Have been going here off and on for years. It IS 100% 'off' now. Very disappointed. . YESTERDAY: Daughter in law took her car there with a huge bubble in a tire with only 4,000 miles on it. (She'd bought the tires at Darrell's.). . However they wouldn't honor the warranty - charging her for a new tire. (I contacted the mfg. (Prinx U.S.) - with pictures - and they sent me a copy of their warranty, and an email indicating it should be reimbursed under warranty.) . Denying her claim sure appears to be a clear violation of their warranty to boot. At absolute minimum - it's in a gray area of interpretation which could (and should) go easily in the customer's favor. But I don't even think it's remotely gray (I write that as a former OEM dealer rep who had to deal with this sort of thing all the time back in the day b/w dealers, customers and the OEM). . This on top of a very expensive misdiagnosis on my car late last year. (Darrell sold me a new alternator - very expensive repair; a few days later, same problem. Took it to the dealer this time and it was the vehicle's computer, not the alternator). _____________________________ TODAY: Just got back from dropping my DIL off to pick up her car. Showed the Svc Writer the Prinx tire warranty and their email (from Prinx US HQ in LA that they sent me) indicating that this should be covered. . The Svc. Writer dug in his heels and still made my DIL pay. ...The warranty policy is poorly written and has major gray areas; the tire shop could have easily - and honestly/legitimately - gone in favor of the customer. . But - they'd rather "win the battle" - and lose two customer families (mine and my son/DIL with a half dozen vehicles b/w us) as a result. . Prinx U.S. might end up coming through, but if they do it is absolutely NOT because of anything Darrell's did. They have done nothing and even been an impediment (I asked Darrell's for the Prinx contact info --- crickets -- had to find it myself; no help whatsoever). ....from reading through the other reviews here; looks like we're not the first customers that have gotten hosed on tires at this place. Darrell - the owner - was not around and has not engaged in this directly. While he seems like a genuinely decent guy, experience tells me that the Service Writers are acting this way - (choosing to drive business away like this) - because that's what they've been directed/trained to do by the owner. So, go figure? -------- Addendum: There's an old saying, "Follow the money." In an exchange w/the tire mfg I just learned something that might explain why Darrell's svc writer insisted on taking such a hardline. Money! In looking at my DIL's bill; Darrell's charged for for the following: + "Tire Disposal" - I'm sorry but putting the old tire in the back seat of her car is not chargeable tire disposal! . + Retail for labor ($24) + And retail for the tire itself. If they had honored the warranty (as they legally should have); the tire mfg Prinx would have sent them a new replacement tire; a 1-for-1 exchange. (They want to send us to another store for an exchange. Appreciated but too late for that.) . What this means is - if Darrell had done the warranty exchange as he should have - rather than the ~50% markup he charged my DIL on the tire he would have likely made zero on the 1-for-1 tire exchange. . Plus, I got the impression Prinx doesn't reimburse the stores for labor. So rather than the $24 bucks he made on my DIL, he'd have probably gotten zero. . And of course he couldn't have hit her up for a disposal fee if it was warranty. Darrell's likely made close to a 50% profit margin (~90% markup) on this little repair. ...hope it was worth it; losing - until the end of time - two families who have collectively spent many thousands of dollars in repairs here over the years - . My service engine light came on on my vehicle so I made an appointment and took it to Darrell's. They said the car's computer was indicating a timing chain issue (i.e. the timing chain, tensioner or a bad sensor). They told me there was gunk in the engine and they thought an oil change and flush would fix it. I told them it was only 1,500 miles since my last oil change but they were pretty sure that gunk was the problem. Against my better judgement I paid $173 to them for an oil change and some type of de-gunk treatment. The light came back on an hour after driving away and I took it to a different mechanic. The other mechanic replaced a faulty timing chain sensor and my car's been happy ever since. I understand mechanic work is as much an art as it is a science but the car's computer accurately told them what the problem was and yet I still got sold a de-gunk treatment. I called on a Saturday morning to check if they can able to replace brake pads. I dropped the vehicle and after 1.5 hours, they called back and mentioned that only rear brake pad and rotors needs replacement and front should be good for another few thousand miles. Also mentioned cabin filter needs replacement. Vehicle was ready by the time they mentioned. Price is almost the same as other places. They didn't try to up sell and things were get done on time. At the time of paying, I showed the coupon from their website which they honored and adjusted the amount. I brought my car to Darrell's Firestone a few months ago for an oil change. I wanted to use a groupon that I bought on Groupon now for a $20 oil change. Unfortunately, they did not have the filters for my car available and needed to go to auto zone to pick one up. It ended up being a 2 hour wait...but luckily I brought my nook to pass the time. Darrell was very friendly during my wait and gave me updates on the status. Due to the fact that I needed synthetic oil, Darrell had to tack on an $80 fee...bringing my total paid to $100...which is virtually the same price as the dealership. As nice as Darrell is, not sure if I will be back since I really did not save anything by coming here. read more

Darrell's Firestone saved the day for my family. Went down to sharing one car at the beginning of pandemic and havent replaced the second car yet. This makes getting your car fixed really tricky if you dont have a ride in the meantime. Darrell's Firestone worked with my crazy tight schedule to get the car in one day to diagnose and quote repairs and to order parts, and I brought it back the next day and they repaired it first thing and it was ready before noon. Drives solid as a rock, no BS and they gave the car a thorough safety inspection as well. Typical end of winter Michigan repairs, front end parts and new tires. No other mechanic in town would even look at my car without me leaving it for days. I went to 5 other shops before I found Darrell's Firestone. Last year I had a similar repair that was more expensive and took them 4 days with my car, and I just couldnt do that this time. Darrells is where I go to get my car fixed. It's been about 8 years since I have found this gem of a place. Being female it's dicey at best to get a place that will not take advantage of you knowing two things about a car, put gas in it, and it goes. They have been trust worthy, polite, and very professional every time I have gone in over the past 8 years. The LOC program for oil changes, makes me want to keep my oil changed every 3000 miles, or 3 months. For $200 entry fee you get a card, that lets you have free oil changes forever, even if you get a different car you can transfer it to that car for a small fee. My tire was losing air quickly so I went here since it had the highest reviews and close to my work. I asked if they could squeeze me in since I didn't have an appointment. I figured it would take a couple hours so I dropped it off. They called 30 minutes later and said it was fixed!! They found a nail, patched it, and cost $25! I like how honest these guys are. The don't make me feel like an idiot and their prices are doable. I have gotten 2 oil changes, a tire rotation and they looked at a problem with my windshield wiper spout. They tell it how it is, no trying to up sell you, you go in tell them what you want and if there are any problems they discover they discuss the most effective way to go about fixing it with as low cost to you as possible. read more

I have used them for years. When dealing directly with Darrell I feel very comfortable. he does give good prices, perhaps too good. His assistant or manager Cary charges more...go figure. I do like having them down the road from me. I live in Livonia but will go out of my way to go here. I do trust them 100%. Who can you say that about anymore? When working with a car dealership, I always feel they have thier interest first and foremost. When you go to a dealer they will add on everything they can think of to your bill. It is never a simple in or out as far as costs go with a dealer; unless its just an oil change. I am not saying Darrell's is perfect. They are good so leave it at that. If you think anyone is perfect you are setting yourself up for disappointment. For instance, I had to go back three times to get my head light beams corrected. Ditto for a slow leak on a tire. But considering that I have taken at least five vehicles in over a 15 year time period for all kinds of work , I would say that is pretty good... read more

They do NOT honor their service plans on their tires! I bought a brand new set of tires about 1 year ago, spent over $800 betweeen the tires, labor and a service plan to cover the tires. When I had a flat tire yesterday and brought it in to be fixed or replaced they claimed it's not covered even though the plan is supposed to cover fixing and or replacing with a Pro Rated tire. My brake light came on, so I took it in to them, and they said my brake system was leaking, and that I would need a $600 repair. I had a handy friend look at it, and it turned out I just needed new pads. Our driveway was just redone, and my car was always parked on that bleach-white surface.
