As I was getting close to trading in my 2013 BMW X5 I damaged the tailgate. I brought the car to Dave's for an estimate. I was told immediately not to waste my money on repairs because, in his opinion, the car dealer would likely give me the same amount on my trade-in with our without the repairs. My parking garage damaged my brand new Audi A5 and upon taking responsibility recommended Dave's for the repair. I drove to the shop first thing in the morning and met with Richard, Jr who was sympathetic, professional, and thorough in his evaluation and analysis of what needed to be done to correct the damage. I asked a lot of questions and explained how anal I was about perfection and without losing patience Richard, Jr showed me around the shop, showed me the paint room where he explained how he mixed the paint to match the specific color code of the car, and showed me exactly what he would do and where on my car. He also stated that he was 100 percent family owned and that only he and his father, Richard, Sr, were the only two who worked on the cars. Between my positive meeting, the positive Yelp reviews, and the fact that they have been in business since 1929 I decided to proceed. I later spoke with Richard, Sr who told me I could bring my car in right away and that the job would only take two days. I dropped it off at 6am on a Wednesday and he called Friday morning stating I could pick it up that afternoon. I was EXTREMELY HAPPY with the results! Not only had the car been thoroughly washed inside and out, but the repair was PERFECT...like the damage had never occurred! Richard, Jr showed me everything in the sunlight to ensure I was satisfied and explained how to care for my car in the week that followed. I almost never write reviews, but I am so pleased with the outcome and the professionalism here I felt it was necessary and a great way to say "thank you." read more

He took the time to explain exactly what he would be doing to repair the rear passenger side panel of my car and then returned it in excellent condition including a perfect match to my tungsten metallic paint. Weirdly, I'm glad we had a reason to come here, otherwise we would never have know what a gem was located around the corner. To my partner, the shop looked fancy, and he assumed that any body shop in Manhattan would be a recipe for an expensive disaster, especially after having a really shitty experience at the Toyota dealership down the street a few months prior. But after getting towed, resulting in damage to the underside of my vehicle, I needed a repair within three days, in time to take my car on a road trip out of town. So down to Dave's it was, where they were welcoming, clean, communicative, and had a good sense of humor. They researched the parts options given my time constraints and covid-related limitations on availability, then re-secured the under-cladding, and charged a fair price. I felt really great driving away, and 2 months and a thousand miles later, the work has held up perfectly. read more

This is the most amazing repair shop in Manhattan. It's hard to believe that multigenerational family run repair shops are still around. They do great work at a reasonable fee and don't try to gouge you. I had bumper problem with my Subaru. They fixed it for an absurdly low rate and didn't try to push additional work (which it needs but wasn't critical on a used car). The business has been around for three generations and is still run by father and son who are joy to talk to. This may well be the only such operation in midtown Manhattan. They do things old school but it's clear from the numerous expensive cars in the shop (as well as less expensive cars) that they do great work. They're definitely a major find. read more

Stay AWAY! did some body work on my car which was 6 months old and a did a real botch job. They are difficult people to deal with and would not stand behind the quality of their work. He actually told me not to look at the door too carefully when i get into my car then i wouldn't notice. The paint finish looked TERRIBLE. Their price was not cheap to begin with and I ended up having to pay more money take it to another body shop to correct their work. Surprising that they don't take pride in the quality of the work and don't seem to be looking for repeat business. be warned!!! read more

I really like these guys. They are professional and knowledgeable with excellent judgment. They have been in the auto body business for years and know the business well and have given me the best advice on my car repairs. I have been coming to them for a number of years with my now beat up Subaru Forester. They have repaired lots of parking lot damages and now, most recently, sunroof leakage. (Floods in the interior of your car are not fun!) They work quickly and efficiently with great results. I highly recommend them. read more

I've had two positive experiences with getting my car fixed at Dave's, but he left me hanging this time. Called up over a week prior to get part of my side view mirror replaced. Explained in length what I needed and the parts that I had, he researched it online for a bit, and then was told to bring in the car on a Monday morning. After driving up there and him taking a look at the parts, he said it was a bigger job than originally thought and could not take me in. "Sorry, call back and maybe we can take you in on a Friday". This is an update to a review I posted in 2013. Several months ago, I brought my 2015 GTI to Dave's after a clueless driver nailed my driver's side fender and front door. Both were replaced, as well as a number of assorted trim pieces. Dave's worked with my insurance company to make sure that he was able to use new (rather than used) parts. I'm entirely happy with the repair, and I'm pretty particular about the quality of auto repairs. In addition, they got the job done in under two weeks. I hope I never need their services again, but should I encounter another driver who's not watching where they're going, I'd bring my car to Dave's again without hesitation. read more

Have brought my car there several times over the years. EACH time delighted (6 repairs in the past 10 years) in their repairs. Kinda wish some folks would notice that I DO stop for red lights. This trip it was different, I had some customization done to my car. Again I am thrilled with the look and functionality of the work. This is small business at its best. Dave and his son Richard manage and do virtually all of the work. Yes, when really busy they have some help, but they do "quality control" to make sure THEIR high standards (way higher than mine) are met. Sometimes they are jammed, it's worth the wait. Don't go to the insurance company place - done that once, shoddy & quickie work. Prices are fair, they handle your insurance company paperwork and WORK WITH the "adjuster" to find and fix "hidden" damage. That won't happen at the "company store".
