When we first saw his portfolio, we were like "Yes this is the photographer that we would want." They are both extremely personable and so easy to work with. We met with him initially to see if he was a good fit for us - vibes, editing, price, what we get from his packages, etc. Everything had checked the boxes. Leading up to the wedding day, we had a couple of more meetings with him to confirm everything. We asked for recommendations for photo spots post wedding and Danny provided a few locations that fit into our itinerary. On the day of, Danny and Julia were prompt. They worked really well with us, our wedding party and all of our guests. There were times when I would be like, "Ok this is an interesting pose or idea, but I'm going to trust the process." I came across Danny's photos while we were doing research on wedding venue and we fell in love. He was the first vendor we reserved even before we secured the venue. And I am so happy with the decision. He photographed our SF city hall civil ceremony earlier this year and he is amazing! We had a couple phone calls in advance which we talked about the logistics. He is very patient and knowledgable about different locations in SF. He knows city hall really well and is very instructive on how we should pose. We had a lot of fun during the photoshoot! When we booked Danny in December 2019, it was because we absolutely loved his work. However, we recently realized how duplicitous he is. When we initially expressed interest in his services, he was very responsive, usually responding in 1-3 days. After securing Danny for his services, and particularly after notifying him of having to cancel our December 2020 wedding, he became evasive, taking weeks and even months to respond. In fact, he has become so unresponsive that he has chosen to ignore my last few emails, which specifically address his contract. As our other vendors agreed, Covid-19 was an unforeseeable event that clearly qualifies as an "Act of God" or a "Force Majeure." Danny's contract specifically references these as valid reasons for refund. As the local government actions were becoming unpredictable in response to Covid-19, we informed Danny in June 2020 that there was a possibility that the pandemic may not allow us to hold our wedding as planned. By August 2020, with the ongoing public gathering restrictions issued by the Public Health Department, we had to make the difficult decision to postpone indefinitely since it would be impossible to proceed with our wedding as scheduled. Nevertheless, Danny argues that this cancellation is purely voluntary. In an attempt to compromise, we initially considered rescheduling our wedding. Despite asking for Danny's 2021 availability, he never provided this requested information. Regardless, it is unclear when the pandemic will end, making it unclear when it will be safe to plan and have a wedding. For this reason, we agreed to Danny's second option, to open up our original wedding date to others. This seemed reasonable since neither Danny nor we would lose any money. Five months later, he informs us that this was actually impossible since he did not open up our original date to other couples. He had given us the option, but he never actually attempted to fill the date. We have tried multiple times to resolve the issue of our deposit with Danny, but he has been very difficult with us. All of our vendors were very understanding and returned our deposits, all except for Danny. He is deceiving and refuses to follow his own contract. We advise others to stay away from him. read more

We had very last min city hall wedding ceremony. The preparation was very tight in schulde, but still lucky to book Danny's engagement package photo session for our big day. He was very thorough and organized a zoom meeting walking us thru the whole photo shooting whole progress beforehand and some tips for gettin things ready. That eased my tension for wedding preparation a lot. He also made a good recommendation of make up artists, my look turn out to be really nature and pretty. On the day of shooting, he arrived 15 min earlier before booking time, and very patient and accommodate all the "additional" photo request from our guests and change of locations. He's very professional to teach us how to post gestures and become more photogenic. Also, helped directing the set up of our video tapping position. read more

Danny's pictures are breathtaking! When we first started looking at different photographers online, his pictures blew us away and we knew he was the one for us. He does book up quickly so he was actually the first vendor we secured right after our venue. We booked him for our engagement photos and for our wedding taking place in the October 2018. He was easy to work with and very responsive via email and text. As with most engaged couples, it was our first time and we needed a lot of guidance and ideas for all aspects of the wedding. He provided great ideas and resources for outfits for the photos, poses, props, locations, and also gave his recommendations for other vendors at various price points we could work with within our budget. Danny and his colleague Jimmy were so sweet and patient during our engagement shoot and captured all of the shots we wanted and more. He got the engagement pictures to us quickly and we were able to get our Save the Dates out promptly. For our wedding, Danny and his colleague Jeffrey showed up promptly and immediately got to work. We did the traditional Chinese door games in the morning and had tons of people just in and out of the house with crazy antics going on. But he knew exactly where to be and when to get all of the important shots, without getting in the way of anyone or interrupting any important moments. The best part is he needed no direction and never added to the stress of the day by asking me questions or needing anything from me. He and Jeffrey worked seamlessly with the wedding party and it also helped that he could speak Chinese to my parents and other relatives. Our wedding photos are gorgeous and everyone we know raves about them. The post editing he does really makes the photos and colors pop. I wanted glamorous, high style shots for our wedding and he delivered! His style is definitely distinctive but my husband and I love the way the photos turned out. Danny is amazing! Word on the street is that he's currently the most famous photographer amongst the asian community in the bay area. This does not mean he's only great at photographing Asians. He's also taken very gorgeous pictures of diverse couples! Despite his fame, Danny is very humble and accommodating to everyone. I picked him because I've been following his photography for years and I love his work, but what surprised us was how much we enjoyed working with him. His work comes out looking more like masterpieces. If you want high-fashion photos instead of everyday photos, you're in luck. If your style is more "capture me in my natural habitat," I would recommend someone else - although you could probably speak with Danny and I'm sure he can figure something out. There are lot of photographers out there who bought an expensive camera, put up a quick website, took some high resolution sample photos and call themselves a wedding photographer. Danny and his wife are the best! My wife first found Danny though seeing his work in person and upon seeing it myself, I completely agreed; this was the style we were looking for to capture our special moment. During these years that we've worked with Danny (our wedding had to be postponed due to the pandemic), Danny was extremely professional and went above and beyond to our expectations. Whenever we had a question, he would always answer promptly. It wasn't just prior to us choosing him, but more importantly after the fact we had signed the contract. Danny is super understanding of the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the world to this day. We were extremely grateful that we were able to move our wedding to a new date with no additional cost. His photos look like something out of a movie or a magazine. With Danny, you are not just paying for his photography, but also for his editing. He truly is an artist. I want to clear something up...I believe my photos are the ones Gracie L. is referring to because she wrote the review the day he posted my pictures on Facebook. As a customer, she has the right to be concerned and ask about the privacy issues. To be honest, Danny never asked me permission to post the photos online, however, I never asked him not to post the photos publicly beforehand. Maybe he thought I was comfortable with it because I was fine taking those photos on the day of the wedding? At first, I was hesitant to even "like" the photos on Facebook knowing that it will show up on my friends' wall. I am usually a pretty reserved and self-conscious person, but I just thought to myself, "f*ck it!" This is art. In return, I received a lot of great feedback from family & friends that they thought these risqué photos were sexy, tasteful and elegant. I will say that there were some small details and close-up photos that I felt were missing/ not captured. Also, he moved the location of family & friends photos on the fly even though everyone was already gathered in the original location. This made it confusing to everyone so many family members ended up missing from the pictures and photos with friends were not taken. My advice is to make up a list of everything you want photographed or at least make it known. At the end of they day, I am happy how everything came out. Upon inquiring and meeting them I found they were very professional and passionate about their work. They made me feel like a model from a magazine and very easy to work with. Our vintage engagement session even appeared in a Chinese bridal magazine! We received ALL of our photos on a disc - edited and unedited. This was great when making our own photo albums. Everything came in a timely manner and they were very responsive to emails and questions. I had Danny and Julia shoot my June 1st 2014 wedding in Berkeley, CA. Their works are simply breathtaking. I have been following Danny's blog for several years - even before I met my husband. I enjoyed browsing his blog back and forth for fun. Seems to me what makes Danny stands out from other wedding photographers is his unique compositions, artistic angles, and striking finishes. So when it finally came to my own wedding, Danny was absolutely my only option. It was a hot day in Berkeley and my ceremony venue was in a rose garden up in the mountain. Danny and Julia climbed up and down the hills and shot all the scenes that I requested. They made the guests laugh out loud when they took our group photos. They arrived earlier and left later than indicated in the contract. They were definitely professional and pleasant to work with. Even though I was so familiar with Danny and Julia's works, I was nervous waiting for my photos after the wedding. It was like an elementary school girl waiting for her test scores. Because I was the bride, you know. Needless to say, their works are beyond AMAZING. I was emotional when I finally saw the copies. Even my most picky and proud girlfriend had to admit that my wedding photos are more beautiful than hers -- she once said her wedding photos were insurmountable... LOL! As I mentioned, our ceremony venue was in a rose garden. Danny and Julia captured the lush, colorful "secret garden" moments for us. Our reception venue was in a historical, gothic style building. They then created the classic and timeless pieces for us. Danny and Julia must have different vision than most others - that's how I explain to myself why they are able to interpret the people and the surroundings in such a harmonious manner. My review may already look verbose, but I'd like to stress one thing that I appreciate about Danny and Julia: the memorable and professional boudoir session. Overall I am a fan of boudoir photography; they are sexy. Danny and Julia's boudoir photos are not only sexy, but also sensual and classy. So I told Danny and Julia I wanted a boudoir session and asked Julia to prepare a veil for my poses. However, on my wedding day, I changed my mind on the veil. I just wanted to use my wedding gown. On top of that, I forgot to prepare nubra as Julia instructed... But Julia just smiled, opened her bag, and took out a pair of sticker nubra for me. I was so grateful! During the boudoir session, Julia taught me to artistically cover my body and helped me to pose; whereas Danny stepped out the room whenever I adjusted poses. Together, they created the natural and beautiful boudoir photos for me. My husband absolutely loves them. I was so proud of my body and my decision! Since, for me, these photos are private, I asked Danny and Julia to not show them on their blog. They totally understood my concern and had no problem doing so. We loved working with Danny and his team. Danny did our engagement photos as well as our wedding photos. He's so professional, but also super friendly and easy to get along with. We picked him originally because his editing style is super unique and beautiful, but we found that his personality is another bonus we discovered. The reason why you should definitely pick Danny for your photos is: 1. It's actually really important to have a photographer who knows how to set you up for good shots that are also candid looking. Danny gives really great direction and is able to guide the whole bridal party into cute poses that look great in the photos. 2. Danny is also really fun, he does this thing where he makes hilarious comments and is just constantly laughing/chuckling, which makes everyone in the photos laugh as well. This results in super candid photos that looks great. 3. Danny works really hard for you! Our first dance was really animated and some of our friends were taking video and you could see Danny and his second shooter sprinting across the room to try to get the best shots. 4. Danny's editing skills are super unique. When we were looking at photos from other photographers, they all started to blur together and the styles all felt really similar. Danny's photos definitely stand out. He's really great at taking a whole bunch of styles of photos (zoomed in, zoomed out, dramatic, sweet, etc.) and then his editing style is so clean, clear, and beautiful. Danny did our wedding 3-28-09 and if there's one thing people are talking about the most ( other than how good I looked of course :-P ) ..is our pictures! He captured moments that i didn't even know were going on. He was so excited and so easy to work with it was amazing! Really fantastic work! Definitely recommend him. My wife and I had 1 day pre-wedding portraits with Danny. Firstly, his technique is state-of-the-art. Although we've been to those places a lot of time, we would never think about the view he picked, which looks gorgeous in photos. Secondly, he is pretty patient. He taught us how to pose the gestures and all those tricks to make us look better in the photos, and he repeat those again and again when we forgot. Thirdly, he is good at arranging the schedule. Danny and Julia are really great! We had our pre-wedding portrait with the nice couple. They are very professional and very welcoming. Danny showed us a lot of amazing photos for references so that we can pick our favorite places. We also got a lot of helpful advice on dressing and other stuff. On the actual shooting day, they arrived much early then scheduled to get prepared. Our session was in Napa and SF, so we were always on tight schedule that day. Danny and Julia were so patient and thoughtful, they carefully scheduled the time and made it possible for us to catch the sunset in SF. My wife and I are very lucky to have Danny to take our wedding day photos. Danny was highly recommended by a friend of mine who has done modeling work with him. We had a fairly tight schedule, 3 weeks to our wedding. Danny promptly met us to go over some of photo shooting details. He made some great recommendation to us on the clothes selection. We found his guidance very useful. We met again one more time before the wedding to go over our clothes. The pre-wedding efforts Danny put in paid off. Even though we scheduled for a 10:30 AM photo session, Danny and his assistant arrived early to scout the area and set equipments up. I felt my wife and I have established a very comfortable working relationship with Danny pre-wedding, which allowed us to feel less awkward in front of the cameras. After all, we are not professional models. Neither my wife nor I had any previous experience with professional photo shooting. Danny had some creative ideas during shooting, some of which are pretty impromptu. Not only the photos are artistic, but also the spirit of the happy marriage was captured by Danny as well. Danny did not stop at the standard wedding locations. He recommended a few places, which turn out to be breathtaking. We took a little break after the wedding and went to several locations in S.F for more photo shoots. Danny was very knowledgeable around the city. He recommended the place to meet, change clothes and even park cars. As you know city driving can be hectic especially during a workday rush hour, I feel Danny was able to make my life easy and allow me to concentrate on the photography. From indoor to outdoor, from beach to city, Danny worked his magic. At the end of day, I just want to say I feel very fortunate that Danny will be able to capture this special moment for me and my wife.
