I came across them while looking for a local place to rent a Onewheel, the electric skateboards made by Future Motion. They're an authorized dealer; perfect, I'd rather buy local. I went to their website, and turns out they also rent! $70/day if less than 4 days, $60 for 5+ days. I wanted to try out a Onewheel before dropping $1k, so I texted and set a day to come by. They also require a 30min tutorial if you have no experience: perfect, I have zero experience and it'll be helpful to learn from a human. Tyler helped me do a few laps in the parking lot, let me borrow a helmet, and I went home to practice more. By the end of the rental period, I knew I wanted one of my own. After some back and forth, we got my order figured out and submitted. They applied the money I spent on the rental towards the purchase of a new board, I put down a deposit, and the wait began. Something to note: the owner, Jeremy, let me borrow a shop board until mine arrived. Due to some mix-ups with the delivery address, I ended up holding onto the shop board for weeks. I really appreciated having the extra time with the loaner and all the additional practice hours I got in. By the time my board arrived, I'd gotten a total of 18 miles in. For anyone else in my shoes - zero experience, nervous about spending so much, not sure if Onewheel is for you - this is the place to start. Rent first, learn on a loaner, buy when you're ready.

A bolt had gotten loose and fallen out while I was boarding last weekend. They took a look at the joint, grabbed another binding, took out the matching bolt and captured nut, and spent 10 min rebuilding the joint, and checking all the other fasteners in the binding. They double checked the whole thing by comparing it to my matching binding from the other side and handed them back to me. I said to them "awesome, what do I owe you?", and they smiled and just said "you're good". Can't speak highly enough about Jeremy and the guys at Olympus. They'll always be my shop.

Review #949 2026-013…read more My 14 YO daughter made her high school's jr. varsity swim team in her freshman year, & needed to get her swim gear before the end of 01/2025 for the official practice sessions. WHS Warriors partnered with The Swim Guy for swimsuits, swim parkas, goggles, etc. The Swim Guy is located in Lawndale, off Inglewood Ave. & 159th St., conveniently near the 405 Fwy. It's a family-owned, comprehensive swim shop that offers a vast selection of swimsuits & trunks, swim parkas, accessories (i.e. goggles, caps, fins, etc.), & training aids for competitive & recreational swimming, & water polo. Upon entering, the shop is crammed from floor to ceiling of all things water. On the right just behind the entrance, is cubby-shelves stocked full of sale items. Further in, there's racks & racks of swimsuits & trunks. Swim accessories are located along the left wall past the front desk/register. They carry known swimwear brands such as: Arena, Jolyn, Nike, Speedo, etc. While we know H's size (stands 5'4" with medium build) different brands may differ in size so we asked for help to try a couple of suits. The staff member was definitely experienced. He gave her a once over & gave her a size 32 1-piece suit to try on; it fitted perfectly! As a just in case, I asked to see a size 34, which also fit but not snug. He said new swimsuits may feel tight initially but will "stretch" slightly after 1 - 2 swims & conform to the body once the fabric relaxes; the tightness is crucial for performance & drag reduction (maybe that's why competitive swimmers having shaving parties before their swim meets?). We (me & H) both agree that size 32 looked to be/is a better fit than size 34. Not knowing how committed my daughter is, we only bought the required practice & competition swimsuits, WHS logo swim cap & sweatshirt hoodie. I wanted to get her the parka, but it was $150+ (comes with the school's & swimmer's name embroidered) & I don't want to invest in one if she's not swimming her HS career. We put our order in just a couple days before the WHS swim team's deadline; H's order arrived just a couple of days before the first official practice. The Swim Guy's prices are somewhat high since this is a team group sale; they had a guarantee order of practice & competitive swimsuits & trunks, & swim caps in addition to sweatshirt hoodies &/or parkas. The staff are knowledgeable & friendly, particularly the guy that worked with H's sizing... he gave really good advice on the swimsuit fit & care post swims. Most items are final sale, & generally do not accept returns or exchanges, especially with school team orders since they're customized. Make sure to double-check sizing & personalization details before placing your order! And be sure to inspect your order immediately upon arrival for any damages or issues! We didn't have any issues with her swim season order, or this current season's water polo order. Michael Zippi is a surfboard shaper...and he is damn good at what he does. He only makes one type…read moreof surfboard and he's got it down to a science. Zippi shapes fish and his fish are the best fish you can find. Those of you who know about fish, know that they excel in small surf and that they paddle into waves easily. The down side to most fish, however, is that they have a tendency to "spin out" in larger, steeper surf. Their width and thickness compromise their ability to hold a line. This is not true for Zippi's fish. They paddle just as easily and can hold a line in waves that other fish cannot. This is why his boards are referred to as high-performance fish, and man are they fun. Very responsive, yet loose, and they're gorgeous to look at too. Zippi is as accomplished as an air-brusher as he is a shaper. Stunning boards. People are always commenting on mine and asking where I got it. Where do you get one? Well, you can find them in local surf shops, but I would definitely recommend going to Zippi directly. He'll make one to your specifications and custom paint it, all for about the same amount of money, or even less then the shops are charging. If your not sure about the size, width, thickness, etc. he's more than happy to help you with that. He'll even let you demo boards to find what's right for you. He's a really cool guy. Oh yeah, and the turnaround on a board order is only about 2 weeks or so, so you don't have to wait too long to get that board you're jonesing for. If you're looking for a fish, look no further...these ARE the droids you're looking for. He has a customer in me for life, I think.

We exchanged a number of emails, with him sending a handful of questions each time to pinpoint what kind of surfer I was, my skill level, and what my preferences were for my next board.
