Very nice people. Brought my car here this morning to get my trunk lift gate struts replaced....it was a rainy day and most mechanics are wary of touching a Tesla. It's not a complicated job but if we are not careful the trunk hood might knock out our head, so its not safe to do by myself. So as a senior citizen I was having a tough time getting it done by anyone. But these guys did it in less than five minutes and declined to accept any payment! Obviously I am bringing my other vehicles here from next time onwards...nice people need to get rewarded. read more

Brought my Mazda in to replace the radiator hoses, the serpentine belt, water pump, thermostat housing, and drain and fill transmission fluid. So there was a good amount of work that needed to be done. Needless to say, Michael is the guy to see. His prices are competitive and fair but what made me choose him was his attention to detail. I went around to other shops but none had the attention to detail that made me comfortable enough to want them to do the work except for Michael. When I picked up the car, he showed me all the parts that were replaced. I liked that detail because it reassures me that the work was actually done. Overall, I like how Michael operates his shop and will not hesitate to bring my other vehicles to him. read more

Michael and his team are honest, salt of the earth, good people and more importantly, good mechanics. A true mechanic as my dad calls him. He'll tell you how it is, offer you suggestions and advice regarding work on your car, what will be next, how much you can expect to pay on service, etc... Not to mention, he is a nice and approachable and a Bay Area native. My family and I collectively have brought all of our cars here, from sedans to mini vans American, Japanese and European makes. And we always drive away happy and satisfied customers. Tip - Call to set up an appointment, he does over night drop-off so you don't have to worry about taking time out of your workday if that's helpful, and he will call you personally to let you know what needs fixin' and how much you can expect to shell out $-wise and estimated time of completion. Since coming here for several years now, I have referred family, friends and former co-workers all with a seal of approval and now, you fellow Yelpers check him out! read more

Good honest mechanics are hard to find. I am glad I met Michael and his team, one less thing to worry about. He always recommends OEM parts and guarantees his work. He takes the time to thoroughly access the situation even if the customer tries to diagnosis the problem themselves, like me. Recently I brought the car in for what I was 100% sure was a bad wheel bearing and some routine fluid flushes. Michael took the car out and inspected the bearing. After the fluid flush , he informed me by phone that the wheel bearing is fine saving me a few hundred dollars. Honda dealer quoted me close to 500 dollars for the wheel bearing replacement. I let all my friends know that he is the man to visit if their car needs work or even routine maintenance. read more

I've been going to Michaels shop for over 10 years. Honesty in a mechanic is what you will get with Michael. First car I brought in had a recall and even after the diagnosis, he sent me to the dealership to get the work covered. He could have just done the work and charged me, but instead used his ethics and have won me over as a customer since. Over the years I've brought numerous cars to his shop and he's fixed each one to satisfaction. He has a convinient night drop for those that work through the day. He will call with an estimate before he starts any work. Never had the need to go to anyone else for automotive work! read more

Michael and his team are the only shop I trust working on my cars. My entire family takes our cars to them and we are always satisfied. We have been taking our cars to them since I had my first car back in High School. Very honest, down to earth, and straight up no BS. Its hard to find honest mechanics now a days, but this is definetly the best when it comes to honesty. First time to come here fixing my BMW's AC. Just walking in cause there are lots of auto shops nearby. Very glad I made another good decision in my life. John, the new owner and this shop is wonderful. If you are looking for good technician, don't miss John. He is experienced, nice and professional. Diagnose my car's AC problem very fast and fix in low price, around 200$. He is also a honest guy, will give professional advice and tell you how to fix it. Came to this shop to have my Honda Element over heating issue fixed. They also found a coolant leak and was able to fix that as well. I was referred by a friend to Car Import Specialist several years ago. I've always babied my car by bringing it to the dealer directly. However, dealer car maintenance prices were becoming pricey, service was not satisfactory, and customer service was lacking. I also felt that they were not honest and were always there to find something else wrong to add on to the cost. After taking my car to Car Import Specialist the 1st time, they were top notch in everything that I was looking for in a car shop. I knew this was going to be the place where I was going to take my cars both old and new. Honesty was a big part of my liking towards this shop. Here's an example: I recall a time when I knew my brakes needed replacement. I came into the shop requesting that ALL my brakes be changed. After inspecting my brakes, I received a call from one of their techs. It was mentioned that the front brakes definitely needed replacement, but the rears still had about 30% life. Unless I wanted to spend the extra money now, they would go ahead and replace them all. Their suggestion was to still wait several month and then call them to replace the rears. I knew if this was a dealership, they would had me replace all 4 without any explanation that the rears are not necessary at this time. I would say that I've been taking my cars over 10+ years now even though I have to drive 40 minutes away. Throughout those years, I have referred both friends and relatives. All have had positive experiences and are returning customers. This shop has a great reputation among the local community too. I still remember attending a wedding event and the discussion somehow got into car maintenance with a few couples who were strangers to me. It so happens that those 2 couples both took their cars to Car Import Specialist. LOL. The shop doesn't do any advertising because their shop has been successful on referrals alone. read more

I was attempting to leave to go to work this morning and the car wouldn't turn over. I got a jump and took it in to the shop. The car died again when it got there. Dong, the new owner, made time to check out my car. Dong is friends with the old owner, Michael. He assessed the car and found the alternator was bad and had been sapping the battery. I agreed to have it replaced and then if necessary, the battery would be replaced. One of the mechanics gave me a ride home. He replaced the alternator with an OEM and put in a 5-year battery. I received a detailed write-up of the parts and labor, I paid, and was on my way. Simple. read more

So my power steering went out on my car and needed it fixed right away, but I had no clue where I should take it to get fixed. So my son's daycare provider suggested I go see Michael Chan at Import Car Specialist. He had been going to him for 15 years so he had to be good. He wasn't good, he's GREAT! He also refused to give me any invoices / itemized receipt for the parts / work being done. Saying it would've been more to write it up in the shop meaning I don't know if I'm being charged accordingly or overcharged.

When I was able to get the car up on jack stands with all lugs off, the wheel could not be removed by hand. I needed to pry them off because they were torqued on that tight! Not only that, my lug key finally snapped as I was trying to un-torque the last wheel! I can no longer use my lug locks, had to buy new lugs, and now have to find special tools to remove this last one. I question the skills and experience level of this staff if they aren't following vehicle specs, as if they just set their tool to whatever ungodly torque level and use it universally.

Then over the winter, Chris' team returned because I wanted my garage refinished. I had 70s paneling and broken/crumbling dry wall. Considering how much time I spend in my garage, I can't believe I lived with such an eye sore for so many years. I gave Chris the hard task of wanting smooth walls, and if you know...that's a whole lot of sanding. His team came through and delivered! I love the new paint color on the walls, and no longer despise my garage. Oh, and also want to mention that he also patched up a bunch of holes inside my house (from electrical work I had done) and matched the existing wall texture and paint. I have been coming to Import Car Specialists for what seems like 20 years. And the reason is because I trust them. Implicitly. I have never met such honest and accommodating people in the car repair services in my entire life. And the thing is, I always drive cars that they do not normally repair. Yet they have always welcomed me regardless and done the work fast and efficiently and far less expensive than anywhere else I can think of. And if it has been five years or more since my last visit, they know who I am and treat me like a long-lost family member. I cannot recommend Import Car Specialist enough. If you need quality service at a fair price and options, rather than do it all now, this is the place you need to go. I promise you that you will not be disappointed. read more
