A bit on pricier side . I am a connoisseur of fish and chips the outside was thick and in too long lots of old oil taste came out of the skin. I hate tasting oil I know needs to be changed out. It tasted like the bottom of a tin can. The plates are huge which is a plus? Food was ok the inside of the fish was decent whitish gray but did not taste fresh as it was chewy. Fries were mediocre. Now for the All screwed up drink was tasty but again on pricier side so couldn't order more than one. The alcohol was all at bottom so had to mix myself and same with all the drinks we ordered (mai tai, Shirley temple etc) We often walk past this place on lunch break and decided to do dinner here. Worth the try but wouldn't come again. The chairs were uncomfortable. It did not have official tiki feel with rainforest and bird sounds. Ambiance needs work. Parking is metered and timed . Waiter took 40 mins to give us our check after we were done. Waiter didn't come to refill the water or ask if we needed anything else and there wasn't many people when we were seated . Everything was delicious. The birthday boy loved his steak. The place was clean & waiter was very nice.

Damon's advertises on their menus that they are open for lunch, but it must be some kind of prank because when you show up at lunchtime they are closed. If you don't want to open before 3pm why say that you serve lunch? I guess they just like wasting people's time. I was extremely annoyed at first but then I read some recent reviews and it looks like I saved myself the trouble of a bad meal and bad service. I won't be returning! read more

A clear fixture in the city of Glendale, and at this point a homage to the 70s Tahitian theme restaurants and bars, Damon's is a classic favorite in history and in todays' restaurant scene in the city. The steaks are good, but not chop house quality or highend steak houses. They serve up a good cut of beef or pork a slightly more affordable prices. Accompaniments are also classic. From a twice baked potato to white bread sliced up from supermarket loafs, the experience is timeless here. On the weekends, there is a Prime Rib Roast available in three cuts. The largest being 20 ounces, but that may be before they cook it. Seafood dishes are also available, but Damon's is better on land than in the seas. Went in this past Saturday, December 17, 2022. I didn't realize it was suggested that we make reservations prior. So we decided to check it out. Gladly we did. They did seat us right smack in the middle of the dinner rush. Although they said it might be a wait for our server. There wasn't a wait at all from our server. We sat in the Banquet Room and our female server was great. She knew the menu and was answering whatever we asked about the food. There is so much good food, the bread, meats were so yummy-good. As mentioned, everything was so yummy-good but the twice baked potato was to die for. I couldn't believe just how dang good it was. Thank you for the great service and food. This place was likely created before Islands, which is that burger place we all know, but it has a bit of style and feel just like this married with a Cracker Barrel/Red Robin feel to it. We decided to eat meat this time. We went on one of the prime rib days Fri, Sat, and Sun. I think the meat is overpriced for the quality you get. The prime rib was like getting a cut of meat from an all you can eat buffet.  It was also very tough in the center, and I normally throw this away because of that. However, this 20 oz cut was $51, and I regret not getting the ribeye. I shouldn't have listened to the server's recommendation. My partner ordered a filet mignon. She enjoyed it for the most part.  For the area, I am surprised that they are still cooking old school with just basic items.  All in all, it seems the bar is more happening than the regular food items. This place is in bad need of a makeover, and indeed, if they want the younger crowds, they would need to do it. read more

The prime rib was good, albeit over priced. The pulled pork is tasty and would make a good sandwich. The mac & cheese is dry but not bad. The service was pretty poor, I needed to ask the busser for water and the bill. However he was very friendly and attentive. We've been going to Damon's for 40 years but not for the past two years. I ordered my usual New York strip steak and was surprised to see that it came smothered in onion rings (often a bad sign), with a bone. The meat was fatty and full of gristle with only about two bites of actual good tasting steak. I checked the menu on the way out and it had described the cut accurately as "Bone in Choice New York." In the past it must have been a prime cut: just a little fat around the edges and no onion rings to camouflage the inferior cut. Other people at the table got the tenderloin and said it was good and it didn't appear to have any fat or gristle. Moral of the story for me is that if I want a good NY strip, I'll have to go to Ruth's Chris and pay a lot more money. We've always loved Damon's so we'll go back but next time I'll order the tenderloin or the filet. read more

This is one of our favorite places to go and has been for 15 years. This is where we bring out of state family and friends for their "California" dinner. My husband and I are huge fans of the authentic tiki experience. The Royal Hawaiian in Laguna Beach, and Beachcomber Don's closed down, this is now our primary classic tiki go-to. It's familiar. We're known. It's consistently good. Consistently friendly. Consistently and charmingly authentic. We have even brought work acquaintances from as far away from China and Germany. Not to mention we have introduced two new generations to the magic of a chopped salad. We now have adult nieces and nephews coming to California for beach or Disney or Harry Potter trips who bring their friends and other side of the family to Damon's. And we have family members who insist that a visit to Damon's is a required part of their visit. Please don't change ownership. Please don't change the menu or the atmosphere. My husband is originally from LA and every time we visit his family, we make Damon's our place for birthdays, anniversaries, etc. It has always been great, the atmosphere is cozy, and we particularly love their drinks, house salad and the filet. However, this time was a far cry from the Damon's we know and love, and frankly, very disappointing. It was my husband's birthday, so we made a reservation for 6 at 7:45p after his brother's soccer game. His game ran a bit late, so we called to let them know we were still on our way and got there at 8:05pm. They were very busy, however, it took at least 10 minutes for anyone to greet us at our table. The server assistant finally came over to offer us waters. We asked who our waiter was, and he pointed us to Ruben and said that they had someone call out. Ruben finally showed up and took our order. We were willing to look past the initial wait/lack of acknowledgment from the staff, especially as both my husband and MIL have spent several years in the food industry and could sympathize. We really never complain when we eat out, even when it's not great. However, this is when it continued to go downhill. My BIL ordered a mac n cheese that showed up with no cheese. No exaggeration - it was noodles and bread crumbs. The garlic cheese bread was burnt to a crisp. And my husband's prime rib was cold as ice. We grabbed Ruben and showed him. Instead of just apologizing and making it right, we got every excuse in the book. He told my husband since his steak was ordered medium rare, it is supposed to be cold. I've never had a cold prime rib in my life, even when it was rare. He told my brother in law that's just "how the mac n cheese is," even though the entire reason he ordered it was because he saw someone else's and it was doused in cheese sauce. Suddenly, Ruben came back with what actually looked like mac n cheese and reheated my husband's steak. Then, unfortunately, my BIL cut into his steak and found a long, dark curly hair that (not to be graphic) acted like literal floss in between his teeth. You would think we would get an apology for that, but instead we were told "the entire kitchen is bald" and the steak was remade. 30 min later we got a new steak and Ruben brought out a slice of cake for my husband's birthday. At this point, my MIL asked to speak to a manager, and instead we had the host??? (not sure her actual position but not the GM) come over to our table to apologize and give us a ~half~ order of the burnt bread to go. And my husband's cake slice was comped...because it was his birthday and we didn't order it. Nothing was taken off our bill, not even the steak with the hair in it, and the half order of bread to go was honestly just insulting. We left a place we used to love with a bad taste in our mouths. My MIL called the next day because we honestly wanted to give Damon's the benefit of the doubt and the chance to make it right. More about the principle than anything else after spending over $300 and still tipping 20%. The first woman (I think the same host from that night) told my MIL that we had to wait because we didn't get there until 8:30. I have a text and parking ticket that showed we were there at 8:05 (after we had called). However, we waited until about 8:30 to be acknowledged or get drinks. Then finally she got ahold of the GM who said that he was aware of situation but didn't come over to our table last night because he was headed out. Ok. Then after explaining our bad experience, she was told that he would "hope that we could look past this one bad experience" since we've had good experiences in the past. More excuses. He said he was "under the impression" that the steak with the hair was comped by his staff and said he would call back. 2 hours later, he finally calls back to say that their policy is that they can't comp any food if it is refired since costs are high have a nice day. I've been living in Glendale for four years and am a Los Angeles native, so it's really inexcusable that I finally went to Damon's for the first time last night. As someone who loves kitsch and mid-century decor, it's exactly what you want from an authentic nostalgic tiki experience. The food was fine, I would definitely order less as we ordered potato skins garlic bread and each of us ordered a regular entrée and it was definitely too much food for two people. The coconut shrimp are amazing but they are very generous so keep that in mind when you order. The maitai's were tasty but what made the whole night very special was the amazing service we got from our waitress, Mary. She was an absolute delight, and we liked engaging in conversation with her because she had such a great bubbly personality and really helped on suggesting the "hits" on the menu.. She also told us stories as she's worked there for over 26 years. Although I enjoyed the food, the drinks, and the ambience, i enjoyed the service much more. If I could give this place a hundred stars, I would. My husband and I stayed at Hotel Brandwood for our trip to Universal Studios and Damon's just happened to be literally next door so we made a reservation to have dinner there. And oh my god. When I tell you it was the best decision of our trip! The service was great but the food! Now, before I jump into the wonderfulness that is Damon's, I will say skip on the calamari. It was a bit fishy, IMO but the Wagyu Corn Dog was pretty good. The crunch was perfect. Ok, ok. Let's get on with the main event! I ordered the 16 oz Bone-in New York steak (medium) and there is only one word to describe this magnificent dish - PHENOMENAL. That's the word that popped out of my mouth the moment that steak hit my taste buds. So buttery. So juicy. It was absolute perfection. My husband had the rib eye and he thought it was good but no where near as good as the New York steak (so yes, I shared it with him). The portions here are generous and cooked to perfection. I was really looking forward to trying this place as a steakhouse AND a tiki bar. After circling through weekend gridlock to get near the place we finally found a metered parking spot, then had to download the Pay-by-Phone parking app and wade through questions and verifications, ugh! So we had made reservations for my birthday and I wore an obnoxious Hawaiian shirt to celebrate my b-day, and were seated immediately. Great vibe inside and it was packed! My parents invited my husband, me, my sister and her husband to celebrate a wedding anniversary. We drove to Glendale from Chino - well over 40 miles for an early dinner! The ambiance is 50's tiki room. They had a beautifully maintained salt water fish tank with amazing fish swimming about! Could of been nostalgic and fun had the experience been more pleasant. When we arrived we had to hunt down someone to seat us event thought the place only had two other tables in service. We got sat in a center of the room round table with light shining in our eyes like we were soon to be interrogated. We were never asked if we would like a cocktail...I hear they have chi chis and mai tais but I passed since they didn't offer. We were not asked if we'd like appetizers either...Oh and there were small bread plates on our table but the bread and butter never came...hmmm straight on to the meal. Our waiter said we only had 20 minutes for lunch and then dinner service started. Later I looked at the menu and there wasn't a difference in price - so I am not sure why that mattered. Two of us (including me) ordered the salmon, one ordered mahi mahi, one ordered sirloin steak, and one ordered coconut shrimp. I don't have anything bad to say about the food, it was good - just nothing special to discuss. I did notice other tables had bread so we asked for some. We got cold white bread with very little butter on the side...I noticed the other tables had hot crispy bread served in foil? I had announced we were celebrating an anniversary so the couple was brought a think slice of cake with whipped cream and a candle. Cons - we had dirty appetizer plates pre-set on our table. Service staff would bring more drinks and food before clearing used dishes causing us hold the dirty dishes so they could put the new dishes down. Food was ok but not memorable. Service is a solid 4/5, good. The bread they bring to your table before your food comes is the blandest bread ever just skip it. Instead, trust me get the chicken Caesar salad. It was incredible. The chicken was so tender and flavorful. As for the main meal, the prime rib was awesome and so was the pulled pork sandwich. I really like that the entrees came with a soup or salad. We had what I think was a corn chowder soup. It was delicious! They brought it first which I appreciated. The pulled pork sandwich was good, but again the bread on this just wasn't for me. The pulled pork was great. I would order the pulled pork entree next time instead of in sandwich form. My only other complaint is they don't give warm towels or wet napkins after your meal. Love this place, a family favorite of ours for over 20 years! The food is easy and fun and the ambiance is is a blast.

I don't think twice about where to go when I am in the mood for Rum and Tiki drinks... The only place that I can think of that matches Tiki cocktail making prowess is Sparr Tavern (underrated and hidden away a couple minutes drive up town!) The decorations are nice (especially love the fish tank). But the drinks come in plain glasses, which is a little bit of a let down. Some place this well decorated should have their signature drinks come in some nice (and themed) mugs. We came in on a hot day, and I was also a little disappointed to be seated in an area that the A/C was not as strong. Seems like the system is coldest in the center - maybe they need to make a quick check on their HVAC system before summer's heat takes it up another notch or two. Service was great though.
