If you are celebrating a special occasion, this is the place for you. We had ordered the fires alligator bites, and that was great. The sauce made the dish. The soup of the day was the shrimp chowder and that was really awesome. We had ordered salmon and rainbow trout, which were cooked perfectly. My husband and I met my daughter for lunch at Dauphin's after leaving Destin headed back home. We were so impressed, everything was perfect. I found Dauphin's to be a fascinating and delicious dining experience. Its setting on the 34th floor of the Bank Building is so sophisticated and elegant. The food presented was delicious -- both the fresh oysters and fish of the day with unusual accompaniments were great. However, as a NY/NJ person, I'm not used to Mobile's super friendly service, which seemed a bit too easy going and friendly for the formal, sophisticated setting. What the heck, who cares, it was a lovely meal. My one problem was with dessert: it was their super-special, $30. berry passion & ice cream thing that is prepared on a cart in front of your table. Please eliminate the 1/2 pound of butter that is put in the cooking pan to start its preparation. This is not necessary. It made the otherwise delicious, flaming dessert much too rich. read more

Best happy hour downtown! BUT not a huge fan of lunch, especially with the recent raise in lunch prices. I have only had dinner a few times and have to report the view was more memorable than the food. Again, highly suggest happy hour specials though: specifically the drinks, fried wickles and pickles, and philly cheesesteak. Cheese plate is not bad, but it is served with saltines (weird!) that you have to ask for, but you can also ask for bread. Cheers! read more

Beyond AMAZING restaurant. A coworker of mine told me about this restaurant and a few of us went to lunch here. It was truly an amazing experience with amazing food. The staff was amazing and friendly and we even got to go in the kitchen where they have a special table that overlooks downtown. For the quality of the food and the atmosphere and staff, the prices are amazing. I had the shrimp and grits and it was truly filling and recommended to me by another coworker along with the sidewinder fries. The fries were amazing because they tasted air fired and they were greasy. I finished it off with the flourless chocolate cake but couldn't finish it. The views are the best available in Mobile. On a clear day you can see Dauphin Island and Gulf Shores. The links in the bar are very well made and the Happy Hour small plates are great. Dinner can be hit or miss. We have been 4 times and three of the four were very good. One was a service disaster. read more

The food is still good, the service still excellent however, the food (same menu) isn't as good as it used to be when they first opened a year even two years ago now. When our party arrived (10) for our reservation there were only lunch menus on the table for our diner at 6pm. It took staff several minutes to figure this out and they acted like it was our fault we were not pleased with lunch menus. Then they placed only one wine list on the table. The appetizers were good but the entrees took 35 minutes after appetizers were cleared to hit the table and when they finally arrived my filet was cold and undercooked. Like a raw side of cold beef. I am originally from Mobile, I have to say that my hometown has the best southern food in all of the south and that's it! I recall about a year ago a Facebook Friend posted a picture from their Anniversary Dinner and on the 34th floor. I never forgot it. I spent Christmas in Mobile this year. I wanted to take my mother someplace that she had not gone so I picked Dauphin's for her and we had lunch here! I am happy that I did! The gumbo with collards, yes collards you know being raised in Alabama collards in gumbo is unheard of. I was skeptical, but let me tell you... it was a soup to want again and a again, yes it was awesome. I had catfish, with mashed potatoes and plantains aaaaaamazing! I ate it all... I had a afternoon White Russian it was very very good! I had a second one. The price for me was on point. The view of the port city in the afternoon was super nice I can only imagine the beauty at night. The atmosphere super nice, on the way to my table I noticed a very very nice wine selection too. View was pretty cool even at night. Ate dinner with family from out of town. So treated them to here since I've heard amazing things. I had the cowboy ribeye with crab oscar on top. Was amazing! Took my fiance here to propose. The food was very overpriced and there were many bones in our fish. "Wait honey, turn the other way so I can spit this mouthful of food out." I had also arranged with them several days ahead of time to bring out a plate that said "congratulations" on it when we ordered our dessert. It did not come that way. Instead they brought us a plate that said congrats on it with two after-dinner chocolates on it AFTER the dessert was eaten. We had actually already gotten out of our seats and had to sit back down. This is a fine dining establishment. Luxury dining room offers a panoramic view of Mobile Vat. Linens on table added to elegance. Crab cakes are works of art. Fried shrimp are delicately fried in egg white I am guessing and perfect. Once you bite into a shrimp you see a small puff of steam. Salads are cold crisp and fresh. Dry ice chocolate pallet cleanser is a sweet treat. Service was magnificently gracious and welcoming. The view from the 34th floor is awe inspiring. We have been twice now & have had a lovely time. We went for New Year's Eve on our 2nd trip. Our reservation was for 9:30 and we didn't get our table until closer to 10. It was probably due to the rain and diners not wanting to give up their table right away after finishing dinner. Plus the views are pretty fantastic; not to mention the live music. Our server was Stevie P who we have had the pleasure of serving us twice now. He is amazing, funny & attentive. He gets 5 stars, without a doubt. Our food was spectacular. I had the pecan crusted fish and it was a food celebration in my mouth. My husband had the filet and enjoyed every bite. Our 12 year old son had the kid's chicken fingers and they even managed to make that delicious! The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because of the drama that unfolded at the hostess stand. A server was upset & crying and the manager was telling her to just go home. She went back & forth to the restroom a couple of times & then the manager walked her to the elevators. That conversation should have taken place away from customers. I do hope the server is ok, though. It just took away from the ambience & attention to detail. Truly amazing food, a gorgeous view, and even better service! I decided to treat myself and ordered the Prime Ribeye. Quite honestly the best steak I have ever had. We were greeted by one of the best servers I have ever had (Miss Brooklyn) who never stumbled with our questions and made sure our drinks were never empty. Let me start by telling you this restaurant has the best view in all of Mobile! The restaurant is in a prime location on the 34th floor of the Trustmark tower, overlooking downtown Mobile, where you can see the river, the bay, the bayway, the top of almost every building downtown, and a great side view of the RSA Battlehouse tower. If you are afraid of heights, you may not want to sit by the window. Heights don't bother us and we were delighted with the view. They did have an aquarium playing on large screen televisions rather than having actual aquariums. Other than that, the decor and total atmosphere were outstanding. We went for our anniversary dinner. The service was a tad bit slow, but they were very busy and had only been open a couple of weeks. It wasn't so slow that it ruined our evening, and all of the servers were extremely friendly. We didn't mind. There were two floor managers checking on diners and the chef came out and was kind and humble. I really have no complaints about the service. Although all of the appetizers sounded amazing, we decided to start with a salad and a bowl of lobster bisque. My husband's bisque was rich, creamy and flavorful. My salad came with spinach, radicchio, bacon crumbles, pear and gorgonzola. It came on a plate assembled as a "rose". It was even more delicious than it looked! A cart was brought around with a chef's offering of a small sample of pork belly over grits. We were also brought a small scoop of lime sorbet prior to the arrival of our entrees to cleanse our palates. The menu mentioned several seafood dishes that sounded intriguing, but I had mahi for lunch. For our entrees, I ordered the filet, medium rare, and my husband ordered a ribeye, medium well (I know...I know). Both came with mashed garlic potatoes and green beans. My husband ordered his steak with black and blue horseradish cream and I ordered mine with crab meat and lobsters sauce. When our steaks were brought out, my steak was more medium well and his was more medium rare. Still, they had great flavor and were quality cuts of steak. I really wanted to sample the pre-dessert cheese platter with local cheeses, but I was just too stuffed. I did make a little room for dessert. We split the white chocolate and sun dried cherry bread pudding. It was good, but not the best around. I will opt for a different dessert next time. When our check was brought out, they brought an order of smoking bon-bons. These were rich and creamy, minty flavored chocolate bon-bons in a silver dish over dry ice. It was a nice touch. I ordered Rose and stopped with one glass, and my husband's Crown & Cokes were mixed perfectly, not too weak or too stout. They have a grand piano by the bar with a pianist playing jazz. There was also plenty of seating on the other side of the bar to enjoy drinks. I can definitely see us going to enjoy drinks and trying out some of those appetizers and the local cheese plate. Our total bill was about $185, before the tip. For the price, I honestly would have expected a little more when it comes to a couple of things, but I believe those bugs will be worked out in a couple more weeks. So, to preface, I never write reviews. If I am disgruntled with any form of service, I just quietly deal with it. However, I had a negative experience that I feel I must share, especially at my sons urging. And, the preface continued, I have dined on Dauphins on numerous occasion (from Lunch, Brunch, Dinner, and their oh-so-awesome Happy Hour) with nothing but excellent service, so this terrible experience was quite the mar on my view of Dauphins. Firstly, being greeted for Lunch around Noon. Adele the hostess, was lovely. Such a wonderful personality, we have spoken with her before and she is always a glowing individual. Unfortunately, she told us, we could not sit on the floor, proper, and had to sit on the bar area in order to Dine. We weren't even given an option to wait for a table to open up for us. We were a party of five, all of us over fifty, and we had to sit at the raised tables, our legs dangling all over the place. So, our server comes over, the bartender, I believe, to greet us. She was cordial enough, but very blunt with us. She refused to explain the ingredients to the soup du jour to my friends, my guests and did not even attempt to check in with us throughout the meal. The food was good, not fantastic, but good. Dauphins lunch is a bit more relaxed and quicker than the night-time dinner, which is to be expected from a restaurant in the heart of the Central Business District. Unfortunately, it too our food thirty-five minutes to come out, when it was slow on the floor (I looked, just to be sure, before I let myself be peeved). Even then, when we did finally get our food, the portions were smaller than usual. I kid you not, a side order of fries that we had gotten had only three fries...that was a dollar per fry... a fact we mentioned, but was ignored (unapologetically) by our server. Maybe she didn't hear us. Continuing on, the manager, or at least, the guy who I believe was the manager came by to "check on us." He didn't say a word to us as he slowly bussed out table, even going so far as to hold is arm out across the table for my friends to ladle is arms with plates......silently. Kind of awkward, especially when it is the managers job to check in on the tables. Didn't ask us anything. The strong silent type, I guess. To summarize: we come to Dauphins quite a lot. Love the service and the food, every time...until this last time. Maybe Dauphins was having an off day, but the last time we were there was disappointing enough that I felt I must say something (especially after we brought out-of town friends to be impressed and when the manager, the last goalkeeper to catch any mistakes, was stone-cold to us).The hostess was lovely, excepting the bad news and little options, and our server could have used a pick-me-up. Traveling through Mobile and just picked this restaurant on a whim. We went for a late lunch and had Remy as our server. Not only was the service excellent our meal was outstanding. Had a very nice wine list as well. The Keylime pie did not disappoint. We enjoyed our meal so well we went back for dinner. This place has a great atmosphere and a great view. We've been a few times now, and while our second visit fell a little short of our expectations, they keep their promises as far as customer satisfaction is concerned. We went back tonight and had the pleasure of Angelo's service. He was entertaining and easy to talk to. He had impeccable timing with each course and our drinks never found the bottom of the glass. Brian was our chef. He crushed our appetite with the venison carpaccio and the candied pork belly apps, salad, both lobster bisque and gumbo, rack of lamb and spiny tail lobster. Everything was plated with elegance and tasted amazing. 5 star award goes to the lobster though! Being from Maine, it's rare to find a great lobster down this way. Shame on us for thinking Mobile isn't big enough or cosmopolitan enough to have a place like Dauphin's. We had dinner there recently, on our first visit to the city, while passing through on a road trip. The food is excellent and the view is magnificent. Pascale was our server and we will ask for her again when we return. With the exception of touching the wine bottle to the glass when she poured (horrors! ;-), she was a real pro, and we're guessing the other servers are equally as well-trained. We also had a nice conversation with the chef. His au poivre steak preparation beats Morton's and Capital Grille's, and the lamb was also uniquely prepared. All in all, a very enjoyable dinner. Four $$$$ is right, but in this case, you get what you pay for. We'll be back. read more
