Homer is a cute, quiet town just north of Cortland. Don't let that mislead you though. We needed to get out of Cortland for it was graduation weekend, and everywhere was going to be packed. Dasher's took care of us with reservations and even accommodating another 5 to our rather large party at last minute! As it turns out, Dasher's decided this was the same night, they would debut their new summer menu. So putting in our order took some time. The service was very friendly, and we loved their shirts, "Big taste in a small town." The starter bread was put over the top with the sweet butter. I'm one that doesn't usually indulge in bread and butter, but I couldn't get enough of it. The food came out surprisingly fast once the orders were put in. Everyone absolutely loved their food. It was full of flavorful and the menu had a great variety from chips and salsa to seafood to chicken sandwiches. My mother got a chicken and lobster pot pie which was surprisingly executed very well. This place is a very pleasant surprise and very close to Cortland. Since I rarely get to Homer I would like to give this a nice review as everyone was pleasant and the food was delicious. Sat at the bar with my wife and her friend and the owner came out of the kitchen and was very accommodating to my wife who wanted something simple to eat. I had the cioppino which is a seafood stew and it was delicious maybe could've used a little kick of spice and a couple of garlic bread points but still excellent. May I suggest you serve it with a spoon and I would have finished the last drop My wife's friend had a delicious steak and crab cake and she said it was awesome. Nice little gastropub. Loved the old-fashioned cocktails. Appetizers were generous and food was good quality. Tasty French dip sandwich. Caprese salad was good but needs a little work on presentation--cheese should be sliced rather than presented in blobs. Bar food at "gourmet" prices. Decent burgers and salads but their mac and cheese was dry and definitely did NOT need truffle oil. Their appetizers look like something a teenager would throw together from their parents pantry and their steaks and seafood are wickedly overpriced. For being a "pub" too, their wings are AWFUL! Overcooked, greasy and tossed in Franks Red Hot or Sriracha. Seriously guys? No garlic parm? No real "Buffalo?" You didn't even include butter in the Franks... It's nice to have a place like this in Homer but they need to either reduce their prices to reflect the food they're serving or, simply put, make their food better. read more

Tried this place for the first time on a Sunday evening. We had a party of seven and no reservations, but that wasn't a problem and we were seated in a c-shaped booth in the back of the bar. I ordered a Tom Collins and a put in an order for a Sizzling Potato Chip Platter for the table. The Tom Collins was well made and was tasty. We all looked over the menu and tried to decide what we wanted. We had to google what "lyonnaise potatoes" are because the steaks come with them and a vegetable (they're sliced pan-fried potatoes and thinly sliced onions, sautéed in butter with parsley). I ordered a Delmonico steak with sautéed mushrooms. The Sizzling Potato Chip Platter was served on a cast iron skillet. The chips were topped with blue cheese and bacon. I didn't actually expect the platter to be sizzling, but I guess I did expect the chips to be warm. Not only were the chips cold, but the cast iron skillet was cold as well, even though it had one of those protective sleeves on the handle and was on a wood block. Although the chips weren't hot, they were tasty. I think they would have been great if they had been served warm. It took about 45 minutes for the entrees to arrive at the table. This surprised me because the place wasn't that busy. I understand good food might take a while to prepare, so I wasn't upset. When the food arrived it looked great. The presentation was very nice. We all dug in with gusto. Four of us had ordered steaks and we all noticed that the toppings on the steaks weren't hot. Some were cold and some were warm at best. The steaks weren't hot either. They were warm. They were properly cooked and tasty, but not hot. In fact, everyone except one person said their food was only warm, not hot. This leads me to believe that the kitchen had a little trouble with one dish and that they either had to do it over, or it took much longer than they anticipated. Thus, the other dishes sat on the counter a while and lost some temperature. Maybe they don't have heat lamps. This would also explain why the food took so long. I do think the prices are a bit high, but not outrageous. Perhaps if the food was hot and we had been blown away by the quality and deliciousness of the food I would think otherwise. I will give this place another try. I think there's real potential here and I'm hoping they were just having an off night in the kitchen. read more

The service was pleasant and a great atmosphere. The Caesar dressing was overpoweringly fishy, and the presentation was pretty but it was hard to consume. The calamari was bland and over priced for the amount given. The bun on the Napa burger was fluffy and buttery but over powered the flavor of the sauce. The beer was a standard price. read more

I grew up living in both Cortland and Homer and moved away after college in '67. I have returned several times a year since because my Mother still lives here. Honestly, I have been sad because this area has lost so many of the jobs, businesses and the growth we had back then. For the last 50 years I have been a loyal customer of Homer Men and Boys because Frog knows how to run a business with great selections and fair prices. Now I am also VERY PLEASED to see there is another sign that Homer is rebounding - Dasher's. Great food, excellent selections, superb service and my wife and I loved dining outside on a lovely summer night. We travel many places in the world, especially now being retired and Dasher's measures up with many high quality facilities. Homer should be very happy with a restaurant like this. I read the comments about service, but ours was very good. Remember that the servers are people, not machines, and like you, have good and not so good days. Went here a few times and the food was pretty good, although very expensive. But worth going back to. The last time we went we got a few steaks, which were the worst cooked steaks I have ever had. I absolutely love this place. I am new to the area and I brought my mom and sister here for all of our first times at dashers. I really wanted to make a good impression for my family and I was terrified because I had no clue were to go. The patio is what caught our eye so we stopped in. We were all blown away, the atmosphere is inviting and comfortable but it's still upscale in a really interesting way. And the food was way more than I expected from a pub. My 11 year old sister doesn't usually eat much but she gobbled down her whole burger. My mother got steak and I got the lobster chicken pot pie. Everything was great. It's hard to find nice places in this area but Dashers Pub is the place to go if you want an interesting fun experience and splurge a little bit on amazing food. If you're in the mood for good food and fine service then this is a great place to come! We joined some friends for a nice Sunday meal and everything was great! We shared a veggie pizza to start followed by burgers, salads, fish & chips. The meal was topped off woth coffee and a shared apple crisp. The waitress was very attentive and eager to make a real perfect , she brought me plenty of extra lemon for my fish, catsup and whatever else we requested. I'll be back again soon. read more

Good food at high prices in nice atmosphere. $9 for a hamburger is a bit much even though it's a very good hamburger. For a small town like Homer, this place has some nice variety. I've only been there twice but I liked the food. I was there for lunch both times and doubt I'll go for dinner unless I'm willing to spring $30 for a steak (which I suspect would be quite good). Plenty of nearby parking, the service was good, and I liked the off-the-floor booths. LATER: I've now been there for dinner a couple of time and they are TERRIFIC. Their prime rib is just outstanding and the relatives I've taken there say their meals were great. Their lunch prices seems high to me but the dinner prices are easily worth what you get. LATER STILL: Gads ... just came back from Dashers where I had the absolute WORST prime rib I have every encountered. Looked great but was so chewy as to be inedible. Have gone here at least 4 times over the past three years. Cedar salmon and apple risotto is great. However as of late, I found the service has declined, the prices have risen significantly, and I find it disappointing that a $25+ entree doesn't come with bread or a side salad. I ordered a side salad, it was really small and cost $6.50 . Also my daughter ordered kids Mac and cheese. It cost $8, came with nothing and tasted awful. I've lived in Homer, NY for over 25 years and have tried Dashers for dinner three times since they opened; most recently this month. Each time has been a disappointment. My last meal which was the Kentucky surf and turf was cold and when I sent it back to be heated, they brought me a new steak which was smaller than the first and just as cold. The steak was tasteless, the potatoes were old and the scallops were fair at best. The waitress was far from warm and friendly. I'm disappointed to say, I won't be going there for a meal again. Dashers was an excellent choice. My girlfriend and I were driving down Main Street and we saw this place and immediately checked the reviews on Yelp. We decided to give it a try and I'm glad we did. It had a nice atmosphere inside. It is a bar/restaurant with friendly staff. Our waitress was very attentive and polite. We were greeted with fresh bread and sweet honey butter with a touch of sea salt. Everything on the menu sounded really good so it was difficult to choose. We started out with the fresh guacamole. It was prepared at the table by a staff member which was really cool. He showed us all of the ingredients and mixed them together. It was delicious. My girlfriend and I both craving a burger, went with the buffalo burger. It had buffalo wing sauce, bleu cheese, and carrots on top. It was really good. Overall, I would definitely recommend Dashers. Amazing place! The Lobster Bisque was the best I've ever had by a long stretch. Great atmosphere, staff and menu. My wife and I tried several 'small plates' and loved them. The Lobster Newburgh was incredible and they are not stingy with the Lobster meat. They also had an impressive wine and craft beer list. I felt compelled to write a review after eating at Dashers tonight and not only received below average good, but below average and rude service as well. Our server, Lyle was inept; No clue about what was on the menu items, didn't bring the water i requested, never cleared the plates we were done with. We ordered the half order of mild chicken wings which were horribly greasy and tasteless. We also ordered th "Utica Greens" which were essentially last night's kale sprinkled with dry bread crumbs and hot pepper flakes...oh, and 2 miniature cubes of prosciutto. They tasted fishy. I told the server that I didn't like them and could we please get another item. When the bill came, the $9 greens were still on the check. I have been eating at the establishments owned by these people for years. I have been gracious before when the food hasn't been good. I have spent hundreds on drinks and dinners and always leave good tips. I would think that the manager might remove a $9 item that I didn't eat, but instead the manager was rude, argued with me about what Utica greens are supposed to taste like, said "I'm sorry you didn't like them" and walked away. I have never been treated so rudely in a local establishment. Huge disappointment. read more

Great atmosphere, good variety in the menu, food has always been good. Have not had a bad experience yet. The lunch sandwiches are excellent and come with a tomato bisque that I wish they had on the regular menu - I would order it all the time! Vegetalian sandwich is one of my favorites - mozzarella, pesto and fried eggplant - excellent. Fred's chopped salad is also a favorite, as is the bruschetta dip assortment. They usually have seafood specials on the menu as well as a variety of seafood dishes. Decent selection of local draft beers as well. Will have to try the wine or beer flights one of these days. I drove from Albany and my two friends also drove some distance for an annual lunch that we decided to have here this year. The food was excellent - especially the apple crisp - the quality of the food was not the issue for us. The reason I am giving this 3 stars and not more is because our server came out and announced to us, as we were getting ready to pay our check - that we had to leave our table if we weren't going to drink because "the girls need this table" whatever that meant. Wow. Very few outside tables were occupied at this time, and the inside of the restaurant was virtually empty this time of day. I have dined at many places all over the country, and I have never been asked to leave in such a shrill, loud, and rude manner. All our fellow diners went silent, and stared. Management need to school your servers on how to treat customers. You just never know if a couple of diners just made a long trip and might want to spend a little time in pleasant surroundings. Even with her rudeness, we still left our server a 20% tip because that's how we roll. read more
