    Thai tea

We've been here twice now and honestly, the food keeps pulling us back. The pan‑fried dumplings and the crab fried rice are the stars of the show. That fried rice hits hard! Tons of crab and that smoky wok hei flavor that makes you want to order another bowl. We tried a bunch of other dishes too and they were all solid. The xiao long bao are juicy, the spicy dumplings have a nice kick, the pickled cucumber is super refreshing, and the mapo tofu is comforting. Even the Thai tea was great. Service was just okay imo nothing bad, just pretty standard. The space itself is clean, modern, and fits the vibe of the name. Overall this is one of those spots we're happy to keep coming back to. The food delivers every time, especially those dumplings and that fried rice.

Came here for dinner, wait time wasn't long, everything was absolutely delicious we tried a variety of dishes. Mason our server was amazing, informative, attentive and hilarious. It's a chill ambiance for date night, solo or with friends/family.

Good as a one-time experience, but I wouldn't come back. For appetizers, we ordered the pickled cucumbers and the seafood tofu salad -- both were tasty and interesting. The cucumbers had a nice fresh flavor with just the right amount of salt, and the tofu seafood salad also tasted super fresh. For my main dish, I had the Pork Soup Dumplings. They were very juicy and had a good flavor. For dessert, I ordered the black sugar boba, and that's where things went downhill. It had a strange, unpleasant taste. It was extremely sweet, the boba pearls were soggy instead of chewy (also very sweet), and the milk tea itself was nothing special -- I couldn't even taste the tea. The service was good, and the ambiance was okay, but I didn't like the seating arrangement and it didn't feel cozy.

Delicious food and fantastic service! We loved it! Very good dumplings and chicken noodle soup

Love to come to dans! The food here is always so flavorful and yummy. I love their noodles and fried rice. They have the best flavor and the perfect amount of salty. The services here tends to be great and never a long wait!

i've seen reviews comparing dan to dtf, and i can't say i agree... but i did enjoy my dining experience here! i do like the option of steamed, pan fried, and even extra crispy dumplings! if there was a vegetarian xlb i would've loved to try it, but i settled for the vegetable dumplings, and got them pan fried. i also wish there was an option for chili oil in the vegetable dumplings, but luckily our server supplied us some on the side. i wish the description said what was in the dumplings, it seemed to mostly be spinach with maybe small chunks of mushroom and tofu? regardless, it wasn't very impressive in flavor. the vegetable dan mein was the highlight of my meal! the veggies are done beautifully and the noodles are lathered in a delicious sauce. definitely would come back for these, and maybe to try some of the veggie appetizers. overall, portions are not very large if you plan on sharing. parking in the area is also pretty difficult, so be prepared to pay in a nearby lot

10/10 hands down one of the best thick noddles I've had, the meat melts in your mouth. Vegetable Fried Rice paired well with th noddles. I always love a pickled cucumber side dish I think this is a great add on always. We also ordered the pan fried pork dumplings. Staff was very friendly, service is fast too. Perfect for family and big groups. Indoor dining is all that is available. I have been wanting to try this spot for the longest but Sawtelle location closes early but this was a treat!

Santa Monica is a terrible place the only good thing there is interscope headquarters!! The service is bad at the end of the day because they get irritable!! The ambiance is so mid, you look around and it's tons of other people making tons of loud noise in a bad annoying way that makes you wanna leave. Food is mid.

This place is often compared to Din Tai Fung and I have to agree it's about the same quality (Just average imo) and price. The interior decor has a modern feel, as the name suggests. Portions were small, if you plan on doing family style be sure to double up on everything. We felt the service could be a bit faster, as even on an empty lunch service food took a while to come out. There's a nearby parking structure and only a 15 min walk to the pier. They do not validate for parking.

Came across this place in Santa Monica and decided to check it out. Really wanted to try the three cup chicken and we weren't disappointed. Made the mistake of ordering two cups of rice which is actually a lot. Service was quick and reasonably priced.

Love this spot they never fail to let me down, I brought my family with me this time and it was great to see that this place carries such a wide variety that everyone was able to find something! The location is perfect just one block away from the pier and the food was incredibly flavorful and perfect! Thank you to our server Mason who made this dinner even more enjoyable with his conversation and recommendations!

Went early to see if anything opened or if walk-in would be faster, surprisingly they actually had something come available sooner. We opted to sit inside and loved the ambiance. Food - amazing! I read reviews first and watched a couple IG videos so I knew a general idea of what we wanted to order. Glad the server suggested the orange chicken over the walnut shrimp when we were debating it. Chil wontons, absolutely a must get, different from DTF, not crazy spicy but full of flavor and richness. XO fatty noodles, perfect chewiness on the rolled noodles and the flavors were well balanced, we enjoyed them with a little chili paste and the orange chicken as the protein. Orange chicken, soooo much more flavorful than your average Panda Express orange chicken, good sized nuggets of chicken that were crispy and tender at the same time, and the zest livened it up. BBQ pork shank, our server did warn us it's not the easiest to eat, but it's worth it, hard to see cutting it off the bone because it was so dimly lite in the restaurant and your hands will get sticky but once you get chunks off the bone and your bao bun built it's delicious especially when you get the lacquered crispy skin yummm! Only skip for the night was the mango sticky rice. Much rather would've spend $8 on something else. The mango was tart/sour. The sticky rice was too wet and mushy. It was a pass for both of us. Service - our server was awesome. From greeting to end, he was the right amount of attentive and was super helpful with suggestions. Everyone from the food runner to the busser, they were all so nice. From getting us chili paste or to go containers, customer service was on point. Parking - love love that are a few parking spaces right out front. They're metered. But after 8pm it was free so perfect for us. Other than those spaces, there's a lot across the street if you want to risk it or also side streets parking too.

Ambiance is stylish and dim inside, and it started to get quite loud inside. Service was attentive throughout our meal. What we tried: - Beef roll ($22) - with scallion pancake wrapped around wagyu beef, chili mayo, served with a side of beef broth. I loved this one, every bite was a burst of flavors and textures and the combination was so tasty! - Squid ink Xiao long bao ($18) - shrimp and pork dumplings, these were good but pretty standard compared to other XLB I've had - 3 cup chicken ($21) - made with garlic, ginger, green onion, Thai basil, dried chili. The chicken was so tender and the dish super garlicky which I loved. Goes well with rice, but is a bit on the salty side - XO fatty noodles ($20) - rolled chow fun with bean sprouts, garlic chives, and XO sauce. Amazingly garlicky and savory, and I just love the texture of the rolled chow fun Definitely a solid neighborhood spot I find myself coming back to! Metered or neighborhood parking.

It's a huge space that gave more industrial vibe to me than traditional Taiwanese theme, but it's totally a very convenient dining spot for both small and big group. We tried some from the menu and were pleased by all of them. They might look small but very filling actually since all the bowls were filled to top. The Dan Dan noodles have flavorful peanut sauce with it perfect noodles texture. Would recommend add extra sides for proteins, which we opted for pork belly and minced pork. The belly was extremely tender with thick juicy slices. The minced pork was equally palatable. They're generous in portion for being sides, we even packed some home. We obviously didn't skip their Hakka Mochi for dessert, which were still warm chewy yet moist when served and covered in overflowing black sesame and peanut powder. I wasn't usually a fan of black sesame but decided to give this one a try anyway and ending up no regrets at all! The powder was such spoiling mix of sweet and salty in one bite.

I still have a few places people keep recommending that I need to try before I can officially pick a favorite, but Dan has set the bar really high. If you go, you have to get the soup dumplings. They're the star of the show for a reason. Packed with rich broth and flavor, they're everything I want in a soup dumpling and the main reason I'll keep coming back. Another must-order is the spicy wontons. The wontons themselves are delicious, but that sauce is on another level. Don't let it go to waste. We ended up using the extra sauce on other dishes at the table because it was that good. We also ordered some of their other popular dishes, including the Dan Dan noodles and beef roll, and both were fantastic. The noodles were flavorful with a nice kick, and the beef roll had the perfect balance of crispy, chewy, and savory. The dry-fried green beans were another standout and ended up being one of my favorite dishes of the meal. My friends couldn't stop talking about the salad either. It was fresh, flavorful, and somehow disappeared from the table almost immediately. The restaurant is clean, modern, and welcoming, the service was friendly, and everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. It's not easy to find a place that delivers this level of quality without spending a fortune, but Dan manages to do exactly that. If you're a dumpling lover, this place absolutely deserves a spot on your list. Just make sure you order the soup dumplings, add the spicy wontons, and save every drop of that sauce.

Delicate wrappers, juicy filling, and exactly what you want from a great dumpling. I ordered the Mapo Tofu and the Dan Dan Noodles, and both were outstanding. Mapo tofu is my favorite Chinese dish, so I'm always hopeful but picky when ordering it. This version exceeded every expectation. The seasoning was incredible: deep, complex, and savory. Easily among the most flavorful preparations I've ever had. Every bite had layers of flavor that kept me going back for more. The Dan Dan Noodles were equally memorable. They had a pleasantly creamy texture that balanced beautifully with a lingering spicy finish. Rich without being heavy, spicy without overpowering the dish, just incredibly well executed. My dad ordered the sesame noodles with pork and the egg fried rice. The sesame noodles had a wonderful balance of flavors: spicy but delicately seasoned, allowing each ingredient to shine without overwhelming heat. The egg fried rice was the perfect complement and exactly what great fried rice should be. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared and packed with flavor. It was brought out as it was cooked so everything was the perfect temperature. Between the incredible food, generous portions, and Sawtelle location, dan modern has officially earned a spot on our must-visit list whenever we're in Los Angeles.

The staff here is well put together and in sync from the moment you walk in, go to the bathroom, and up to when you leave. Each time you leave they don't just fix your napkin but they replace it. Decor is minimal but I liked the ambiance. The bathroom is a little darker than expected though. haha As for the food, we did the tasting menu and I really enjoyed the variety of proteins with the fish, duck, quail, and more. The first entrees were really refreshing and I enjoy that the menu changes seasonally so they really cater to using the freshest and in season ingredients. Loved the fois gras/milk roll and the desserts the most but I thought the tasting menu was creative with presentation and how you are supposed to eat it. They even have some additions you can order with your meal ahead of time so they can plan in between the standard items. We didn't try them this time around but I am curious to come back during another season to see the menu they present. Waiters were always quick to refill glasses, offer wine recommendations, and clean up. We didn't try the cocktails this time around but they looked really interesting and even have a pairing you can order with your tasting. It was a nice touch to know the art is an homage to art from his family and it was a nice surprise to get some tea to go as a gift.

If you've ever had popcorn chicken from a good boba shop, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. The chicken is crispy, juicy, perfectly seasoned, and somehow manages to disappear before I make it home. The fried basil is the real MVP though! crispy, fragrant, and incredibly addictive! Highly recommend checking out this local gem!!!

We asked for not spicy and there was only a hint of white pepper. The only negative was the presentation. It is served in a large paper cone. That's fine if you're eating and walking with it. But at a table, the cone was so tall that you have to stand up to see the chicken inside. And you have to rotate the cone if you're sharing since one side of the cone is taller than the other. The stinky tofu was serviceable but it could have been stinkier. The beef noodle soup was okay. The beef was very tender and the soup was good. But it's not as flavorful as the ones at Sue's Kitchen up the street. The only miss for me was the Dan Dan noodles. I was warned it was spicy but it was a bit spicier than I anticipated. That's ok but the sauce had a weird sour taste to it that was kind of off putting. The service is very attentive. I wish they served boba drinks. Overall we will definitely be back. I can't wait until they open their new branch up in Palos Verdes later this year.
