Nice store; pretty, bright, colorful. But reading the reviews of this place one thing stands out: the 'woman behind the counter' being cold. It's true. We came in and my friend commented "she saw us, and didnt say anything. I guess she doesn't want our money." Yep. I guess not. I want to love this store. I really do. I have frequented the shop dreaming of the things I could do with all of the neat stuff they stock. BUT. The shop owner is crabby. Seriously. Sometimes it's just kind of annoying and sometimes you just want to put your purchases down and immediately walk out. My husband and I were in there recently and that is exactly what happened. He was looking at a clothes brush and the woman totally snarked out at him about not touching it unless he was going to buy it. WTF? This little boutique had the things I love: quaint Parisian knick-knacks. My two friends and I stopped in today during the Park St Arts & Wine Fair to peruse the sale items and were bowled over by the candles, soaps, lotions, etc. HOWEVER - when we stopped at the 50% off table, my friend jokingly said -- to our inner circle, mind you -- that only the table itself was 50% off, some stout little woman with sausage fingers huffily sniped, "Everything on the table is 50% off!!!" I swear she was going to add "IDIOT" after that. Her face was twisted angrily and she was just rude and crabby. We had amassed a few things to purchase, but we turned on our heels and left. Should be called Daisy's "bait and switch" emporium. They advertised a sale of 40% off on Sunday from 8 to 11 but failed to mention that there was a $25 minimum purchase. So I've already gotten there with my daughter ready to make my purchase at the counter and get told of this restriction after already telling my daughter I'll buy it. It's not a lot of money in the scheme of things, but the principle is just all wrong. I won't be back. They also have no place to sit so if you're a husband in there with your wife waiting for her to finish (and it's not the sort of store that's got much for the gentlemen) you'll have to stand around or go somewhere else. The store is full of bric a brac. If you like potpourri and scented soaps, this is your kind of place. But if you like scented soaps the place across the street is better. read more

We went into this store while waiting for our table at Burma. It's a prissy store with prissy staff, especially a particularly annoying brunette who reprimanded my toddler for knocking over a tin candle. I offered to pay for it (even though there is no 'you break it you buy it' policy posted anywhere), but I didn't appreciate any stranger talking down to my child. Now I have a $9 dented candle for a miserable memory at a shop I don't want to support. Fail. read more

Watch out, they'll think you're shoplifting. I went in there (and I live around the corner so I've been in there plenty) looking for gifts for two girlfriends - pretty much what the store is made for. I'm in the back 'interacting with' ie, testing the perfumes they decided to showcase along the back wall. The salesgirl at one point nearly body checks me, I guess trying to physically impose herself to stop my crime in progress. It was weird. Then I proceed to spend $78 on two toiletry bags and two perfumes. And now I've been feeling so fumed about it, I'm going to return them. I don't want them to have my money. If I wanted to steal something, which I never have in my life, it would be candy, not Martha Stewart's nightmare. I love the merchandise in this store and love to support our local Alameda stores here in Alameda... However I came in there this evening to use a gift card I had and there was some confusion with the card because the last time I used it they had changed their systems over..so after waiting about 25 minutes for them to talk to the owner and find out what was left on my card which was supposed to be around $17 or so..they told me it had a zero balance!! this was from I assume the owner..? an older gentlemen who was super rude to me and asked me if I wanted to see on the computer the transactions for this gift card!?!? Really..!?! I was not about to waste another minute at this place with this rude man!!! He actually acted like I was trying to pull a fast one or something with this gift card that obviously they made a mistake on the transactions on their end!! Daisy's knows good Christmas decorations! I bought a darling boiled wool stocking that's HUGE! It's very sturdy -- perfect for stuffing lots of little great gifts. I'm giving it to my beau in hopes he'll fill it up for me next Christmas! ;) And, their holiday wrapping papers are gorgeous. I bought several rolls. Great selection of cards and ribbons a la Paper Source. I agree with other reviews here -- great place to get a gift or find new home and kitchen accessories. I love Daisy. read more

I don't understand how she can still be in business. Why would anyone be stuck up about things made in China is beyond me. If you need over price items and bad attitudes, this place is the perfect spot for you. daisy's is unique to the island in that barbara, the proprietor has hand-picked high quality one-of-a-kind merchandise. her creativity is the icing on the cake in that she displays her goods with a sophisticated yet simple style that makes many san francisco boutiques, carrying similar inventory appear like thrift stores in calcutta. the prices are not over the top when one considers the quality of what she offers. i'd much rather support a local merchant and the artists from which she buys, to get top shelf cool stuff, imbued with the energy of originality and spirit instead of contributing to the corporate bloat and get inferior things, which i'll have to replace or throw out in six months. i've purchased many pretty things for my home from daisy's as well as sweet gifts for the people in my life. in short, barbara is an artist with a successful business model. i'd go to bat for her any day of the week. read more

The soaps and fragrances smell so damn good, the pillows are so damn fluffy, and even the greeting cards are so damn clever. It's safe to go back!! I stopped in to get my Lady a little surprise treat. The service was very friendly and thorough. I was greeted with a smile and was offered assistance. After some great suggestions I selected some fancy soap and a card. They gift wrapped it beautifully and thanked me for my purchase. Just the way it supposed to be. I have experienced to dreaded manager/owner on previous visits and I agree she's socially awkward. I assume she read her Yelp reviews and hired some pleasant sales people. Good Job! You have to be a special kind of person to shop at Daisy's or receive a gift from Daisy's. This place is pretty unique-- in a good way. Daisy's has all sorts of stuff for the home, office, body, etc. It's got a French aesthetic, but also appeals to other tastes. The stuff may seem a little expensive at first, but there is always great sale stuff in the back, and they have general sales every month or so. You can't really find this kind of stuff anywhere else, and you certainly can't find that kind of good quality easily. It's locally-owned, and the staff is always really nice and helpful. Daisy's is a store that has everything that, while you may not need it, you definitely want it. You must come in armed with the phrase, "Oh, that's SO cute!" because everything is so cute. While it's true that a lot of things are on the spendy side, there are definitely some things that are worth the extra ducats and the owner has done a great job at sourcing out all the good from the mountain load of overpriced junk out there. We found a beautiful and reasonably priced rug for the rainy season (it's washable too!). The owner and staff are full of helpful household tricks too. Plus there is a handy comfortable armchair near the door to park your husband so that you can shop and coo at the cuteness in peace. read more

Tons of cute trinkets like door knobs and magnets, accent pieces for the home like chairs and ruffly pillows, and lots of paper goods like cards and post its, etc. I found this absolutely beautiful vintage ferris wheel that I have to have as well as like 10 other things. :) Unfortunately the store is on the pricey side though so I will have to go back to slurge on these items. read more

This place is adorable! My friend Amber raved about it, and we finally went last week and it was awesome. I could have spent a ton of money, but funds were a little low, so all I got was an anchor wall decoration. This store is quaint and full of bits and bobs for last minute gifts. They have home decor for reasonable prices, and lots of unique greeting cards and notes that you won't find at other places. The way that the Owner acts and behaves gives small businesses and the City of Alameda a Bad name/Reputation. If you don't fit her particular description of who her clientele should be, expect to have a bad experience...and by that, i mean an upper to middle class, conservative white female...because as a man she was completely out of line....Oh and dont say the word PENIS in the store either.... my mother in law was in there with my wife and saw something she really liked, so she had the sales associate hold it for me to pick up the next day with my name and number...i go in look over the other nice things they have what i think is a friendly conversation with the associate about their wares and even the nice color of eye shadow she was wearing. i look over behind the counter and see a litlle statue of a mushroom with two circular hedges on each side with a sign that says lifes good on it....i remark that it looks like a penis, in a way that was both funny, but also that the way its displayed might give her clientele pause seeming how its of the female variety...i leave with my item and no issues that i know of... a few hours later i get a call from the owner, Barbara, to tell me i'm banned from the store because i offended the associate. she doens't offer reason why or how. i told her that i know what i said, that the mushroom statue SHE is selling looks like a penis..not MY penis, or any other term for it. but the scientific name.as well i didnt say i'd do anything with it, or make any other referenceout side of the items shape. she then has the audacity to say shes never been talked to like that before, that nobody has ever mentioned anything, and shes had men come in all the time and never be so bold...of course they're not. no man goes in there of his own volition. she then decides to question how my wife would feel if i said that word in public. first of all she married me, secondly she knows how i am, and thirdly, How dare you question somebody not involved in the conversation, and make an assault on my character for using a word that isn't a bad word, especially in the context that i was using which was shapes..(like a donut, or a square, or what have you). I did attempt to talk to that associate to apologize that she was offended, but i don't take back anything i said, because nothing was wrong...But to take time to call me and get in to a fight and question my character (she assumes i'm some sort of rude lowlife who has no business shopping in her store, which i get the sense isn't the first time to happen) the irony is that the associate never acted like ther was an issue, like i said, talked about her eye shadow color, and the fact that i, and her husband had both done theater...she never gave an inkling of anything being off...BUT THEY WERE SURE HAPPY TO TAKE MY MONEY...principals i guess... Its bad enough sometimes that alameda gets this reputation for being a certain way, its even worse when you see somebody put it in to action...i would never have gone in there, as most men would not...and dont give 2 craps a rats behind if im banned...but the reason is so insane and the way she handled it was so bad, i figured id just give warning...so what ever you do, don't go in there and say the word penis.... read more

I've never bought anything here because I'm young and poor BUT I've browsed and mentally kept a shopping list of the things I'd buy from this place if I was old and rich! Pretty soaps and scented candles are my jam and I do spend quite a lot of time sniffing every single delightful item in this shop. The set up is really cute with books, candlesticks, cloth napkins, dried flowers, etc. all displayed on various wooden kitchen tables and shelving. As another yelper mentioned, this place is shabby chic-TASTIC and very girly but not obnoxiously so, it's more of a highly romanticized European country home kind of girly. Being young and poor, as I've mentioned, I've always fully expected to be given the stink eye or followed around the shop when I go in but I'm usually always greeted politely and quietly and told to have a nice day when I leave by the employees. HOWEVER! I do have a secret for having such a good experience in this place...I don't go in when the owner is there! I'd gladly accept the title of genius for this little plan but I've actually had the displeasure of waiting on her as a retail clerk in a store she's frequented and trust me, she's just as rude to people being the customer as she is to her own customer. So I avoid the place if I see that she's in. That being said...I can't wait to see what's going to be stocked for the holidays, my expectations are high! read more

This is a review for the owner. I was in the store last week while in town with my sister and overheard her saying very rude things about another customer to her employees, rather loudly. As a business owner myself, I thought that it was very inappropriate when other customers are within earshot. The store look like it's going out of business. for the longest time, I thought this shop contained fancy baby things, so I have never walked inside. until today! when my friend told me that my impression was off. Inside is a cute little shop with a lot of cutesy girly things. My favorite part was their crafty/paper area on the left hand side of the store. They sell a lot of Chronicle Books sets, ribbons, stamp sets, etc. Everything was sorted out by color and theme. They also had a lot of nice cards, card sets, and stationary. I didnt buy anything but I am happy to know that a place like this exists in Alameda. It is like a mix of Paper Source with fancy/vintage home decor things. I also liked their soap selection, and that they sell perfumes that I see at Anthropologie. Definitely a place to get pretty gifts for your girlfriends. read more

I would give this business zero stars if Yelp allowed it. Unfortunately, they don't. I went to Daisy's the other day with my sister and the lady was so rude. She didn't even acknowledge us as we walked in, and it's not like she didn't see us (it's a small shop and we were the only customers in there). Once we started looking around, she started following us around!!! Her attempt to try to be subtle about it failed. In my opinion, she's completely racist. With all the money she's getting from her overpriced items, I recommend she buys herself some manners. read more

I was visiting CA and perusing the shops with my 2 daughters. We entered this shop and they were very friendly from the moment we walked in the store. We took our time and looked through everything without feeling pressured. Sales gal was very helpful in my purchase of a pair of custom-made earrings. Pricey, but worth the one-of-a-kind look I always enjoy.
