Hit the buffet at Dave's today---again. Probably my 50th time, and I keep coming back- what does that tell you? Had some meat lover's topped off by three slices of Dave's Special (all meat and all vegetable), pretty hard to beat. Usually on the buffet they have a chicken and cheese thing thats pretty salty, and another style thats BBQ with a sweet sauce... if you have a sweet tooth that's as close to dessert that you'll get at Dave's. Dave's pizza is certainly very good pizza, but it's normally pretty pricey for a whole pie. But on weekdays between 11 and 2, you pay $8 and change (which includes a cup for the self-serve soda fountain) for all you can eat pizza buffet. They have have least 4 different pies out at a time, sometimes more. And during peak lunch hours as they make more pizzas, the lady will come out and offer you slices of hot fresh pizza at your table... So instead of going to Cici's for lunch, you can just spend a couple bucks more to enjoy the total experience of Dave's pizza. Some of the non-pizza menu items are good too, like the pork sandwich, which comes with au jus dipping sauce. Atmosphere-wise there are lots of TVs and the windows are all roll-up which is done when the weather is nice outside. Parking is sorta iffy - usually you will have to find a parking spot across the street in the soho plaza or back along the main stretch (18th street). read more

My review is for Dave's as an event venue on a Monday night in nice weather on the courtyard: I organized an event that was held here last night (on an otherwise slow Monday night). It was an excellent place for our event with excellent service from our main server Sydney. The event was a mix-and-mingle event that ended up having about 30-something attend. The manager on duty Audrey allowed us to reserve the back courtyard where we were allowed to organize and move tables and chairs to our satisfaction- and Sydney and another server helped us do it. Sydney and a male server whose name I am embarrassed I did not catch, had very quick turn arounds for drink orders, with frosted mugs landing in hands only short minutes after each order. Many of the people in our group had never been to Dave's and I am certain many will now return. Sydney's attention to everyone really made a big impression as compared to some other venues we've used. Afterward about half of the attendees stayed for supper- one of our highest percentage rates of transition from happy hour time to supper of any event space yet. Sydney and the other attentive server made the transition to a long table in the covered patio smooth and quick. All I heard from people as they ate their pizza was how good it was. My only slightly negative feedback to Dave's is as I called the first time and 2 times afterward to follow up and update our RSVP numbers, talking to different of the 3 managers each time, was that a couple of times the managers sounded bothered by my calls, especially the first time. After my initial conversation I honestly thought about calling back and cancelling and picking a different venue. We do these events on Mondays because local/non-chain restaurants are usually very happy to have a boost to their numbers that night. But I knew my past experiences at Dave's did not match that impression, so I stayed the course. And I am glad I did. So I guess the take-aways are that Dave's is a great place for a courtyard event when the weather is pleasant (as it was last night), at least one manager (I don't know which one) has abrasive phone etiquette, the pizza is delicious, and the service at Dave's is outstanding. I highly recommend and am giving them 5 stars for nice-weather, outdoor, Monday night event space. read more

I do not recommend this place. We came in for lunch on a Sunday because we wanted to go to a local business instead of the chain across the street. They don't serve iced tea, which is strange in the South. Then we ordered one of their signature dishes (their chicken salad), and they were out of it. When you have just opened for the day, being out of one of the dishes you brag most about by 12:30 is pretty lousy. My recommendation is to pass on this place. read more

The dinning experience has changed over the past few years for the better (in my opinion). The addition of some extra TV's, a smattering of some laid back live entertainment and the continuing evolution of the pizza menu keeps this place relevant and relaxed. The place is good year round, but if you want the best experience pick a day in the 70-80's with a slight breeze. You'll never want to leave. Dave's is a great place, like an earlier reviewer mentioned, to just kick back with some friends, enjoy a brew (or "root brew") and some great pizza and chillax. The atmosphere's very laid-back, sometimes on weekends there's an acoustic guitarist/musician playing, and the restaurant itself is set up so that on great weather nights the plastic windows can be rolled up and the place turned into an open-air area. And it offers (completely) outdoor seating, and is nearby the newest SoHo restaurants/stores district, so safety's generally not a concern and the scenery is pretty quaint. The pizza's pretty good - a bit on the moderately-priced side but very doable and very filling. And a wide variety of traditional to healthy choices of toppings are available. Everyone I've known that visits seems to enjoy themselves and their meals. I have yet to visit and not have a great experience, and that includes going with a single other person to going with a group of 5+. Highly recommended - you won't be disappointed. read more

Arrived as the restaurant opened on Father's Day. Very nice staff. Cautioned us right away it would take some time for us to get our food because the ovens needed to warm up. No problem because we weren't in a hurry. My kids constantly asked the server for refills, and they ran and danced all over the restaurant. It was empty, so it was no problem. We patiently wait and enjoyed our time together. What was intended to be a late lunch became an early dinner, and that was cool. The game room was attractive, but some of the games didn't work and took our money. Would have been best to let the kids just pretend they were playing. But they had fun regardless. Jumbo pizza was smaller than we expected, but it was hot and had a nice crust. Mozzarella sticks were baked and not greasy. When the check came, there was no charge for the three fountain drinks -- huge when you consider how much restaurants charge for beverages. Good place to go with the kids. RARELY...do I give a 5. If you have read my posts, its all about Service...and then the food. Here...they have it in Aces. We showed up, on spring break, first time in the restaurant. The lady behind the counter was busy, but took the time to explain their process for lunch. We ordered a few beers, got 2 different pizzas, one for the little ones and one for the parents. We sat down and the pizza came out in a good enough time, and we had ordered the mushrooms for an appetizers. Wife and I agreed, (as she loves mushrooms) that this order of mushrooms for that particular day was the best we had ever had, bar none. Then the pizza showed up, and the girls devoured theirs and the parents did the same. It was fresh and hearty, great cheese and delivery of it. Here comes the "over the top" service. Unbeknownst to us, our pizza was completed incorrectly, we did not notice that the pizza was missing pepperoni on the toppings. (we didn't notice as we were too busy filling our pie holes) Because of the mistake, the lady brought us out a correctly compiled confection of cuteness in the form of a New Pizza for us to take home, with her apologies draped all over the box. :-0 Yep...we will be back and fans for a long time, well done Dave's Pizza well done! #greatpizza read more

We came around 8 PM and it was not super busy. We were seated and sat for 10 minutes, 3 or 4 servers walked by and no one even made eye contact with us. However, I will not be returning to Dave's because of the several instances now that I have seen the management, particularly the owner, mistreat their employees and customers. I really enjoy their food-- the pizza is really great. I really enjoy the Hot Chick and the Pollo Pesto. I know this is insane, but I'm knocking 2 stars off of their rating for the following reasons: 1. They charge 25 cents for a glass of water. Seriously?! I've been to $100/plate restaurants where TAP WATER is complimentary. My party of five people left the restaurant our server told us they'd be charging for tap water. Ludicrous. 2. We stopped by during a shopping trip in Homewood and we're very pleased. My wife and small kids ordered a large split topping pizza and it was the perfect size. If you have kids that are older than six you might want to consider getting an additional small pizza. Most of the restaurant is outdoor but they have a small indoor bar and the outdoor is climate controlled. This place has a great feel. Overall I do think it's a tad overpriced for pizza. A large with a few soft drinks will get you over $30. It was a good meal but a bit much for single large pizza. read more

A group of a dozen of us came on the late side and they were great about pushing tables together for us and were accommodating in suggesting splitting the check multiple ways. Got a free pizza because there was a slight issue with one of the pizzas and our server Kayla was keeping us up to date on our orders, refilling our drinks, and suggesting desserts. When my parents came to visit a couple of weeks ago, they had a craving for pizza. I thought about taking them to Slice or Post Office Pies, but opted for something that was easier on their wallet but still just as good. Although I wouldn't compare it to either of those restaurants, I still enjoyed the pizza. We opted for the meat lovers option and the large was more than enough for the both of us. I love the decor and vibe of this place. The chandeliers give it a classy edge. They have good beer and/or wine specials depending on what day of the week it is. They have plenty of TVs and, even though almost all of the seating is outside, there are enough plastic walls and heaters to keep you warm. We loved it! In town for a one day event. Needed a quick lunch and Dave's Pizza fit our needs perfectly. Two of us had pizza lunch buffet and soft drinks for under $20. I especially enjoyed the BBQ pizza. The crust on all the choices was soft and chewy. We were offered ranch or marinara to dip the crust in, gratis. Leanne greeted us as we entered. When we told her it was our first visit she explained the choices (buffet vs menu) and helped us with directions and seating once we made our choice. This was my first time trying Dave's Pizza and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. I shared a medium pepperoni pizza and the cheesy garlic bread with my friend. I don't love cheese so the garlic bread was a little much for me, however, the flavor was incredible. If you are anything like me, I would stick with the regular garlic bread. I really enjoyed that nothing was extremely greasy like most pizza places tend to make their food. I opted for pick up instead of dine-in for my order. The pizza was ready in a timely manner and was piping hot when we went to pick it up. The ambiance of the places was amazing. The inside looked really cool. It definitely had a pizza parlor type of vibe to it. Also, the outside was beautifully lit up. I might just go back to dine-in sometime. The pizza was served in a traditional pizza box and the cheesy garlic bread was served in a styrofoam to-go container with marinara sauce in a separate styrofoam container with a plastic lid. So in terms of sustainability, they could improve. I saw all employees wearing masks but did not notice any clear indications of keeping a 6-foot distance in the pick-up area. We ordered the medium "Neoclassic" pizza but with whole wheat crust. The standard toppings with this pizza are pesto, onions, pine nuts, roma tomatos, feta cheese, and parsley. I think it would have been better with their white crust, as the crust was a little hard. The ingredients seemed good and the overall effect of the pizza was good, but not excellent. The toppings weren't a generous portion either. For the price, $20 (not including tax), I felt it should be excellent. Overpriced. In the end, we ended up putting hummus on our pizza--to great effect. It made the pizza tastier and made up for the hard crust. Also, got some more protein. The delivery guy, incidentally, was very chipper and professional. And, the delivery happened pretty quickly as they promised. I would be willing to try this place again to see if I'm more impressed with a pizza with white crust. Also, I think I want to try in-store dining, since other reviewers seem to like the experience. read more

Went by the yelp and citysearch reviews and checked out the menu online - lots of good healthier option pizzas. The hotel people immediately said without hesitation to order from Dave's Pizza. I ended up ordering a medium whole-wheat pesto for delivery. Super-friendly on the phone, came in less than 30 minutes with a smile, just under $20. Pizza was good as always, especially the sweet tang. But for some reason they've changed the set up from a buffet to a walk up and get served by the staff in the middle of the outdoor area concept. Chaotic and it wasn't even busy. People asking what pizza is what because they are sitting in the old circular warmer instead of out on display. Last night I wanted Pizza for dinner and hotel recommended I try Dave's Pizza. I was greeted immediately when I walked in, which is a big deal for me. I spent 20 minutes talking to several of the staff on options and each one was nice, patient and extremely customer oriented as the offered suggestions and answered ALL of my questions with a smile. I didn't realize that one of the employees was the owner, he was so down to earth, approachable and very engaging. I learned they make their own bread, pesto and other items and boys was the bread good, hot, soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside. The pesto and marinara sauce were AH-mazing!!!! I finally landed on the chicken pesto pizza and by far it was one of the best pizzas I've eaten! I'll be back the next time I'm in town. Thank you for a great dinner experience! It was great for the girls and moms to talk and unwind after the game tonight. Food was delicious and the service was very pleasant. The servers did a great job with hosting the 20+ of us. So there's this manager there who is just so awesome..... And her name is sydney!!! Ok so i know I'm gonna be biased because, hello, I work there. BUT if 25 years of awesome pizza and beer doesn't draw you in (come on now, why wouldn't that draw you in), lemme tell ya about daves. We have an awesome covered patio that is open for views all around. A beautiful courtyard with string lights shining above. Candles on every table giving a little ambiance. And the food. Guys. The BEST pizza. The sauce is delicious. The crust is fluffy and soft on the inside, nice and brown and crispy on the outside. We use high quality toppings on all of our pizzas. Don't even get me started on the appetizers. Those caprese stuffed mushrooms are amazing! (And I hate mushrooms!!!! But these, I love!!) And you can never go wrong with our homemade cheesy garlic bread. All of our white rolls are made fresh in house. And then add cheese and garlic butter? It sounds simple, but it is done to perfection at daves. And then, if you aren't too full, you gotta have dessert dessert. If you have not tried our I Scream Bubba, you are missing out. A ooey gooey brownie with Ghirardelli chocolate pieces in it topped with vanilla Ice cream and just covered in whipped cream and chocolate syrup. Went to Dave's pizza on 11-4-2020. Got the all you can eat for $10 deal. Waitress took my credit card for payment, took a very long time bringing it back. At that time she said they screwed up running the card, so the meal was on the house. I thanked her and stated leaving. After getting out the door I checked my bank card on my mobile app. They didn't charge my $10, they charged it for $29.96 !!!!! I was shocked!! I immediately went back in and ask what was going on with my card. Apparently they charged my card for someone else's ticket. They said it was canceled and wouldn't come out of my account, it may not come out eventually but for 5 days now it's showing as a pending transaction. The $29.96 is not available to me as long as it shows as a pending transaction. I called Dave's on 11-5-2020 and talked to Brad I believe. He said it would fall off pending transaction list that night. #1. Dave's should have told me upfront about this mistake. #2. I should have been offered the overcharge back from cash register. I'll never eat there again, hiding the fact they overcharged me with a smile and a free meal that so far has cost me $29.96. read more
