The new owners have carried on the tradition of good old fashion, New England seafood meals. I'm a big fan of whole belly clams and they have the best they're scallops were just delicious and now I find out that they have 2 1/2 pound lobsters.!!! The service was excellent. And I like that old fish house ambience not real fancy but you can go in...in a bathing suit a pair of shorts or an evening dress.... doesn't make a difference they will treat you well there. read more

Everything was wonderful here! We did a "cook your catch" option and enjoyed our freshly caught scallops served blackened. They were seasoned and cooked perfectly. We opted for a side of hush puppies, side salads, and key lime pie for dessert. Our server, Diana, was an absolute delight who just radiated good vibes and was on top of everything. Also of note, staff were all wearing masks, which is appreciated as a safety measure considering current circumstances. Definitely recommend making a visit here. This restaurant is a diamond in the rough so to speak. There is an RV park behind it, so don't drive by accidentally! We went in and the guy greeted us and told us to pick a place to sit. We seated to the left and back and it was way too loud in that area as there's no sound absorption. I have a problem with loud noises and so our server, Tracy, asked me if I'd like to move, I said yes and she let me pick a place up front to the right in a booth which was much quieter plus there's a lovely fish tank to peer into. The menu questions we had were answered and we settled on clam chowder, clam bellies basket and a cold lobster roll with fries. Everything came out quickly and so fresh with a smile. The lobster roll was spot on for what I've had up north on the east coast. Fries were hot, hush puppies were delicious, clam chowder was to die for! Was in town visiting a friend and spotted this place. We stopped by for lunch and was so happy we did. She had never been here and now it's the go to spot for taking friends. Having grown up in the Boston area, fried clams is what I miss the most, and Dan's Clam Stand did not disappoint. The atmosphere was fun snd friendly and it was a beautiful sun-filled day In January in Florida so we chose a table out on the front porch. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and the service was fast. We ordered fried scallops, fried clams, and the colossal fried shrimp. Except for the absence of Boston Habah it was absolute perfection. The coating on the fish was light with just the right crispiness and each of the seafood choices was delicious. Of course they were whole belly clams and just the right sweet medium size. The sides were generous and delicious. I highly recommend a stop in To Dan's Clam Stand if you ever find yourself in Crystal River. There were plenty of other choices for those in your group that don't eat fish like salads, burgers and chicken. I'd recommend this spot to everyone, but especially if you're a Northerner with a hankering for a taste of home Dan's Clam Stand is a home run! read more

We went to Dan's on September 22, 2023 at dinner time. I ordered blackened mahi mahi for $22.87. It was not worth the price. The fish was about the size of a pack of cigarettes and was severely overcooked. My wife ordered a 1 pound lobster roll marked "market price" on the menu. The lobster roll ended up costing $36.39. We'll never make that mistake again. Service could have been better if they had enough staff to handle the dinner crowd. read more

Met two diners coming out as we were entering and they raved about the food, especially the lady from Maine! walked in to very clean establishment with a level of cleanliness that you usually do not see during a lunch crowd. Our server, CasSande was smiling and answered our questions about menu items, which was quite exstenive, as I had no idea what a "full belly" was. We both chose shrimp, one plate breaded, the other grilled. Both were excellent! Cassandra was attentive and checked back frequentl, always with a smile. Aside from the rude waitresses, the food here is pretty good depending on what you order. I ordered the clams on the half shell with cocktail and horseradish and beer to wash it down. It was amazing. The clams were sweet and very fresh. The fried fresh clams had a little too much batter. The fried grouper had too much batter but was still good. I've also tried the fried shrimp, scallops, and crabcakes. Don't order the crabcakes. It's mushy and has too much filler. The highlight was when the chef came out and did tons of magic tricks for us. Do not come here if you do not like fried foods.I do give this place 5 star rating for the dishes that I like - colossal shrimps, fried. The best shrimp you can find even compared to the high end restaurants. The same goes for the fried haddock. So is the hamburger. The reason I give the 3 star rating is because the restaurant's staff does not wear mask. Withe the virus still in its active stage, I do not feel safe. Their menu is more diverse than I expected based on their name; it is not just a little stand. We had the blackened grouper sandwich basket which was the best of the two meals we ate. It was on very toasty buttered bun with the grouper blackened and cooked just the right. You get two sides so we had hush puppies, sweet and crispy so oh so good, and mayo based cole slaw which was a bit too soupy for us. We also got the mahi mahi fingers which are fried, as they remind you. You get five decent sized fingers in your basket and the two other sides we tried were the crinkly French fries and crispy green beans (cooked in chicken stock).
