This place was the only one open while looking for a lunch spot and walking main st. We walked in and were not greeted and had to ask if the place was open for dinning which it was. We were sat and requested some water. We were not asked if we wanted a drink other than water and no drink menu was provided. Our waitress didn't make much conversation. We got the fish and chips and lobster roll. The lobster roll was not as advertised. It was a cold roll more resembling a lobster salad with celery in it. Not a fan. The fish and chips were good but it seemed like the fries were frozen, not fresh, and under salted. Overall would not return. Menu overpriced for the quality of food and service delivered. read more

I liked it. I mean, you have it to take it what's it's for... a bar. It's not the place if you're looking for a fine dining experience. The beer, is mightly cold with ice around the bar taps. It's fine for lunch or a quick dinner. I know most people don't love sandwhiches like I do, but I mean... I LOVE a good sandwich. I got what they call "The Rachel" it's a rueben but with smoked turkey. That paired with the ice cold Sam Adams, wonderful. The server wasn't very professional or had a very good memory, but the food was good. Like I said, don't go there if you're looking for a fine dining experience. We stayed at.HPR, which contains Dancing Bears, so it was convenient for breakfast during our stay. The omlets are great along with the Lake Placid Croissant sandwich. Do NOT go here for breakfast. We waited 5 minutes before we finally had to ask someone to seat us. That should have been our sign, but we decided to go for it. After that I decided to start timing the service. After being seated, it was 8 minutes before we were greeted by our waitress, who apologized profusely. It was exactly 33 minutes later before I stopped a different waitress to inquire about our food. She went into the kitchen and came right back out with it. We never saw our waitress again until we got the check. Again she apologized profusely for the wait. The omelet was overcooked, the hash browns were bland and the toast wasn't buttered, although they did include some rock hard butter pats for us to spread on our toast. Gee thanks. As a person who waited tables for 18 years, I consider myself to be very sympathetic. This was not one of those situations. While we waited, my husband and I passed the time observing the other servers. One of them brought a couple over to a dirty table, cleared it while they stood there and waited, but never wiped it down. At one point there were 6 dirty tables around us with a line waiting to be seated. I recommended a different place to eat to those who were still waiting as I left. read more

Food was pretty good. Only reason this place is getting two stars. Horrible service, horrible bathroom facilities. Go here if you have 2.5 hours to kill waiting for food. Seated right away, friendly staff for the most part. We got lucky with the one miserable employee. Then they disappeared, 25 minutes later we finally ordered after our waitress finally reappeared. We had a baby with us, who did really well for the first hour of waiting, then it did not go so well. Thank goodness this place was not busy for the other patrons sake. Again, not busy so the lack of speed with any part of the service was mind boggling. Both bathrooms were really nice... but filthy, and lacked toilet paper or paper towels. Food came 45 minutes after we ordered, rushed to eat it so we could leave with a fussy baby, another 20 minutes of waiting for our waitress for the check. Be mindful, they add 18% gratuity and don't tell you. I'm an at least 20% tipper, in this case I wish I could have had the option to leave no tip. Bottom line: skip it. This restaurant is located in the High Peaks Resort. It has a cool decor. We had dinner and breakfast here on two separate days. For dinner, I ordered the shredded beet salad and added salmon. The salad was good- would have been better if salmon wasn't over cooked. My husband ordered the BLT salad and a French onion soup. That salad looked really good. The cocktails are ok and wine menu is eh. It's a good spot for a quick bite. Breakfast was much better than dinner. The salmon Benedict was amazing. My husband ordered the Lumberjack platter and it was plentiful. Prices are good and it's convenient if you are staying at resort. read more

Come to lake placid on a regular basis, and we will never be coming back to Dancing Bear again. We were told a 45-hour wait, which is standard for this time of year. We went to the bar and waited 15 minutes for ONE bartender. She was a dark hair bartender had to be in her forties or fifties. We asked for 2 beers and a jack and coke. She forgot the jack and coke. We politely reminded her after 10 minutes if she had forgotten my jack and coke and she responded "I'm working on it is that okay with you". I was beyond shocked and even laughed. We finished our first round and we're never offered another round. Wait for a table exceeded an hour and 15 minutes and we got up and left. Needless to say the bartender with dark hair will be the reason ourselves and many people around the dancing bear bar will never be back. The whole bar noticed her severely dreadful service. I am a bartender and up until this point in my life I have never seen a bartender lack the common knowledge and basic skills of a bartender. She truly was the most atrocious and egregious bartender my two eyes have ever witnessed. We will never be back again. read more

We ate here with a large group, and should have checked Yelp beforehand. The prices were fair and the menu looked great. Also the decor was nice, beer selection ok and the wait staff were fine. Unfortunately the food was not fine. Despite everyone ordering something different we all felt sick to our stomachs after eating here and it ruined the rest of our night. The food was extremely salty and low quality, which is why I think we all felt so terrible after eating. We were also sitting right beside the kitchen and could see garbage, old food and dirt all over the floor. I would be surprised if this passed a health inspection. Definitely one of the better "hotel restaurants" that I've been to. Nice varied selection on the menu, although not a large one. The waiter seemed overworked even though the room was not packed, but the service was friendly and professional. The chili appetizer was a good portion and well seasoned. The mahi-mahi tacos were very tasty and the fries were cooked quite well. There was somewhat of a wait for the food but it came out hot and fresh. The food is just ok, but the service was so disorganized it was almost comical. Immediately after we were seated (like, we're still taking off our jackets) the server came to get our drink order. I asked if they have a wine list. Server said "oh, sorry, I forgot it!" and left to get drink menu. She returned 5 mins later, still without a wine list, and said "ok, can I get your drinks now?" To which I replied, "Uh, I still don't know what wine you have here! You were going to bring us a drink menu?" Waitress apologized again and RAN to the hostess station so fast, she almost took out another table. And...that was pretty much how the rest of our dinner went. 5 mins after we ordered, my 10 yr olds hot dog and fries were brought out. 45 mins after that, our salads and entrees were brought out-at the same time-by the manager, who wandered table to table asking "did you order this?" 10 mins after that, my teenager still hadn't gotten his food, and we haven't seen our server in almost an hour now, so I had to flag down another one. Server returned, apologized, brought his food (which was now cold) and said "we won't charge you for that, my bad!" 20 mins (and what felt like an eternity) later, she finally brought the check, which had my teen's entree on it, and overcharged us for drinks we never got. In the 10 mins it took for her to fix the bill, another server tried to bring us the check (we already got it, thanks!) and the manager returned with 2 more entrees, doing the "hi, folks, did you order this?" dance to our section. After I paid the bill, server returned our credit card to the table behind us. Luckily, the man at that table stopped her and I was paying attention. Just ridiculous! Her parting words to us were "sorry about tonight, but I have a table upstairs, and my legs hurt from walking back and forth." (Seriously??) This place is clearly a tourist trap. The wait staff all looked frazzled, and the manager (while friendly) didn't seem to know what was going on. Food was good, but overpriced. Next time we're on Main, we'll try another place. read more

Took my lovely bride of 36 years to this place, told the staff it was our anniversary and ordered a beer. As I sat down at a table near the window I steadied myself on the table with my hand. The entire table tipped over, spilling beer all over me, and my wife wrenched her back trying to catch the glass. Staff offered that there are towels in the bathroom. Thanks. Patrons at a nearby table told us it almost happened to them. Management expressed that they've had the tables for 20 years. That makes me feel better? Replace those tables! On our typical "wing night" (Tuesday) our friends canceled, but my boyfriend and I decided to do date night anyway. We decided to go to Dancing Bears as we hadn't been there in a while. We had good service, but since dining in 2014 the quality of the food has gone downhill. From my understanding, there is quite a bit of turnover in the kitchen, so that may explain a lot. The calamari was iffy (Lisa G's is amazing, so not being near the ocean is not an excuse), but my salmon with beet dyed potatoes and asparagus was good. A little too much seasoning on the asparagus, but my beer was able to help with that. Unless I hear better things about their food again I don't plan on going back. read more

We walked along Lake Placid and The Dancing Bears was right on the corner.The patio made it very irresistible. However, we didn't get to sit on the patio. This is a very nice sports bar. I like how they have the bar go semi-circle in the left of the restaurant. Food was a bit under our expectations tho. Friend ordered lobster potpie which tasted very good, but came in a small pot. I had salmon with potatoes and some beans which were simply put together on the plate. I wonder why they didn't try to make a better food presentation. It looked just like what I made out of my kitchen. The waitress recommended a red wine but it doesn't taste good. I kinda wished we had chosen a different restaurant since we only stayed in Lake Place for 2 days. read more

They were able to seat our large group very quickly and were quite accommodating. The cocktails were delicious and all holiday themed, which was nice for the season. I had the white sangria which was delicious. However the food was bland. My salad, the foraging bear (?) was delicious but the others at my table were underwhelmed. This was a great restaurant! My wife and I were visiting the Adirondacks last week on our honeymoon and acted upon a friend's advice to check out Dancing Bears and we enjoyed it. Great french onion soup, like an exceptionally great soup, which was a friendly surprise, considering that Dancing Bears is to Paris what fish is to bicycle. Impressive beer, wine, and cocktail list, too! We each had the herbed/seared salmon with a delicious and creative beet mashed potatoes and lemon/butter asparagus, which were very good, although the salmon benefited from some salt and pepper and would have benefited further from some more herbs or other seasoning - in our highly subjective opinions. But no matter, we will happily return when we are next in the Lake Placid area! read more

While visiting Lake Placid for the week, we decided to try this place because we wanted to sit and eat outdoors (like we had previous nights at other restaurants). We were seated right away, but our waiter was very odd and kind of rude. Seemed very bothered with us for no apparent reason (we were a group of 7 but not at all needy or rowdy). We asked for a drink menu and were told one did not exist. We asked about cocktails and the only one he knew of was some cocktail the bartender near us had created. Very odd. Our food ended up coming before our appetizer, I'm thinking he forgot about it. My sister-in-law had asked for sweet potato fries and accidentally got regular when her meal came. When she pointed this out to the waiter the snapped at her "Yeah I know that." After a small back and forth he said he'd bring the correct fries out, but left my sister-in-law really pissed off, understandably. After a long time they finally brought her the right fries. My food was decent, nothing too exciting but not bad. My gf got the chicken and waffles which contained bland chicken and waffles so hard she literally could not cut through it. Would not recommend it. Overall, food was ok, definitely not worth what we paid, and the service was EXTREMELY questionable. The one good thing I will say is that the manager (I'm assuming that's who it was) came around and offered the ladies at our table a complimentary blanket since it was starting to get chilly on the patio. Now THAT is good service. Would probably not come back here, since everywhere else we had eaten so far put this place to shame. read more

I have been here three times and I am really not sure why we keep coming back! Trip 1: We came here with a group of friends. It took a good 40 minutes for us to get our food. The burger that my friend ordered as "well done" was still mooing. The staff was nowhere to be found. I had an empty drink for 20 minutes. The prices are pretty high too, and it was SO NOISEY. We sat at a table by the window, and it was snowing, so it was a nice way to have dinner, but the place was not up to par. Trip 2: My fiancé and I sat on the bar side I guess? He ordered a burger and emphasized the way he wanted it to be cooked. I ordered a salad which was VERY wilted. The waitress messed up our drink order and was rude to us. She also brought me a warp at first, which I did not order. We ordered an appetizer, that came with our food, which again took forever to get. After we were done eating, plates cleared, we sat there for a good 15 minutes. I finally got up and went to the bar asking for our waitress and our check. She came over and we wanted to pay with credit card. She again was nowhere to be found. Again, I went up to the bar to pay. I left her no tip. Trip 3: This was the only place opened on a Sunday evening when we went up there. It was FREEZING in there and we were nowhere near the windows. It took 15 minutes for a staff member to come over to us after being seated. They were out of several items, wings being one of them. I ordered a salad (again) and my fiancé ordered some hot dog. He was not pleased with the taste, and although my salad was not wilted this time, it did not really do anything for me. I could be wrong, but I felt like the menu changed and there was really nothing on the menu anymore. There was a large group of rowdy teenagers which was annoying to be by, and I almost asked to be moved. Three strikes and your out, dancing bear. read more

We came here because we were awarded free drink tokens as they were a sponsor of a race we ran. Menu layout and entire decor were a pleasure, 5/5. Food was quite good, we had black bean burger, grilled mahi tacos, and Margarita pizza. Huge portion sizes for all but the tacos, which is disappointing because they were delish. Food I would give a 4/5 for that reason. Our server was lacking a bit in timeliness and personality but maybe she didn't like sun drenched days on the rooftop patio. Despite the fancy hotel setting and attractive, open decor and outdoor balcony, this is really a middle-American diner in service and menu. Don't get me wrong, but keep in mind that the breakfast sandwich is not just excellent scrambled eggs with baby spinach but also melted cheese and a side of hash browns -- unless you say "hold 'em'. Hash browns with French toast, too. The avoirdupois of the breakfast clientele was impressive. The "gourmet" restaurant upstairs was not functioning in August. read more

The food was excellent, I had the stout skirt steak that was perfectly medium rare and tasted great. My wife had the Lobster Pot pie that had huge chunks of lobster including whole pieces of meat from the claw. Her only criticism was there was too much dough. Awful service. Was completely ignored by a waitress who clearly despised working at this restaurant. Ran out of water, waitress nowhere to be found, let the staff at the bar know that we needed more and once again, no service. I ended up grabbing a pitcher of water at the bar and on my way back, ran into the hostess. I let her know that I just had to pour our own water and she comes back with "I'm just the hostess." Went here because of a recommendation by the inn we were staying at. The host was pretty rude but we had a great waiter. Ordered 2 French onions soups, wings with the habanero sauce, and grilled cheese. The soup was average. Not really any bread in the bottom and had a salty taste towards the end but it was able to meet expectations. The grilled cheese was fine but you can't exactly screw that up. The sauce on the wings was amazing! By far the best thing we had but the wings themselves were pretty bad. Very dry and were over cooked and crunchy. Not worth the price at all. read more
