I had been struggling with my 07 Lexus IS 250 for the past 2-3 years. The check engine light along with several other lights turned on. I took it to about 4 different mechanics, two different Lexus dealers, and they all would tell me different things. One dealer first told me it was the Right Wheel Sensor, so I went ahead and replaced it with them, but when they were done the lights were still on. I took it to several other places and they told me it was the transmission, but wouldn't tell me what exactly. I paid for a mechanic to "rebuild" it, but all he wanted was money like most of the other mechanics/dealers did- nothing was done to my vehicle. I finally got frustrated and took matters into my own hands. I decided to just buy a used transmission on Ebay and find a shop to replace my transmission. After researching several places around my area, Mark's Transmission Service was on my top 3 list. I called on a Friday and the person on the phone was really friendly, it was Mark. He asked if I could call back Monday when Abel was in because he was in charge of customer quotes. I stopped by the shop Monday and explained to Abel my situation. He said they would be able to do the job. I was expecting my transmission to arrive later that week, and it was perfect because they weren't able to take my vehicle in till a couple days later. They started working on my car Wednesday and got a call Thursday afternoon that my car was ready. I received it and it drove very smooth. All the lights were finally off! I was really happy with the entire process. What I liked about working with Abel was that he was very honest from the beginning, and he was transparent with the whole situation. The price was just a bit higher than other places, but I thought 'you get what you pay for,' and most of the reviews I had seen on Yelp were good, so I decided to go for it. This is an honest and knowlegable shop. I thought a grinding noise was from the transmission but Abel spent extra time for free to find the actual problem. He determined it was the differential and that the transmission was good, thus saving me thousands. They rebuilt the differential at a reasonable cost performing several upgrades and even worked late to finish. These guys are great! read more

I have taken two of my trucks over to be repaired at marks transmission service in Hayward ca, the first two experiences were good, rebuilt two transmissions, new convert, this place seemed Ok, the third times a charm, I have a 2002 ford f-550 with a deisel engine strong with only 200,000 on it, having trouble with the trucks transmission truck would not move in forward or reverse, so I am thinking ok let me take the truck back to Marks to see if the transmission is under warranty? Had truck towed over to marks, mark the owner looked the the truck over and said we had two problems with the truck the torque converter blew up and pieces of it back into the transmission and this was most Likely do to the engine failure, yes engine failure? Mark has had my truck for over two months trying to figure it all out, bottom line mark told me I needed a new engine. I had to pull my truck away from Marks shop, due to the poor communication, lack of customers service, when ever I would stop by his shop to see what was going on with my truck, I never got strait answers, opinion, this guy got in over his head and tried to recover money for all the lost hours he spent trying to figure out the problem but telling me I needed a new engine, took my truck to a different shop they figured out all it needed was fuel ejectors, not a new engine, note to owner mark the next time you get in over your head let the customer know, so he or she can look elsewhere for their repair needs.... First off it was my first visit there ever. I never knew that this place existed until I was referred there by escutia's. Awesome place. People there are easy to talk to. It's as if they can assess a fix to the problem just by being detailed about it. So I dropped my car off on a friday and as soon as I knew it my car was done monday. In consideration that they're closed on the weekends. But their service is good quality and fast service. They even put in the time to fix a vacuum leak besides just my clutch problem. Mark has an amazing crew of people. They were very careful to talk to me, understand what I wanted and needed, and advise me rather than just trying to make their jobs easier or more profitable. Only problem was the large parking lot was packed full of cars. The locals must know this is the place to go for many types of automobile repairs. These guys totally saved me! A smog was due on my 2004 Lexus IS300, and so I was referred here for a check engine light that another repair shop could not clear. That's the first clue- other shops recommend them for "tough stuff". I called ahead to get a good day to drop it off cuz these guys are busy. Abel & his brother Mark performed diagnostics, brainstormed, asked around, performed more checks, and eventually called me with some options. I could tell 3 things from that call: 1)this is their passion, 2)they want to get it right, and 3) they want you to know your options so you are a satisfied customer. What Impressed me most was their effort to prove to themselves they knew what was wrong, and the patience to explain it to me, so I could decide what to do. In the end they fixed it, and the cost was less than replacing all the parts because of their ingenuity. They didn't take the easy route which saved me money! Transmissions are a highly complex component on every car, so it is important to take it to a shop that specifically repairs them. Well this is the place if you are near Fremont, CA. Mark's was recommended to me a long time ago by an old neighbor and a friend at work, so I took my 2004 Tahoe to have them look at slippage on my 4060E 4 speed automatic transmission. They identified the problem, gave me a quote the next day, and had it back to me within a few days with recommended upgraded components at 20% less than that popular overrated place (beep beep) would have charged me, and with a longer warranty. I have 1000 miles on my rebuilt tranny and so far it runs great. They are nice people too. read more

I'm having to move back east and needed my transmission serviced. Not only did these gentlemen quote me the lowest price but once it was on the lift they replaced some bolts for the plastic undercarriage. While doing this he noticed that 3 of the 4 volts the hold the front axel to the car were loose and tightened them up. We're very open to answering all my questions and concerns. To give me piece of mind since I'm traveling with family. When all was finished I paid less than the quoted price! To bad I'm leaving or I would be a long time customer. They do excellent work. My car needed a transmission rebuild and clutch. In addition I wanted an after market shifter and aluminum drive shaft installed. The parts were installed properly and the car drives perfectly. I like that they include a warranty too. It is clear they take a lot of pride in their work. There were a few minor disappointments. I think the shop took in too much work while my car was there. It took longer than expected and at one point it seemed they would not finish the car before the weekend after having it all week. They did a good job keeping me informed along the way. Aside from missing the target due date I have to say I am pleased with the experience and look forward to doing business with Mark's Transmissions again in the future. I'm tired of wasting money on new cars and it is good to know that we have an expert transmission shop in Fremont to keep our old cars in top shape. read more

*** My Street Rod, a 1934 ford steel Cabriolet with a Corvette 4l60E 5 spd. automatic over drive transmission was acting up & it was in need of some serious service / repair work . I was unsure of who might correct the problem. I discussed the issue with my good friend Doug Caldwell ( a 1934 Ford Street Rod Builder / Specialist ) , He stated that he has had different tranmissions repaired over the years at Marks Transmissions in Fremont , and was always happy with the quality of their work ! I immediately went to their shop, and was greeted by Mark , he did a road test, and then put the car on the rack & ran the computer to diagnose the problem . ..... The bad news was the transmission needed a complete rebuild ! He then gave me a price quote and a completion date of 5 days ( He had to order some parts ) I picked up the car 5 days later , and the Transmission shifts as new . ... I took my truck to Mike's because the engine was having major issues. It took him 3 1/2 months and $2600 to fix 2 burnt valves and a warped head. Since I got it back, I have taken it back twice for a massive oil leak and the engine running hot. He replaced the temperature gauge - yet it still runs hot. The oil leak still hasn't been fixed since he insists that it's not leaking - I need to add 1 qt of oil per week. One of those times, he told me that he thought that the fuel filter may be leaking oil? As far as I know, the fuel filter does not contain any oil. I will never take my truck back to Mike's Transmission again.This is the worst experience I have ever had with a mechanic. read more
