Upon arrival on a Monday in October, shortly after the sun had fallen, I was welcomely greeted at Dunbar Steak House and given expectations that the bar was a bit busy. I seated myself at the bar. The ambiance is that of a post industrial western style saloon. The walls decorated with dollar bills signed by what I assume were guests. Jessica, the bartender, was constantly moving and hustling my entire visit. She attended everyone with equal attention. Her attitude was friendly and energy was positive. I didn't have to stare her down or call out to be served. I ordered a half rack of ribs which came served with either soup or salad. At Jessica's recommendation, I went with the tortilla soup. The soup was good - satisfactory. Mind blowing? No. But good. The ribs peeled off the bone and the meat was soft. It didn't melt in my mouth and tickle my tastebuds with ecstasy but, it too, was satisfactory (it wasn't bad). To me, the sauce was basic and to my expectations. Nothing fancy; not bad. Baked potato flavor was good. However, the tiny cup of beans tased like they were cracked open from an expired can from WWI then watered down with bathroom tap. The texture and consistency of canned cat food. Lol. But that's okay. I didn't come for the epic beans. As with all things, it depends on your personal preference. What made my experience a pleasure is the people - always is. Both staff and customers. The vibe of the saloon was a chill friendly energy. People were there to relax and enjoy after a hard days work. And that we did. Good times. Food 4/5. Satisfying. Not bad. Service 5/5. Shout out to Jess! Price 4/5. Fair. As expected. The customer service in this place is absolutely awful. There was a hair in one of our salads and when we brought it to the waitresses attention her response was "oh isn't that great" there was no apology or compensation, the waitress didn't even offer to bring out a new salad...so ridiculous! We didn't get any bread or biscuits, which I think is suppose to be brought out to the table. The food was not great, kind of pricey for being just mediocre but due to the poor customer service we won't be back, it's just not worth it. The staff is just unfriendly unwelcoming and they don't seem to care to be there at all or take care of customer. Such a shame. read more

Friday eve, Oct 9, 2020 Came in No Hostess, after 5 minutes we just went to the bar. It's Covid - not a mask in sight, except for servers. People walking in / out we saw only 1 family wearing masks. Bar experience was excellent. Restaurant server was nice. She checked on us 1x after food was delivered. We ordered a New York - $28 & Ribeye $30 both medium rare. The New york was blue and the ribeye was rare. The New York was full of veins. No we didn't say anything. We were tired and hungry travelers seeking the above average meal one expects at $30 a plate. The included salad was bagged iceberg mix with 1 slice of wilted cucumber. The cheesy garlic biscuits served with garlic butter are small, but tasty. We asked for more and were given ONE. Anyway, if you choose to eat here, stick with the lower end dishes to avoid disappointment. read more

We stopped in for an early bird dinner. You can choose to sit in the restaurant or the bar area. They hostess kind of hinted that the bar area was good, so we chose that. She turned out to be our servers as well. She was very friendly, but also very distracted with the other patrons in the bar and the TVs. It seemed to take a while to get our order taken, our order served, and then our check to finish up. I ordered the 8 oz top sirloin from the early bird menu. The steak was cooked a bit redder than I ordered but it tasted good. The side of rice didn't have much flavor. Both mine and my husband's meals were supposed to come with biscuits, but we never got them while we were eating. I asked the server if we could get them to go a the end of our meal. We also had to ask our server about our included non-alcoholic drink with the early bird specials since she didn't offer them. I also got the tortilla soup with my meal which tasted good. Arrived at 5:30 on Friday for the Catfish on the Early Bird menu which ended at 6PM. I sat at the bar and was greeted by Brooke who was pleasant. She provided me with a dinner menu. I asked if this was they only menu available to which she responded, "Yes, we switch to our dinner menu at 3PM". No problem, I proceed to order, Brooke was as attentive as she could be considering she was the only bartender on a Friday evening. As I completed my meal, Brooke provided me with a dessert menu. Guess what was on the back of it when I flipped it over? Yep, the Early Bird menu. Apparently the do have a menu other than that dinner one. I don't think she realized what she'd done. I asked her, "I thought you said you only had one menu? The Early Bird menu is right here." I got a "deer in the headlights" look from her with no comment or excuse for lying to me. After a very long and difficult day, my brother and i were looking forward to a good steak dinner and drinks. Sadly, this was not the place to get it. Drove in to a nice full parking lot on a cold and rainy week night. Great!! A busy place could mean great food. Entered a nice full lobby. Left standing there for a good 15 minutes until a hostess took our names. Waited another 10 minutes to be seated. Shown to a table in a busy room. Waitress stopped by table to say she would be with us shortly. Following a lengthy conversation with next table over about her personal life and future plans, we were finally able to give our meal and drink orders 13 minutes later. Yes, by that point we were timing it. On to the food. We ordered the ribeye steak and the cattleman steak. Cooked well, tasted good but so tough almost inedible. Menu indicated beans and home made biscuits. We got 1 small cup of beans to share and no biscuits. Salad was good. For a $90.00 meal for 2 with only 1 beer each for adult beverages we left feeling totally unsatisfied and frankly ripped off. Will be back in the area several times in the next few weeks. We went here on a referral from a cab driver. We got there around 7:45pm so I would think somewhat dinner rush time. They were not busy. We had to go find someone to seat us as it appeared the hostesses where attending to clean the restrooms. They did not acknowledge us at all just would walk by and look at us. They have a bar side and a restaurant side. We were seated in the restaurant side. The biscuits they bring out were fresh and had a great flavor. Looks like them made them in-house. Excited to try an actual steak meal since it was a steakhouse. My husband and I split an order the Filet Mignon medium rare with mashed potatoes and two side salads. When the salads came out the were covered in dressing when we asked for it on the side. It was a like eating a "salad in a bag" you would get at the store with just tortilla strips on top. The filet mignon came out with a scoop of mashed potatoes and brown gray that tasted like the store bought jar of gray. The filet was wrapped with a slice of bacon that was not fully cooked. The meat was underwhelming to say the least. Though cook to the right temperature it did not taste as if it was fresh, tasted like something you would buy from a freezer pack with the bacon already on it. We felt rushed and the service seemed as if they had better things to do. When the waitress was clearing our table and asked if she could clear any cups I said not yet and she rudely just said "we are closed" their we still several tables still eating. We left at sharply at 9:10. Wanted to talk to someone about this however again you could find anyone. Ladies restroom was nice and clean on our way out. Business brings me to Kingman Arizona about once a year. One of the things I look forward to most is having a meal or two at the Dam Bar restaurant. The staff is very friendly, the food is delicious and the atmosphere is lively, social and what one might imagine when being in the wide open spaces of Arizona. The hamburger steak and mashed potatoes are the best ever. Beef tips and baked potato are also high on my list. With a big slice of rhubarb pie. Mmmm. I take my meal on the bar side where there are plenty of televisions tuned into the best sports games. The ladies behind the bar, particularly Jessica, are efficiency in motion while being friendly, sassy and attentive to the needs of the customers. We arrived an hour before closing on Father's Day and they were out of the soup, but the biscuits were fresh and warm, the beans were amazing, and the salads fresh and crisp. I had never heard of prickly pear dressing and it was great, with a nice sweet tang. I ordered iced tea and was surprised I was served sweet tea. Tina, our waitress, was incredible. She said they were out since it was close to closing but she went and brewed some tea and put it over ice. Wow! My husband's filet was great although a little undercooked for medium rare, and the loaded baked potatoes were perfect. I ordered the prime rib and sadly it was so rare I could not eat it, and the cook had gone home. My daughter had the chicken fried steak, which had a nice kick served over peppers. Average place. We both ordered prime rib Texas style so thrown on the grill for a bit. Seemed much more like a steak than prime rib. A bit chewy and not much flavor. Did love the horseradish sauce. Started out with salad which was iceberg a bit of red cabbage and carrots. I had blue cheese which was pretty good and good ranch. The biscuits are small but tender and not too bad...not sure about the little chunks of I think cheese in them. Baked potato was good and the garlic mashed were pretty tasty. Didn't try beans cause neither of us are bean eaters. Service was good...amazing that Hailey can remember everything in her head! She didn't try to up sell dessert which was fine for us but always believe a server should try to make house extra money and one great way is to offer up desserts with amazing details to sell it.
