Came here on a rainy evening. There were not many customers inside. The restaurant was clean and spacious, and the service was great. We ordered two noodle soups: House Pork Rib Noodle Soup and Chicken Noodle Golden Soup. The pork rib noodle soup tasted much better than the chicken noodle golden soup. The pork rib soup was very savory, and the pork ribs were soft and tender. The chicken noodle golden soup, on the other hand, was a bit salty, and the chicken slices were too tough. We also ordered two side dishes: Numbing Spicy Chicken and Wood Ear Mushroom. They were just okay--slightly oily and heavy. The chicken was too tough.
Yummy noodles and friendly staff, but really horrible dumplings. Stick to the noodles and veggies - you'll be good! This is what we had: House beef noodle soup: 3.5/5 choose from fresh rice or egg noodles, spicy or not. It could have had more fixing inside. Dry spicy beef noodles: 5/5 the best dish of all. The noodles were the perfect mixture of chewy and soft, cooked perfectly! Lots of flavor and just the right amount of spice and savory. Cold sesame noodles: 2/5. Fresh noodles but very light on flavor. Authentic sesame noodles have a much thicker sauce to it. These were almost like plain noodles with cucumber. Black fungus: 4/5 a cold, flavorful tart dish that was refreshing. It complemented all our noodle dishes well. Truffle mushroom dumplings: 1/5 ugh. What truffle?! What mushroom? It was seriously zucchini and carrot in a beautifully wrapped, but overly thick, undercooked dough. Bad flavor, all around bad. They didn't even give us a sauce to amp it up. DO NOT order. Steamed pork dumplings: 2.5/5. Again, too thick of a wrap. Very lackluster on flavor. Waiters were very fast, friendly, and efficient. We may come back just for that dry noodle.
Really solid spot with good varieties of noodles and sharable dishes! We came here with a larger party on a weeknight evening and were lucky to not have to wait - plenty of tables available. Ordering was quick enough and the food came out fast as well - super fresh and delicious. It wasn't too spicy and the noodles were bouncy while the meat was tender. The earwood mushroom was good as well. Prices were fair for everything. If in the area again, I would gladly come back - thanks, Dong Ting!
We got the spicy beef noodle soup, and the pork rib noodle soup, and popcorn chicken. Everything we got tasted great, but the spicy beef noodle soup was our favorite. The restaurant has plenty of seating so we were seated right away. The service was good. You order using a QR code and then the servers bring the food out.
The Numbing Spicy Chicken had heat and that signature Sichuan numbing flavor. The Crystal Noodles with Beef Sauce were chewy and coated in savory sauce. The House Special Beef Noodle Soup was comforting and the beef was tender. The Soy Braised Beef Slices with Cilantro was soft and well-seasoned.
Dong Ting Noodle is located in a heavily trafficked and prime location along Sawtelle Blvd between Santa Monica Blvd and Olympic Blvd. It was disappointing for us to see their "soft opening" signage outside and to learn from our server that they've been open for a year! The soft opening is what initially lured us in and I felt conned by the false advertising which is the rationale behind my less than stellar review. Having said that, we tried a number of items off their menu. The Wild Chili Beef in Chinese Pita and House Crispy Shredded Potato Salad were winners. Their version of Juicy Pork Dumplings were flat in shape and average tasting at best. The House Pork Rib Noodle Soup was bland even after adding chili sauce. The Black Truffles and Mushroom Shaomai were the most disappointing - there was only a mild hint of truffle and it just did not taste good. I recommend taking down the soft opening signage and with so many other quality dining options along Sawtelle, we won't be making a return visit.
You order from your phone using a QR code menu. The food came out blazingly fast like literally 5 minutes! Faster than McDonald's or something like that and it's way more delicious and nutritious. You also can customize you dish and pick what type of noodles you want! It's an amazing concept and the price is affordable for being on Sawtelle. The noodles of the beef noodle soup was cooked well and not too soggy. The broth was flavorful and rich but not overly spicy as in pepper hot but well spiced in the sense of aromatics. If I had the stomach space I would eat two bowls of noodles it was that good, but I opted to save room for dessert on the nearby shops. Parking is street and can be a bit of a challenge but totally worth going to this restaurant. A new favorite!
Easily one of the best noodle spots in West LA -- the kind of restaurant that keeps you coming back. Few things feel more nostalgic than sitting down to a bowl of their House Special Beef Innards Noodles after being far from home. The chili oil is rich and aromatic, the innards are tender and deeply infused with flavor, the noodles are perfectly firm, and the cilantro adds a refreshing herbal lift. Every element feels thoughtfully prepared and flawlessly executed. Beyond their signature noodles, the crystal rice noodles are a standout -- light and refreshing, perfect for hot summer days. The menu also features an extensive selection of appetizers, all solidly executed and worth exploring.
The Baseline: For a Chinese noodle restaurant the noodles must be fresh, cooked with consistency in firmness, broth must be tasty with good body, accompaniment additions must match with the style, and the plating must work for the soup/noodle presentation/function. Food: Good consistency to the noodles and the broth was spicy but not overwhelmingly so. The meat was good but I did get a tendon piece in it. I wish I got more veggies in it but that wasn't what I ordered. I think I would love this more on a colder day and I ate in the restaurant. The to-go was very hot temperature wise and that made it a lot better when I ate at the office. I have been here before an had dumplings that were very good so I think it is better to eat at the restaurant. Service: The service was great picking up food with minimal wait and friendly interaction. The in person service is really efficient and to the point which I can appreciate. Atmosphere: It is a nice lay out for tables/seating though the ordering kiosk takes away from a higher scale experience. The technology improves and we will have more of these type of layouts. Clean bathrooms.
Surprised that they started offering spicy fish (烤鱼）. It's hard to find chinese style spicy whole fish in west LA. I enjoyed it. The noodles are free. The spicy cold chicken （椒麻鸡）is a mindblower. Numbing and spicy flavor so addicting. I'll get it again! cold noodles personally I think lack flavor. The sesame taste is weak and not very sour. But might be a different region that I'm not used to. Very clean and modern restaurant good ambiance. Service is friendly and attentive here. 椒麻鸡真的很好吃。粉什么的我也是回头客。烤鱼不错的。凉皮我觉得一般般
Some days I'm hungry for something light on the tummy but full of flavor--a pairing that's harder to find than one might think. So, while DongTing Noodle in Sawtelle certainly is better known for its rich selection, their Chicken Noodle Golden Soup blew me away with its fullness and simplicity. Spoonful after spoonful, it quickly became clear this was exactly the dinner I was hoping for and more.
Dong Ting Noodle is one of my go-to spots! Great value, great food, and incredibly friendly and fast service. We come here pretty often on Sundays after a full day of badminton and leave totally stuffed! It's clean and spacious inside - and rarely ever is there a wait! Here's what I've ordered from across multiple visits: - Pork Belly Rice (5/5): Great value order - I order this all the time on Uber Eats from work and at 11 dollars, it is a steal. Be the envy of all your coworkers as you open this aroma bomb in the cafeteria! The pork is super tender and cut so that every piece has a bit of fat on it, and the vegetables add an acidity that helps balance out the fat. - Beef Noodle Soup (4.5/5): Honestly, probably the best in west side. The broth is super flavorful, the beef tender, and I love their egg noodles. Word of caution: if you order this spicy, it comes with a thick coating of spicy oil over the top of your dish. I don't think anyone who's ordered this spicy has liked the copious amount of oil, so I'd recommend ordering the original and adding spicy oil yourself. Popcorn Chicken (5/5): Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, fragrant and flavorful. Amongst the best popcorn chicken I've had. Just don't order this via delivery, it does not travel well (their containers also trap moisture). Numbing Spicy Chicken (Cold Appetizer) (4.5/5): A "mild" spice for people that can eat really spicy food. The chicken is full of meat and paired with the sauce is strangely addicting! Beef and Onion Shao Mai (2/5): Unfortunately, I can't recommend their shao mai compared to everything else on their menu. Part of the wrapper was still hard - not fully steamed - and the meat was kind of dry. Price wise, it's also pretty expensive for what you get. Chicken Noodle Golden Soup (4.5/5): I got this delivered when I was sick with the flu and it hit the spot. Hearty and flavor packed soup with a really strong and pure flavor of chicken. I prefer the beef noodle soup taste wise slightly more since the chicken soup can feel a bit more one dimensional flavor wise due to the mild flavor of chicken and lack of sour vegetables. Wood ear mushroom (4/5): Definitely not something I'd order independently, but it's one of the options for the bundles on Uber Eats. A very mild spice with a bit of sourness, it's quite refreshing. The portion size on it is definitely a lot for one person! I know I'll be visiting or ordering again soon - thank you for the great meals!
My friends and I happened upon Dong Ting Noodle during an excursion to Sawtelle on a rainy day, and boy were we not disappointed. Combining yummy food a pleasant environment, Dong Ting Noodle is a must try. Spicy special fish (5/5): The fish was cooked to perfection, tender on the inside and sitting in a pool of deliciously spicy chili broth. It was pretty spicy, so having a decent spice tolerance would be good for this dish. Xiao Long Bao (5/5): About as good as xiao long bao gets, with thin skin and savory broth inside.
This is a pretty good place to eat in the Japanese centric area of Sawtelle. The chicken (fried chicken) is excellent and a good portion. I also tried the noodle soup, which was good. Parking can be easy on the weekdays if you park in the adjacent neighborhood residential streets (watch for parking restriction signs to avoid getting any tickets). The downside to this place in my opinion is the automated "APP" ordering system using a QR reader menu and online ordering. I'd say it would be more personal to have a human being take orders and engage with customers who may have questions and create a friendly vibe. The staff were helpful and friendly, so that wasn't the problem, it's the lack of opportunity for engagement that I think would make this place a bit more warm and fuzzy feeling in atmosphere. read more
Dongting Noodle is located in the Sawtelle area. My boyfriend and I were looking for a light lunch spot in the area and this seemed to be a good option. We actually didn't expect too much at a glance, but we were pleasantly surprised by our experience here. We were welcomed in and told we could sit anywhere we want. There was plenty of tables. The atmosphere was casual and laid back. The staff here are super nice and friendly. When another family come in, I saw how the workers went to grab a high chair and ran to reconfigure the table to give the family more space. It was a genuine and proactive display of customer service and care. They had physical menus, but you can scan the QR code at the table to order on your phones. My boyfriend and I shared a Beef Noodle Soup Combo ($19.99) and a Juicy Pork Dumplings ($9.99). This was a great deal because the beef noodle soup combo came with a snack in which we opted for the Wood Ear Mushroom and a drink in which we opted for the Arctic Orange Soda. The food was prepared quickly. The beef noodle soup combo came out first, and the dumplings came later on. It was quick AND TASTY. Wow! We try a lot of beef noodle soup but this beef is soft flavorful and tender. The portion of the wood ear mushroom was generous. The juicy pork dumplings had a thick skin compared to other xiao long bao places we've been to but the inside is tasty and balanced. A pleasant discovery that exceeded our expectations. I got the beef noodle soup (egg noodles, no cilantro, and spicy) and it was so delicious. The mustard greens added so much complexity and depth to the broth. The beef was so tender and juicy, truly delightful. I think this was the best beef noodle soup broth that I've ever had that didn't have cilantro. The service was quick and attentive. They filled up waters regularly. They were very polite and friendly. The whole place was clean with a really hip vibe even though it was pouring rain outside. read more
I've been here twice with my family and it's decent - fresh noodles, decent broth, if not a bit greasy. I tried the golden soup last time and the beef crystal noodles this time. I felt it was too salty - but my family loved their food , so maybe it's just me? Order by QR code and they bring the food out to you. It's a busy area in Sawtelle so parking will be a pain, unless you park in the garage around the corner for $10 flat rate. read more

I came here on a Thursday night to catch up with a friend. It wasn't busy at all and we were seated straight away! They had an interesting feature where you could order on the app and it was directly sent to the kitchen so there was never really a need to interact with the server too much - the server we DID have was very nice though! I ordered the house special beef noodle soup, the snow beef & onion smile dumplings, and the crispy chicken. The beef noodle soup was the exact soupy comfort I needed - the beef was really tender and excellently cooked, the broth itself was veryyyy flavorful and I really enjoyed the crunchiness of all the veggies that were in there. The smile dumplings were sooo tasty, I even opted to put them IN my noodle soup and that was FANTASTIC! They were especially good when I added some of the table chili oil inside as well. And then lastly, the crispy chicken - whenever I'm having multiple *soft* dishes, I always need a side of something extra crispy/crunchy to have a texture break, this chicken was the perfect something. Once again, incredibly flavorful and there was SO much of it that I was able to bring home leftovers. All in all, I really enjoyed all the food I had here! Parking was a little difficult but that's Sawtelle Blvd for ya. In total, I spent around $47 (not including tip) so considering I got 3 things AND had leftovers, I'd say that was a decent price. read more

Hot (pun intended) tip: Be mindful the spice level when ordering hot pot - we accidentally ordered "spicy spicy," and it was off the charts...ha. Love this spot though! Got the beef noodle soup, dry fried bean paste noodle, mini pumpkin pie, and wild chili beef in Chinese pita! Everything tasted really good and prepared very nicely. You order off an online menu, so I can't say much about the service but they were nice and the ambience was spacious and clean. read more

Cute place with a few items if different categories. Dumplings -noodles - hot pot. We ordered shumai (good fill of carrots that weren't quite soft), spicy beef noodles (that needed more spice), and spicy pork dumplings (good ration of filling). Overall pretty good but I won't drive across town. Parking is street paid parking when you can find it. read more

Service is great! Food is decent. One big issue though, we ordered takeout and ordered the Wood ear mushrooms and were happily chomping along until one of us ate something very hard. Turns out there's a bunch of small plastic(?) maybe silica gel balls that were in our food. Tried to call the business several times but they didn't pick up the phone. Hopefully it's the non poisonous kind! read more
Located at the north end of Sawtelle, the restaurant is clean and well-lit with pleasant glass front and semi open kitchen. Inside the seating is on the casual side. The servers were attentive and we got seated right away. Orders can be placed either through QR code or the server can bring physical menu if asked. Great selection of dishes and below are what we ordered: Beef Noodle: the soup broth was flavorful and beef pieces were tender. Noodle consistency was nice. Not too firm nor too soft. On the spot. Black Truffle and Mushroom Dumplings: aesthetically unattractive and there were only a hint of truffle in the fillings. Slightly disappointed. Shredded Chicken Noodle: nice noodle texture, great broth flavor, and the shredded chicken strips were tender. Changsha Spicy Medley: mixture of wood ear mushrooms, bean curds, beef slices and other ingredients. The seasoning was so powerful, it kind of hit your palate on your first try. Friendly and amazing staff! Adam our waiter was so prompt and polite. I got the extreme spicy beef noodles and he made sure due to my request to really make it as spicy as possible! Great for collagen because of the tendons but the soup was very oily so def avoided sipping on it. It was soooo spicy and tangy. Def hit the spot after BeautyCon. Wood ear mushroom salad was so flavorful and tangy. Def one of the best o ever had. Love that this spot is a new addition to Sawtelle read more

Dong Ting Noodle is one of the many restaurants in the Sawtelle area, but it has its own unique dishes and tastes! The interior is modern and inviting, with a window into the kitchen so you can see the food being prepared if you choose to. I ended up ordering their signature dish, the crispy chili beef noodle, and enjoyed it! It's very different from other noodle dishes I've had, and the beef feels almost like jerky in texture. Went here on a Saturday afternoon and got seated quickly. The ambiance was great for our party of 5 (4 adults and a baby). It was casual and loud enough to drown out my baby's occasional squealing haha. Here's a list of what we ordered: Wood ear mushrooms - 5/5 Beef shumai - 4/5 Shrimp/cucumber shumai - 5/5 Beef in Chinese pita - 4/5 Crispy chicken - 5/5 Chicken and mushroom noodles - 4/5 House special beef noodle soup - 5/5 The food left us satisfied but not stomachache kind of full. The food here is incredible!! Everything we ordered was delicious and served within minutes of ordering. Staff was accommodating in getting us everything we needed immediately. We easily sat 5 people in a booth and chairs with plenty of room to order family style, which I highly recommend given the variety of dishes available. The beef in the soup melted in my mouth like butter, reminding me of the texture you find in American pot roast. The pita was incredibly flaky and crispy! The wood ear mushrooms were a great reprieve from the other hot and heavy dishes. Keep in mind that this is not your Americanized Chinese food, so don't expect the stereotypical sauces, spices, etc to accompany your dishes. read more

Stop by for dinner before heading out of city. service was great, however the taste was less satisfied especially the noodle soup. Appetizers were good, medley was very savory and crispy chicken had a little bit spicy kicking into it. We also ordered ShaoMai, they are different but may be authentic, we have never had this type before. We tried all three of the flavor, mushroom is the best. Well, finally it's the noodle, we came here because of that. Maybe expectation was too high, the soup had less taste so does the meat, noodle was very good, but put them together it wasn't rich flavored as expected (ordered chicken, rib, pork and beef noodles). read more

Aside from having to order from my phone after being seated, but having to find a server to pay... the service was great, they even boxed up anything to go. Tried this spot out on a Friday afternoon when parking was easy to find in the surrounding neighborhood. I got the House Special Beef Noodle Soup. I got the pickles on the side cuz I wanted to see how the broth held up on its own without it. Broth was rich, very flavorful, incredibly savory. Noodles were a good texture and chewiness factor. The meat was overall tender and melts in your mouth, however, there are a few pieces here and there that will be chewier and tougher than you'd like-- but that's not something that will keep me from coming back! This place is a little bit hidden off the main Sawtelle street but definitely worth the try. The popcorn chicken was amazing and so addictive, one of the best I've tried in Southern California. The pork rib beef noodle soup was also very good with good cuts of tender rib and the rice noodles were cooked very well. Both those dishes are well worth a visit back and a high recommend. The shao mai was interesting since it was made with the thin dim sum wrappers but contained more American fillings such as cubed ham and egg which was definitely not something I was used to, but an unique aspect to their signature dish. The chive and cabbage dumplings felt more homemade with a thicker and more doughy wrapper which tasted more of a heavier northern Chinese influence. Good space inside and order through a scan on the app, limited customer service interaction, but cool to see the glass window of the chefs preparing everything. read more

Have come here multiple times and the noodle soups here are pretty authentic. Everything is pretty reasonable priced for its portion size. They also have combos for the popular appetizers which is a great option. It is self order over the phone which is convenient. read more

The food here is 100% prefabricated dishes aka Yu Zhi Cai, it tasted absolutely disgusting. The beef cubes in beef noodles are stinky n sour. Service is alright. Not much ambiance. Pretty pricey too. read more
I walked by this restaurant couple times and finally tried it. You order from a QR and the food comes quickly. The service is friendly and they help you with any questions you have on the menu. I highly recommend the Shao Mai. I've never had this style before. It comes with 3. It looks like a flower and its larger than traditional size Shao Mai. The popcorn chicken tasted delicious with lots of fried basil. The numbing spicy chicken had a great flavor profile and not too spicy. The xiao long Bao I would skip. The flavor was good but the skin was just too thick. They don't validate for parking. I parked for little under 2 hours and it was $6. I would park in this building and walk to the other stores when it's a busy night. read more
