    Chicken sandwich

Dave's was really good. I tried this and immediately was impressed by how tasty everything was. It was very flavorful. I also love how I could pick my own heat level. The space was a little messy when we went but nothing that we couldn't fix ourselves. Service was good! The server got our food quickly out to us.

Love the spicy chicken sandwich from Dave's Hot Chicken. The Westport location is really nice but depending on when you go it does get a little hard to find parking. But the food is so good. If you have to time to dine in, do it. Everything tastes better when it's fresh.

First time having Dave's Hot Chicken and it did not disappoint! Dave's Hot Chicken is hands down one of the best spots for spicy chicken lovers! The tenders are juicy, perfectly seasoned, and cooked to crispy perfection. I love that they offer a range of spice levels--from no heat all the way up to "Reaper"--so everyone can find their comfort (or challenge) zone. The sliders are massive and packed with flavor, especially when paired with their creamy slaw and pickles. The crinkle-cut fries are always hot and crispy, and the Dave's Sauce is addictive--it brings everything together.

First time eating here! I ordered the chicken slider and chicken tender with fries, which was all good. You have the option of ordering no sauce, mild, medium, or hot. I ordered no sauce and other people ordered hot sauce. People that ordered the hot couldn't hardly eat it because it was too hot, so if you like spicy then this is your place! Place was decorated quite brightly on the walls as they were artistically painted in bright colors. Parking can be a little bit of a pain due to a one way street beside it. Walk up window is available. Staff were nice and helpful.

I liked how bright and full of color the restaurant was. I ordered the chicken tenders and my spouse ordered the chicken sandwich. The service was good and the manager did come over to clean our table before we received our food. The food was okay but with the sauce, chicken and pickle it was better so eat together. Brings out the flavors more.

This is not somewhere to go if you expect great service but the amount of chicken you can get is great. I tried both the mild and the hot. The mild is a dry rub and fine for hot chicken. The hot was more course of a dry rub that stuck to my mouth but it was yummy. The fries were seasoned well. The coleslaw was almost not there but it was still an okay slider for fast food. I ate inside but many people ordered to go. Inside the restaurant was clean and had larger tables for families.

I've always loved their chicken tenders. You can get them in so many different levels of heat! Now they have their new Dave's bites which are now my favorite! Always a good place to get some good fried tenders with good flavor.

My mom and I had been curious about Dave's so we decided to try it out for lunch and if you like quality hot chicken sandwiches or tenders then this place is a great go-to for a satisfying mid-day meal. However, if you ask me and my mom we say turn the music down just a little...or maybe don't sit directly under a speaker. The rock and roll was a bit abrasive when trying to enjoy a hot, fried fresh, chicken sandwich. But, I really can't deduct a full star for that. The value isn't really stellar with two meals, the smallest meals with one "slider" apiece and one drink being around $25 but, I have no issues paying for quality and the quality was out of this world. Way above any other fast food chicken place and the spice was a nice touch, I ordered mine HOT and it wasn't that spicy in my opinion but, it had loads of flavor that made my lips tingle. The pickles were a standout too because they weren't dill they were sweet and yummy. The slaw on the chicken sandwich is not a classic creamy coleslaw instead it is a dryer kale slaw. Not my favorite but, it added a nice crunch. The crinkle cut fries were executed perfectly, which is a hard feat because sometimes these type of fries in particular turn out soggy and limp. Not at Dave's! They are crispy and topped with a dusting of seasoning. Also, the Dave's sauce is banging, it has the right amount of zestiness as well as a touch of cayenne. It's addictive. All in all Dave's deserves a 5 star review, it is the best hot chicken around and well worth the higher pricetag because the spices and quality reign supreme!

Grabbed dinner here and was happily surprised. They have a small menu - I ended up with the Dave's bites. Everything came out hot and crispy. The "hot" is definitely relative. I got medium and could have gone a notch or two spicier. Loved the Dave's sauce! I could have split the meal with someone else.

This place was fantastic! The hype is here for sure, we each had a sandwich the heat was great if you want hot! Mine was mild and so juicy. Only complaint I had was why I waited so long to try this. Run and get you some.

Oh look...another national chain chicken joint invading /expanding into Kansas City. This addition to Westport is just a block down from Taco Bell and only a couple more from Raising Cane's Chicken - slow down on the chains Westport; you have a reputation to preserve...this isn't a suburban strip mall. Dave's forte' is Nashville style hot chicken and I ordered the 10 piece bites with fries - hot. The chicken was tender and the amount of heat was good without overpowering, but the dry rub that produces the kick was just a gritty nuisance. A dry rub on something slow smoked is nice, but just coating fried chicken in a dry seasoning does not make a pleasurable experience for me. Fries were hot and seasoned adequately - see; you already know how to properly season food items. The slice of bread was crispy as toast but wasn't toasted - it had just been left sitting out to long. Ambiance - fake urban mural graffiti for some artificial hipness and some great music playing - Marley, Taj Mahal, Steely Dan... but WAY TOO LOUD! What the hell? This was on a Monday afternoon, not late night when the bars are closing. DHC really misses the mark for me on several fronts. I can't see myself returning for a do-over.

food came out pretty good and was seasoned generously, customer sevrvice wasn't the best and neither was the price. almost 15 dollars for 2 medium filets, a small side of fries and no drink is outrageous. took 20 mins for 2 meals and tables we're dirty. still ate the food becuase it was my only option after a long shift. the bread is quite literally people just slapping raw bread not even toasted under the chicken

The boy is enjoying his extra hot slider. He said we'll be back so I guess we will!!
    Ryan F.

Food was good, my son moved the extra hot. I got medium and will try hot next time because the medium has very little heat. Service was great and quick. Music was very loud, but it was good music so it made it bearable.

The food was fresh but the customer service was not.

Service was a bit on the slow side but I think there was only one person working and maybe another person who showed up later on. Everyone was friendly. I started with some hummus. It was good but there was a lot of olive oil on it. I really liked the grilled pita it came with. I also tried the chicken schwarma sandwich. It comes with fries but I asked to swap them for the lentil soup. I ended up with both fries and soup due to a mishap. The lentil soup was ok. It was a little different than what I'm used to. It wasn't bad but it wasn't my favorite. I did like the fries so I'm glad they were there. My favorite was the chicken schwarma sandwich. The chicken was super tender and had a slightly cinnamon flavor. It paired great with the garlic sauce. And the pickles were really good. I'm definitely going to return to get that again. I had a bite of the gyro meat and that was really good too. I want to try that one too!

The menu in the window and the happy hour specials advertised outside drew me in! It's a low-key, casual place with counter service for carryout orders, as well as table service. The dining room has a few small tables about six booths and six barstools. One wall is painted a lively orange, and live plants line a ledge along the booths. I approached the counter and was invited to sit anywhere, then was promptly given menus. The menu includes lamb, beef, chicken, and vegetarian options (no pork). There's a nice selection of appetizers, plus burgers, calzones, pizza, gyros, and many Indian dishes including masala, curry, saag, briyani, and naan. I had a happy hour cocktail special and a gyro. The drink was plenty strong and well-balanced. The gyro was very tasty, with thick, moist chunks of meat. Though I would have preferred more lettuce and onions on it, I'm not sure what's proper and traditional, so no complaints! The server was very kind and polite. Atmosphere is not super conducive to lingering--there's loud pop music and bright lights--but it's a great place to pop in and get a good meal!

What kind of eatery opens next to a Boost mobile phone outlet, across the street from a Burmese grocer, a middle Eastern second-hand store, in an area of town that serves as a place you drive through to get somewhere, as opposed to being a destination? This section of Independence Avenue is urban hardscrabble. Part run-down, shuttered and failed businesses mixing with the inevitable corner lot chain pharmacy with their bright lights a few doors down. A corporate behemoth on land purchased for little, that makes no pretense at fitting into the neighborhood, its profits streaming to some corporation outside the city. A salute to a population over-saturated with prescription drugs, the purpose of making the few wealthy. Got mesothelioma? This, this is where the poor live, where immigrants gather and look to create some kind of community that reminds them of their common heritage. This business effort, I conclude, is little more than an honest Hail Mary. Safari Cafe is not a pretty place. It's not a destination and won't be trending on Yelp. You won't meet with friends here over a meal, and my words will never be a Review Of The Day. It's not even meant to constitute a review, but ultimately may. It's a large room, questionably lit, operated by Muslim women in headscarves, long flowing skirts, and men speaking native African tongues. Bare walls and floors, 4-5 tables in a space that could hold 30. Jarring. The menu is unfamiliar. I order goat with onions, savory rice, a small salad and a few sauces, one green which I hoped was pure fire, and did not disappoint. The goat was a bit chewy but flavorful, had clearly been sitting. Easily 5-6 times as much rice as there should have been. Savory, mixed with raisins, a few kernels that pretend to be seasoned with Saffron, but merely colored to appear that way. I asked. The food is East African. For those not familiar, that might include Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan. You have been watching the news, right? These are not Johnson County. Privately, I think to myself there's a good chance these people have endured a life most of us might not be able to imagine. Several men are using the space as a place to pass time. They look depressed, likely unemployed. One is drifting off to sleep at an empty table with no food. Another in a wheelchair, same. One on a cell phone, but not appearing to be a customer, paces the floor while talking. CNN blares away on a television suspended from the ceiling with video and news of the current president elect. It's a Twilight Zone. I order, a woman brings my meal in a to-go container but hesitates, "you did want this to go?" "No, I'll eat here, this is fine," Upon leaving I give her a $20 bill for the $10 meal, ask for change for a tip. She smiles, but says nothing. I leave $2. An hour later I will end up in a bland, predictable south Johnson County strip mall bar with friends to watch the KU vs. K-State game. On the way I have an extra 20 minutes to kill so took back streets through the Crossroads, down Southwest Blvd., Merriam Drive before jumping onto I-35, always on the hunt for a new Mexican dive I'll likely visit in the future. I won't be dining here again, but the food was decent, and I'll take this experience any day over a Panera Bread, Jimmy Johns, McDonalds, Subway or other utterly bland and mind numbing alternative. Food can be an adventure, it can take you places, teach you things, and quickly move you outside your comfort zone, and maybe that's why I'm drawn to the unusual. I never know what the experience will be. On my visit here, yes, I got my money's worth. And then some.
