Very good place for someone traditional Mexican breakfast . If you end up going on the one star reviews its all about the customer service which could be a bit better but what has me come back is the taste of the food is literally like a homecook meal. The portions are fairly for what they charge. This place is a bit small and its a hole in the wall kind of place were you can order brunch on the go too. If you prefer taste over customer service this is a bomb spot to eat at it just shows for itself the berria is my go to since its not that fatty like other places around. But their sopes are also good too. This is as real as a review will get trust. Taste over customer service and thats facts. I had no idea what to expect, just that I was hungry and didn't want to battle the big Sunday brunch crowds. Danny Boy's is in a little strip of businesses. It is small and casual. Driving away from downtown Chula, west on E Street, almost to the ocean, I glanced over my left shoulder and noticed a bright red and white banner stretched above a strip mall storefront, proclaiming these words of love and inspiration: "TACOS A VAPOR" Because that form of taco is fairly rare in San Diego and because I was hungry, and in order to reach the place before I got forced onto the freeway, I made a questionable U-turn... in front of Taco Bell, because I like my tacos with a side of irony. I parked and shewed myself inside. Danny Boy's looked like an ordinary SoCal taco shop, except for its wall-covering bill of fare whose range and depth momentarily distracted me from my purpose. The menu offered the usual 'berto's-style dross - carne asada fries and California burritos and the like - but those trivial things were obscured by the place's myriad - and special - alternatives, including: - Birria de Res, served several ways - Chilaquiles, including one version topped with "guajillo stewed shredded beef" - Three kinds of shrimp tacos - Tostadas and tortas and sopes and stews And heading the menu were the promised tacos a vapor, offered with a variety of traditional fillings such as potatoes, cheese, beans and chorizo, and my favorite, chicharrón prensado. The menu listed dozens of items with dozens more variants, and choosing from that promising array might have been difficult had I not been on a mission, but I was, so it wasn't, and I ordered two tacos a vapor - one chicharrón and one bean/chorizo/cheese - plus a jamaica. I only have two notes: I'd have preferred my meal's tortillas a tad softer, but they weren't bad, and I chalked their texture up to the time of day; and the woman who took my order spoke English about as well as I speak Spanish, which is to say, tentatively, but we were aided by her co-worker, Haley, and I got what I wanted, so let's call that a draw. Everything else about my meal and visit was superb. The tacos' fillings were great: the chicharron was tender and meaty and coated with a luscious sauce, and the beans - elsewhere, a flavorless afterthought - were delicious - nicely-cooked and smoky from the chorizo. The ladies, as I mentioned, were helpful, and they seemed happy to be working at the place, which made me feel comfortable and welcome. Danny Boy's is the sort of place that you've never heard of, unless you live nearby, in which case you're probably a regular, and eating there is a good idea that comes with a problem: the over-the-top array of choices they offer will have you asking, "Should I have what I liked last time, or should I try that thing that looks so good in the pictures and that people rave about in their reviews?" While you're figuring that out, order some tacos a vapor. read more

Stopped by for the first time today and was delighted not only with the services at Danny Boy's, but the food was delectable!! Presentation was lovely as well!! We ordered the green chilaquiles breakfast plate, which comes with 2 eggs, sprinkled with pickled red onions, lots of queso fresco, avocado, beans, and a lovely slice of toasted telera bread. I asked for not spicy, they provide the option of spicy or non, which I greatly appreciate. My spouse ordered the huevos rancheros which came with beans and red chilaquiles on the side. His tortillas were tasty, the chilaquiles delicious, and his eggs Cooked to perfection. Highly recommend Danny Boy's... we'll certainly be back to try more from their menu. read more

We went twice. The first time I was blown away by the dish. The machaca was delicious as expected but so were the red chilaquiles on the side. The homemade tortilla was soft and full of lard and flavor from the toasty parts. The fresh onions tossed in a little lime juice brought it all together. The second time I had a chorizo burrito but the filling was not much egg, not much chorizo, lots of bland potatoes and the tortilla was not the same delicious tortilla from before. I had a 5 star breakfast, came back and had a 3 star breakfast. Hence the 4 stars. If you go for breakfast, skip the burritos and order a combo plate or a chilaquiles plate. read more

Passed by this place all the time and did not know that it was here and. It is a Jim to have so close in Chula Vista. We were immediately greeted with a very hospitable and friendly staff. She also cleaned the table again prior to a sitting down. And handed us two menu's. They have quite a variety of options we ordered a California burrito with a modification to add egg as well as the chilaquiles with eggs over easy and I received a flour tortilla on the side. We also ordered 2 coffees, which tasted very fresh and subtle. The chilaquiles had the perfect amount of sauce and flavor. It was more of an enchilada style sauce. The California burrito with egg was extremely delicious and their sauces were very good. We cannot wait to come back and try other options especially the birria. Well done Senoras y Senoritas who made my breakfast the day I visited. I had the huevos a Mexicana with ham and Serrano peppers with a side of red chilaquilas and refried beans, not to mention some warm corn tortillas. The meal was only about $8. I have to say, everything on my plate, including the salsas and hot sauces were delicious. The eggs were well scrambled and seasoned. The scramble came with a very good amount of savory ham, chopped onions, peppers, and tomatoes. The red chilaquiles were fantastic! I would of ordered a plate full of them with a couple of fried eggs on top if I knew they were so good. The tortillas were crisp and infused with a terrific slightly but flavorful robust red sauce. The Cotija cheese, cream, and pickled red onions that sat on top of them were great. Great eats indeed. The refried beans were very well made, creamy, and seasoned just right. I used the warm corn tortillas to not only eat the beans with, but to make breakfast tacos with the scramble.
