I've had two different experiences at this store. The first time I went, 10/10!! A million out of 10!! I had an oil leak scare and they quickly fixed it and explained it to me as well as next steps. The second time I went, I called around 7AM and asked if they could fix a side mirror I knocked off really quick. They said yes. I bring it in & ask for a diagnostic. They return it to me with the mirror still broken telling me I'd have to spend around $3,000 and wait two weeks to get fixed. I asked if I could bring a cheaper used mirror I found & pay them for labor and they said no - making me think this was beyond easy repair. I took it home, and my boyfriend fixed it easily with no tools. Disappointing. read more

Another great experience with this team today. Needed tires replaced and an oil change, and was in and out in under two hours. Good price and guarantee along with it. Very responsive, very courteous, and this location in particular had earned my trust. Could I go cheaper elsewhere? Maybe. But you can't put a price on peace of mind. I went to this location after going the the Pflugerville location for years. They were available to do a last minute inspection on the last day to get my registration renewed. They were able to get my info from the other location and told me I was the best tier because of my loyalty and that would give me the best discounts. They did a great job at a reasonable price and told me when to come back for my other services during a time when they are running discounted services. I am completely disappointed with the service I've been given with this company. I took my car in for a check engine light being on. I took "They " claim to have fixed it , few days later, the light came back on , I took it back and was charged again for the same damn code. They got the light off the second time, few wks go by i take it back for the same code now they quoted me $2204 out the door and they don't know what it is, just guessing. The whole time, none of the technicians checked any fluids and that lead me and another shop to notice that the transmission fluid was out. That alone will cause the check engine light to come and read another code. I am a VIP member with Dave's. I took my car in to get the AC repaired and they quoted me $2,900. This number seemed extreme so I paid $225 for the diagnostic with them and went to Automotive Specialist where it cost me $1,900 for the exact same repair. I feel so taken advantage of and will no longer be taking my two cars there. I did not tell Automotive Specialist that I already had a price quote or diagnosis. This is the price they quoted me without knowing that I had went to Dave's for a quote. I have likely spent thousands of dollars that I could have saved going elsewhere. My husband called here the other day to inquire about getting an oil change and brake pads replaced. When he called to get a quote they responded telling him he needs to "take the car in" to get a quote. Wasted his time going there only to find out it cost $1,200 for just the break pads!! I called a car dealer service center shortly after to get a quote over the phone without wasting time driving to the location for both rear and back estimate is $800-900. Saved ourselves $300 today. Customer service includes knowing what we are going to pay upfront without causing wasted time on customers. Please have quote steady beforehand and explain why the mark up. read more

There's a reason they're generally too busy for walk ups-they're damn good at what they do and incredibly customer service focused. They provide excellent information to the customer and not once have I ever heard them try to pressure or upsell someone. They tell you what the issue is, what your solutions are, and get it done right the first time. Even something as simple as an oil change is best done at Dave's-they give the vehicle a multi point look over and send you a picture filled analysis with information and recommendations. Luckily I've rarely needed repair work done, but friends I've sent there have and they've never had anything but praise for the experience. You might find a cheaper shop, but you'd be getting a cheaper experience. Dave's isn't charging top dollar but they're giving top of the line service. read more

It is very telling how this place has not had a good review since last year. I believe they are under new management since the last time I brought my car here and that new management's goal for making money appears to be price gouging customers. At one point, I had given Dave's a glowing 5 star review, because they always took care of me, often sent me away with no repairs b/c I didn't need them, never tried to charge me too much and in fact often helped me out on price. This time was much different. After spending $240 to have my car towed here on good faith, they tried to tell me that it would be $1500 to replace my shifter cable, which was 3x their quote and any other information I can find online regarding the repair. When I refused to get the repair, they suddenly said I owed them $140 for a diagnostic fee. I've been coming to this shop since 2017 and I've never had to pay a diagnostic fee. I was not informed of the diagnostic fee prior to their inspection. I have got past receipts that show me getting my car checked out, not getting the repair and not being charged anything. Their website says nothing about a diagnostic fee. I declined to pay, took my keys and had an honest mechanic help me get the car back to his shop by manually shifting the transmission under the hood. When we got there, he was able to fix the problem with a plastic spatula, because, unlike what they claimed, the cable slipped off the shifter. It still amazes me that companies try to price gouge customers in the internet age. I guess they assumed since I had to have the car towed there, they had me over a barrel. Fortunately, I had another mechanic to bail me out, otherwise, I would have just had my car stuck there with them holding it ransom. If you don't know another mechanic, you do not want to be in this position. Do not take your car here! *RESPONSE TO OWNER First of all, for clarity, the issue was fixed using a spatula as a tool, the spatula was not integrated into the repair. I guess Dave's doesn't have any tools that are the equivalent of a spatula or the repair would have been cheaper. Second, it shows how out of touch you are to call the police on a long term customer (Since 2017) who is unsatisfied and felt extorted. I'm sure everyone reading this review moving forward would love to risk getting the police called on them because they didn't want to pay for something they were not informed of. Of course the owner would love to exaggerate the scene but mention nothing of the manager using language like "get your broke ass off my lot" and throwing other insults. He was in no way professional about the matter. The manager decided to follow me out of the store and antagonize me as I was getting my car going, so any insults he had to endure for trying to rob me was his own choice for following me. They had all my information on file so it was unnecessary to follow me in a threatening manner. Contrary to what Brad says, I have NEVER KNOWINGLY paid a diagnostic fee and I have receipts going back to 2017. Looking at other reviews, they have routinely reduced customer bills by around $140... hmmm what a coincidence...it's like they can add or remove that cost at their leisure. So is it truly so far fetched that it was not added to my bill in the past? I cannot steal a service that I was neither informed of verbally nor signed anything agreeing to a diagnostic fee. There is no signage in their store (at the time) indicating a diagnostic fee and it is not mentioned on their website. Any other mechanic I've been to has you sign a paper agreeing to a fee in advance. When I go to Firestone's website, they have an entire page dedicated to their diagnostic fee. This is one reason I DON'T GO to Firestone. And it's so nice of you to knock $50 off a price that was TRIPLE your quote. That was the insult that broke the camel's back. $1400 = $145 for an undisclosed diagnostic fee $210 for a part quoted at $150 and $50 dollars online $1045 for labor quoted at $3-400 both by Dave's and suggested online ONCE AGAIN, YOU CANNOT EXPECT TO BE ABLE TO PRICE GOUGE PEOPLE IN THE INTERNET AGE...ALWAYS COMPARE PRICES ONLINE! Lets break this down even more. I'm sure you don't pay your mechanics more than $30/h. So at 5 hours that's $150 in labor, $50 for the part and maybe 1 more hour for the diagnostic. So this repair actually costs Dave's about $250. Even with an unreasonable markup of 50% and adding $50 for overhead, that's $425 and they want to charge me $1400. That is 300% markup. Sorry, don't try to run numbers against someone who does it all day. You can claim honesty all you want, but people who know better give you bad reviews...go figure. Oh and by the way...I love how it's somehow your choice to "Fire me as a customer". Clearly I have no intention of continuing to use a service that is gouging me. read more

Wow this place is simply amazing. We recently moved to Round Rock and I needed to find a good auto mechanic to take care of my car. It was about time for an oil change and I found Dave's Ultimate Automotive just a few minutes away. I made an appointment on the phone and it seemed like Brett and his team were waiting for me when I arrived. Though their waiting room was not open due to covid-19, they did have some patio chairs to sit outside. The oil change was done in a very quick 20 minutes. It was very reasonably priced and I received a one time additional discount for being my first time in. Everyone at this location was super nice, friendly and respectful. On my 2013 Chevy Volt (which has been great) I had a check engine light which appeared to relate to a Chevy recall/service notice which should only require a reprogram of one of the computers. They took a look at it and followed GMs bulletin and it seemed to be OK. However, On my second charge, the code came back. I took it back, they took a deeper look and thought there might be a second computer that required programming that GM didn't mention in the bulletin. They did some other checks as well, but found nothing else. I was happy with 3 charges without the error but now it's been almost a month and things are still going good. If I could give this place a zero star rating I would. In June 2017, Dave's replaced my front rotors and pads, and then 10 months later replaced them again under warranty because they were squealing profusely. Now here we are less than 2 years later and my front rotors are warped, and need to be replaced AGAIN. Dave's advised me they would not be replacing the brakes again, because the warranty expired 7 months ago. While I understand that the original warranty expired 7 months ago, the fact that the rotors and pads were replaced with BRAND NEW rotors and pads less than 2 years ago, and already need to be replaced again, is absolutely ludicrous to me. When I called and explained my situation, I was told that the brakes were out of warranty, but to make an appointment and they could "look at my brakes, and see what they could do." When I showed up, I was told there was absolutely nothing they would do. They wouldn't work with me on price either. There's no way of knowing if the brakes were installed correctly, but what I do know, is that I had ZERO issues with my brakes until Dave's started working on them. I don't drive my car hard, and I've put less than 17K miles on it in the last two years. The rotors should not be giving out after 2 years. More importantly, I would expect that Dave's would stand behind their work, and in this case they absolutely did not. I am utterly disgusted, and hope this review serves as a warning that Dave's is more concerned about adhering to a warranty date, then they are about standing behind the quality of their work, which in this case was well below par. I'll be taking my business elsewhere. Dave's - you've just lost a potential life-long customer for good. *In response to your comment below. I appreciate the acknowledgment that you could have done more here, but just so I'm clear, are you only planning on "learning from the experience" and not trying to do anything to fix the issue I still have? The two are not mutually exclusive. ***Updated on 2/20/20*** The owner reached out to me after I wrote my initial 1-star review and expressed sincere concern for my situation. He acknowledged that my brakes shouldn't be failing after 17K miles, and invited me back to one of his locations so they could further evaluate the rotors. They were unable to identify any underlying issue that would have caused the rotors to warp, and offered to replace them again at no cost to me. While I will acknowledge I shouldn't have had to escalate the situation in the first place, Dave's Automotive came through in the end and did everything they could to make this situation right. Took my car to get a FR lower control arm replaced for about $400. They somehow damaged the the ABS wire , and I had to get my car towed to Don Hewlett to get it fixed, cost me $324.25. I needed to get this fixed asap as I was in the process of selling my car and had no choice to get it done. I called Dave's Ultimate Auto shop to let them know, and the manager asked why I didn't bring it back in......Obviously the new manager didn't listen to the part that I told him I had to get it towed on a Saturday......when they were closed. I told him I had all the notes from Don Hewett that expressly noted that it wasn't wear and tear damaged and the pictures as proof of the damaged wired. He told me there is nothing they can do now since I sold my car.......even if I had all this documentation and proof as they needed to do their own investigation. Very disappointed with how this was handled......and decided that it wasn't worth my time to legally pursue this. I Just, hope this helps other customers. read more

Horrible exper I wasnt going to review because I was so shocked by the service I received but you keep emailing me, so here it is. I find it so unprofessional that I brought in my car to be diagnosed for 2 reasons. I stated it in my email when I made my appointment and then when I dropped off my car. It was clear when I dropped of my car that your company was suppose to diagnose two issues. You told me that would 120$ to diagnose. You had my car for 2 full days. The first day no one even bothered to call and update me by EOD that you would need to keep my car overnight. I had to call 2x. Now to the good stuff. I call at 1:30 the next day to see again what is going on with my vehicle and I am told that you diagnosed one issue but would not be diagnosing the other - that you would not be covering multiple issues under one diagnostics fee (which was not the conversation I had when I left me car - so you had my car 2 days - and diagnosed 1 thing) and furthermore you tell me that I need my brakes and roaters done ( i didn't ask you to diagnose my brakes ) i asked you to diagnose my windows! I already knew i needed my brakes and roaters done, thanks!!! So you choose to diagnose only one of the things we agreed on then decided to waste more time poking around stuff I didn't ask for. So to sum it all up - I took my car in for an Oil change and to look at two issues. 2 days later only 1 issue is looked at, you try to tell me information i already know and I still dont know what is wrong with my windows. Even worse - is that my mother told me to come to you. That you have always been so great to her. So she trusted you to help me. And when I told her what happened she said she wont be coming back. Furthermore I asked several of my co-workers if they thought this was bad customer service and they all said yes and said they will not come here. I also took the liberty to put it in the services slack at work, so no one I work with in Austin will be coming to you either. This slack channel covers 1000+ folks!! Thank you! I was not satisfied with their diagnosis of my van's transmission. My van was having trouble shifting to higher gears. They gave me a diagnosis of I needed a new transmission. When I pressed them on how they got to the conclusion, they could not really articulate how they got there. They hooked up their fancy $30000 dollar computer and got codes P0700 and P0605 and P0303 Misfire cylinder. Honestly, I could have gotten these codes from my blue driver and saved myself $154.79. The problem with these garages is they just want to drum up business and charge as much as they can. I get it. Its typical of most shops. To bad. I had high hopes for this shop. read more

He listened to my problem and got the work done in a day. The shop happens to be close to my job so dropping off my car and getting a ride from a co-worker was easy. I brought my 4Runner in to Dave's as I had an A/C failure recently.  I didn't have a lot of time to investigate myself and being that the truck is a 2007, I figured I'd need to find a reputable repair shop sooner or later.  It can be helpful to gauge the trustworthiness of a business on how they take care of small issues like an A/C.     They were very courteous upon calling and walking in, which is always appreciated.  They were able to get me in the next day early and even committed to taking a look at it early for my wife to get it back later in the day to use for work.  This is what I look for in businesses that I patronize.     I like that they offered a 20% discount for first time customers, and the A/C checks that they did give some peace of mind.  As I don't have the equipment to test system pressure or to add or remove freon in specific amounts.     Sadly this is where the good experience ended.  I added an oil change to the service and was surprised to receive a list of 9 additional items that "needed" to be done.  This information was casually mentioned with the price tag of $1,227.  There is no explanation of why the truck needed a tune up, fuel/ air induction service, cooling system flush etc.  It was mentioned as if a $1,200 repair bill was just another day.     This other repair information wasn't even touching on the A/C which was the main reason for the visit.  I was quoted $170 for a blower motor, $303 for a control unit and labor for it all with the $130 fee for A/C service inspection.  Deciding that I didn't want (or think I needed) to pay an additional $638, I declined the service and bought a blower motor from O'Riley for $89 (vs $170) and replaced it myself and now I have working A/C.  I can even understand that they wanted to replace the resistor and I may do that as well, but it wasn't available at O'Riley and standard troubleshooting best practices says to replace 1 component at a time.  The total swap took about 10 minutes.  For this service they wanted $84!  In total they suggested almost $2,000 in "repairs" but with no explanation of why.     Clearly, I don't intend to go back. read more

For my old cars, I got a go-to mechanic that I usually take my cars to, but there's not a receipt for record keeping. Now that my new Lexus ES350 is up for its 30k maintenance service, and to keep the car under warranty, I had to shop around. The quote I got from Dave's is the lowest and most reasonable compared to the quotes I got from the Lexus dealer and nearby independent garages. No upsell, no frills. The staff was professional and friendly since the day I called for a quote, to the day where I dropped off the car and got shuttled back and forth to my house. I saved about half with the 20% first time customer discount. What stood out during my experience here was that when Nathan, the manager, was shuttling me back to the shop from my place, he recognized another customer walking to the shop, and also picked him up as well. That to me says a lot about their customer service. Overall, if you're looking for a shop that goes above and beyond, give Dave's a try. From the time I called them to give them a heads up I was coming with my vehicle being towed to the final day I got my car back, these guys were so friendly and provided ultimate customer service! I was referred by a coworker and their location is convenient to my office. Beau was the service advisor I had. He was friendly. Let me know that they do offer a free shuttle service and loaner if I needed it. I did!!! I felt so fortunate that they offered the service and knew that since my vehicle came in so late on Tuesday I would be without a vehicle. Beau kept me in the loop and was very helpful in explaining my options for repair. This is the most positive place you can take your car to be repaired. I have had service advisors at the dealership either give attitude or just fail to call you back. This didn't happen here. Beau went out of his way to try to get me back on the road soon. Thank you! When you have a mercedes you always worry will the garage be able to hand the complexities that entails. Car wasnt starting. They took really good care of me, replaced my starter, and now car works like a champ. But of course, any garage can do that. It's the little things combined with good quality service that make this the place to go. I've been going here for many years and never had a problem with them. It may not be the cheapest option but you get what you pay for. It is much cheaper than the "european" place that quoted me $500 for an oil change. I can't say enough good things. They accept appointments or walk-ins, have loaner cars or will give you a ride home or work if you leave car. Nathan is my main man and Brett is good too.
