Dave's Downtown is great. Huge selection of food. I mainly hit the grill end when I'm there. I'm not a huge tuna fan but every once in a while a tuna melt just sounds like it's gonna hit the spot, and it does. I'm no health nut so I order extra cheese on it and love that they don't charge any extra. What I get is a delicious cheesy tuna mess, and that's just how I like it. Sometimes I just get a plain grilled cheese (which I had always said I would never order in a restaurant) and again they are more than willing to put extra cheese on it for me. One of my mottos is you can never have too much cheese and Dave must agree with me. They also have really good cookies. I like the M&M ones, especially when I have time to look through them and find one that's kind of gooey in the middle. Like I said, this isn't health food but it sure is delicious! It's always super busy during the lunch hour, and I'm guessing you'd have to get there before noon to get a table. I always took mine to go. Even though it's to order they are quick and efficient, unlike some other places in the skyway system they seem to realize that most of their customers are on at least somewhat of a time crunch, and it never seems to be a problem. read more

Dave's Downtown is a Minneapolis skyway restaurant that survived the ridiculous COVID "epidemic". That says a lot considering so many have closed their doors . . . but I have more to add. Today I ordered the Rueben with a bowl of wild rice soup. I waited longer than the others around me. The guy taking orders at the grill ("Dave"???) was paying attention and resolved the issue in a heartbeat. When I got to the counter to pay he gave the cashier the "high sign" that I should get a free lunch! WOW! I only waited about 5 minutes--nothing out of the ordinary for most places, but this place isn't ordinary. I've been coming to this place for about 5 years. They ALWAYS have great food and great service. The deserts are crazy good (got the butterscotch cookie today, yummmmmmy). I could say more but it would all be fantastic and I've made my point. I work in the same building as Dave's Downtown, so I find myself here for lunch about once a week, or so. It has gotten to the point where I crave one of their wraps fortnightly. My favorite (that keeps me coming back) is the chicken tender wrap, with honey mustard dressing. It's simple, but insanely delicious. A big wrap is around $8, and comes with a generous portion of kettle chips, or a cup of fruit, and a pickle. I've also had their salad bar (which always looks nice and fresh), their wild rice soup (very good soup, but overpriced for a cup and a tiny sliver of bread), and their breakfast burrito, which was huge and stuffed with all the best breakfast fixins (sausage, peppers, onions, cheese & hashbrowns). Finally, the staff is very friendly, and VERY fast. Its common to see a line nearly out the door during lunch hour, but the line moves quickly. Not real sure how this place operates so efficiently but between the team, the regulars, and the other patrons we had our food super fast with plenty of room to sit and eat. This was great for a speedy lunch. There was an intimidatingly long line, but it moved oretty rapidly. We ordered from the deli since we were short on time, but I would love to check out their grill options since the burgers and chicken sandwiches looked great. My fiance and I ordered wraps. I had the buffalo chicken wrap and she had a pesto chicken wrap. The chicken in both was cooked perfectly and all white meat. The flavors, particularly on the pwsto wrap, were outstanding. The dessert bar had plenty of enticing options. We bought a giant chocolate chip cookie, which was perfectly sweet and soft. Unfortunately, quick does not always mean healthy, but it does mean cheap. Not good enough! Dave's has made the top of my list. It's not gourmet, but food is fast, fresh, and menu fits my lunch budget. I've been twice for their chicken wraps. Again, nothing fancy and basic ingredients, but very filling. And, I appreciate a side of fruit or fries to choose from. Full salad bar, sammies, wraps, large salads, soups, burgers, full meal plates, and desserts. This place is boring sandwiches, wraps, basic salads- and I'm okay with that. They have a wrap with chicken tenders in it that I should stay away from (both for health reasons and because chicken tenders should graduate with you in the sixth grade)- but damn, it's good. Add in a side of their crispy kettle chips and I'm a happy camper. Also probably dozing off at my cubicle with a food baby around 1:30, because you definitely get a bang for your buck and of course I eat it all. The best part about this place is the service. I don't know if the employees are really that hyped to be making me a wrap, but sometimes I just want to leave the cash register with a fist pump of excitement they're so happy. Woo! read more

Super friendly folks, peanut butter rice krispy treats that are amazing and addicting, and some good cheap lunch options. I had a couple sandwiches, which were pretty standard, and a mushroom swiss burger with fries which was standard as well. The specials were above average, I had some four cheese pasta and the open faced turkey and both were great. The office I worked at several years ago in Richfield had a cafeteria that served made-to-order breakfast, sandwiches, and wraps (among other things). I recall loving it because it was consistently good, no matter what I ordered. And sometimes I just want a Chicken Bacon Ranch wrap and fries, which seems like a simple thing but is yet hard to find elsewhere. Shortly after taking a job downtown a coworker held our monthly team lunch at Dave's, and I knew right away I'd found my downtown replacement for that cafeteria, and then some. The food is not going to win any culinary awards and foodies may scoff at it, but I find it delicious and clutch when I have a craving for a satisfying lunch meal. You can get basically any kind of wrap, sandwich, or burger. (There is also a salad bar, if that's your thing). My personal favorites at Dave's are the Chicken Bacon Ranch Wrap and the Mushroom Swiss Chicken, both with fries (which are hot, crispy, and very tasty). The service is quick and friendly. It's a longer walk from my office to Dave's than a lot of other places, but the experience is so pleasant and hassle free that it's worth it (and the longer walk is good considering Dave's generous portion sizes). I've only eaten breakfast at McKenna's twice and both times it was awesome. The food isn't high under or gourmet, but my sunnyside up eggs, hash browns, 5 strips of bacon, english muffin and cup of coffee... all for $5.50, really hit the spot. This is the breakfast special and it is served every day until 10am. That is awesome. The service was always quick and after my first visit, the cashier already remembered my name, which I thought was pretty impressive. Like I said, not gourmet, but a much cheaper alternative if you don't want to fork over the dough for something like Key's. I'm a big fan of MyKenna's. read more

Skyway food is all the same. But I am a big fan of Mykenna's. I have eaten breakfast there and it is really good for the price. But we usually go for lunch. They have a salad bar, a sandwich station including wraps (try the Asian chicken), a dinner style station (turkey sandwich is good) and a grill with daily specials. During lent they have really good fish and chips on Fridays. And if you are pregnant (my lunch companion not me) you get a free milk. Cashier told the story of how the owner has 9 kids and a soft spot in him for pregnant women. Definitely a great and affordable lunch. read more

I've been back several times since the discovery phase and I have to say, I'm now a fan of Dave's. It's very affordable for downtown, especially if you get a water cup instead of a soda, etc., and there are many alternating and diverse aspects of the menu; it's fantastic. I wish I'd tried this place earlier. It can get insanely busy in there until after 1pm, but after that it gets easier to find a seat. I stopped here for lunch with my team from work. I had heard of this place, but had no idea it was in the AT&T building in downtown Minneapolis (in the skyway). The options are plentiful on the menu and it actually made deciding what to eat a little challenging. I ended up getting the grilled special for the day, which was a chicken sandwich with melted cheese and bacon (I forget the actual name of the sandwich), it came with fries and I grabbed a Vitamin water to drink. Walked away for under $10, which isn't bad for lunch in downtown Minneapolis. The sandwich wasn't bad and it wasn't amazing either. The chicken was cooked well, but didn't have a whole lot of flavor. The bacon helped a little, but I wasn't overly impressed with what I got. The fries were good, which I think would be hard to screw up anyways. A coworker got an Asian inspired salad which she mentioned was great and someone else got a wrap. Maybe I'll try those instead the next time I visit. Overall, good place to grab a quick lunch. I gave 3 stars because of my personal experience with what I ordered; I'll have to give it a second chance. read more

Dave's Downtown (formerly Mykenna's) is a great stop for breakfast and lunch amongst the Habitrail known as the downtown Minneapolis skyway system. They have a really delicious salad bar, which is a huge draw for me because sometimes I just want a gigantic salad for lunch. All of the ingredients were fresh, and I was full for the rest of the day (which rarely happens when I get a salad). The staff is friendly, and it seems like they have a lot of fun which adds a lighthearted feel to the restaurant. It feels very welcoming. This is a great downtown staple for when you're in a hurry. The owner, Dave, is behind the counter himself, working hard, and I love that. It can be a bit over priced (I payed $4 for three egg whites with cheddar cheese this morning), but has great values too. Granted, if you are looking for something that is creative or tickles your taste-buds, this is probably not the place. That said, for a quick lunch you can't go wrong. Everything is always hot, has good flavor and seems to be made with fresh ingredients. Have done breakfast here a couple times and found they have both good breakfast sandwiches and make a perfect, sunny-side up egg. If you need an afternoon treat, nothing beats a warm, M&M cookie from Dave's! Overall, I would recommend Dave's to downtown workers. Probably not the place you go out of your way to eat at but a restaurant where you never go wrong. read more

First, Dave is literally the nicest human being on the planet. If you disagree, you've never met him. And you're wrong. Seriously, every time I have spoken with him, it brightens my day. The food: sprouts! They have sprouts on their sandwiches, and I love that! The bread is delicious, and this is THE lunch place if you know you're having a busy-won't-have-time-for-dinner kind of day. There are separate lines for each type of item so make sure you're in the right one (I waited in the grill line for a minute or so before I realised). It also helps to look online ahead of time and decide what you want so you're not holding up all the hungry office workers behind you. For just over $8 after tax, I got a huge chicken Ceasar stuffed wrap and in-house potato chips. Lots of high quality food for a reasonable price. The large amount of people here at 11:45 on Friday tells me that I am not the only one who realizes how good the food is. I had the honey mustard chicken sandwich on an onion bun and really enjoyed my meal. However, on my most recent trip, I got their French Dip, which was fantastic. Dave's (used to be McKenna's) is a great skyway stop to grab a bite. You likely won't find another place like this in the skyway. When you've got an appetite in the skyway, your choices aren't necessarily limited, but you usually have to go somewhere that only serves something specific like Subway, Bruegger's Bagels, a pizza place or a spot that only serves ethnic cuisine. Dave's on the other hand is quite the contrary which is the best thing about the place, it offers the gift of choice, and plenty of it. It's a much larger setting compared to all of the other tiny skyway joints. Most of their kitchen is open and exposed to the rest of the restaurant so you can step up and see how your food is being cooked and handled, I respect a kitchen that has nothing to hide from its customers. I have yet to find a better salad bar anywhere in the skyway but beware cottage cheese lovers they charge by the pound. The burgers (and fries/onion rings) are phenomenal, the breakfast is great, and the baked goods are well above par. They have daily homemade specials such as turkey and gravy, chicken penne pasta, tater tot hot dish, and lasagna. They serve taco salads in a giant tortilla bowl, they've got all sorts of house soups and salads as well if you don't want to go through the salad bar. Their setup for sandwich wraps is great! They have endless choices down to the type of tortilla you want it wrapped in (corn, flour, tomato, wheat, spinach, etc.) I've honestly never had anything here that I didn't like and I've had just about everything, been a regular for six years and running, it's like Cheers... everybody knows my name at Dave's. If you've never been, and you're anywhere near the AT&T tower... you've got to stop in. read more

This is like a cafeteria setting. You order breakfast with the cashier. And then wait for your number to be called. The cashier was very nice. We did not hear our number called and they brought the food to us. The only drawback was it they serve breakfast in these Styrofoam/cardboard containers lined with the piece of paper. So your eegs kind of stuck to the paper. They also had a very well-stocked salad bar. We had a hard time finding the place. And eventually learned it was on the second floor of the Oracle building. read more
