We ate here again this morning for about the 10th time and we cannot say enough good things about Darrell's Diner. We always go for the breakfast menu. The prices are just right. The menu is very easy to read. They have great, fast, and very friendly service. The staff has always been extremely friendly at every Darrell's location that we go to (and we have been to 3 locations here in Marion County). As a testament to the quality of their breakfasts we normally leave very full and without a single left over. This place is highly recommended. We when because reviews great. The place was packed and very bizzy. Had to wait at front for them to clean off place to sit. Ordered they bring food. Forget one idem ordered. But the main thing me and my wife see is grease on food wow. We eating in good old nasty great tasting breakfast. I am soaking my napkin on food to take grease away. I was a victim of Darrell's Diner! I ordered a Bacon cheeseburger, med.. Prior to receiving it a blue smoke cloud emerged from the kitchen, the front door was opened to air the place out. Moments later I was served an extremely charred burger. I attempted a few bites after sawing off the char. it wasn't good as I was ignored by the wait staff in my attempt to send it back! This place used to be good, well for the last 3 years I have been going for breakfast. Unfortunately they have had a major staff change, both in the kitchen and the servers, and it is just not the same. The last few of times eating here have been disappointing. Eggs undercooked, hash browns barely cooked (when ordered well done) bacon cold, biscuit burned on the bottom and cold. The new girls in the front are nice enough but young and inexperienced. I sat waiting to send back my undercooked eggs for 7 mins, until anyone saw there was a problem. There is a lot of gossip between the servers, which the clients can hear, and don't particularly want to. With the right training and supervision these girls have potential as do the kitchen staff, but I have not ever seen a manager training or supervising, (except for 2 weeks on the new POS system) and that's a shame.The girls even complain there is little training and no supervision, within their conversations in the background. Management should be helping the staff be successful, which would benefit everyone, staff, management and clients. If you want pleasant conversation, and to pry into local gossip then right now it's the place for you. But if you want great service and well cooked food, then I would recommend you passing by this store as of August 2016. read more

Son found a drug needle under table ,went in and a waitress was sitting up against the wall sitting at the booth near window and she got up and seated us there .half way done eating my son looks down and says look there was a syringe that had some blood and something yellow in it and I will never go back in there again ever. read more

Visting the area, you never know where to go. Now we know where to go when we are in the Ocala area. We ordered over medium well eggs and they did it right. The hash browns were fantastic (not greasy) The place was clean and the staff very friendly. You could tell, they were happy to be there to service. I heard a lot about this place, so I went with my sister on a Monday for breakfast. It wasn't busy, but it took a while to get the food. The plate that my food was on was dirty, with crusted on food from another diner. I did not finish my meal. I've heard good things, but won't go back. read more

We love Darrell's. He is an awesome guy who supports the children in Ocala. Will do anything we need to help out our scouts! He has many resturants and does a great job running them. Has a wonderful staff. We have ate at 4 of his places and got the best service at each one. 40 East is our favorite but also like SilverSprings Shores and Belleview. Try them all! His food is awesome. My favorites are is hashbrowns and the Country fried Steak. His pancakes and waffles are good too as all the lunch items are awesome! read more

1-30-18- first time at this location AND last time. Ordered the daily special, Chicken Pot Pie, which was not a typical "pie", but a biscuit in the middle of a plate full of tepid goo, similar to chipped beef concoction. This food was not safely temped to food-safe temperature guidelines, per ServSafe food handling. My conclusion is the batch of filling goo was prepared early in the day and insufficiently kept 'warm' till someone ordered. No more "specials" for me!! read more

I have eaten both breakfast & lunch at The Heather Island Plaza Darell's Diner in Silver Springs Shores.. The food is excellent in taste & portions. The price is right. But best of all I had my sister s birthday party there. The staff did a great job. Darell exceeded my expectations on the cake in both taste and decoration. I am more than satisfied with the restaurant. My sister and I recommend Darell s Dog Gone Good Diner to all our friends. read more

Sunday breakfast for hubby and me... And it paid off to be nice:) we got the coffee on the house!!!!! ($4.00 off check). Went there at 8 am, it opens at 6am. It was very busy and we waited about 7 minutes. Was served coffee right away. Our order came 12 minutes later of Sausage gravy, + 2eggs+2 biscuits ($6)and 2-2-2 (2 hotcakes+2 Eggs +2 bacons)($5.50), everything was hot, fresh and the gravy was seasoned and delicious. The server(Darin) was there with fresh coffee throughout our stay. At the checkout, the owner was there ringing customers out. ( we knew it was him because there is a newspaper review and his picture hanging on the wall, in the booth where we sat, to the right of the kitchen entry) he apologized for the delay in service. We smilingly said: we didn't mind! All was good !! and that's when he took the coffees off the check! On the house! We will go back for lunch, we heard other customers raving about that!!!! read more

I went to Darrell's today in the Shores, only reason is because Scambles had a line, only 5 tables in Darrells at 12:20? I have ate there several times and I am sad to say have never had a great experience. First, the water is terrible and anything made with that water tastes just as bad. Told waitress and answer was, well its city water, wrong its county water and I have county water and is no where near that bad. Ordered the patty melt medium. When it came out it was so rare the bread was totally red with blood. Sent back was told they were making a new one. Obviously not because it came back in under 2 min. Same fries that were now cold and soggy (still had my salt on them) onions were still red from the last blood. Was again told well he's a new cook, if you hire cook that can't even cook a burger there is a problem. Of course was told "lunch is on us" I didn't want a fry lunch I wanted a good lunch. Also I heard 2 other people were getting something taken off there check. 6 tables in restaurant and 3 free lunches. The burger itself had absolutely no taste. I stopped going there for breakfast for similiar bad food and service. I live in the shores and was happy went it first opened to have a nice sit down restaurant even if it was only breakfast and lunch but lately highly doubt it even breaks even as slow as it always is. I have been a realtor now for 14 years but before that was a restaurant general manager for Bob Evans, Ryans Steakhouse, Lonestar steakhouse and this restaurant truly needs someone real management there and someone who knows how to hire. A cook that can't cook a burger in a diner should be working at a fast food place. Last time giving that one a chance. I have enjoyed the food at the blvd diner several times, but as I live in the Shores it is just a shame how awful this one is. read more

The food was very good. Hash browns were a little greasy, but the omelet was fluffy & had lots of vegetables. My husbands corn beef hash was excellent. Not the kind of place you would stop at if you just driving by and hadn't heard anything about it. read more

I went there for lunch and it was not a good experience. First it took our waitress a long time to get our menus, because she was to into her personal conversation with another person to care to much. Then my burger was burned. My daughter's salad had no taste. She never came to ask how our food was. When she finally came over with the check, my daughter commented about the salad and instead of asking if she wanted something else she commence telling her how their is dressing in it and it should taste good. Why would she contradict what the customer said. She should have offered something else. Went to pay the bill and was asked how everything was, so I told him. All the empty tables were dirty when I went there. The girls were running around but it seemed like nothing was 'getting done'. We sat at a dirty table and a waitress cleaned up for us. This service seemed backwards but looking around it was happening more often than not. To be this loose management wise typically is reserved for a greasy spoon 'joint'. When opening the menu which is not extensive 'some sandwiches salads and breakfast that they say is all day but curiously unless you have it during their early bird times..before 11 am prices go up precipitously. I mean 2 eggs any style 5,95? So I had a chefs salad 7.95. 2 tomato slices, 3 cucumber slices, 2 slices of ham 1 slice cheese. No egg, they said they didn't have any eggs. I asked for extra croutons they said they don't serve croutons but they said they would take care of me...they gave me 3 packs of crackers! No cream in the house...they serve 'coffee creamer' and the o.j. was lukewarm and tasted like cheap oj from a local grocer. To top it off my wife ordered biscuits and gravy $5.19 heavy on raw like biscuit and light on gravy. Yes there was a hair in the gravy. The waitress saw hardly a bite was taken and never asked a thing. This whole charade of a meal took over an hour but they took my money in a minute. My friend and I just ate here for the first time. I had the Rueben sandwich platter and she had the Turkey Club platter. The Reuben was yummy! My friend insisted that I take a bite of her Turkey Club. WOW, what an awesome taste! We ended up ordering two more to take home for later. We went in about 11 AM and most of the people in there had ordered a breakfast and the breakfasts looked wonderful. The waitresses were very nice. We have eaten there many many times at the Friendship Plaza location. I have raved over the outstanding cheese omelets recommending that menu item to people over and over. The food and service has been superb until yesterday...2/14/15. The service was still good but the food was disappointing. There had to be a new cook in the kitchen. The cheese omelet wasn't very cheesy and it was NOT melted. My husband ordered the Mountain Scramble and said the biscuit was hard as a rock. We have been going to Darrell's for breakfast for almost two years. Normally the food, service and cost is what brings us back, but our last two visits (by OTOW) have been a major disappointment. Two visits ago (@2 months), the food, service and price was Good - as expected, but, when the waitress collected our money for a ~ $14.XX tab. We gave her a $20 and she said thank you for the nice tip and turned away. We had to ask for change back so we could decide how much of a tip to leave. We normally leave @20%, sometimes slightly more, sometimes slightly less. She then said she could not make change (due to no coins) and expected to keep the change and round up the bill by @$0.75. It's not about the money, it was her attitude and effort to self determine her tip. We finally settled up and left thinking it will be a while before we go back, hoping she would be gone. Well, we went back today for breakfast (she was not there). We did not get our bacon delivered with our food and had to ask for it twice. When it finally came out it was seriously undercooked. I prefer my bacon cooked less what than many people want and it was too undercooked for me to the point of looking almost raw. We told the waitress who agreed it was undercooked (why did she try to give it to us?) and took it back telling the cook he undercooked the bacon. Eventually it came out again, but we had already finished eating. It was let our food get cold while we waited or eat raw bacon - not a good choice. I asked the waitress to adjust our check for no meat which she did by charging us à la carte for everything minus 10%, which ended up being the same price as the breakfast special with meat. I almost forgot, we had hash-browns which are normally very good, but both of our plated were saturated with whatever they cooked them in to the point it puddled and could be poured off of the plate. We have always enjoyed going there once a week, but its time to find another place for breakfast. read more
