This place is my joie de vivre. I even have the sweater. The plant section is a Union City oasis. A slice of Eden. I love getting my perennial flowers here, lots of rare stuff that you can't find at most nurseries. I got my jasmine, fuschia, lavender, salvia, petunias, nemesia, zinnias, and cosmos here. They have lots of unusual colors. Tomatoes are $3 most of the time. Strawberries come in a prolific 6 pack. Thai chili and basil can be found here too, as well as okra and other harder to find veggies. Seed selection is the best. This was my year for planting from seed and the basil seeds I got from dales produced spicy sprouts that are so much more fragrant than that at the grocery store. Staff is welcoming and extremely chill as I tend to browse here for hours! Price point is lower than most specialty nurseries while providing a world class selection. read more

It is now "Ace Hardware". The corporate took over the privately owned Dale hardware of September 1st(?). The 1st day I came in when Ace took over, the Cashier system went down. It was "Cash Only". All cashiers were panicking. Today, it is more than a month later, they just had a power outage for 1 minute and all cashiers were down. Once again " Cash Only"!. What a heck??!!!. Hello Corporate, this is 2025!. I wish Dale Hardware was still around. The cashier had a bad attitude and really just did not care. They become like a smaller Home Depot. Very sad! read more

I normally go to Home Depot or Lowe's but the one day I was desperate to find a place that could refill my propane tank for a party. Dale hardware came up on search. I called to confirm they had refills and the representative over the phone was very helpful and even gave me directions exactly to where I could get to the service. Upon arrival it was outside towards the back and someone was there to help me out right away. The employees are really helpful. They have the promptness to answer simple questions quickly and patience to answer complicated questions in greater detail. I love that they have a front desk so that you can be directed to the right place quickly and not waste time. I like the screen door or window screen repair service. You get a selection of basic or premium pet-safe material. You drop-off and pay then drive back later to their pick-up area. We came in looking for microwave screws and he asks a question or 2, walked down the massive screw isle opened a drawer (had to have been a thousand little drawer) and pulled out pretty much exactly what we need! The store was sold to a larger company and has been renamed to ACE HARDWARE of FREMONT. They are not closed for business. Just the name has changed, along with a loss of some longtime employees. So the excellent level of customer service has been reduced to adequate. love this hardware store! came here to get some keys copied and left with my new favorite hardware store, which unlocked a new category personal preference that i didn't know even existed before. the staff are super helpful and patient. AND they have 2 store cats bagel (orange cat) and mochi (white/orange cat). the perfect environment for 2 cats to roam and explore. love the outdoor garden area - beautiful plants and greenery. and for what i actually came for, copying 4 keys turned out to be around $20! good value. i will be back, not even necessarily for hardware reasons, but to walk around :) check it out! read more

Our water heater went out and a friend referred me to Dales Hardware in Fremont. Vod was the first person I spoke with in the plumbing Dept. He was great! He took care of everything for me. Matthew came out the next day in the am and he was fantastic. We had hot water by 10am. Both Vod and Matthew were very efficient and knowledgeable with the product we needed. I want to preface with the fact that I love this store! I've had a great experience plenty of times, and I always have my elderly grandparents come here when they were looking for a new colour to paint there house, or when my grandpa needs new tools for when he likes to make his little art projects. I have never had such a bad experience as I did yesterday. I came into the paint department because I promised my niece I'd help her paint her room this weekend. I came up to this older lady with blonde hair to ask for help. She didn't seem to want to help me, and was cold. I said hello and asked for help, and she said "what." A little rude but not the worst. When I asked her for help finding a specific shade of paint she said, "We don't have that paint." That's fine, so I asked her if she could help show me the shade ranges, and she looked at me like I was an ant under her shoe. She huffed dramatically before pointing me in the direction of the paints and told me I could find it over there. I left the store; why would I want to be serviced by someone who clearly doesn't want to do their job or help customers. I'm extremely disappointed in Ace, and I have never had such a bad experience with them or their employees before. read more

I've been coming to Dale Hardware for years, & as recently as today. Two things off the bat I come to Dale for is key copies, they consistently copy keys that you can almost be 100% will work. If you go to your typical chain stores IE Home Depot or Lowe's you're taking a chance those key copies won't work. The 2nd thing is they have employees that can answer your questions accurately with regards to plumbing, electrical, etc. Now, you're going to pay a bit more here, it's a family owned type of place, not a chain, so things will for sure cost more, but I think the added cost is worth the assurances you get when buying here. read more

I go here when I need some hardware stuff, get some keys to be duplicated and find other finds at this store. I prefer to go here for the friendly, helpful and personalized customer service. I would not go to Home Depot or Lowe's because when I ask for any help, they just don't put enough care and effort to help you beyond their way. They have a separate hardware, garden center, barbecue center, plumbing, paint, fixtures and they have everything here. They also have a key center to make your own fob, fob shells and can duplicate keys with characters. I only go here for this service. The price increased a little bit 2 years ago. But they still do this at this location. This is still the last standing Dale Hardware in the entire SF Bay Area location. I will come back because they have almost everything here at this store. read more

NORMALCY Maybe my title might refer to the current times but it refers to what was like in the past. I remember growing up in Fremont in the early 80's where there weren't a lot of major housing constructions. This location of Dale Hardware still exists and that's refreshing. This particular location is what I remember growing up. I really didn't appreciated it until other stores around this area that I remember no longer exist. I can come here to buy appliances I need such as water filter for my refrigerator last weekend. What is also nice to see is that you can drop off old lightbulbs and batteries at the Customer Service for recycling. Throughout the years even though this location remains the same inside it has transitioned from a cold, warehouse environment to a warm, layout atmosphere that feels inviting where you can find items you need without feeling lost. read more

My husband and I have been coming to Dale for many years now because their customer service and staff's home improvement knowledge is second to none. There is always someone there to help with whatever house project that you may have. One of my favorite things about Dale is how neat and tidy everything is. The hardware section is amazing and you can virtually find any sort of hardware that your project may need. The main reason for this review is for the purchase of water heater and installation. Vod was very helpful with the selection of our water heater. He took the time to explain the pros and cons of each type that they had and which one would be most optimal for our house/usage. All of their water heater installations are done by an in-house staff member which we really appreciated (also very rare to find now a days). Matt was on time for the installation. He was very professional and courteous. He was able to finish the install within 2.5 hours this included helping us clean out the water heater closet which now looks brand new. A+++ Vod and Matt. Dale hardware has always been my go to hardware store. Wonderful customer service and great assortment of items. This is for their water heaters ONLY! They DO NOT service the Reliance water heaters they sell. I still had about 1 year left on my warranty and, according to Dale, it was up to me to scout for the parts and have them replaced. Since I'm my wife's caretaker 24/7 that is near impossible. Ended up buying a new water heater that can be serviced by the company that sold it to me. read more

Love this hardware store, did I really just say that?! Yes~sir~eee! Why you ask?! CUSTOMER SERVICE!! You could stop in and play trivia whatyamacallit with any of the employees. I guarantee you will lose everytime!! They know their stuff! nuts&bolts, tools, plants plumbing and the proverbial what ya ma call!! Did I mention they also know where there stuff is?? Oh yeah! bring in a washer or small part and they can actually get it for you or show you where it's at!! The big box stores don't do that.... Sure they may be pricey! But... You can not only find help, they actually know stuff too. They make keys. They have a beautiful garden department. and a community board with all kinds of Fremont stuff! Easy to find. True Story: Can't make this stuff up... Marcus, the store mgr could care less about the service and shopping experience I received. Who can tolerate, excuse and/or justify Dale Hardware's actions? Was these actions/conduct APPROPRIATE or INEXCUSABLE? I recently waited an extra 10 mins for help after arriving it the store to pickup an online order near closing time. I did get the emailed confirmation that my order was ready, & was placed 3.5 hrs prior. I had driven futher beyond my local Ace Hardware (as item was not in stock there) & waited into a time near close of business (7 PM) to retieve my online order @ Dale Hardware. No one greeted me @ first. I was then told that the item was still on the truck, but it was still there & they needed more time to locate it to bring it to me... which means it was "had not actually been picked by them, nor left @ customer service desk & not ready for me to pickup", despite their emailed, READY for PICKUP" status. They never apologized to the delay. Now, the item was for a single piece of plexiglass which finally came to me, which I needed cut into 2 pieces. First, I was told, that service cost $1 per cut. When it did arrive & handed to me, another employee said that it would costs $3.99 per cut, instead... of the originally quoted $1 a cut. I complained to Marcus, the mgr, who showed up & he then refused to cut the item @ $1 per cut. Afterwards, he basically ran me out of the store, when I suggested, if he was willing to accept my offer of $1 for 2 cuts, because the second quote from their staff was some $3 higher per cut than before, in what I first had been told... and felt disrespected by them and cheated, such that they could raise the cutting service by 300% in just a matter of a couple minutes in time later. I felt this was not acting very friendly and they were possibly trying to price-gouge me for the service & not faithful or fair in dealing w/me as a customer. I also was inconvenienced by traveling farther than my out-of-stock local store, had waited so long, near store closing for pickup, and it wasn't ready late in the day @ Dale, even though, their store had confirmed readiness for pickup via email. Marcus objected to my proposal (refusing & not honoring my suggested counter-offer in a lower price), & did run me out of the store for arguing my point, as he actually did escort me out the door & even wanted to chase me out into their parking lot where my car was, as unpleasant words were exchanged. He threatened me if I even tried to come back into the store... as I Intended to bring my case up w/mgmt... but he was THE MGR ON DUTY... I didn't know this @ the time. LOL. These people are shameless, unfair, abusive, not customer-friendly & did resort to bullying tactics. End of Story: I did take my order to my local Ace Hardware (Pete's), who were friendlier and were happy to cut my piece w/o any issues FREE of CHARGE. read more

I went there yesterday to have a can of paint shook up cuz I was moving. Girl tells me I cant do it if it wasnt bought here. I told here I didnt buy it. The real estate left it at my house for touch up. I told her Im a customer here since 1988. She said let me go ask my manager. It was the morning shift on Sunday Jan 26. She came back and said the manager said no. I said are you kidding me. I have been coming here for years as a customer and you cant shake a half a can of paint for me. Told the girl at the register this is the last time Im coming here. Im done with Dale Hardware if thats how they treat their customers. Its not like I was trying to pass a check for $500.
