The 2 stars are very much hard to give. I've been to Dave's Valley Grill multiple times and left so happy. However, this new location isn't at all the same. The place smelled like sewer both times I've been. The hot wings and turkey plate were very disappointing. The soups too. And my waitress smelled so strongly of cigarette smoke that every time she came to the table I had to hold my breath. It really ruined the experience. I really really like the valley restaurant and Dave is so good at customer service! I hope it improves here. read more

My husband and I went to Dave's High Desert Grill today.There was no wait but they said they could not seat us until a table opened up. There were five tables some that sat five people and some that could be used for a larger party. When asked why we could not be seated the General Manager stated we had to wait for a smaller table, because the other tables were being held for larger parties. When no larger parties were even there. So I spoke with Dave and he agrred to seat us at a table for five people. When he did that the General Manager made it very clear she was angry with him for seating us. When we had our lunch no big parties arrived and the tables sat empty. I was not happy about this due to the fact that we were there ready to be sat and she refused because the other tables sat five or more. Unacceptable. If we go back and this happens again we will walk out and never return. They had plenty of wait staff, bussers, plus Dave and HER. She wanted us to wait for a smaller table when no one else was waiting. Take care of the customers that are present and not for the ones that may or may not showup. read more

The food was fresh and delicious. Happy hour is a great deal, 3-6pm. The servers (Leanna was our server :) ) are very friendly and the food comes out quickly. Dave's has a happy hour. A friend and I have gone around once a week for a few months. It was nice - nice enough we kept returning very regularly. Sadly, as of today, their service has taken a nose dive: It's not the staff, but the "new rules". We went in today and our server said there were "new rules" that mean they can't make potato skins without scallions sprinkled on top. Our server double-checked with the manager for us: As of now, they'll make no substitutions. At all. We order without scallions because of a food allergy. It's not like we're looking to replace potatoes with asparagus. It's a stupidly easy substitution and it's because of an allergy. It's a pretty minimal customer service request not to add scallions to an app. And, for the record, we aren't talking about a super inexpensive happy hour either - we typically pay around 40 dollars for the 2 of us to eat, with 1 beer each: Not exactly the kind of prices that justify this lack of service. All I can say is that we won't be going back. read more

Today we visited this restaurant for the first time, and we were greatly surprised, service was awesome,food was delicious, prices were fair and portions were large. I got the prime rib dip and it was delicious and the pretzel with cheese was huge. Very clean place and we received service that seems so hard to find anymore. Too bad zero stars is not an option. Worst meal I have ever had in Albuquerque. Seriously everything was gross. I question whether the good reviews for this place are from people who have never dined out or who have been eating dog food their whole lives. Artichoke dip was just cream cheese or sour cream and artichokes. Turkey sandwich was a couple big chunks of dried out gross turkey. Looked like it was leftover from last thanksgiving (it's July). Side of mash potatoes with salmon was slathered in beef gravy. Request for a replacement side never came. Who puts meat gravy on mashed potatoes on an obviously meat free meal? We ran out of water and could not ever get a refill. I really don't ever care about bad service, but a refill of water is not that hard to do. Never been so thirsty during a meal. Also not hard to bring the promised sides that never came. I have never in my life left no tip until today. Disgusting food plus terrible service. They are lucky we even paid for the meal it was so so bad. We are all still hungry and will have to make something at home now. Saturday night out to dinner ruined. Salmon was dry and tasted awful. Pot roast tasted like jerky and the potatoes were still hard. My son's cheeseburger looked awful but he is 7 so ate it without complaint. Stay away. Far away. read more

I've been a big fan of Dave's Valley Grill for a few years now (as soon as I found it), and now I'm an even bigger fan of Dave's High Desert Grill (only because it is closer). Dave's High Desert is very stylish with sleek black, turquoise, silver and touches of gold. It offers many seating options, from seats at the large rectangular bar to cozy booths along a wall to regular tables with comfortable chairs. We were there for brunch, and there are so many choices: three totes of Eggs Benedict, quiche, omelets, scrambles, huevos, burritos, pancakes, French toast, Avo toast, etc. I can't list them all. Dave's also serves of the regular menu, and that menu is also huge. Everything I've tried at Dave's is delicious, very fresh, and nicely presented. We chose carnitas, a short stack of pancakes, and a huge, fresh black and bleu salad (blackberries, bleu cheese, and bacon atop baby greens with honey balsamic vinaigrette). The carnitas were very tender and tasty, served on a large biscuit and covered with a very mild green chile sauce. The carnitas came with delicious skillet potatoes and a fresh fruit salad. Dave's offers many beverages, and mimosas, juices, and good coffee join sodas, tea, and whatever you might choose from the full bar. Dave's is very clean, and the service is friendly, fast and efficient. I'm very happy there's a Dave's close by so it will be easy to visit often. read more

Let me start by writing: Dave I'm sorry I didn't have the balls to tell you the truth. You asked and I lied. "Everything was great" just don't look at our half eaten plates. This was our third trip to Dave's High Desert. The first visit we had a lovely salad with grilled salmon. This was a very good menu item. We also ordered the fish tacos. For the price point there didn't seem to be much value tot he fish tacos and it wasn't an item good enough to return for. Service was excellent. Second trip, we both ordered the Cranberry salad with salmon. It was good, but the dressing was very sweet. Service was OK, but nothing to write home about. On Saturday 08/05/23 we returned again. This time ordering the Carnitas Benedict and the Black Bean Burger. We were with a group of people. I noticed on the benedicts ordered at the table, all of the poached eggs were served well done. Almost like a soft boiled egg. Without flavor. The carnitas was disgusting. 90% fat. While the Black Bean burger had really nice flavor, it fell apart after the second bite. I question if Dave has sampled this item off the menu. The portion of fries was really small. I would understand if they were fresh cut fries, but these were clearly from a bag of frozen. Also, if you're going to offer burgers, there should be a jar of Dijon mustard somewhere in the place. A side of mayo shouldn't take 8 minutes. Service was challenging. While I respect Dave for taking over this dog of a location: weird entrance, mostly dark, strange shape, plus all the dirt and leafs that collect by the front door. The food has got to make up for it. Sorry Dave, we won't be back. read more

The restaurant is in a great location with a great bar and a lovely patio - can't wait 'till it's a little cooler! Did I mention the really excellent food? I had a turkey roll up full of cranberries, pecans, etc., and turkey of course, that came with the best onion rings I've had in a long time. My knife would not cut through because they were hard as a rock. Tasted like something out of a frozen foods box. Limited beers, promoting local breweries. Get some bud or miller products.
