First time here and hubby and I have mixed feelings. We got there around 9:45 and our party of three was seated and served quickly with friendly service. Service was prompt and friendly, as were other restaurant patrons. There are reviewers who called the decor drab, but let's be honest...unless it is a special occasion (wedding, anniversary, birthday, etc) who cares? It is comfortable and clean country motif and it is the the food and service that truly matter, in my opinion. Come mid-morning for breakfast or it will be packed and hard to get parking or a table. When we left around 11, there was a line out the door, down the ramp and snaking around the parking lot! We tried many carb-tastic delights and I was far more impressed with my meal than my fellow diners. The orange juice tasted fresh and delish and a small was regular size at most places, not an 8 oz juice cup. My over-medium eggs were fresh and cooked perfectly, the hash browns crispy (needed salt), the sausage links were big and flavorful and you are given an option of biscuits and gravy with no up-charge. Ummmm, the biscuits and gravy side is enormous and a meal itself. The biscuit is large, fluffy and fresh. The gravy is peppery and creamy with sausage. Just wish the gravy had been warmer. It was quite cold. We also had turkey bacon, which was floppy and the grits "blah" and dry as well as the cinnamon roll(enormous!). The cinnamon roll, sadly, was dry and stale and we did not care for the cream cheese frosting very much. We also thought the slab of butter on top was a bit overkill. We must have had it on an off day, since people rave about it. Overall, my husband complained that his food wasn't fresh or seasoned. I would get my meal again and just send items back if not warm. This cute little place has a huge menu, super friendly staff, and solid cafe grub. The enclosed patio is a nice space to eat. When we were there the tables were spaced out and the staff were wearing masks - it felt appropriate for the covid sitch. The food was great and really generous portions. I went here with my husband and kids while we were visiting from the Valley. We walked away stuffed (actually waddled away). My husband and I had prime rib with baked potato, veggies, soup and salad bar for $17.95. Well worth the price!! The prime rib was melt in your mouth tender. Their salad bar is decent with a good selection of toppings for your lettuce. The kids shared a cheese pizza which came with french fries and a brownie for $4.99. They have a large selection on the kids menu. They have homemade pies too! We shared the strawberry rhubarb with vanilla ice cream. I don't find this type of pie too often so I take advantage of it when I can. It was awesome and big enough to share. You have to stop in if you are in Show Low! read more

I am in Whiteriver, AZ visiting a friend and she told me Darbi's cafe is a good place to eat at. She has never been there before so we both decided to try this place for brunch/lunch on a rainy Saturday morning. When we arrived there, parking lot was packed and it was wet/rainy. We saw a line at the front door. :( We knew this place is always busy/packed! The wait for 2 was about 15 minutes and we wanted to sit inside because it's raining. I ordered the Southern fried chicken and she ordered the meatload. For both the entrees, we could have soup + salad at the salad bar. Salad bar: It's decent, it has fresh vegetables (lettuce, tomatoes, mushrooms, peas, etc). It has four different type of dressings. Nothing out of the ordinary but enough to make a decent, delicious salad. Soup: Hmm.. ehhh I wasn't feeling the soup. A little bit saltier for me. For the main entree, my southern fried chicken was fried to perfection! It was so crispy and fresh. Delicious. It wasn't soggy or anything. I like it a lot and 4 pieces of large fried chicken for 12.95$?!! YAY! The mashed potatoes were also yum. I tried some of the meatloaf and it was delicious. It had tons of flavor to it. I like the gravy with it too - Gravy is NOT necessarily for the goodness of the meatloaf. Both entrees also came with dinner rolls. Dinner rolls were soft and chewy, pretty good. Food at Darbi's is outstanding and the service is good, but the place is always a madhouse, with servers running through the building, always a crowd waiting (and parking lot full), and we've always felt rushed when eating there. Darbi's deserves its excellent reputation for great food, but the hassle to eat there just isn't worth it to my family and me. read more

I've lived on the mountain for a looooong time but I've never been here before. My friend Gerrianne used to bring us the Biscuits & Gravy from here before when we both worked together on Sundays at Circle K down the road. Everything on the menu looks amazing and I absolutely have to try it all lol! We dropped by Darbi's on our way back down to the valley after a weekend up north. While we did have to wait some time on a busy Sunday morning, it was definitely worth the wait. The restaurant feels like home and has your typical diner feels. The food was all delicious, there was not a single complaint or unsatisfied diner in our party. The pancakes were amazing with their homemade buttermilk syrup. The omelets were huge and French toast was amazing. Will be going there for breakfast any time I'm in the area. read more

The customer service was great, we were greeted and seated in 3 minutes after coming in. As far as pricing goes, you get more then what you pay for. Sweet potato skillet was legendary! Substituted the egg whites for eggs over medium! Very big portion of sweet potatoes, my dog was happy he got to enjoy many! We love Darbi's and as locals we try and get there often. Service is always fast and friendly. The servers all wore the cutest holiday attire. Nice! It was busy yesterday, but as always there were smiles and warm greetings all around. We ordered a traditional breakfast with country potatoes, bacon, 2 eggs and coffee. Very generous portions, cooked perfectly and the coffee cup stayed full. Then, we ordered a pancake to share. It was tasty, but so very small. Maybe 4 to 4 1/2 inches in diameter for $4? Darby's is truly down home cooking. The place is packed all the time and there is a reason for it! I had the Hand Cut Prime Rib and it was both perfectly cooked and seasoned to what I had requested. Dinner came with one trip to the soup and salad bar. May I say that the Beef Barley soup that I had that night was the best I have ever had anywhere. The steak was a 12oz portion that is quite filling. The green beans were infused with onions and quite tasty. The building is rustic and gives you the feel of Northern Arizona. Only thing i may regret would be not ordering the cinnamon roll which is apparently a town favorite but i couldn't even finish the massive meal I had. As for quality - the country fried steak was solid and almost a truly southern style. The biscuit was a little hard on the edges and not as fluffy as i guess i am used to now that i live in the southeast but the gravy was spot on.
