I had a few minutes before my shift started and wanted to grab some pizza from a place I had never tried. Daves's open patio catches your eye from the street and invites you in to try their wares, I'm glad I accepted the invite. I ordered the 9" personal pie and, as you can see from the pic I took, it was super cheesy. The sauce was good and the crust had a nice texture between doughy and crispy. Overall, a great little pizza to fill your hungry belly. Oh, and be sure to use the restroom while you're there to catch the world wide journey of Elvis, well a picture of Elvis. Dave's has been a staple in downtown Homewood for many many years and I've had the chance to visit here on numerous occasions. I've always had a pleasant experience here nothing that would cause me grief or anything. The pizza is always prepared fresh and the staff is accommodating and nice. There are several pies to choose from as well as other items on the menu such as salads and cheese bread. Price point is decent, about what you would expect from a local pizza place. They used to have a full bar but now have transitioned into just wine and beer. Lots of local beer from the main breweries available too which is always nice. Nice open seating area so it's great on nice sunny days. Tv's always showing the latest ball games so it's very family friendly. read more

We showed up a few minutes prior to lunch opening and were greeted with such friendly people. They asked what pizzas we preferred on the buffet since we were first there. Soooo hospitable! The dough/crust is great! And the pizzas were amazing. My son had cheese pizza, I had pepperoni and supreme. Our server, Leigh Ann, told us that everything is homemade- from the ranch to the sausage on the pizza. And it tastes that way too! For my tiny child to have put down 2 large pieces of pizza, it had to be great! Leigh Ann was also incredibly sweet & took such great care of everyone there. This pizza was fantastic! We got three medium pizzas for our group of 8, which served us perfectly. Our waitress was attentive and on it, very good at her job! The atmosphere was fun and lively! I went to Dave's with a group of friends and enjoyed every aspect of the experience. The food was great, the staff was super friendly, but the atmosphere was by far the best part. The restaurant has a unique feel where it's both an outdoor and indoor dining location. And it is decorated is such an original way that makes eating there even more enjoyable. There's tons of 50's and 60's memorabilia especially when it comes to Elvis, but the restaurant still feels very modern. It was a really comfortable and fun dining experience. There are no COVID-19 precautions, but most of the seating is really spaced out and the dining area is sort of outdoors. I would certainly recommend coming here! read more

Tonight for dinner I had Dave's Pizza in downtown Homewood. I've been before and once again it was really good! This time I had the small Classic Margarita and it was $11. They have different sizes of pizza that you can get with a variety of prices but the small is perfect for one person and I think this price is very reasonable. The customer service was great and the food came out relatively quickly. I love the feel of this restaurant because you eat in an area that feels like your outside but is enclosed, there is always a nice breeze going and it overall feels very open. There are no longer COVID-19 protocols in place but the seating is pretty distanced. Overall, I have a great experience every time I come here and definitely recommend it! read more

The best part about Dave's Pizza is that it is an open air restaurant. Perfect for a nice, sunny day. There are plastic windows if it rains and heaters in the winter. If you like to have a beer with your pizza. They serve local craft beers on draft such as the Avondale Vanillaphant Porter and the Good People Pale Ale. They also have some in cans and bottles. For a 12 ounce mug, it was kind of pricey. When we went, it was not crowded, but it was 3 pm on a Saturday. Regarding the pizza, it was good, but it was nothing special. It was your typical pizza that you can find anywhere. But the price was good. When we were there, they had their jumbo pizza on special. We got three toppings and paid around $21. There was three of us, so we had plenty to take home. They, do however, offer specials everyday but they are closed on Sundays. read more

Well, I just ordered a chicken salad plate in a pizza place. Yes, you read that correctly. I've been on a chicken salad kick this week and this was a really good one! We came in at lunch time and they have a pizza buffet happening. Now I think that it's purely against the laws of nature to go to a pizza place and not eat pizza. So I obliged. I had a slice of their bbq pizza as well as the meat lovers. Crunchy, crispy crust that wasn't dried out. The sauces had great flavor and they did not skimp on the toppings. My husband also ordered a basket of their wings which were great. They had a dry rub on them, so of course they were full of flavor and had a kick to them. Go out on a limb and try their chicken salad. It's a savory one that comes with a side of fruit to perfectly balance it all out. I do want to try their calzone next time that we go. You can customize your pizza in a million ways, down to the sauce and cheese. They have nightly drink specials and live music on some nights. When you see management working just like the employees, one knows that you are in a first-class facility. The pizza is excellent from the Super Dave to the thin crust. There is something for everyone at Dave's However, the cheese bread is the best this size of heaven. It is a must have when you come to Dave's. The ambiance is great. This is my son's favorite pizzeria and gets upset if I go somewhere else for Pizza.. Dave's is very involved in the community and cares about children and their behavior immensely. He has created courtesy dollars for kids that possess good behavior in his restaurant. Also, Brett has partnered with Homewood Library to give kids Dave's pizza dollars for reading books in the summer. Attentive and nice but decided to take a cigarette break towards the end of our meal and told us if we needed anything to ask the other waitress, so when we asked for our check, the other waitress said we'd have to wait for our original waitress to return. Ordered a medium $21 pizza and it took AN HOUR even though we were the only people at the restaurant. It was also the size of a child's personal pizza. We had to walk across the street and get Zoe's afterwards because we were still starving. I've never in my life seen pizza so overpriced. Also the pizza was awful! I ordered a jumbo-size half-Hot Chick and half-Sweet Tang for a little more than $30. The slices are humongous so one will be enough to take you out if you're a girl. The flavors were delicious and they don't gimp out on flavor. The Sweet Tang is basically sweet BBQ chicken in a pizza. It was the winner on this plate and I was really happy going through it. The loser for me was the Hot Chick. Don't listen to the people working there. The Hot Chick is spicier than what they claim. I thought me being Asian and handling 'mild' back in California, that this would have nothing on me but it did. You better have a lot of water or a quart of milk next to you when you eat this. I also got diarrhea after eating half of this slice. On the plus side, it makes you feel like a new person after the episode and you're not left with a food coma. Refrigerator Test: After 3 days of sitting in the refrigerator the spiciness flavor lingers but I'm not sweating anymore! Stopped by to pick it up 20 minutes later, waited for the person running the register who seems to be in awe of a young lady he was chatting up, she left, waited another 10 minutes only to learn the guy at the register gave the young lady our pizza. Have been waiting for another 25 minutes, still no pizza. It's 1:35 pm. I would expect someone from Dave's to be issuing us a nice gift certificate to come back, because we will not be returning and I haven't even tasted the pizza. Just learned they burnt the second pizza and now have to wait for a third pie to get done. This is ridiculous. Poorly ran business, poor service, don't waste your time. We went to Dave's a couple of weeks ago for the first time in a while. I had only been for lunch before, and it was always pretty good. This last experience was not the best. But not enough to deter us from trying again. Starting out, it was a Friday night. So of course it was packed. But we were seated very quickly. Maybe its my old age, but the music was too loud for us to even really talk. We ordered the pizza and the flavor and crust were outstanding. But when it came out, it was a little cold. But the taste of it was the saving grace. I tend to think we were a rare case that night since it was crowded. After reading the reviews, it sounds like I should try a few other things on the menu. This is by far the BEST pizza I have ever had. The double pepperoni and double cheese is amazing, and I wish more restaurants could offer that. A medium pizza is more than enough for two people and leftovers if you are curious as to their size proportions. The only drawback is that it can be a little rough eating in this environment. When I went, there was a live band, so it was very loud and hard to talk during our dinner. We decided to move outside, and there were lots of flies. Maybe where there's flies, there's good food. I would have been perfectly fine without them though. It can be pretty hot this time of year to eat there too. I think they have lots of fans, but I wasn't aware of an air conditioner. I normally love warm weather, but I would definitely save this as a place for below 75 degree dining, as it is something one might not think about but really would appreciate knowing beforehand. And last but not least, we had one of the friendliest and bubbliest waitresses I've had. She came around fairly often and was delightful conversation. Chose to keep it simple with a pepperoni pizza however this pizza was BOMB. Crust was nice and fluffy and was a good base for this fantastic pie. Positives: Good location and cool seating with an indoor location but outside feel given they have their large windows opened. I went on a night where there was a band which is nice to sit and eat and listen to live music. Cheesy garlic bread was good. Negatives: Everything is overpriced. The pizza was ok at best and super overpriced for what you get. There is only one single bathroom, meaning one toilet, so everyone has to wait to use the restroom, which was super odd for an eatery. The kicker was they charge for water. $.75 per water. I would give this place a pass on this if we hadn't ordered other beverages but we did. I would think that overcharging for small portion pizzas would more than enough make up for the tap water bill but I guess not. Europe doesn't even charge for water and they charge for their citizens and tourists to use public bathrooms, which honestly I was surprised this place didn't do after seeing the water charge. Service was atrocious. Twice we had to get up from the table and walk over to our server to ask for something more to drink. Even when our food was brought to us, our cups were empty and the server did not even notice. All in all, not a great experience. read more

Yikes. Lots of disasters here. Parking for starters is a no go. Secondly, Place does not seem equip for parties larger than four. We had a group of 10 plus and had one server who tried her best I'm sure but still....The noise level can get intense too, I could barely hear other members of my party and we were in close proximity to each other. Food was alright, nothing too special. Their pizzas seem extra greasy so I went with another item on the menu. If I have learned one thing about pizza, it is that everybody is welcome to their own opinion as to what good pizza is. I grew up in Chicago, worked for a pizza cheese company and spent a lot of time on the East Coast trying to help independent pizzerias improve their recipes. I have had amazing pizzas and some of the most disgusting concoctions known to man. Dave's is neither of those. We had our young daughter with us, so our meal wasn't a culinary excursion, sausage pizza, chicken nuggets, and cheesy bread. Had I been blind folded I would have said that the pizza was a Tombstone (same sausage) the chicken nuggets wet battered paper, and the cheesy bread the highlight of the meal. It's not a bad pizza, but there is better in Birmingham. Much better. Try Davenport's, Salvatore's, Formaggio's, Rocky's, or Tortuga's. There may be better, just haven't tried every place yet. read more
