Just left this establishment. We were served over cooked, over priced chicken wings that were old and tough. Not appetizing at all. Also, server had trouble with the register and pretended she couldn't get the bill printed with all the items I ordered. She showed me an incomplete bill but after it was added correctly I tried to review it on the POS screen. The server quickly skipped forward to the card tap screen. I added a tip and asked to see my final bill, then discovered 18% gratuity was already added. The final tip was nearly 38%. As I explained the error, the two servers at the register became belligerent and told us to step out of the way. No offer to see a manager or apologize for the error. The food nor the service warranted the price paid. Place is run down and I was hoping the food was clean all the time I was eating. read more

Update: This place was closed for a little while because they were short staffed, they are also working on renewing their liquor license so no beer is being served at the moment. They still have live music and delicious food however! I love their BLT's, Meatball subs, and the Heartstopper burger is absolutely delicious and will satisfy even the biggest appetite. Their onion rings are so delicious, they remind me of Sonic onion rings which are my all time favorite. If you're not looking for beer and simply want a delicious meal then look no further. This place will satisfy. The place is clean and so are their bathrooms. A very chill place to have a nice ice cold beer and some yummy food. I absolutely love their French Dip Sandwich, it's delicious! Packed with roast beef, cheese and a delicious au jus sauce to dip it in. I also enjoy their Philly Cheesesteak and their Country Fried Chicken Sandwich. Both filling and tasty. When it comes to appetizers, you can't go wrong with their fried mushrooms. The service is good, the staff is friendly. Prices are comparable to others in the area. They do offer a variety of beers on tap, the selection changes periodically so it's a great place to try out something new. They also have beer on cans and bottles, as well as a nice selection of wines. This place has a very relaxed atmosphere, kid friendly. If you're hungry, give this place a try! Still our favorite in Cloudcroft. Service was MUCH better the last few times we've been here since the horrible way we were treated a few years ago. We even tried a few other places when up in CC, but they just didn't cut it. The only real complaint I have about this last visit, is that they claim that their potato chips are house made. Maybe they are, but they look and taste just like Lay's. When we first tried Dave's, when it was Dave's Pine Cone Cafe a few decades ago, they had house made chips, they looked nothing like these factory looking chips, and they were D-Licious!! Seems to me that they stopped making them for a time. I could be wrong. But now they've got these factory chips. Very disappointed. Having just finished a meal here I am surprised at how negative (and almost vicious!) some of these reviews are. I had a burger. It was fine! Family had a Reuben, a veggie Philly, and Alex's special. All hit the spot, except the Philly was served in a hot dog bun and not a hoagie. The onion rings were an excellent upgrade. I'd stop in again! Staff seemed attentive and pleasant, but maybe it was because we were dining at 3pm and it was slower. Shrug. I find it hard to believe it could be so bad as to put this place on the wrong side of a 3 star review given this is a burger and beer joint in a mountain town. read more

I went here as a solo traveler a few weeks ago, and I enjoyed it. The food was okay, nothing great but nothing bad, but the service was really good and they made me feel comfortable as a solo woman. I feel like the food has potential to be really good, it seems like a quality issue because the fries I had were greasy and soggy but tasted alright, and my burger was really watery and seemed like cheap ground beef. Poor Service Poor Food Poor Management Service received an 18% tip , then did not deliver my order, about 30 feet from where I was waiting on their outdoor porch. Food was horrendous. Bread on my "Ruben Hamburger " was soaked through so thoroughly I almost used a spoon to eat the slop! Management forgot (the second year in a row) to renew the liquor license. Update. 8/30/23 Noticed the sign outside Daves today. Music 6pm -8pm T/W & sometimes weekends. Nice!!!! Decided to drop in for dinner and drinks with new friends i meet up here on the mountain top. Solo guitarist, music was nice and relaxing. Enjoyed it. Thks for having music. Next, a dancing place in Cloudcroft, please. Staff were on top of it. Worst fries I've ever seen. Mushy and just jammed in a paper wrapper so they came out in a potato blob.

Food was good, but service was extremely poor. They seem extremely short staffed which isn't completely their fault. We had to go up to the counter to ask for our ticket, and when we asked about the 18% gratuity fee notice on the menu she said there wasn't one and the menu was wrong. Then proceeded to charge us 18% for the gratuity fee without letting us see the ticket before we paid. They have a very diverse menu and everything came out fine, but there's just better places to eat nearby with much better service. read more

My favorite thing to eat @ Dave's is their French Toast. The bread they use is delicious and has the proper amount of crispness when you bite into it, while maintain a fluffy center. Burgers and the Reuben are also excellent choices. Good selection of cold craft beers, great prices, offers breakfast lunch and dinner and they have an ice cream shop in the same indoor shopping center. read more

After a 10 mi hike this place hit the spot. They came thru with a cold beer and the most delicious well seasoned burger cooked to perfection. I ordered the Willy and it was delicious. I like that they leave it up to you to add mayo ketchup and mustard. The fries were good. My only gripe is they didn't have fried mushrooms which 8ve heard are delicious. They ran out so that says how popular they are. I enjoy the friendly service and hometown feel. You can't help but feel like family. Everyone in our group enjoyed their burgers. Will definitely stop again and hope I can get the mushrooms. read more

We ordered the fried asparagus, fried mushrooms, BBQ chicken burger, chile cheese burger, magic melt burger, Willie burger, garlic mushroom burger and the Billy Bob. Everything was so fresh and tastefully prepared! I have no complaints about this place. I am sad to see such few stars here. Got in to Cloudcroft on Sunday evening after a long day of driving. Checked into our room and got settled in. Before we knew it, it was almost 8 pm, and options are a bit limited in Cloudcroft on a Sunday night. Hit Dave's as it was closest, and we could not be happier with our decision. Bacon cheese burger for me with Chilli cheese tots on the side. My wife got a honey mustard chicken sandwich and fries. We split an order of cheese sticks. Service was quickn attentive and personable. Food was hot, flavorful, and reasonably priced. All in all a pleasant experience at the end of a long day. read more

Dave's Cafe was one of the eateries off highway 82 in Cloudcroft serving pub food. The place was busy for a weeknight which is generally a good sign. Our waiter mentioned the soda machine was down so there was no soda available. Not a big deal since I don't drink it these days. They were also out of nachos which was my first choice for dinner. I ended up ordering a couple of appetizers: fried asparagus and fried pickles for the table to share. I ordered the garlic parmasean wings and a lemonade. Other drinks were still available and they had a full bar as well. The kitchen was cranking out food in a very efficient manner and often times faster than what the waiter can handle. Don't expect much when it comes to silverware and plates. It's not fine dining here and most items were served in plastic containers with disposable utensils. Service was okay as our drinks were refilled and we got to-go containers for our leftovers. Credit cards are accepted and you pay at the counter. What I find a little irritating is the tipping percentages on their Square payment system are 20%, 25%, and 30%. read more

Dave's is a solid cafe any day of the week. They are known for their burgers, specifically the green chili cheese burger, and rightfully so! But most of the time I get tacos, loaded nachos, or--the wings! YES! The wings are dialed in, and not to be skipped. Lynn, the woman behind the bar, guarantees a rotating tap and tries hard to keep a wide variety of local and regional brews, and always has at least 10 to 15 choices available. I especially appreciate that she routinely stocks porters and stouts, plus, she guarantees a cider of some kind. And her selections are not experimental! No! She knows what her customers like and makes sure it's available. I eat at Dave's as often as possible, and I'm always greeted by a smile and a bit of carefree banter. Can't get enough! read more

My first visit to Dave's Cafe was in late July. I drove into town late in the afternoon and sat at the bar where I had a Patty Melt and a stout beer. Both were ok, although the burger had that frozen patty taste, but it was a decent meal in a quiet place. Ha. I suggested this place hoping it would be quieter than the brewpub down the street where we had been the night before and badly disappointed. The Cafe was quiet, but getting seated, having our order taken, and having someone bring us our beers took much longer than usual. It was a Saturday afternoon. Since we wanted alcohol, we could not sit in the ice cream room across the hall. We sat at a table for six and were told we could be asked to move if a group larger than three came in. We agreed to that. The problem really began when my gluten-intolerant friend ordered a dish she was told was gluten free, but then she got the dish and it had fried tortilla chips, which she can't have. Back to the kitchen that food went, and more waiting ensued. Two of us were already done with our burgers when her platter finally arrived. We never were asked for refills. Service was below par. We ended up spending OVER TWO HOURS for our meal! Then, when we paid by credit card, the screen defaulted to 20%, 25% and 30% tip. I took offense to that and tipped my customized tip. Our experience did not merit even a 15% tip. read more

Second visit, the waitress slapped the menu on the bar next to me after I explained that I wanted what I had the last time. Apparently what I had the first time was incorrect. Came in with high hopes for some local grub and relaxed ambiance. Sat at the bar for lunch and waited and waited for staff to take our order. She was too busy chatting up with ppl at the end. We let them know we had to be on our way soon and was told our food would 'probably' be ready-if not they would make it to go. We've been here over 45 mins and were just told "it's almost done". How long does It take to make a chicken and a chicken fried steak sandwich? It wasn't busy, there were open tables and bar seats. Food was decent when we finally got it. Had to ask 2x for a to-go. Our waitress was amazing but the female manager was EXTREMELY rude and unprofessional. The food came out overly greasy and was just not all that great. Reading some of the reviews, seems like the manager has a problem being polite and professional. Maybe she needs to find a job that doesn't deal with the general public. We went here to get lunch because our bbq place was closed on Thursday, and we were hungry. My partner and I both ordered the croissant. I had it with turkey, he with roast beef. It wasn't much to write home about, but we were hungry. The fries were not cooked through, so i bit into a couple of raw ones. Yikes. Service was ok. We ordered to go and it was ready in 15 minutes. By that time, our friends who had arrived there before us and sat at a table, didn't even have their drinks. Yikes. the hallway to the register could use more light. Great sandwiches and burgers. Hours are open longer for a sleepy mountain town. The ambiance was casual and clean.

We ordered the green chile burger and homemade plain fries and a half Charlie salad--the food was really excellent, the prices reasonable )especially compared to other restaurants in Cloudcroft!) and the service was great! The half salad (which was a large plate!) had pecans, apples, peppers, fresh greens, real bacon, flavorful tomatoes, and cranberries--full of vegetables! The burger was perfectly cooked and served on a brioche bun. Because the restaurant is separated on partitioned rooms it's not too loud. We got there before the lunch crush. Wish we'd discovered Dave's at the beginning of our trip instead of the end! read more

Terrible service. 3 of 4 orders were completely wrong. Waitress had said they could make a chicken cheesesteak which came out as beef. Waitress got the manager who said too bad. When we asked for a menu (well over 2 hours before closing) to order something else we were told the kitchen is closed. Manager wanted us to pay for all the wrong orders too. So we left. Incompetent service and beyond rude manager lady. Manager lady is possibly racist as they did this to the only non-white person in our group. 0 stars if I could. read more
