I recently had a remarkably satisfying automobile repair service experience with Dan's Auto Center. After a year of costly repairs for issues that other shops believed caused the check engine light to come on intermittently sometimes and other times to stay on, the crew at Dan's finally found the root cause of the issues and addressed them at a price that was well worth it to me. The price was also very reasonable considering their time, effort and concern. Ethan, who owns the shop with his wife, was absolutely committed to solving the problem after I explained that since March of 2012, the car had been serviced on at least 6 occasions by to two different and well known Tigard repair shops (one specializing in Volvos). On all those occasions staff worked on issues that can cause the check engine light to come on. At each of multiple visits to the first shop and then to the second, shop staff diagnosed a problem, replaced parts, charged a lot; and, after each repair, the check engine light would come on again either right away or eventually. I would estimate that the check engine light stayed OFF continuously for less than 4 months out of the last 12. I ended up taking the car to Dan's when it died on the freeway off ramp last month after I had ignored the bright warning light for several weeks: the AAA tow guy told me that he had checked and found Ethan was at Dan's even though it was closed like most shops on that Saturday morning. Dan's had a loaner for me also. The rest of the story is one of encouragement on the part of everyone @Dan's that I should return if the light came on again. They needed to keep the car for an extended period to drive and run diagnostics on it repeatedly after making any repairs or adjustments. It took that initial trip and 3 subsequent trips back to Dan's but they figured out the problems and the light now stays off and I am confident that it will continue to stay off. Also, the car runs better than it has in the last 3 years or so, despite all the other work I paid other shops to do. I highly recommend Dan's Auto Center. I recently recommended Dan's Auto Center to a friend, who soon after told me they'd seen a poor review. I checked and sure enough, someone had posted questioning the company's integrity. I'm not a frequent poster, but I felt compelled in this case. I don't know that person's experience, but I'll tell you mine. I have two vehicles, a truck and a small daily driver. I know a fair bit about car repair (non-professional) and in the past used to do much of my own repair, though today that's rare. I've taken both of my vehicles to Dan's Auto Center for some time. I am reasonably skeptical about committing to a mechanic. I trust Dan's. They've given me advice on things I might do and things I should do, and in most cases their assessment has matched my own. I have not felt they have tried to upsell me unnecessarily and have always judged their advice based on my own usage of the vehicles. I appreciate their no-nonsense judgments. They've also gone above and beyond on several occasions to discover the root of an issue, which is not common. Several (all?) of their staff have worked on my vehicles and I have been happy with them all. When I call needing time, they set me up and stick to the schedule, giving me a loaner when I need it. They're well run; they're an outfit I have and will continue to recommend. read more

I have taken cars to Dan's since Dan himself started the business. In the beginning they worked on Subarus only, and over time, I had a few cars serviced there, repairs done there, and I have bought used cars from Dan's. Eventually, I branched out and bought a Honda, and then a Toyota, and no matter the make or model, I have never, ever, had a bad experience at Dan's. It is easy to get an appointment. When I drive up they know who I am, they are on time to work on the car, and they are done on time. There is usually a loaner made available if the job is going to take more than a couple of hours. They call if anything unexpected comes up. They go over the car for road worthiness even if all I take it in for is an oil change. They are always willing to answer questions. Everyone in the office is knowledgeable about the cars and whatever problem we are discussing. I've never compared them with any other shop because their charges didn't seem too high, and I trust them. That counts for a lot. I've moved twice since the early days, both times farther away. I now live a good 40-50 minutes away, but I still go to Dan's, even for an oil change. It is so worth it. read more

After receiving what I thought was a high (but still reasonable) quote for replacing the radiator in my car from another shop, I called Dan's to get their quote, and was astonished by how much cheaper ($500) their quote was from the other shop. I had my vehicle towed their after speaking with Thomas, and could not have been happier with the professionalism of everyone at Dan's Auto. They called me daily with updates on the status of the repair, and they got the work done (a full radiator replacement) in only 3 days, 2 days quicker than their estimate. Throughout the process, they never pushed any additional, unnecessary repairs on me, and they did an outstanding job - my car is running better than ever after their work. On top of that, they left my car in CLEANER condition inside and out than I had brought it in. I can't thank Thomas and everyone at Dan's enough. A couple friends told me about Dans, so when it came time for servicing I decided to take my Subaru to their shop and check it out, Jennifer gave me a very warm greeting and had my loaner car waiting for me right up outside the front entrance. I knew the vehicle was in need of maintenance so I asked them to inspect it thoroughly. Got a call around mid-day and yes, it was due for a major servicing and the front brakes were also in need of replacement. I had been hearing noises from the front so I was not surprised. My trusty Subaru was done the same day, and they also washed the car and gave me some free wiper blades which was a nice touch. I then gave them a discount coupon which was given to me by my friend, I asked if I could use it and jennifer cheerfully applied the $25 discount to my repair bill, no questions asked. If I could give Dan's 100 stars, I would! I've been taking my car there for years and even though I've moved farther away, I won't go anywhere else for automotive care. Everyone over there is friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and nice. They all seem to genuinely care about the cars they service, but also about the customers who bring them in. I've had a couple of bigger problems with my car over the years, and every time I go to Dan's, I feel like I'm getting the straight scoop. I never feel talked down to. They explain things and help prioritize service that really needs to get done NOW as opposed to things that can wait a while, and I appreciate that so much. They want to do right for their customers. This really is a good shop. I've used them for all my cars since returning to Oregon 5 years ago and have always been happy with their work and what they've charged. But, the best indicator of the honesty of any auto repair shop is when they make a mistake. In my case, I was traveling to Las Vegas a week after they changed my timing belt and lost all of my coolant. Apparently they had incorrectly reattached a radiator hose. This was easily fixed by a Toyota dealership in Las Vegas, but it cost over $500. When I told Dan's Auto what had happened they voluntarily said they would reimburse me. And, even though some of the dealership's charges may have been excessive just because I was a traveler needing an emergency repair, Dan's reimbursed me for everything. How many other repair shops would do that? read more

I have a 2006 Honda Ridgeline. Every time I have had an issue, minus ONCE, the Dan's crew have fixed her right up. (And the one time they couldn't they sent me to a Honda dealer who,even with their Honda specific testing equipment had to ask me "Did this truck get hit by lightning?" The electrical system completely freaked out and it took them, the dealer, 2 weeks to figure out the issue..) They do good work, they don't overcharge, and they don't tack on useless crap. They recommend what to fix now, and what to wait on. My spouse has a Volvo, we couldn't figure out how to change the headlight. They don't do Volvo, but they changed the bulb for us, for the cost of the bulb. So, they have earned my trust! read more

We have taken our cars to Dan's for over 10 years. We keep returning because the shop does good work and their prices are fair. They don't try to talk you into work you may not need. Instead, they listen and advise you so you can make an intelligent decision. And they stand by their work, making it right if they don'e quite get it the first time (which is rare). They will work with you if you have a budget and have to prioritize the work you can get done right now. I brought my ford ranger into dan's. I was nervous because I've never had good experience with auto shops but after a speedy service and the staff making me feel important and welcome I would never take any vehicle else where. I was worried I wouldn't be able to make it to work and they even offered me one of their many loaner cars. My tuck has never ran as good after they fixed my transmission and gave my truck a full fluids service and more. My tuck even came out washed and clean. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! read more

have been a very long time Dan's Auto Center customer, during this last visit I brought in my Subaru Legacy for a clutch that was recommended by the dealer, after doing a thorough free checkout on my car the technicians found the only problem was with the clutch slave cylinder and master cylinder. I have been going to Dan's since my Subaru was new, its a 2010 Outback. the service is very quick and efficient, getting my vehcle back the same day is usually not any problem, except for the occasional gaff with parts, wrong one, or not available till next day. Rather than rushing the repair Jennifer seems more than happy to ensure that the vehicle is fixed properly and double checked. I have found their service to be above and beyond. When a repair I needed for DEQ inspection didn't work to pass the test, they made an additional repair and took it back for the inspection at their cost, and only asked me to reimburse the cost of the registration. This quality of service is not something I would have expected, but they did it without asking. They don't consider service an inconvenience, and I will be using them again in the future. read more

Have been taking our 2003 Honda Accord here since it was virtually new. They do a good job and I have found them to be honest and fair. The Honda Accord now has over 120,000 miles on it and has been problem free. I think that is both a testament to the quality of their work as well as the quality of the Honda. They are old fashioned in that they want to keep and retain their customers and will do what it takes to do that. read more

The work was completed within our agreed timeline, and I was given a free loaner car to drive while my car was getting fixed. We took our 92 Lexus SC300 to this shop for repairs. They quickly identified a problem with the starter, sourced a replacement, and provided us a loaner vehicle while they worked on the car.
