Crispy Fried Chicken Wings with Fried Rice
    Alex G.

Really delicious meal, but be careful about the spice level you ask for. I usually have a high spice tolerance, and I have never found anything "too spicy", so coming here, when they asked for the spice level that I wanted, I was too cocky. They gave me the options from 1-10, or an 11 if I really wanted it spicy. I chose to get an 11 for my crispy Fried chicken wings, and it was way way too spicy. The chicken was covered in chili seeds. It was delicious, but after two wings, it was a very painful kind of delicious.

This is such an awesome spot! Tasty, affordable food with outstanding service... what is there not to like? I had trouble deciding what to eat this Saturday when I came across Daleng in my bookmarks. It was a bit out of the way, but I'm glad we made the trek. The food was delicious! The crispy pork spring rolls were indeed very crispy. The filling was pretty standard and reminiscent of egg rolls (not Vietnamese style as in the menu description), but the whoever wrapped these should get an award for creating the most tightly wrapped and perfectly cylindrical spring rolls out there. They are fried so evenly that the the level of crispiness is uniform throughout the entire roll. They were good with the sweet and spicy sauce provided. The entrees were also very good. Michael F and I shared the Daleng Fried Shrimp and the Eggplant & Veggie Curry. Both items came with a generous portion of rice. The fried shrimp (10 pieces) was very crispy, while the curry had a decent amount of veggies immersed in a flavorful coconut curry sauce, which went well with the rice. To complement our meal, we got Thai milk tea and Hong Kong milk tea (with tapioca balls). Both were good. Curious, I also got a can of sugar cane drink; it tastes like sugar syrup and water, but was cool to try. They also have other Asian drinks in their cooler, such as chrysanthemum tea (which I recommend!). All of the entrees are under $10. Definitely adding this to my list of regular restaurants!

Daleng has been on our list for a while, and after our first visit I'm pretty upset at ourselves for taking so long to check it out because it was so delicious! We started off with the crispy fried veggie rolls which were freshly fried and delicious (which is why there are no photos, we inhaled it). I opted for the Tang Tang chicken which was both sweet and spicy, and you can adjust the spice level custom from a level 1 through 10. The wings were fried perfectly crispy, hot tender juicy meat on the inside and served with rice . Although I enjoyed this dish, I probably will personally not order it again only due to personal preference. I usually consider wings more like a snack/appetizer versus a meal - but I do recommend the dish, it's delicious! My partner got the cambodian stir fry, and you can substitute any protein. The dish is so savory, packed with flavor, keeping you back for more - he and I both wiped the plate clean. One thing we both appreciated a lot about the menu, is the versatility of being able to swap out proteins, especially for us vegetarians or flexitarians - this is one of those restaurants where we are so happy, because we can eat almost 80% of the menu, instead of the usual 1 or 2 things off the menu. We can't wait to come back, there were so many dishes we wanted to try - it was hard to choose! That's a good problem to have There are only a few minor constructive criticisms that led to me knocking down 1 star. One is that they were unfortunately out of boba when I ordered, not a huge deal but just something to mention. The second is that they use single use plastic forks, knives, utensils etc at the restaurant which generates so much waste. I understand not all businesses are able to do so, but I would love to see some green initiatives. Outside of that, I can't wait to come back and eat some more! I might honestly bring my own utensils as long as they don't mind...

Pad Thai, Thai Tom Yum Fried Rice, Thai Tom Yum Stir-fry

Open during COVID-19! I was craving Thai food and wanted to try out a new restaurant. Daleng did not disappoint. I order the Pad Thai, Tom Yum fried rice, and Tom Yum stir fry. I got the Pad Thai with level 3 spice and it was so spicy! I am generally able to handle spicy foods, but this was on the edge of too spicy. Just beware when asking for the dishes to be spicy! The Tom Yum fried rice had good flavor, but could use more of that fried oniony taste. And the the Tom Yum chicken stir fry was tasty and went well with the rice. Both of those dishes weren't spicy although it was noted as spicy on the menu. Next time I'm craving Thai, I will be back!

Ordered for take out and went to pick it up. When I walked in, the most obvious thing was that the portions are way bigger if you eat in. The food on the menu is from multiple areas in Asia, and I loved being able to dip my banh mi into a thai curry with so many veggies and pieces of beef. It was surprisingly spicy which was exactly what I asked for. The banh mi was better than I've had in a while, with the fresh vegetables and the jalapenos making it crisp, and the pork flavors and bread made me crave another. Not too expensive of an option compared to other Thai places. Came again and ate in-- the portions were bigger and the pad thai was on point! Will be my go to place for refreshing sandwiches this summer.

Never disappoints! Though I hope they will re-expand their indoor seating someday. As it is they have a few small tables inside by the pick-up window and a few outside, but the dining area remains closed.

Delicious Thai iced tea!! Their pad thai is also excellent and they give you the ability to select how spicy you would like it on a 1 - 10 scale.

5 stars because I can definitely see myself coming back regularly! The price is low, dishes simple but flavorful, staff friendly, and ambience casual and peaceful. You pay up front and grab water for yourself. We ordered: + summer roll with shrimp (had just a hint of basil) + pepper steak with onions (I liked that the sauce wasn't heavy, tasted great with the rice it came with) + Singapore Mei fun (curry flavor was light, great blend of veggies with rice noods) I also tried the Thai iced tea, which was a bit too sweet for me, but pretty ok! My boyfriend is a big fan of this place after our dinner tonight. The food is the kind of simple, no frills meal that my mom might make. Will definitely be back!

Chicken vegetable curry, more like soup. Not worth it

Food is sub-par, customer service is even worse. Thankfully they only do to go offerse so you won't realize the food isn't worth what you're paying for until you're already home. Go anywhere else.

Daleng has changed their menu again. Prices went up a little as to be expected. The charge to upgrade from steamed rice to fried rice has tripled though which is very disappointing. However, I love the new menu additions, so I guess things balance out. There are now more choices to swap out proteins. A someone who doesn't eat beef or pork, this change has opened up a lot of new menu options for me. For instance, the Cambodian stir fry that used to only come with beef, can now be done with chicken, tofu, or shrimp. It was amazing with tofu and has so much flavor! They also will adjust the heat level on a scale of 1 to 10. I got an 8 which was spicy but not hot in my opinion. As someone raised in the south, I don't find anything in Philly hot heat wise though, so keep that in mind when ordering. My husband thought it was plenty hot for him. They also have have sweet and sour Vietnamese soup. We had it with shrimp and it comes with a side of rice. It was nice and tangy with plenty of shrimp. The vegetable curry is still my favorite dish here due to the perfectly cooked vegetables and balanced flavor, but the Cambodian stir fry is now a close second. The Thai tea is always excellent. If you haven't been to Daleng yet, you should give it a try!

    Chicken, vegetable curry

So good. Got take out tonight and it was such a great decision. I got the chicken and vegetable curry, extra spicy and the tang tang chicken. The curry is a spicy item on their menu so when I asked for extra spice they requested a number from 1 to 10. I asked for an eight and an eight it was. It was delicious. Flavorful, peanut-y and the perfect heat. The tang tang chicken was good as well. Such good flavor. Not really crispy, which was off-putting at first, but that concern melted away when my mouth was delighted with flavor. I made a note to keep this in mind more for take out. (Although, the place is really sweet, so dining in is good too.) It's delicious. I also need to mention how friendly the staff is. It's a sweet spot. And I was told when I went to pick up my food that they are currently working on opening a bar in the back. I'm excited for that. This is a great spot. Try it.

Have they reopened the dining room yet?

Is their menu a mix of Cambodian, Thai and Vietnamese? Where are the owners actually from?

From the food to the service, every part of the experience felt thoughtful, intentional, and genuinely memorable. It's the kind of restaurant that reminds you why dining out can be so special. The space itself is cozy, intimate, and full of character. The unique design creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes you want to settle in and enjoy every course rather than rush through the meal. The service deserves every bit of a 10/10. All of the servers were incredibly attentive, knowledgeable, and passionate about the menu. Since several dishes and ingredients were unfamiliar to us, they took the time to explain each one, answer our questions, and offer recommendations without making us feel rushed. That guidance gave us the confidence to step outside of our comfort zone, and every recommendation paid off. We ordered the Mawn Noodle Soup, Grilled Saht Koh, Mahope Samut, Steak and Prohok, Thai Crab Fried Rice, and ended the evening with the Funnel Cake. Every dish was beautifully plated and packed with bold, balanced flavors. The Steak and Prohok was refreshing and full of flavor in every bite. The Grilled Saht Koh had a perfect char and was cooked beautifully. The Mahope Samut was exceptional, with tender, perfectly seared scallops. Both this and the Saht Koh were perfect starters. The Mawn Noodle Soup was incredibly comforting with layers of flavor and easily one of the highlights of the meal. The Thai Crab Fried Rice was another standout--light, fragrant, and loaded with fresh crab, making it much more than just a side dish. And somehow, after such an incredible meal, the Funnel Cake still managed to steal the show. It was the perfect ending: crisp, indulgent, and not overly sweet. It's easy to see why MAWN has earned such a loyal following. Exceptional hospitality, creative dishes that are executed with precision, and an atmosphere that feels both relaxed and special make this one of the best dining experiences I've had in Philadelphia. Walking in around 5:45pm on a Friday evening in June without a reservation, I was able to get a table for 45 minutes within five minutes. Here's my experience. 1) Food: Wow- just wow. Everything is excellent. To feed a hungry stomach, I ordered the Garlicky Cabbage, Yellow Curry Noodle Soup with Chicken, and my server gifted me with the Grilled Saht Koh as a surprise. Everything had textured flavors that are well balanced. The winner for me was the Garlicky Cabbage. Having grown up in a country where cabbage is the staple, these are among the best I've ever had. I'll note that I was warned that the Yellow Curry Noodle Soup was spicy. I love spice but can't handle it. I was unaffected by the soup's spice level. 2) Drinks: The Thai green iced tea was unique, refreshing, and delicious! I almost ordered a second. Like many places in Philly, it's BYOB so there isn't a cocktail, beer, wine menu. 3) Service: It was excellent. Taylor, my server, was passionate about the menu, personable, and interesting to talk to. She's awesome! 4) Location: In South Philly, there's a lot to experience nearby from top-rated restaurants, parks, and public art.

The groceries in this area are cheaper than any place on Washington avenue and just as varied (if not moreso). The real reason to come down here is the street food. Anywhere in this area, but particularly along 7th between Ritner and Snyder, you'll be able to find street hawkers selling freshly open-air grilled beef and chicken at a single dollar per serving (two servings and some sticky rice for $2 for a total of $4 is enough for a meal). The best thing to try to get in this area if you're adventurous is the papaya salad from any of the hawkers (I prefer the fat lady at 7th just south of Winton, around 2130, I guess). In Thai, it's called somtam, but it is of Cambodian origin and called bok l'hong. Its hot, garlicy, salty goodness is fantastic at $5 no matter which hawker makes it for you (and it's prepared fresh to order by all of them, too). It's an enormous amount and really, it's enough for six people as an appetizer salad. Goes great with sticky rice. There're also hawkers along Moyamensing between 8th and 4th and around Mifflin Square at 6th and Ritner (NOT Mifflin, oddly enough) and they all carry the same sort of stuff. If you're worried about the area, there's a hawker on the south side of Jackson St near Mildred between 9th and 8th and that area's a tad less rough. I'd give five stars, but sometimes you'll venture here and find no hawkers. Their availability changes with the weather and on colder or rainy days, you'll find no one.
