Had to call over the server to order after chatting for a bit, so I appreciated that it wasn't pushy in terms of needing to get the patrons to order food quickly. The waiters were all very attentive and friendly. We ordered an appetizer that came with kibbeh, fried cheese wrapped in an eggroll wrapper, and falafel. I'm not usually a falafel person, but this one changed me. The kibbeh and the fried cheese was incredible as well!! As for the main dish, I got the shish kabob combo and was served a hefty portion - honestly enough for 2 people. The rice was so fluffy and the shish was moist and cooked wonderfully! I enjoyed myself on the patio of this Middle Eastern dining establishment on a Saturday evening. We had reservations and a very large party, but the restaurant was kind enough to accommodate us and at the same time provided impeccable service and delicious food. I had hummus and kibbi both of which were absolutely wonderful and I'm not sure if they make their own pita bread or purchase it but in any case, it was wonderful as well. Lastly, throughout the meal, I had a Turkish coffee, which was probably one of the best Turkish coffees I have ever had. It was smooth, not better and perfectly brewed. There is no question in my mind that I will return to this restaurant. 1 Star - Discriminatory, Dishonest, and Unwelcoming Experience I found Dalia Mediterranean Grill & Cafe when I googled "Kunafa near me." I called ahead -- the first man said they had it, then when I called back a lady confirmed they did but said it would take 25 minutes because they were busy. I agreed to wait. When I arrived, the staff looked at me but didn't greet or approach, so I said "table for one." I ordered tea while I waited for my to-go Kunafa. The waiter asked if I spoke Arabic (which was an odd question for a paying customer), and when I said no, he seemed dismissive. A few minutes later, another employee brought out two to-go containers of Kunafa and placed them on the table -- no bag, no utensils. He then asked if I needed a bag and utensils; I said yes, and instead of bagging it for me, he simply handed me the empty bag in my hand. That told me everything I needed to know about the level of service here. When I asked for the check, the waiter entered something into his handheld device and told me the total was over $28 -- which immediately raised a red flag since online the Kunafa is listed at $7.99. When I questioned the price, he went to get a lady who came over with an attitude and said, "It's $11.99 now, it's not on the menu anymore." Then she tried to negotiate the price, saying, "The best I can do is $9.99." Moments later, she snatched the containers and said, "You don't have to take it if you don't want -- I told you we didn't have any more, this is what we had left over." That confirmed it -- they were trying to sell me something old, and overcharge me for it. I told her no thank you and left. I've never felt so discriminated against in a restaurant. If you're not Arabic, prepare to be treated differently here. The price was never the issue -- I love good food and have no problem paying for it. But the lack of respect, honesty, and basic customer service was beyond insulting. I'll gladly keep driving to Golden Roastery for FRESH Kunafa and respectful service. As soon as you walk in, you are blown away, of how beautiful the place looks inside and outside. Our waiter was amazing and attentive .The hummus is incredibly good, the flavor is amazing. You have to give it a try . You won't be disappointed. I also got a chicken kebab wrap and a cheese manaeesh. I devour that before I could even take a picture, but I can tell you that it was so good. I went to Dalia's a couple of months ago and had a wonderful experience. The food was amazing and service was top notch. Unfortunately, I didn't have a great experience my second time around with family of three. Pros: Food. Delicious, great portions. Ambiance. It's probably the best looking restaurant I've seen in Katy. Cons: Service. For a Saturday night, the restaurant had a decent amount of customers with plenty of waitstaff. In our experience, we felt we were being rushed to hurry and order. Once we ordered, one family member asked for a certain food not to be added to her plate and that food ended up on her plate. It took waitstaff forever to come and ask if we needed anything else and a couple of times, we asked other staff for help (refills). One section of the restaurant was getting rapid service from the waitstaff than the section we were sitting at (we were a table of three). I've been wanting to try out this place for a while! Overall, great interior and exterior decor and seating, very clean restaurant in all terms, and good food if you focus on appetizers over entrees. What I would get next time: steak hummus and falafel entree (might consider trying beef shawarma over rice too). I love the fresh pita with most of the orders, the bread was puffy and steaming hot when it came out. The trio appetizer is not worth it but it did allow me to try the falafel, which were really good, so I definitely recommend trying the falafel platter. The last good thing in food for me was the yellow rice that came with some platters, outstanding rice! Now for the not so good parts... the mixed grill kabab and tikka were average at best, the kibbe needed salt, and the gyro wrap was like a homemade sandwich with not very flavorful gyro. Three of us stumbled across this gem after a work function ran late and most places were closed. The food was delicious and the server was friendly and patient with us. They have hookah and we had lots of questions. Someone a few tables away had one; it smelled so good but wasn't cloying or obnoxious and didn't spoil our enjoyment of the food. There were some people playing dominoes in a side room and overall it was just a welcoming place. The ambiance is bright and open with greenery and floral accents. Plenty of parking. Once you walk in there is a large seating space that had a live dj and belly dancer. During this time the music is very loud so we decided to sit outside. The outside seating was lovely. Indoors was party for sure. People could get up and dance if they wanted a bit or just sit and enjoy the music. Our waitress was really good. Attentive and gave good suggestions. The cauliflower was great but a little oily. I'd suggest not trying the cilantro jalapeño hummus... it just didn't hit. I've been here twice for dinner, and it was pretty solid both times. I really enjoy their hummus a lot. It's not overly spiced with cumin, or heavy on the tahini, but balanced just right. They also put chopped garlic on top, which I really appreciate. The bread they serve it with is pretty fantastic--soft and pillowy. I've had manouche bil jibweh (basically cheesy bread) which was delicious, and on my most recent visit I had the beef shawarma wrap. It was tender and had good flavor. Our waiter was very friendly, but this place lets people smoke shisha inside and even though the smoke may not smell like cigarettes or cigars it's still smoke and tobacco so this may not be for everyone. He knew everything and made the best recommendations for someone who had never been there! Everything we got was spectacular! I was shocked with the falafel! Very good and light! The only two negatives, and they were not big at all, was the smokiness of the place with everyone smoking hookah. I wish they had a door cracked or a air system that sucked it all up. It was kinda of just standing there. But wasn't bad at all. The second issue we had was that one of our sides came out I've cold, but Rafael mended that extremely quickly! My husband and I stayed off with the Classic Hummus and Cilantro Fried Potatoes. The pita bread served to us was piping hot and served almost immediately. We dined on the Greek Salad, Tabbouleh, as well as the lunch item, Chicken Shawarma. We could not finish our meal and had plenty for dinner. After waiting 45 minutes - and me checking in twice - no one gave me any updates or even offered a drink while I waited. When I finally asked again, an employee brought out my food, which was clearly not fresh and had likely been sitting out for some time. This is our second time here and I must say it was better than our first!!! The first time the plate didn't come with any side so we had to get the tabouli as an appetizer which was expensive because the dish was $20 plus $8 tabouli. This second time we came back I think they changed the menu and it came with the tabouli and hummus for the price of $22 with the beef sharmwa. Food is of low quality measure, and doesn't taste well with a score of 6/10 at best. Prices are high compared to the low quality food and service. Shawarma meal was made with low quality Tortillas not Arabic bread that you s fresh and tasty, and it was soaking and dripping. The other plate (chicken) seemed to be old and not well cooked. The manager was informed and all he had to say was, will inform the owner! When it used to be Tarator, same behaviors and low quality service was met.
