Terrible shop ... took my care there to get repaired from a theft. They were supposed to check and inspect the vehicle... it was not done . parts put on the car are are old parts from a junk yard. Quite possibly the WORST customer service I've received in my ENTIRE life!!! I stopped by Manhattan Auto Care seeking an estimate to have my rims repaired and was met by a surly ankle-biter named Richard Gallo. He quoted me $160 per wheel, which I was ready to accept. However, since the $640 would be coming out of my own pocket, I inquired if he could do the job for $150 per wheel. Instead of saying no, he barked, "I'm not doing it!" and stomped away like a toddler. I assume Gallo's not as petulant when bilking insurance companies, but he appears to have nothing but contempt for potential customers. DO NOT waste your time and money patronizing this business!!! Update: After leaving Manhattan Auto Care, I took my car to Hunts Point where they fixed my rims for only $250, saving me almost $400 bucks! I brought in my vehicle for a body damage estimate per directions from my insurance carrier. Prior to the inspection and quote of my damage, the gentleman who serviced me asked when I would like them to take care of the body work. The place is a little office but part of a parking lot and I was a bit skeptical of the type of work they will perform. After a lengthy discussion, I said my preference is to use another mechanic for body work and after I said that the gentleman became ver unprofessional and short. During the discussion, the gentleman asked me if I had a deductible. After stating I have a $1,000 deductible, the gentleman said that the cost will certainly exceed $1,000, but after I refused to use them for body work, the quote that they sent my insurance company was conveniently under $1,000. My car was vandalized while parked in Manhattan. Dropped off the car and it looks brand new. They even washed the car!

Had squeaky brakes and a brake warning light, altho I had them checked out somewhere else just a few weeks ago and told there was no problem. Owner Richard warned me that the charge would be $110 just to look at it, even if nothing was wrong. He came outside and after eyeballing my tires, he said in his experience based on my story, it's dirty brakes and if he got his guys to do diagnostics, he'd have to charge me $110 and probably end up telling me there's nothing to fix. He then went inside to get something and on a rainy day sprayed some brake cleaner on all 4 of my brakes for free. Wouldn't take a tip. Said, "it's not the way I live my life". We should all live life so generously. On my drive home, there was no brake warning light. For those reviews about him being gruff, he's a retired police Lieutenant, so probably has earned the right to expect to be treated with respect. read more

Where to start... After a nice golf outing followed by a lovely trip visiting family in Long Island, we noticed that someone had sideswiped our car, which actually, was a borrowed car from our in-laws. Yikes. There was an obvious scratch on the side of the car and also a dent in the front as well. It just so happened that my in-laws were also preparing to trade the car in for a newer model that week. Panicked set in instantly when we discovered the very noticeable damage to the car and my next (panicked) call was to Manhattan AutoCare. The receptionist was so incredibly nice, which is rare in Manhattan especially when temperatures exceed 85 degrees, and explained that I should probably just bring the car in now if I was able. When I actually got to the office, Richard (the owner) came out to inspect the car and while I waited to hear the exorbitant estimate, I was surprised to receive an estimate that was actually affordable. I had to hug him to not break out in tears. I would also like to note that this is not an exaggeration, at all. Richard and his team fixed the Subaru that day, within hours, detailed the car and actually suggested an option that would be less expensive as it related to the repairs. When I tell you that the car looked good as new, believe me. I was so incredibly grateful that I had to send lunch. They truly are a really nice group of people and I'm glad that we have a place in the neighborhood that does quality work without breaking wallets, with an awesome attitude. We had a repair that was coming through our insurance company; our insurer sent a list of places where we could get the repair done, and Manhattan Auto Care was the closest place on the list and seemed solid enough. Well, my experience was even better than "solid enough". It was easy, honest, straightforward, and quick -- and an excellent job on the repair itself. Further, our insurer screwed up a bit of the business / payment / red tape part of this process, but Richard, the owner/manager of the shop who I dealt with directly, masked-up but safely face-to-face, handled it with ease and understanding. I would recommend Manhattan Auto Care on Delancey Street to anyone and will be returning to them for our auto care needs. I might add that I grew up in a midwestern town where my family had a friendly mechanic down the street whose shop handled all of our auto needs. My parents have known "Ken" for 40 years -- he was our go-to automotive savior and, as my octogenarian parents are still driving and are too stubborn for new cars, they therefore still make frequent trips to Ken's shop.
