiling at this Location We normally shop at the Orange location and have no complaints. Everyone that works there is friendly and provides good customer service. I cannot say the same thing about this particular location. A few weeks ago I was shopping with my brother and he pointed out that one of the employees was following him throughout the store. I didn't notice and thought that he was being paranoid. He called the employee out on this and point blank asked why he was being followed. The employee claimed he was looking for his manager. Right. I guess he doesn't know where his manager normally works within the store and thought he MIGHT just happen to be in every single aisle my brother walked down. When we went to check out, my brother was inexplicably asked very loudly and very rudely by the checker (male, white or possibly biracial, 20's) "will you be using any food stamps today?". WTF?? My jaw literally dropped. Noticeably, the white couple buying cases of wine just before us was NOT asked this question. In fact, I have never heard a checker ask that type of question to a customer at ANY store I have ever visited. This was beyond inappropriate and very clearly based on my brother's color/race. To make it even more obvious that this was the case, I (who have lighter skin and am often mistaken for white, esp by ignorant white people), was also NOT asked if I would be using food stamps. Only my brother was asked this question. So they cannot lie and say they ask all of their customers this. Clearly, they do not. My brother works for a living. He is clean cut and well dressed. He has never been a recipient of food stamps in his entire life. He was buying healthy food like grass fed beef, nut milk, etc. and this moron thinks it was appropriate to ask if he would be using food stamps simply because of the color of his skin? That idiot should be fired. For whatever reason, everyone who works at this particular location is a white male under 30, all of whom reek of prejudice and have zero customer service skills. I have never felt anything remotely like that at the Orange location. Despite having more in stock in Tustin, I will never shop there again. This place is a hidden gem. It's located where Trader Joe's used to be in a tiny shopping mall off of Irvine and Newport. They had to move across the street to accommodate more parking and GOB moved in. I really didn't know what this place was and might not have tried it had a girlfriend of mine not told me she shopped there often. One reason I was skeptical about it is because the parking lot went from impacted to empty. I don't know that one would buy ALL of their groceries there but they have great deals on produce (not a huge selection but you will find stuff) and they have amazing prices on health food items. No, this stuff is not expired or close to expiration. It's literally an outlet for groceries. I've paid minimal dollars for items that I normally forgo due to my budget...things like Pellegrino and Perrier Sparkling Water, an entire box of Quest bars for less than $1.00/ea. They even sell things like goji berries and sweet potato flour. Oh and I've even see Essie Nail Polish on sale there. It depends on what kind of items they can get but I'm often amazed. The employees are also pretty friendly. They don't have a huge staff during any particular shift but they will welcome you when you walk in and sometimes they will even give you a coupon towards your next purchase. read more

I was at Peet's Coffee yesterday and saw the sign for the grand opening so decided to visit today. Grocery Outlet Buys in bulk discount from suppliers who might have over stock of items so shopping at Grocery Outlet is always a treasure hunt you never know what you'll find at what kind of a deal. What you can bank on is finding a lot of name brand items at a lower price than you may find at other retailers. You will find everything from fresh produce and meat, packaged goods as well as household items, basically everything you would find in a normal grocery store. I saved about $11 by buying some Crystal Geyser and Pellegrino Sparkling Waters, and even some Heinz Organic yellow mustard for .$.99 cents. Newport Avenue, Tustin. Today was my last day shopping there. It always feels unfriendly toward people of color but I kind of let it go. Once there was a nice lady and I haven't seen her ever since. Other times, there are young males (mostly Caucasian) with no manners to begin with. Often no Hello nothing while saying hello to White people. Today was the last straw. A young unfriendly, impolite Caucasian male was at the cash register. Didn't look at me, didn't say hello (I said Hi with a smile) and I told him politely that I would need a bag. He didn't pay any attention. Then I told him I had 3 water bottles. He seemed like clearly elsewhere. When he finished scanning, he asked me if I needed a bag which I had already told him before. The time was around 2:30 p.m. (Saturday Feb 2, 2025). He wore a black hoodie and was busy texting. He could hardly wait to get rid of me by simply shoving the receipt. Have a good day or thank you. Nothing. I don't know what kind of parents are raising these children but the store should've taught him some basic manners. Finally, I went to my favorite place Aldi and what a change! They were so busy yet the young man helped me find some nice and fresh cucumbers that I was looking for. I ended up buying a whole lot of things there. I am a middle aged woman of brown skin. I shopped at around 8AM on Tuesday (Nov. 9th) and there were about half a dozen customers during that time. Everyone who worked there were wonderful - kind, cheerful and helpful. One individual in particular was especially so, helping my mom and I at the produce area. I was in a rush and forgot to ask for her name to compliment her to the management, so I'm sorry to be able to give only a very basic description: she was a black lady. She made us feel like valued customers, and we truly appreciated her kindness. The only point of improvement I would suggest is to require masking while inside the store. We were grateful that all the employees wore masks, but many of the customers did not. read more

My husband who is a senior citizen saw customers shopping with no masks and not asked by staff to wear one I called the Manager who was on duty and she confirmed this. She stated a sign was on the door stating the mask requirement but does not require employees to ensure compliance. They do not care about their customer's or employees safety and make their own rules, apparently. My health or life is not worth saving a few bucks. Integrity and common good in business counts. I love shopping at grocery store outlet. I make a lot of charcuterie boards and they have thin cheeses and meats for less but one thing you want to make sure of is checking the expiration date they're never expired but they don't have a lot of time left which is fine if you're going to be making something right away. I'm always surprised when I find awesome alcohol choices too. Sometimes I wanna go back and get the same thing and they don't have it anymore so if you see it and you want it, get it. Checked out the new Grocery Outlet. Located where the old Trader Joe's was. Ample parking. The store opens at 8 so that works great for me. I do food shopping before work so I can head straight home after. The store is big but not too big to overwhelm. Clean. Well stocked. They offer fresh vegetables, pre packaged meat. Pricing is good. They send out coupons in the mail. I used $5 off $15 purchase and I appreciated that. You may not find all of what you need but you'll find most. The employees are cheerful and helpful.
