Recently came to get some takeout from Dal Mare after seeing this spot on social media. We ordered garlic bread with cheese, my fiancé had a small cheese and I opted for The BFD grinder garlic bread with cheese was great. We appreciated they use La grande cheese, and you know a place is legit if they do. My sandwich was also great. Nice seeded Arthur Ave roll and let me tell you this think was stuffed. My fiancé said his pizza was ok and wasn't a fan of the sauce. I tried the pizza and would agree it was a little too sweet for our liking. Overall a solid place and friendly staff! read more

From West Haven visiting the seawall and was hungry and noticed a little neighborhood pizza shop and stopped in. Little did we know that the young at the counter would make us feel so welcome. He explained menu items, engaged us with small talk and said he hopes that we return. This kind of top notch customer service is why I rated 4 stars. Owners should know that he makes a big difference in the customer experience. I will definitely return. I had a delicious slice of Sicilian pizza and my friend a dessert. Why I didn't know about this Pizza Place sooner. It's a little spot in Lordship. I usually order from Paradise Pizza (another great spot) but this one is closer. The pizzas are delicious and well cooked. The meatball grinder was the best I ever had! Ordered for pick up and the lady on the phone said 30 min and it was ready on time. After visiting Dal Mare several times for the Saturday porchetta specials, my son and I decided to try a mid-week dinner. We both ordered the chicken scarpariello. Tender boneless breasts with sliced Italian sausage, onions, and hot cherry peppers, with a delicious vinegar pan sauce over an ample serving of linguine, which, although a tad beyond al dente, was still quite nice considering the 20-minute cross-town ride home. Having now had Dal Mare a handful of times, I can confidently say, for me, it's the best pizza around. I've had the pepperoni a few times, the works, and the Mark's--all exceptional. And it reheats really well (after being refrigerated or frozen). Grinder-wise, I've had the chicken parm, Italiano, and melanzana (the latter was the first sandwich I ever had from Dal Mare--it was brought to me, I didn't opt for it because eggplant isn't my go-to, and even given that, it was absolutely delicious). Finally tried this place out.....we picked up a Jonny A grinder.....OMG! That first bite when you realize it's soooooo good! I pounded that thing. Johnny A grinder? A big nice piece of chicken cutlet, fresh barata, prosciutto, and a balsamic glaze on a long grinder.....it didn't look impressive, then I took that first bite....I was hooked......most delicious grinder I have ever had. This place was finally recommended to me and after looking at their menu I ordered take out the next day. I ordered the Dominick online for pick up. Super easy process, was made 15 mins after placing the order and I was on my way. Upon opening this absolute monster I knew I was in for an extra lunch. The eggplant was absolutely delicious, not oily, not falling apart - perfection. The chicken cutlet, thinly sliced but stacked up!!! And that balsamic glaze?? Mouth watering. My dear friend Melissa Denzel Emanuel of the center restaurant Dal Mare restaurant in the Lordship area of Stratford just brought me dinner. A grinder, penne ala vodka and two desserts. It makes me feel special when I feel like soooooo many people have forgotten me. I grew up with Melissa and her family...knew them all my life. The Denzel's are special people. I love dal mare!!! Don't let this take away from that... service is great. Food is good.... Last time they messed up my soup order.. this time. I ordered a corned beef Dinner. The corned beef was 1/2 fat (I had to brown it in the pan) and tough... cabbage was smush...potatoes were black on the inside and carrots were hard. They make solid food, I guess corned beef isn't their forte. Stay away on March 17, go every other day ;) read more

This is a great neighborhood spot, and worth the trip from out of town as well. The pizza recipe is excellent as are the sandwiches (excellent Italian bread), dinners, and specials. The portions are extremely generous and the prices fair. There is comfortable outdoor seating in the nicer weather with the beach just down the block, thus the great name. This family-owned business and their staff genuinely care and provide outstanding pizzeria fare that is akin to that of a fine Italian restaurant. I have ordered several times from Dal Mare and I haven't yet left a review but I feel compelled today. I live on the other side of town, I have a lot of good Italian restaurants near me but my picky kids requested meatballs from Dal Mare! We ordered for New Years Eve and ordered last minute for the Super Bowl. The meatballs are HUGE! The sauce is so flavorful and fresh, the meatballs the perfect flavor and texture. I work in a nearby hospital. Having worked there for almost 16 years, I can tell you, healthcare workers order out A LOT!!! We are true critics when it comes to where we order our meals from. We need nutritious food to feed our bodies but we also need really good tasting food to feed our souls. This is the northeast..we have a lot of amazing places to order from and some not so amazing. Dal Mare arriving on the scene has been a godsend. They have delivered multiple meals to us over the past year and we pretty much order from here exclusively. We know our food will ALWAYS be high quality, fresh, affordable. But most importantly...delicious. Like I said, we are discriminating: pizza isn't just pizza. Grinders aren't just grinders. This place just knocks all of the competition out of the ballpark. I mean the sauce alone..come on... They just know how to season and portion and create dishes that you can't find anywhere else. Found this place while in Stratford with my wife and we're so glad we did! Not a dine in but there is a small counter with some stools that we used to try a couple of slices while our pie we were bringing home for dinner cooked. The slices were excellent, a thin crust NY style that made me say "Mmmm" every time I took a bite! The owner gave us a sample of that night's dinner specia, tortellini in a cream sauce and it was amazing! If you find yourself in Stratford and need a bite, you have to try this place! read more
