It has been a while since I visited a Sonny's and after my recent trip I regret not going back sooner. Anytime you drive past this Sonny's you can smell that BBQ smoke just wants to draw you in for some goodness! I decided to use the app to order ahead as I had a little bit of a drive down to pick up the food. It was easy to use and customize your order. There is a curbside pickup spot right out front so I parked there and let them know via the app I was there. Shortly thereafter a friendly staffer brought out my order. First let me say they really prepare you for a feast. Loads of napkins and extra sauce and utensils were provided. For my main dish I ordered the Classic smoked pork sandwich. I got the garlic texas toast and tater tots for my side. As you can see in the photos these were large pieces of toast and plenty of meat! The tots were fried perfectly. Crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside! I also ordered some tenders sauced and tossed in their sweet bbq sauce! These tendies were huge! And not over sauced! There was just enough to add flavor but not make them soggy or drowning in the sauce. As you can see they were hot and juicy and now they are high on my goto place for tenders! I also ordered the chocolate chip cookies for dessert. You get two massive cookies that are not only large in diameter but they are thick too! It was all so good I came back the next day for a redo of that classic BBQ sandwich. I can't say enough good things about my meals here. If you want some yummy BBQ you gotta stop in! read more

A meal deal gone wrong! The Tax Day offer looked so right! It was $10.99 for the bbq ribs, plus two sides and cornbread. How could I go wrong? I followed the directions on the email they sent me and ordered from the Rock Hill location. The on-line order process asked for a description of my vehicle but never my name. When I pulled into the curb-side-spot, there was no number to call and no instructions as to what to do next. So, I called the restaurant and they sent a guy out with two big bags of food. I told the guy, this is way too much food and it's not mine. He said 'you're gonna have to go inside then'. I did and there was another man talking to the Manager about the same problem I had. It took about 15 minutes to get my food and they could never figure out what went wrong. Sonny's: you got a problem. The ribs were good and so were the bbq beans, cole slaw and cornbread. What I thought was going to be a quick trip to the curb side pick up was not happening today. If a Manager is reading this, ya'll need to fix it. read more

While the meal is had (loaded baked potato) was not bad, getting the entire meal was a problem. It comes with butter, mac & cheese, bacon, onion straws and ranch dressing. There was neither ranch or onion straws. Not positive there was bacon. Instead of waitress taking it back, she brought me a bowl of onion straws and a side of ranch. We ordered TWO Pecan pie egg rolls (1 order) to go, she brought the egg rolls and check. Charging us for 2 orders, and didn't not bring the stuff you dip them in. Another waitress said they were just 2 cut in 1/2, no they weren't. Eventually only bring 2 cups of dipping stuff, for 4 egg rolls. We had already paid and tipped on the meal ($61 +) for 2 people. The waitress seemed clueless. We will NEVER return to Sonny's. read more

Give the chef a raise! My meal was DoorDashed and it was so good that I called my mother just to slap her. The ribs were amazing, the pulled pork was amazing as well. This meal made my heart warm. it's been a while since I have been to a Sonny's BBQ. I ordered the ribs plus two sides and added an extra side of fries. The two sides that came with the ribs was so small I was shocked . The side of fries I paid for was pathetically small . Ribs were over cooked and not fall off the bone . I chose take out at the Rock Hill SC location . I spent 26 dollars for food that was sub par at best . Sorry, I never comment about food but I felt compelled to. read more

Went to one of the only existing Sonnys left in the Carolinas on Sept. 4th. I've thoroughly enjoyed eating there over the years, and despite it being an hour and a half away it's where I wanted to go for my birthday. We arrived and were seated pretty promptly. There were a small gathering of female servers near the door seemingly having a great time conversing with each other while the customers (including us) were virtually ignored. I watched one of the servers begrudgingly walk to clean a table or two, not making eye contact with anyone...the rest were still huddled up front. We got our food in a relatively timely manner. My brother and I both got a rack of baby back ribs (our favorite). The ribs we received were dismal in size and quality. I can only suspect the managing partner was trying to save by ordering sub-par supply from their vendors. When our server FINALLY broke away from the party, she started to take my plate, saying "are you done"? SERIOUSLY!!!?? I'm still eating. She looks surprised at my response and we had to ask HER to acknowledge we needed drink refills. Then, she asked if we wanted them to go...WE'RE STILL EATING! With this level of customer attention, we will be looking at one-more-less Sonnys to choose from in the near future! I reached out to their online customer service the day after, including a picture of the receipt...and, of course, received no response whatsoever (it's now Sept. 18). If you are looking for authentic good bbq you would expect in the Carolinas you will not find it here. No smoke flavor no smoke ring, looks like everything is heated and reheated. Ribs tasted off and they tried to cover it with extra bbq sauce that had a very odd taste. Pulled pork was stringy and dry. Brisket had some flavor but was mostly dry. Mac and cheese tasted like it was store bought and microwaved and the bbq baked beans were ok. Cornbread was like eating sand. They also didn't have any sodas. We have been going to Sonny's for years and have always had good results. Unfortunately this was not the case when we visited last week. My son ordered ribs and my husband and I ordered the smoked chicken. My son said the ribs were tough and not very warm. Our chicken was very bland and tasted as warmed over. We had water tots that tasted like they were cooked in old grease. Upon complaining to the waitress, she brought out a replacement but it was the same. She did say the cook was new and they had gotten other complaints on him. I paid over $55 for the food and a $10 tip which was way too much to pay and not enjoy our meal. I reached out to Sonny's and got a response that someone would be calling me shortly ( never happened ) so I have to assume they don't care that their customers are disappointed in their meals. We went right at the dinner hour and there were only 4 other parties in the restaurant so I'm assuming the business is dropping off. This is the Sonny's in Rock Hill, S.C. Im not going to say I'll never go back because we use to love their food but if this is how Sonny's feel about their customers then maybe I need to reevaluate where we dine out. read more

With so many great local barbeque restraunts you get spoiled. And there's a clear difference between that and chain barbeque. Sonny's is a chain known for barbeque, sides and salad bar. It has the country feel with wooden booths and decor. The menu has a variety of barbeque from sandwiches to dinner plates with pulled pork, smoked turkey, chicken, ribs, brisket and more. Sides range from French fries to baked beans to Mac and cheese. You can also add on the salad bar to your meal. And meals come with Texas toast or cornbread. I ordered the pulled chicken plate with green beans and baked beans and Texas toast. The meal was underwhelming. Chicken was dry despite already being tossed in sauce. Both sides were Luke warm. Beans were super sweet. Despite the temperature, the best tasting part of my plate were the green beans. Our server was okay. The restaurant wasn't too busy. She said she would bring us refills and an extra plate, but took a while. We then saw her cleaning off a table across from us. With it not being busy, just seems like the customers should come first. Went here for a quick, easy weekend dinner because everyone was in the mood for some good barbecue. It was the right choice. It was fairly busy, but there was still room for them to do spacing for their customers, which was nice to see. Harrison was our server, and he did an awesome job. His rating would be 5 stars. I ordered the pick 2 combo, with ribs, pulled pork, baked beans and potato salad. Also had some fries. The ribs and baked beans were okay, and the potato salad was very good. The pulled pork and fries were excellent. They have a good selection of sauces, all of which are pretty good. There wasn't any one of them that I didn't like. I love Sonny's! I'm partial to the St. Louis Ribs. I've been eating there for years, and the last 2 years have been using delivery for my Barbecue fix. I usually have no complaints. However, I ordered delivery tonight and for the 3rd time in a row something was left off my order. They've also changed the size of containers for sides, so reducing the serving size. Also, sadly, there is no longer banana pudding on the menu. I hope these things improve. The food continues to be consistently good! read more

I got a really nice birthday card in the mail from Sonny's barbecue. I thought this was an especially nice touch. Since the one in Rock Hill is my favorite, we went to that location. As usual the service was exemplary; unfortunately, the free meal I received seemed to be either the scraps that you would give away to somebody's dog or stuff you wouldn't serve a paying customer. The chicken was so dried out that I couldn't eat it, and the ribs, well let's just say they didn't stay down. Needless to say, I was very disappointed in the meal. I grew up eating at this Sonnys with my family. It's something I crave time to time and stop in. Went with my husband recently and the meat was 50% or more fat. Just not good. Staff was nice so I'll give them that compliment. Also prices are sky high for less than great quality. I can't say I'll never be back but probably not for a very long time. This last visit put a bad taste in my mouth. $44 (included 20% tip) for lunch for 2. No appetizers, nothing fancy. No thanks. Happy to pay premium for premium food. But this was not. read more
