Damon's is an institution, so there will be institutional things about it. Such as the Coulotte cut steak, and the salad with 1000 Island (the salad is really tasty... Weird at first, but soon you can't get enough. There will be people in their 80s here, so be respectful. Don't be all loud and obnoxious. This place is a touchstone for them. I've been mamy times and I usually get the prime rib, which is always excellent. The New York is a little thin, and has been grissley lately. I'd pass on the BBQ. Let me start with our waiter, Ruben. Very very helpful and even tolerated my sense of humor. All around good guy and personality. We met some friends there for dinner. ALL of the food looked amazing. My wife and I both ordered the filet mignon. It looked so good when it arrived, I actually forgot to take a photo. It was amazing!! Next, we ordered desert and let me tell you...AMAZING!! Pictures of the chocolate cake as well as the orange cake included. Can I talk about the water for a moment? I like drinking water and it's just as important for the water to be good. The entire experience here was just weird and off putting in every way possible. When you walk in, you have to go all the way to the back of the restaurant to get to the hostess stand. When ordering, we asked if we could choose the dressing on our salad and the waiter told us that "no, everyone likes it the Damon way. It's a thing." The food was no better than theme park cafeteria food. The most uncomfortable part was the fact that we felt like we were in a cheap B rated horror film. My friend and I went there for dinner and started off the evening with some cocktails. Whoa, they don't mess around with those! My friend ordered the very popular Chi Chi while I had the original Mai Tai. Both were refreshing and very tasty, but one was all I could handle without some food! So, we shared some garlic bread and their house salad. The bread came out warm and full of butter and garlic on a pillowy French bread...sinful and worth it! The house salad consisted of chopped ice berg lettuce, celery and finely sliced beets, with a secret French dressing, all tossed in front of us. It doesn't sound like much, but it's definitely the dressing that makes it shine. Plus it was definitely enough to share. For our entree, we shared a bbq pork and brisket combo platter. The pork was flavorful and tender, as was the brisket. The brisket probably could've used a tad more seasoning but the bbq sauce was a nice compliment for it. The meal came with two sides so we chose the twice baked potato and the fresh cream corn. The potato was huge and creamy, while the corn lived up to its name. Again, no skimping on the ingredients here. But what really made the evening special was our server LINDA. She was the absolute best. Not only was she friendly, helpful and knowledgeable but she was absolutely on it, practically anticipating everything we could have wanted and asked for. Honestly, it's been a while since I've experienced such great service. She really takes pride in what she does and it shows. We had a great time at Damon's. It was a first for both of us. I always had just walked past it on the way to Porto's next door.... Decades later, we finally get to try an establishment that has been there since 1937. Preston was great and took good care of us all night. I had requested a booth when making the reservation and the host that seated us, noticed that so he made sure we got it. Appreciated that. We had mai tais ($9) and a soda ($3.50) to start off along with their complimentary bread. I went with the beef vegetable soup as a starter. I ordered the New York Strip ($29.23) with a twice baked potato. It's a certified angus steak that is served with steak butter. The steak was great and the potato was really good. I recommend it for sure. The lady ordered the blackened rib eye ($29.96) topped with crispy onions and also got the twice baked potato. The rib eye comes with a cajun spice rub and blue cheese peppercorn sauce. She had the house salad as a starter. The twice baked potato is excellent. There is a crispy crust on top and I really like how this spud is made. Perfect with chives and sour cream. We loved the food and the service... We got booth seating as requested. That's a big plus. The only thing I would improve is that they have to redo/update the booth cushions. It was a bit lumpy with not much cushioning. Restrooms need updating too. Other than that, our Friday night dinner at Damon's was great. We would go back again for sure. Metered parking lot out back or along Brand Blvd out front. Make sure to check the times. Entrances also from the front & back. Bar scene is vibrant. I think happy hour at the bar is until 7 so that explains why people had mai tais in hand prior to being seated as we were there around 6:45pm. Avoid this place!!! The service was one of the worst I' e ever experienced, I had to yell so loud just to get our server to acknowledge us . They never came to refill our drinks, they gave us the entirely wrong meal for my son & as a different waiter went by we tried to get his attention for water & he looked at us like we were begging for money & just kept walking! We came here last night for Mai tai Monday. Me and my two girlfriends thought it was pretty darn good! We started with their crunchy chopped salad and coconut shrimp which smelled good but it wasn't gluten-free The mussels were excellent (except for one) I love the white wine and garlic sauce and wanted to drink it all! My girlfriends had the ribs and pork slabs which they couldn't finish and took home for breakfast. The portions are huge! Food is a solid four star and the ambience is a three star but I'm being generous because they were so nice. Thick on-the-bone ribeye topped with Onion Strings, huge creamy potato with gravy on the side, crispy coconut shrimp with citrus dipping sauce...I couldn't believe my eyes, let alone my taste buds!! Been going to Damon's since the 1950s. It was always wonderful. The prices were right the food was delicious the re-baked potato wonderful the salad fantastic always the same by the same lady that had her secret recipe. The garlic bread was usually very good. My how things have changed through the years! Went to Damon's last week. It was chaotic. I must say very crowded very loud, very noisy. My order of mahi-mahi was delicious. The re-baked potato very sloppily made was similar to what I expected. The famous salad was horrible. Nothing like the original. Also pretty sparsely served. The garlic bread was a complete disaster. Horrible bread, even when served without the garlic on it, a terrible representation for bread at a nice restaurant. The mai tai which Damon is known for, was 1/3 the size in the glass that was presented. Not only that, did not have the punch so to speak of their famous mai tais. It was to say very disappointing and I don't believe I will go back to Damon's anytime soon. So sad To take a well known restaurant and change it so completely. read more

It's a nice casual family restaurant with good ambience and friendly wait staff. Food is good and reasonably priced.

First off, I love a good old-school steakhouse. The fact that it has history as a tiki bar, too was impossible to resist trying. When you walk in, there's promise. Decor is tiki-ish, fun and old-school authentic but then you see that the lights are turned up way too bright, there are kids everywhere, the tiki bar is just a spots bar with a giant TV and the place is more like a diner than a steakhouse. I'm not sure if this is always how it's been but I bet it was cooler in its heyday. My Mai Tai was made with OJ and not a hint of orgeat (almond syrup) that is traditional to the drink. I think it was made with Malibu but I can't be sure. Disgusting and a disgrace to tiki and any well made Mai Tai. The pulled pork came out ice cold and was way too saucy. It was gross. The rigatoni (don't ask me why I ordered this here but I did) was gloppy and disgusting. The only thing decent was the old school salad with French dressing and beets. If you're reading this, you're probably not looking for an old-school steakhouse or tiki. You may just want to go to a tropical looking diner/sports bar with the kids and celebrate a birthday.
