There was once a British cooking show called the Two Fat Ladies. I'll never forget they made a dish called "Bubbles and Squeak." I loved the name! Yesterday, after more than twenty five years, I had the dish at Dave's High Desert Grill as we watched John's favorite soccer (football) team, New Castle United win 5-1. It was fun and delicious! Glazed carrots with clove, potatoes mashed with Brussels sprouts and braised short ribs. You may also choose to have sausages. They have a great menu and the prices are very reasonable. Went for Sunday brunch. Our server did the best he could he seemed to have tables inside and out and was rushing around like crazy. I have no problems with the service as I could seem him working his butt off. My daughter ordered the shrimp and grits. The grits had a good texture and I have eaten grits all over the south however smothering the top of grits with cheese doesn't make cheesy grits. The shrimp were small and needed seasoning. An ok dish but not spectacular. I ordered the bangers and bible and squeak. Bubble and squeak was good a nice presentation in patties or cakes, sadly there were a little cold and could have been amazing if had been crispy on the outside. The bangers were true English bangers and they made my UK heart happy. What this dish needed was fried egg on top. I will be back and I hope things improve for the waitstaff so they are not running crazy. The meals we had were good not excellent and the menu looks interesting so I want to try more. read more

Just finding the front entrance was a challenge, with all the (unused ) patio seating in front with no on ious way through the enclosing fence. When we found the entrance to the side, nobody seated us until we walked a couple waiting to go customers to the bar. Those two to go customers were complaining about the beer selection, and wouldn't say much about the food they were picking up. We ordered drinks and it took awhile, even though there were very few patrons in the place, and lots of staff twiddling their thumbs. My wife's drink was mostly sour grapefruit, and my chocolate martini was too sweet. Neither drink was very balanced in flavor. So we stopped there, left an 80 cent tip, and walked to the Mexican restaurant across the parking lot to eat. Don't go. It isn't worth it. read more

Finally made it back here with a few friends, and I am very happy to report that we had a wonderful experience. It was happy hour and they have nice specials at a good price. They also have $6 house wine and a nice pour at that. The Sav Blanc was delicious. Everyone ordered something different and they loved the food. The manager came by to say 'thanks for being here'. I enjoyed my first time eating at this new location in early May for Saturday brunch. It is located off Eubank and Spain in a quiet, attractive shopping center. Dave the owner greeted us when we walked in and sat us outside. We were happy to find out that they accommodate dogs. We sat on their patio w our dog and it is a covered patio, so that particular morning it felt pretty chilly, but we put on some sweatshirts and enjoyed ourselves. I'm sure the patio will be a perfect place to sit this Summer. Our server was attentive and support staff was also helpful. I absolutely loved my Huevos rancheros - it was made with perfectly cooked (over medium) eggs on blue corn tortillas (my favorite) then topped with chile and cheese. For a side you have a bread option, I chose the griddle cakes which were delicious, and plenty to share w my family. read more

This restaurant is a solid place for a good meal. We shared the biscuits and gravy with two added eggs. The serving was huge! Enough for the both of us. The flavor was spot on. The biscuits could have been a little fluffier. I feel like they probably use day olds for this dish. We couldn't leave without the huge delicious chocolate cake slice. Claudia, our server, made the meal extra special with her attention and uplifting demeanor. It was our second meal at Dave's and won't be our last. read more

What an absolute abismal failure! From the manager to the busser rolling silverware, everyone is lazy and incompetent. Dave's high desert grill is consistently understaffed and the little staff they do have, appear to have better things to do than serve the customers. The food is generic and more than once we have had to wait for a table, "because the kitchen is behind" and full disclosure there were plenty of empty tables available. The manager walks around the restaurant with a clueless look on her face, preforming minimal tasks and her staff absolutely follow suit. I would understand if this was a one off occurrence but unfortunately this is usual for Dave's. We have also been to the valley grill and the service is much better. Looks like a longer drive is worth it for a better overall experience. Hope this helps someone make a decision on where to spend their hard earned money. read more

This is not a cliche, stereotypical NM grill. It's fresh and imaginative. The menu is full service and as broad as it is deep. Everyone should be able to find there next new favorite here. I came in for brunch. I had the salmon scramble and whiskey banana walnut pancakes with vanilla ice cream. The scramble was excellent. Nothing overcooked and both the salmon and the artichoke were the main flavor features of the dish. The pancakes were more than I could finish, being a full dish on their own. They were fluffy, rich and satisfying. The owner (Dave) was at the store attending carefully to his staff and patrons. He's friendly and personable. I believe his culinary passion and experience is demonstrated in the quality food prepared and served by his quality staff. I highly recommend Dave's grill. We are repeat visitors to Dave's Valley Grill and have left five star reviews of our meals there, including the peach cobbler and the pear/brie salad. So good! That said, the training wheels are still on its new Heights sibling, and may need to stay for a few more weeks. The menu is the same, but the surge of visitors and climate challenges (there's no good way to block the outside when people enter/exit so it was freezing when we visited) keep it from a true five star experience. We didn't wait too long to be seated, and got one of the coveted booths in the back, so it started strong. But we waited a good 15 minutes before our waiter took our order and it was (as mentioned earlier) freezing in the restaurant. We ordered breakfast and the entrees came out separately, so my lovely husband waited with his biscuits and gravy getting increasingly chilly while we waited for my lobster Benedict. The hollandaise sauce was a bit thick and more like gravy than true hollandaise. I've always loved everything else I've ordered at Dave's Valley Grill so not sure if this was a new opening casualty or I just don't care for their Benedict. Stay tuned... Overall, we know these bumps in the road should get ironed out in the near future and look forward to updating to a five star review later in 2023. read more

As someone who used to frequent The Barley Room, I was sad to see it go. However, Dave's new place is very fresh and updated with a new bar top, art, and decor. The chosen colors create a very cozy vibe. We had tomato bisque and fish tacos with cole slaw. Everything was delicious. Service was very good, too. The only change I'd recommend is closing off the kitchen. It was bright and loud - as it should be, but spilled into the bar area and was very distracting. Can't wait to go for brunch. read more

Came for the Fish and Chips HH special worth the $12 all Day (even though old pic shows a $10 price) Bidenomics happens. Got some nostalgia from back when it was the Barley Room. Lots of good times back then. Only thing I'd do different is put a big OPEN neon sign in the window. Almost didn't make the walk to the front door due to hiw dark it looked inside and the patio chairs piled up, I get its winter. Maybe turn patio lights on even during the day? Delicious food in an appealing environment at a great location with excellent staff. My party of three ordered brunch. My daughter ordered French toast. My wife ordered the smoked salmon scramble and I had ham, eggs, skillet potatoes and griddle cakes. Our meals were served piping hot and delicious by amazing server. On my first visit I had meat loaf. Itwas so good and a very tasty gravy. Our 2nd visit here, we had fish and chips. They are very tasty. The breading was nice and crispy and the fish was tender. Service was a little slow but I wasn't in a rush. A 3rd visit is in our future. read more

Early on a Monday and the group of ladies were setting in I arrived and was promptly seated. The staff managed the rest of my dinning time with yard history of jugglers everyone was cooperating. We were there on Easter Sunday. The place was busy. Ambiance was family friendly place. We had chips and pretzel for app. They were delicious. I had the chorizo burger with green chili sauce. I was expecting it to come out in a bun, but it was wrapped in tortilla, so I had to use fork and knife to eat it. It was ok, the meat was well done, and I prefer medium rare, so it was over cooked for me. Had a side onion rings, they were good. My son had the fish tacos with fries. Both were really good. Next time I would get fish taco. Our server was really good. He was very attentive and saw to it that our water glass was never half empty. He made sure that we were happy with what we have, wished I had asked him for his name. Will go back next time. read more
