Ken took the challenge with my 240Z wiring nightmare. I initally asked for three circuits to be restored to operational. Those repairs were completed promptly with good communication from Ken. What impressed me was Ken's knwledge of all things 240Z, from ignition advance curves to optimum oil viscosity. I gave Ken permission to pursue solutions to niggling issues he found along the way and got back a fully sorted 240Z that runs like new. My experience at Dando's was nothing short of wonderful, and our little truck has never driven so nicely (since we've owned it)... The truck was dropped-off with questions & issues, those elusive-type of issues that other auto shops try to address, but without the expertise that is necessary, elusive they often remain... Dando's solved every issue that I had requested and also added a few courtesies and adjustments that they knew would help the overall drivability (which it has)... The truck is a 1979 Datsun 620, though my daily driver is a 1964 Plymouth Valiant and so, I am tempted to also take that car down to Fremont, as even though I live in San Francisco, it would be worth the slight distance, of that I am certain... First off I have to say I'am so thankful for these people and I'll explain why. I drove my Datsun 280ZX off the lot in 1981, So I've had it about 44 years. Loved it more than my dogs,cats and especially husbands. So fast forward to now and my car was having some major problems that no one could fix. I took it to 2 Nissan dealerships a repair shop in Danville and one place I can't even remember. I'd get it back and they'd assure me it was fixed and it would just die out while I was driving. Real fun on the freeway. So going to Dando's was my cars last shot. Had it towed to Dando's and was expecting nothing. To my unbelievable surprise, Ken has it running better than it has in years. He knows and understands Z's which is almost impossible to find these days. My car couldn't even pass a smog because it kept dying. Yesterday I passed it with no problem. If you have an 8 am appointment that is the time they clear out the garage from the diverse cars in storage, it was an absolute pleasure to see American, Euro, and Japanese cars and hear sounds and smells that have not been common on streets for 50+ years. It is a mini car show and in my short time waiting someone who was just driving by stopped in to see if anything was for sale. There aren't a lot of shops that specialize in older vehicles, I came for an oil change and received good recs for oil viscosity and tire pressure for stiffer suspension, they were also confident about troubleshooting horn problems before I was luckily able to fix it myself. My boss introduced me to Dando's close to 2 years ago, and now I refuse to take my car anywhere else for mechanical work. Even though I don't drive a Nissan/Datsun, they've never had any issues with servicing my Honda S2000. They've replaced my clutch/flywheel, replaced ignition components and got to the bottom of an issue I was having with built up carbon in the intake manifold. My car runs better now than it did when I bought it over 50k miles ago (no joke). Great shop, great work, time and time again. Dando's Automotive is one of the best Automotive Repair Shops I have had the pleasure of doing business with in awhile. Both Benjy and Ken are more than willing to provide honest opinions and fair price quotes. They use to be a Z Specialty Shop, but have since changed into a general repair shop. I brought my RHD Fairlady Z to Dando's around a month or two ago for some diagnosis of the carburetors. Turns out one of my valves was pulled through the head and frozen in place. Benjy, a Z expert, had the head sent out and remachined for a reasonable price. The machine shop did take awhile to get the head returned and over quoted Dando's, but Benjy provided a reasonable compromise by lowering the Carburetor Tuning cost . They also did some clean exhaust work on the car, leaving it running and sounding great. These guys really go an extra mile for your needs, and at the same time, do not mind taking your calls for questions or concerns. The shop always kept me up to date on what was happening on my car. They also were kind enough to keep my car in doors, as I was afraid of people snooping around it and rainy weather conditions. These guys do not get enough credit in the Z community for what they do. They are extremely knowledgeable, and all Z owners themselves! My Z has never run so reliable, I have definitely found my shop for all my future repairs. read more

Took my 350Z to Dandos because I wanted a Nissan Z specialist. Most of the Z cars are 300/280-Z versions, but Ken and staff can work on 350Zs just as easily. Dandos performed the following service for me: Removed factory transmission and installed upgraded new CD009 transmission (to refurbish was priced around $1400, bought brand new at CZP for $1600), Removed factory clutch and dual mass flywheel for JWT clutch and JWT racing flywheel, Remove factory master / slave clutch for upgraded master / slave clutch cylinder, Removed factory brake pads, rotor, and lines, for StopTech pads, StopTech slotted rotors and stainless steel lines, They have equipment to put lowered vehicles on a rack which is a big plus for regularly oil changes. You can have your items drop shipped to the shop, but just give them a heads-up. Great place to take your Nissan Z for service and upgrades, only downside is they are not open on weekends. My Jeep stalled on me a couple of times once at work, then on the middle of a busy intersection... We were about to have it towed to a Jeep dealership but decided to take it to Dando's right up the street from my work... We are SO thankful we brought our Jeep to this shop.. Ken told us to bring it in on Thursday but wouldn't be able to look at it until Monday, which was fine with us! Overdue to post this review. This past year Ken did a great job diagnosing and fixing some bugaboo problems i was having (intermittently) on my 1967 Datsun Roadster. It would run great, then suddenly die with fuel delivery getting interrupted. And previous owners had done weird things with the wiring. Since Dando's figured out what was faulty and did the corrective work, the car has run perfectly. And i finally have working headlights and fuel gauge (not my daily driver, but still nice to not have to rush home when the sun drops..). This after several years of myself and 3 other mechanics never quite getting these things fixed right. On top of being competent, the folks at Dando's are professional and friendly. And at a reasonable cost. It's not easy these days to find good, reliable mechanics to work on pre-computerized cars. And some that are good tend to limit themselves to a genre or age range of cars. But while being Datsun experts, these guys work on older Model As and quite a wide range of cars. Ken (Dando's owner) saved my ass when I first met him in mid 2011. I sincerely mean this and if you read this, you will see why a Greek tragedy was averted into a story of determination and devotion. I bought a 78 Datsun Z car off craigslist in January 2011. since then, I've dumped thousands into it, the car you see the in the icon pic, it looked *exactly* like that when I bought it other than installing the front bumper and putting different rims on the Z. Most of that money was under the hood and various other repairs. I brought the car in on a almost monthly basis simply to monitor the condition and functionality of the car and avoid breaking down. I was given a "passed smog" certificate by this kid I bought the car from. I am 100% sure he did something, put something on, or took it off, and then when I went to smog the car (his certificate expired a few days after I bought it), *I could not* get the car to pass smog. I had it tested and adjustments made, tested again, and again and....I left the car at the mechanics before I went to Dando's because I was so frustrated and pissed off, for weeks. I happen to call the shop and was told that in 3 days it was going to be towed off to central Cali and into some long term storage for 75 per day. So I brought it to Ken and really was at a loss and his mercy. I called the California DMV smog program, which was discontinued because of budget cuts. I was told (quote) "If you can't smog the car, throw it away"......Yea, Ok douchemaster douchey douche. I'll take this beautiful classic car and simply throw it in a dumpster, walk away with the rear hatch and bumper sticking out of it.... Anyways, Ken had the car tested to pass smog and it was only then that he took a sensor off of a parts car, that without, my Z car would never have passed smog. Thanks Ken, Miguel, Aaron. Ken at Dando's is all about customer service. I took my 1982 C30 van to him for A/C repair and a major power steering fluid leak. Both repairs turned out requiring major equipment replacement. He quoted me a fair price and it never went up, even though he put way more hours into it than he anticipated/quoted. The A/C now blows cold and no more power steering leak! My wife's car had an overheat turns out the hoses are bad. Check online for the nearest shop and found this less than a mile from my wife's work. They were very busy, but they gave a time to check it out and called me for an estimate and explained what i can or a replace for. Just to prevent a future error Ken told me from a-z for the radiator parts and labors and what is happening to prevent it from having the same situation. Received a call from Ken and told me the work from the car is done. They told me the day before that it might be done at noon and really they have it done on the time they have told me. Expected to pay about about what he estimated, but turns out its less than the estimated and even i check online charges for parts and labor though the charge on my vehicle are less than what i have check. This place has been a lifesaver for me over the years...not just once, but as of today, twice. Ken Keeler (who runs the shop) is fair and super cool and my favorite mechanic there, Ben "Benjy" Santos is downright awesome. I've been a total car nut all my life and played with cars all my life. I've built several engines and feel that I'm way more capable than most when it comes to cars and repairing them. Even then, sometimes you need a professional, someone super sharp that can troubleshoot a problem that no one else can. Well, for me, that person would be Benjy at Dando's. A couple years ago, I was driving one of my Corvettes (with a fresh engine built by myself) while commuting to Fremont from SF. It was a maiden voyage since it was the first 'real' distance the car had been driven since building the motor. Sadly, the car sputtered and conked out on the freeway in San Carlos so I had to get the car towed to a shop in Burlingame. Once the tow truck unhooked it, she fired right up (huh?) so I decided to continue to Fremont. When I got to Fremont, the car died again and three excited teenagers who loved Corvettes happily helped me push it out of the intersection. Amazing how many people still pull up and patiently wait behind you when you're broken down since they don't realize what your flashing hazard lights stand for. Anyway, after we pushed it to the side, I pulled the hood latch and the cable snapped. I could tell this was not going to be a good day, but it only got worse. The tow truck towed me to a nearby shop (not Dando's) and they proceeded to install an un-needed fuel pump, ignition module, etc, and spent countless days (not hours) trying to diagnose the problem. The car sat outside on their lot deteriorating in the sun for over a month and a half (I'm not kidding) and they kept coming up with silly solutions that I knew weren't the cause. It was really annoying since I felt like I was the one teaching them what and how to check. In the end, they told me that I needed a new engine wiring harness and that it would cost $$$ to source and install. I knew this wasn't the case and knew I needed to find a good mechanic. While that car was rotting there, I took my other Corvette to Dando's for some work and was really impressed with their shop and service. I was so impressed that I decided to have the other car towed from the other shop to Dando's. Well, within one day, Benjy had figured out why the car had been shutting down on it's own. Apparently, one of the fuel injectors was bad (shorting out internally) and was shutting down the ECM (computer). This guy did in one day what the other shop could not do in almost two months. This guy is awesome! After all that time, I was pretty much pulling my hair out. Since that time, this car has been running great...Benjy solved the problem. Fast forward to the present day...my former daily driver Nissan could not be re-registered since it had a check engine light which would not allow it to pass smog. The idle speed was fluctuating constantly too. After doing my own diagnosis and repairs on it at home for months (it only gets driven once a week nowadays anyway), I finally gave up and took it to a shop in San Francisco earlier this week (I'll be kind and not mention the name of this shop either). I wanted to take it to Dando's, but thought Fremont was so far. I should have known better. The shop in SF spent all day on it and basically told me what I already knew. The check engine light is on and the computer when scanned throws a Code 55 which means everything is normal even though something was obviously not right. When the check engine light was cleared, it soon re-appeared afterwards preventing the car from passing smog. On a good note, that shop didn't charge me, but that didn't solve my problem. Today, I drove the car out to Dando's in Fremont and Ken was cool enough to squeeze me in, even though he was one man short today (another mechanic was sick) since he knew that I was pretty much stranded out there. Well, just like last time, Benjy figured it out right away and tracked the problem down to a mis-adjusted TPS (throttle position sensor). To say that I was impressed is an understatement...this guy is amazing! I can honestly say that another dishonest shop could have easily gotten me for a new throttle body, ICS valve, idle switch, distributor, coil, ECM, oxygen sensor or worse. A bad shop is like a bad dentist pulling the wrong tooth...oh, you needed that one pulled too anyway. Ouch. I didn't need it this time, but Ken was nice enough to drop me off and pick me up at BART last time. These guys are honest, fair, and above all...sharp. I see a lot of musclecars and classic Datsun Z's there too. If you have an American or Japanese car...I highly, highly recommend them. If you have a strange problem with your car that no one else can figure out...I bet you Benjy could fix it. :) Five stars! read more

So first off I have driven past this shop almost twice a week for the last 15 years and never thought twice about it. Recently I decided to switch mechanics because my guy is all the way in Sunnyvale and I live in Fremont. So I stopped in with my broken door handle and broken AC. Ken the owner gave me my initial quote and came in under the time and price quoted as it was just the blower motor and not the AC compressor that was broken. He was even able to drop me at my house when I left my car there. A couple weeks later I took my new Nissan NV in to have a new locking system put in. Even though he was busy he took the time to tackle it and he came through in great time and price. He has been in business for a long time and I am happy to say he is deffinately my new mechanic. I had used Dando's for repair on my 1998 Jeep and was very satisfied. Then my duaghter's 2003 BMW broke down on a holiday weekend. I got the car towed to their shop and it was no problem to leave it for them They did a very deep inspection to find the root cause of the problem and the fixes turn out to be less than anticipated. They also found a MAF hose leak which I had known prior about but couldn't isolate the source and they fixed that. My daughter's gas mileage doubled after the repairs. Ken, the owner, has worked on my family car to my toy (800HP Mustang). I have always been pleased with the service and work performed. One of the key strengths of this business is the ability to perform diagnostics and find the root cause of the problem. So many other repair shops just hook the car up to the computer and let the computer do the "thinking". Not at Dando's! Yes, they use the computer to perform diagnostics but they also use their heads while performing the work. Intelligent and competent mechanics. They can find the problem and will always perform the repairs necessary to get you back on the road without draining your bank account. For those with the performance car, let me tell you these guys know what they are doing. I still see plenty of cars in the shop that are track cars, vintage performance cars, or muscle cars. This is a hidden gem in fremont. I took my Acura MDX for front rotor repair and brake pads. Very courteous service and they know what they are talking about. Its not an expensive shop and they are really good at what they do. They could have easily given me a huge bill but were honest about what needed to be done.
