Fun night with friends! Our tour of the 104 year-old building did not disappoint. You are literally transported back in time as you roam the place. Having a Wedding here, like our friends who were with us did, would be awesome! Skamasala provided some really cool relaxing Jazz out in the Biergarten. Seating was plentiful and the atmosphere was chill. Food was tasty and the beer was very cold. They offered a good selection of local 4Hand Brewery beers, which I loved, but didn't have any German or German style beer? I was shocked and disappointed by this and it immediately put me in the 3 Star Zone. I have been to many Biergartens here in the USA as well as in Munich and they all had German style beer. Came for a trivia night. This was my first time ever here and it was a great time! I got a beer and funnel cake. The funnel cake was nice and hot and the apples were a nice touch to it. The food of das bevo is amazing. There was a Beatles themed event today and the live performer sang well. The insanity was in the volume of the speaker. I understand you want people to hear your live performer, but it was like being at a night club. It was so loud me and my friends were screaming at each other to be able to hear anything. The waiter was making jokes about not being able to hear us. I eventually actually asked to turn the speaker volume down and that was ignored. My friend had her apple watch warn her there was excessive volume four different times. We would've left but we waited for the table for an hour already and the performer started after we got seated. Our ears were ringing when we left. I enjoy this level of volume at a concert, but at das bevo it was so absurd. I don't know if it's normally that loud when they have live performers, but I can't imagine anyone wants literal hearing damage from brunch. I had the Cobb salad that was ok, I asked for the buttermilk dressing on the side but received it served on the salad. The chicken on the salad was very good so was the blue cheese. My first experience at das bevo was good.. Did the Sunday brunch so we decided to go there for dinner... Service was good, appetizers good however the main entries were horrible.. The garlic mash potatoes were clumpy and ice cold, the steak special was all fat and grisly..it was a 14 oz $40 dollar rib eye that 4 ozs I could eat. The sauerbraten (roast beef) was like rubber and way over cooked with hardly no sauce on it... They also didn't serve the dinner rolls that made bevo mill... They only have them on Sunday.. Told manager about it and he said sorry and walked away .. Never came back.. Asked the maitre d ( If that's what you would call him) was there a kitchen manager or head chef avaliable? I was very excited to see this place after it was remodeled. The interior and exterior are absolutely amazing! The inside is magical! I love how all the German details inside have been preserved. The beer comes in 16 or 22 ounces and they had a delightful mango beer that I loved. We had the cheese curds for a starter which has a delightful maybe potato dipping sauce? It paired so well with the cheese curds. For dinner, I had a traditional veggie spatzal which was most delicious! The portion was great and I had leftovers the next day. I would like to come back when it cools off a bit and we could enjoy a beer outside. read more

Das Bevo is a German-themed restaurant located inside Bevo Mill. They have done great at decorating the inside to match the German feel of the mill. The drink menu is pretty good with a mix of beers from local STL to German beers and others. I really like that they have a choice of 16 or 22 oz and both are served in a tall mug. The also have decent wine selection and cocktails. The food menu has a lot of your standard German fare from bratwursts to sauerkraut to pretzels. The mustard is strong mustard and tastes great with the pretzels and bratwurst. The sauerkraut is also nice because it is fairly mild with less of the pucker. I have so far only been here in the winter time so I haven't had a chance to experience their outside patio. It looks super awesome with fire pits and tables and outdoor game space. I have certainly added it to my list of summer spots to check out. They also started doing Geeks Who Drink trivia nights on Wed starting at 7pm. read more

I reserved the lower room for a surprise birthday party for my wife. The staff was extremely helpful, accommodating, and friendly, especially since they had a polka festival going on the same day in the main room. The food was amazing! I was super excited to come check this place out. The good parts were the cocktails and the service. The servers seemed really nice which is rare, and I really appreciate that and a well crafted cocktail so those are the positives. The negatives are the food was bland and cold. I mean the fries that accompanied my chicken salad sandwich were hard and cold. The bun on my sandwich was good and toasted which was great if the rest of the meal wasn't cold. Another decent thing was they used the thin sliced pickles that were the width of the sandwich which was appeasing to me and my obsession with good pickles. I don't really know why Das Bevo isn't getting more love. It's a one of a kind beautifully restored historical landmark and you can drink beer in it. I mean, what more could you want? You probably want amazing pretzels. Which I want, too. And they have them so everyone is happy. I sat outside but I didn't hesitate to take a gander at the interior before I settled down. There isn't a bad spot in the whole place. I've been inside Das Bevo before it changed hands. The new owners did a great job at renovating it. It has a modern appeal but still maintains the integrity of the original architecture. I love the inside but the outside might be better. STL has great patios but our overall patio game is weak. Das Bevo adds to that with a huge and beautiful biergarten. Dare I say, the best in STL? I suppose that's a matter of opinion but it's top 5 no question. They have a great beer selection at amazing prices. There are steins and ubersteins which are just giant servings. Always go for the uberstein... it's more cost effective so you gotta. I've had their pretzels which I approve of but I need to come back for a proper meal. If you like beer and are looking for somewhere new and unique then you should visit Das Bevo. read more

For some, this is traditional German comfort food. For me, it was way too expensive for incredibly bland and basic food. I tried the trout and the seasoning (capers and lemon) was neither present nor German, however all the other dishes had German themes: beer, cheese, kraut, bratwurst. They were out of almost 4 different items we tried to order, which made the menu limited to 3 entree options. The waiter didn't seem familiar with the food and had difficulty giving us advice and incorrectly explained food on multiple accounts. Maybe he was overworked or in training, but it was a confusing experience at best. I really respect the chef responsible for the menu. Went for brunch. The food is good, though priced rather high for what you get. The service was the absolute worst I've ever experienced in a restaurant. Over an hour and a half wait to get our food. Didn't get spoons with the coffee. Asked for plastic cups and lids (for the kids), but didn't get straws. Had to track somebody down to get extra napkins, even though we'd already requested them from the waiter. Had to track somebody down for the straws, which it turns out, they were out of. Didn't get our waters refilled until over an hour in. Won't be back. read more

The reviews were kinda mixed on this place, so we almost didn't go. I'm so glad we decided to check it out! The historic charm is excellent and makes it a unique dining experience. Since it was a balmy 100 degrees outside, we opted to dine indoors. We were seated in what was the private dining hall for the Busch family. The walls are covered with murals painted in the 1890s and the building has architect that is much appreciated beyond the cookie cutter architecture of our day. Our food came quickly and was delicious. I wouldn't say it's cheap, but also isn't hugely overpriced. We split the mozzarella and tomato panini and the pork schnitzel. I'm so happy that the famous south city landmark Bevo Mill has been reincarnated into its restored form as the new restaurant, biergarten and event venue Das Bevo. The Boo Cat Club, Majorette and Sugarfire Smoke House peeps have gone out of their way to create a real treasure. This place is something to see. Besides the obvious windmill feature on the exterior, it's grand hall is truly unique. Now they are offering a full menu (under $15) and Sunday brunch. Four stars heading toward five! We had a couple cold beverages in the patio and snacks with our pup. If a full meal is as great as what we had tonight I'll be bumping this to five stars soon! Pup friendly patio. Good buffer from the traffic on Gravois. Hubby enjoyed two local brews. I had the Lilly's Margarita, deliciously different with lingonberry. I have been to Das Bevo about 5 times now. Each time I try a new dish. And, each time I go, I've noticed the menu has expanded! I've sat outside among the gorgeous plants and flowers and I've sat inside surrounded by the authentic German architecture and artifacts. Both experiences were comfortable and the staff extremely accommodating. Naomi, Kelly and Jessica made sure we had everything we wanted. Prices are right in line. The quality of the food is fabulous and portions are generous. Kudos to the chef who gets an A+ for quality and presentation! We came here on a Saturday for lunch. 4 of us were sat quickly and the service throughout was good. I got the bratwurst and it was amazing. Of course it was lol. Handcut fries came with it. I will be back just for this. My uncle got the Mac and cheese and it was amazing also. Huge portion. We loved the green onions in it. Just a little bit. My dad got the mussels and we all had to try them. We really thought they were good too. My grandma said she loved her BLT. This was an excellent birthday lunch and I can't tell you how affordable this place is. We appreciate it. Angie K was our server and she is great. Just a very cool, iconic location in St. Louis. You walk inside and it feels as if you have turned back time. While it's all been remodeled and livened up for current day, the nostalgic vibe and ambience of a 100 year old pub brings you back. It's a cozy and fun place to be, with a great selection of beer and drinks to get everyone talking and having fun. On top of that the food is delicious! Especially so is the Sunday Brunch. You really can't go wrong with any selection, though I especially enjoyed their take on biscuits and gravy, as did my son. Service was fantastic and while it was too cold to enjoy on our visit, the outdoor patio looks like an especially fun time to be had with a few friends and some warm weather. This is one of the most unique and interesting historical places to eat. The food is great! I had butternut squash soup, some veggies and spaetzle (my first time to eat it). The soup was delicious! The chef came out and talked with me about how it is freshly made in-house. That was a nice touch! The Spaetzle was unique and so good!Service was excellent! There was a jazz band playing, which added to the already awesome atmosphere. The enormous fireplace added a warm and lovely touch as well. I'm looking forward to my next meal at Das Bevo! A group of us went there for Sunday brunch. The food was delicious. Best waffles I have ever eaten. Staff was very friendly.

We went tonight. It wasn't crowded. We ordered the brisket nachos and Reuben bratwurst. After 30 minutes, we flagged down the bartender to ask where our food was given they weren't busy. She returned 5-10 minutes later with our order. The brisket was dry, stringy, and tasteless. The beer cheese is basically velveeta. The tortilla chips were stale. The pretzel roll for the bratwurst was stale. Meanwhile, the country singer was singing every sad, melancholy song written. And the guy behind us was smoking a cigar so we got to smell that while we ate bad food. Thank goodness the Jack Daniels was good. read more

This building is pretty awesome both inside and out. Other than that, there isn't much else to see here.They barely have 8 beers on draft and only 6 of them on the menu. Most of the draught beers were $8 a pint; significantly higher than any other beer hall/beer bar in the city. We went here with a large group. I ordered a heffe and was given a cider. The waiter was doing his best and did bring the correct beer eventually. They add automatic gratuity of 20% for groups of 6 or more.  There was a band playing and they were good but our table was right next to it so we had to yell to each other to have a conversation. The pretzels and cheese curds were enjoyable but the slow service and high beer prices are a no-no for me. read more

Tonight on Valentine Day, Elvis was in the building. Full house. Great show. Once we've got seated, gave them our orders, and got our drinks immediately. So far so good? Not! We waited one hour and a half wondering what happened to our foods. And our waitress was MIA. So I flagged down the manager, and he said it's a crazy night blah blah, and blah. I said I understand that but at least give us the salads!!! Ten minutes later, the salads came. I saw three tables left, and walked out. I was debating should I leave too? Since I waited for almost two hours already it'd be a total waste and spoil the whole evening. Finally, after two hours of waiting, the foods came. BTW, Elvis left the building an hour ago. We had the short ribs, and German pork schnitzel. Delicious! The foods were excellent. I'd had give five stars, but the service was non exist. A lot of people working there. Went in for the first time for Happy Hour (which they don't have yet) and chatted with the super friendly host (Mark, I think) who also happened to be bartending. He poured great drinks and let us know about all the new and upcoming things they were trying with brunch, so much so that we all decided return for brunch the following Sunday. Brunch was busy but we were easily seated and food came out quickly. Server was also super friendly. They recently added on the Big Ass Breakfast Burrito which was filled with eggs, cheese potatoes and a whole bratwurst, all covered in beer cheese. They were also offering samples of the cheddar/chive biscuits and cinnamon rolls. Everything was good with the only common observation being that items that had cheese were stingy on the cheese and the slinger could have used more chili. We were excited about the new bottomless mimosa add on for $15...until we tried them. 1/3 champagne and 2/3 OJ doesn't cut it for me, especially for $15. Closer to the end of brunch of couple of people who worked there were eating and having mimosas and theirs looked poured properly. You can easily spot a good mimosa by its color. Will definitely be back, hopefully when the host is behind the bar and we can expect a decent pour. Probably try brunch again but will skip the mimosas. read more

The restaurant goes all the way back to the Busch family, being a stopping place for August Busch on his way home from the Brewery. I would recommend the fish and chips and the pretzels as an appetizer. The pretzels are fresh from the oven and can be dipped in beer cheese. This would make a nice place for a reception or banquet! I would give zero stars if possible. I have no clue what the hype is about!! We came in and my boyfriend ordered the 24$ short rib. Which comes with 3 small pieces of meat. 3 small slices of carrot and a large amount of terrible potato salad. I ordered the chz curds which is a APP!! However when our food was brought out they only brought his entree and asked me if we were sharing it??? A few minutes passed and I asked about my App he told me they already went out! Well they clearly went to the wrong table because I didn't eat them!! 15 mins later I received my 8$ cheese balls. The drinks don't even get me started ! Terriblllleeee!! Thick nasty milky! Decided to try this place on a Saturday night. The atmosphere was great, but the food at service could definitely use some improvement. Our waitress was nice, but our initial wait time (before even being greeted) was a little over 10 minutes. She was rather close throughout the entire evening, and did not keep our waters filled. She was helpful in addressing our issues with the food. I ordered the fish and chips and my date had the pork schnitzel. When the meals came out, the fries were cold (like, had-been-in-the-fridge cold). We let the staff know, and received replacement fries. The fish had okay flavor, but something smelled off. I decided not to take the risk, and ate the cole slaw instead. My date's entree was good, but I wouldn't repeat the experience for the price. The pork was cooked well, but lacked any seasoning. The potato salad seemed like it'd been tossed in what tasted like Italian dressing. Definitely not a German-style potatoes salad. The beer was $10 for a 22 oz hefeweizen. Seemed a bit pricey, but it was delicious. All in all, we won't be returning. The price does not reflect the level of service or the quality of food. It's really a shame, because we haven't found a good German restaraunt here in St. Louis yet. :( read more

Das Bevo is located in the beautifully restored historic Bevo Mill. The owners have done a wonderful job maintaining the original features of the building while transforming it into a German beer hall. It has a large patio with eclectic art pieces great for listening to live music with beer in hand once the weather gets a bit warmer. Inside to the right they have the beer hall which is noisy like any beer hall but wide, spacious, and inviting. We sat in the small mill room to the left which was quieter and offered bench seating in the little alcoves which served perfect to place a baby carrier right next to you. The staff were incredibly inviting we had at leave four or five people introduce themselves to us and they made a good impression. We both got a mug of beer from a list that included a good mix of German beers and local brews. We also got the cheese dip appetizer with homemade pretzels which was really steep at $14 but totally worth it. My husband had the short rib special which he thought was flavorful and had great sides. I had the Bevo burger which was just ok. The fries were good but the burger wasn't anything special, the bun was pretty dry, and the cheese was only slightly melted. Won't keep me from coming back I'll just order something different next time. read more
