So I was cooped up in my room watching Tik Tok's of people burning their mouth on something called Dave's Hot Chicken and since I am basically a giant chicken tender I thought it would be fun to try it out. So I took a nice drive down to the town of Rock Hill to see what all the fuss was about. I arrived around 12:30 on a Thursday afternoon. I wasn't feeling especially dressed up enough to head inside and as there was no line for the drive thru I gave it a go! I had looked at the menu online before going but was grateful when I pulled up to the menu board and there wasn't 20 different options to make my brain explode over what I was gonna pick. Since I just wanted to try this out I just went with the 1 tender option. The two tender with crinkle cut fries will probably be my go to in the future but for now I was just taste testing. I also ordered the Dave's Bites. Which was a container of ten "nugget" like pieces of chicken. The customer service I received was amazing. I was asked if this was my first time. As it was she asked me if she could go over anything or answer any questions. I said no thanks as I pretty much knew what I was gonna get. She made sure to asked what spice level I wanted for each item and she asked if I wanted anything else which is nice because I hate when they just cut you off and tell you the price. I drove around and paid. Now there was a bit of a wait at the window. I don't know if they cook to order or what. The wait wasn't bad, a couple of minutes. At a more typical fast food place I would say it was long but I think it was about right for what I was getting. As I was waiting I saw what looked like a slushy machine and I saw they had milk shakes on the menu board so I'm definitely coming back to try those items. Soon enough I was handed my order and off I went. I was given plenty of napkins and utensils and even honey packets! I didn't wait to eat, I pulled into a parking spot and dove in. The Tender was of a very good size! I took a bite of the end just to gage that crunch and spice level. It was hot and juicy and yummy! I then wrapped it up between the piece of bread that it's served with and ate it like a hot dog. The spice reminded me of like Taco seasoning. I don't know how else to describe it. Being that I ordered the mild I don't think I will be ordering much higher on the spice levels. The Dave bite's (nuggets) were very good too. They were each of a good size, not small and all breading like some other places may have but really just a bite size piece of tender. Overall I have to see it was a great experience. The chickens here are crunchy, well seasoned and delicious! The seasoning has a potent, strange smell but the chicken tasted good. There's a hint of sweetness. First time and last time! Ordered the number 4 combo and then added and side of ranch for $1.49 ( they must think we are fools for paying this much for so little) and the total order was about $13.00 and that DID NOT include a drink. I got my order very quickly and realized I wasn't going to be able eat this . I took one bite and broke out in a massive sweating episode . I over heard someone saying that got the wrong order at the register and that when I realized my order was also mixed up. Based on the highly favorable ratings by some of my Yelp! buddies, I gave Dave's a try. It was not good. In my opinion it was a 2-star and my Yelp! rating average is a 3.47, but my Yelp! buddies must be tasting something that I am not, so here is a 3-star. I had the #1 order which was two chicken tenders with fries. I also had a very nice vanilla shake. The shake was not frozen, but smooth and flowed. Tasty, just could not use a straw, but good. I like spice, but not knowing their scale, ordered medium spice. The chicken appeared to be way over cooked, almost fried black. But the inside was hot, steamy and tender. Medium spice was, to my taste, a little too mild, so next time will move up the heat scale. It must be a matter of individual taste. I asked people at other tables and they said their meals were great and that they liked Dave's. I will give it another try, probably bringing someone with me. read more

Yes, back for more of Dave's Hot Chicken. This time I went for the 'Extra Hot' and it was! My eyes were watering and I drank some milk and cold water for relief. The in/out in the drive-thru here is so smooth and easy. They are quick and all about customer experience. Today a young lady named Kavae greeted me and was nice and professional. First time and unfortunately the last... My daughter mentioned this place and my wife was looking for something new. So, we drove 20 minutes anticipating food worth the drive. We were disappointed. The chicken was nothing special and over-seasoned. It's been an hour and I still taste it. The fries were basic crinkle fries, and again, nothing special. I ordered a milkshake at a little over $4 for a small. Half of it went in the trash. Over-priced for a machine shake and not good. Leaving 5 stars bc the food and service is always top notch. they go above and beyond with their customer service. this time tho, one of their employees was just in the dinning area and chatted on FaceTime very loudly for the whole time I was eating my food.
