I ordered no sauce and other people ordered hot sauce. People that ordered the hot couldn't hardly eat it because it was too hot, so if you like spicy then this is your place! This is not somewhere to go if you expect great service but the amount of chicken you can get is great. I tried both the mild and the hot. The mild is a dry rub and fine for hot chicken. The hot was more course of a dry rub that stuck to my mouth but it was yummy. The fries were seasoned well. The coleslaw was almost not there but it was still an okay slider for fast food. My mom and I had been curious about Dave's so we decided to try it out for lunch and if you like quality hot chicken sandwiches or tenders then this place is a great go-to for a satisfying mid-day meal. However, if you ask me and my mom we say turn the music down just a little...or maybe don't sit directly under a speaker. The rock and roll was a bit abrasive when trying to enjoy a hot, fried fresh, chicken sandwich. But, I really can't deduct a full star for that. The value isn't really stellar with two meals, the smallest meals with one "slider" apiece and one drink being around $25 but, I have no issues paying for quality and the quality was out of this world. Way above any other fast food chicken place and the spice was a nice touch, I ordered mine HOT and it wasn't that spicy in my opinion but, it had loads of flavor that made my lips tingle. The pickles were a standout too because they weren't dill they were sweet and yummy. The slaw on the chicken sandwich is not a classic creamy coleslaw instead it is a dryer kale slaw. Not my favorite but, it added a nice crunch. The crinkle cut fries were executed perfectly, which is a hard feat because sometimes these type of fries in particular turn out soggy and limp. Not at Dave's! They are crispy and topped with a dusting of seasoning. Also, the Dave's sauce is banging, it has the right amount of zestiness as well as a touch of cayenne. It's addictive. All in all Dave's deserves a 5 star review, it is the best hot chicken around and well worth the higher pricetag because the spices and quality reign supreme! read more

Oh look...another national chain chicken joint invading /expanding into Kansas City. This addition to Westport is just a block down from Taco Bell and only a couple more from Raising Cane's Chicken - slow down on the chains Westport; you have a reputation to preserve...this isn't a suburban strip mall. Dave's forte' is Nashville style hot chicken and I ordered the 10 piece bites with fries - hot. The chicken was tender and the amount of heat was good without overpowering, but the dry rub that produces the kick was just a gritty nuisance. A dry rub on something slow smoked is nice, but just coating fried chicken in a dry seasoning does not make a pleasurable experience for me. Fries were hot and seasoned adequately - see; you already know how to properly season food items. The slice of bread was crispy as toast but wasn't toasted - it had just been left sitting out to long. Ambiance - fake urban mural graffiti for some artificial hipness and some great music playing - Marley, Taj Mahal, Steely Dan... but WAY TOO LOUD! What the hell? On our way to an event, we stopped by thinking we had time to spare. We were wrong! Here is where things could be improved: Location: 8/10 This location is considered to be midtown/Westport area. I do think it is a decent location, but it is definitely on the smaller side. Customer Service: 4/10 I wouldn't necessarily say that the customer service was bad, but it could have been better. They weren't welcoming but they weren't off putting either. It was a weird mix. It was obviously the late dinner rush, so maybe that has something to do with it? I also observed one of the employees nearly shutting a customers head in the walk up window after rudely telling him to "come inside." Eew. Get Cozy: 2/10 This place is tiny! When it's really busy, it's not the wave. It was standing room only when we arrived but thankfully we were able to find a table once it cleared out a little bit. The location in OK was way bigger with a better layout. Slower than a snail: 0/10 We weren't expecting the service to be slow. We waited over 20 minutes for our food. I guess it's a good thing cause it was fresh but man. If we didn't have somewhere to be, it would have been alright... Food: 8/10 the food for three people was $40. That included a number 1, number 4, and a double order of fries. It's a little steep if you ask me. Again, the food was fresh and we are grateful for that. I don't think it was necessarily worth the 20 minute wait though. Also, the soda fountain was broken so they were handing out cans of soda if you were getting a drink. Not a deal breaker, but ice is always nice. Overall: 4.4/10 This was a disappointing experience. 10/10 this place was amazing. From the food to the atmosphere inside. The chicken was incredible, best chicken sandwich I've probably ever had. It was crispy and I got medium heat so it was the perfect amount(wasn't spicy but good)! The fries were crispy and had a seasoning on them that complimented the chicken! Pickles on the side and a sauce. You can even just get plain tenders and sandwich if you aren't wanting any spice. They really take care of you here. As soon as I walked inside I was greeted with hellos from two of the employees right off the bat, and I felt so welcomed. The women that took my order complimented me, was so happy, and probably the best service I've gotten in a while. She asked about the spicy I could take, and told me all the sides you could substitute (for free) and informed me drinks were separate, which was good to know. Alright, I'm impressed. This is BY FAR the best Nashville Hot Chicken I've ever had. I ordered the 'Hot' heat level and my friend ordered the 'Mild' heat level. Both very good, but discovered Medium is really ideal for someone not too experienced with spicy foods. Hot is still very flavorful and they're not joking because it is indeed very, very hot. The chicken is juicy and cooked to perfection with just the perfect amount of crunch. Mild is very flavorful as well, but definitely not hot enough for my taste personally. Regardless, very good chicken no matter the heat level. Heat increases, but maintains its flavor. The size of the tenders you get is well worth the price as well. If you choose to dine in you're limited to a very compact area with very few tables to choose from. More often than not it's best to just order carry out. Will definitely be back. read more

Second day open! Right when you walk in the staff greets you with a smile! Bri helped me and recommended I get the #3 to try the tenders and sliders. I got the medium spice and it was perfect. My boyfriend got the hot, and it was a little spicer than anticipated. The slaw on the sliders is delicious! I'm not usually a slaw person, but it really pairs perfect with the chicken! The breading on the chicken was great - not too much or too little. Their fries are delicious. Perfectly cooked and great seasoning. They have milkshakes, but I did not (yet) try one! Will have to get one next time. There are 5 tables inside, so not a ton of space. They give all food in to go containers, so it's easy to take it home if there is no seating available. The only thing that stinks is that if you eat there it is quite a lot of wasted trash (containers, plastic sacks). Overall, I think this is a great addition to Westport! Service is what you would expect from a fast-food joint. If I want some spicy chicken, this is always a place that comes to mind but for just that reason. I have tried from mild all the way to extra hot and I feel like the reason people come here is for spice and not flavor. I would hope there would be more flavor with the chicken overall. The main flavor and slight-saving-grace for this place is heat. If you want heat, then go here. If you want flavor, especially without heat, I would go somewhere else. I walked in on a Tuesday evening around 8pm. There were a few people eating, some waiting for orders, and no one in line. No one took my order for 5-10 minutes nor acknowledged me. Someone waiting for food pointed out to the worker I was waiting to order. I placed my order and waited for 45 minutes for my order to come out. There were at least 5 workers in there. It seemed like everyone who waited for food waited a very long time. Even those picking up for 3rd party deliveries were getting impatient. The one worker who took my order seemed very annoyed when people came in or asked if their food was ready. But the food was hot and tasty by the time I got home.
