I wanted to love this place given all the rave reviews. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy their pizza. I arrived on time to pick it up. But, they were busy and no one even acknowleged me for about 20 minutes. And, they put the large pizza in a bag. So, it was difficult to get home and was not even warm when I opened the bag. Also, there was something offputting in the flavor. I think they use fennel in the sauce or sausage which was overpowering. Since I could barely find the sausage bits (way too small), I am not sure what was going on there. I also ordered garlic as one of my five toppings. They forgot that ingredient altogether. I think that I hit them on a bad day. But, with ten ppl in the back making pizza, I have no idea why the cashier kept dissappearing even though six or seven of us were standing there waiting to pay & pickup. I only live 6 minutes away. So, if the pizza is totally cold upon arrival, something went wrong or needs fixing. If I ever tried them again, I would definitely ask for a box. It's not fun paying $30 for cold pizza. read more

Ordered pizza on a Friday night for take out. They do not have an online ordering option and their prices are fairly high ($48 for two 16" pizzas), but the food was good. They must have been really busy because the wait was 75 min for an order placed at 8 pm. Their sausage had decent flavor, not the best, but definitely not the worst. Not a ton of grease on the pizza. There is a reason this place has been around almost 40 years- it is great pizza. The crust, sauce and ingredients are appealing to a wide variety of pizza lovers. Customer service is top notch , just to add to their great food. I will be ordering here frequently! Dan's pizza is owned by the brother of the owner of Papa's Pizza and the pizzas are pretty similar. My husband and I love the thin crust. We tried the double decker pizza recently and were not really impressed. We'll stick to the thin crust - so good that there are never any leftovers! They ain't even playing around with that Italian beef sandwich. Holy sh*t! Huge and daaaaamn good. Dare I say, I think I like it better than Portillo's. This thing is stuffed full of beef and plenty of juice plus ,topped with cheese, this is thing over the top. How anyone can go to Mojos down the way for a cheesesteak when they are on fire with this Italian beef is beyond me. I also love their sauce, I always order it with "extra sauce", because that's what I do. OMG- haven't had their pizza in years but so-o-o good!! We usually just get their beef and cheeses which are excellent but the pizza just hit the spot last night! My Hubby's been going to Dans for 25+ years and now I see why!! It's not close by but might be worth the drive! Have been going here for the last few years - not your stereotypical "deep dish" Chicago pizza place. In fact, we always get Dan's thin crust, usually the supreme along with a mushroom only. A few great things about Dan's pizza: 1. The crust is cracker crisp and thin - different than the flabby NY style thin crust. 2. The sauce is just about perfect, slightly sweet and with the right amount of spice. 3. Toppings are ALWAYS fresh (no canned mushrooms!) 4. Dan wraps the pizza's in a bag instead of a box. I can see Dan's Pizza from my window and have lived here since 1999, so I have finally decided to getting around to reviewing it here... My favorite thing at Dan's is the cheesy garlic bread. It is the perfect mix of all the ingredients, AND it is cooked and served just like it should be. The bread is warm and firm, not soft or hard. The cheese is melted to chewy deliciousness. The garlic is subtle, not overpowering nor non-existent. YUMMY! The hot dogs, Polish sausage, and fries are also all very good. They can be be bought separately or together. I usually get one hot dog with fries plus one extra hot dog. Hot peppers are available when requested. I have never tried the beef, bar-b-q beef, or Italian sausage, but that is only due to my preferences for the items already mentioned. Of course, the pizza is the main reason that people order from Dan's... The toppings are generous. The crust is thin or "double-decker". I have never had a Dan's pizza that was served at the wrong temperature. (Of course, I live nearby.) The sauce tastes more like tomato paste than some of the other local pizzerias in the Downers Grove area. If you like your sauce to have less spice then you will not go wrong. The prices are very reasonable, especially for the portion/amount received. Dan's Pizza is located just east of the I-335 and Maple Avenue interchange, so it has quick access to all nearby suburbs. Used to be good with great service. Tonight I call to order a simple pizza, have done many times before. They repeat or I should say the guy repeats my order and tells me 20 min. I say the guy because the pleasant girl I saw when went to pick it up was very nice. I show up after long day of work to pick up the pizza and there is no order no pizza and the two knuckleheads in kitchen have now idea of the order. I spoke to a guy so it was them not the girl. Showed her I called she looked up that I called. No pizza no order. That's all it takes in these times. Lost my business. I recommend Papa's in Woodbridge on Janes. And they are open starting at 11. Per recommendation from a New Yorker at Alter Brewing I decided to give this place a whirl. New Yorkers think they have the best pizza. A lot of New York parlors are good and I have a few favorites, but after a while it just tastes like glorified Sbarros. Not that there's anything wrong with that... I'm from Chicago (the actual city), but when it comes to the dough, sauce, toppings, and cheese I don't discriminate. The familiar Chicago neighborhood, thin tavern style pizza that's cut into squares... this is it and Dan's does it right. All neighborhoods in Chicago and the burbs have this kind of pizza and everyone thinks the one closest to their crib is the best. But, it's whatever; people wanna feel like they're getting the best with everything, so I get it... it's just misleading when you've tried the holy grails of ZA already. Dan's offers signature thin, crispy bottom, sweet sauce, and an abundance of homemade sausage that you get with every bite. I can't comment on the thick crust, but it didn't look appetizing, so I'll probably never try it. The thin cracker crust pizza is consistent and travels well. Meanwhile slinging that pizza so good folks be calling their mamas. On my search to find the BEST local pizza spot, Sharon H. and Stephanie P. told me about Dan's Pizza. They were right, it's fantastic! They've been around for 35 years and now I know why. Last evening I ordered a Dan's Special which has sausage green peppers, onions and mushrooms on thin crust. So much flavor. The onions, peppers and mushrooms were sliced perfectly thin, while the sausage was in nice juicy chunks. The sauce was just right. But the crust is amazing. It's thin, crispy but not burnt, with that nice soft doughy layer just before the sauce and toppings. Just typing about it has my mouth watering. I'm SO looking forward to trying more Dan's creations. The menu isn't huge, but if half the items are as tasty as the Dan's Special, I'll definitely become a regular customer. read more
