I have been going to David Dru in three locations for something like 26 years. Over the years, he has cut my hair long, layered and curly, short and shaped, punky/spiky, and once again long and layered but smooth. He is a master at that beautifully shaped natural, casual, tousled look that you see on many stars. And it's likely he actually was the one who cut their hair, though you won't hear him name dropping. The one star picture someone posted is not to be believed. This is a master haircutter who works on movie stars and film executives and is beloved by all his clients. I know of more than one A-list star who works with David repeatedly. David has an unusual sculptor's eye and adapts the style you ask for to your particular head shape and hair type --- and if it won't work; he'll tell you why and suggest alternatives. He questions you closely and as a result he is very hip to the vibe you are going for and nails it every time. He also designs color that is absolutely natural, tweaking it during the seasons, your changes of whim, and hair texture. David is kind as well. He nursed me through an awkward growing out period as I recovered from a devastating illness. I now once again have hair that is the envy of my friends. I have had very good experiences at this salon. I have lost track of time but think I have been going for a couple of years. I have tricky hair to cut due to cowlicks and I am SUPER picky about my cut and color. David is very creative on how to manage these part of my hair and has worked with me to get the best shape possible. He really listens to what I want and then makes suggestions on what he thinks would work.-a nice balance. He even showed me how changing my part to the other side was more attractive for my face. Sabrina has only been coloring my hair for a short time and she does a super nice job. She is also creative and accommodating and will change things up as needed. She is very upbeat and sweet which makes for an all around good experience. What is also really nice about all of them is that when I have asked them to tweak something here or there, they do it and don't seem to be insulted by my request. read more

I came in to David Dru awhile back through a promotional certificate I had bought. I was warmly greeted at the entrance, given a tour of the salon, shown to the restroom so I could change into a robe. When I came out of the restroom they brought me their warm Aveda tea. Sabrina did my hair. She gave me exactly what I asked for as far as the cut/style. The deep conditioning treatment was amazing. On another visit I had Andrea for my mini-facial. She was great. She even offered to do extractions at no additional cost. (She gave me the option of the little relaxation massage that was included with the treatment, or the extractions.) My skin looked great afterwards. I went in wondering if I was going to be treated differently because I had the promo certificate, or if they were going to try to up-sell me like crazy. They really didn't do anything other than give me excellent service, and let me know which products they recommend for my hair and skin type. No pressure, nothing awkward. Good stuff. read more

I have been going to the David Dru salon for nearly 11 years and can say nothing but good things about David and his staff. After moving further away, making my commute approx. 1 hour, I didn't hesitate to remain loyal to the great service they have provided me over the years. Not only do I come away with such a great hair style and color, but I feel as if I've had a mini vacation from my chaotic schedule. I was ordered to go to David by the producer of a tv movie I was starring in. He made my hair look terrific, and I am now a lifelong fan (20 years later). My best friend was thinking of dyeing her hair, and her husband objected, saying that seemed phony. She laughed and informed him that ALL women dye their hair. "That can't be true. Not ALL women. For instance, EVE doesn't dye her hair." He'd known me (Eve) for 15 years. Never knew I dyed my hair. And he's not just a clueless guy, my hair really does look like I don't dye it, even though David has to turn greying brown hair into blonde. He weaves at LEAST two different shades, so delicately that you can't see the dye job. He makes sure my hair doesn't become gold or brassy at all (that's a first after 10 years with other stylists). He uses Aveda products, that don't have bleach,and my hair has been healthy (and long!) for years. His prices don't break the bank. He fits me in when I have a sudden job. He will do just the front roots for free in between appts, in a pinch. I mean, really. All the women who work there with him are adorable and kind. She is amazing - precise, thorough with a great sense of color. In addition, what I did not expect, is atmosphere is cozy and friendly. I purchased a groupon not knowing a thing about this place. Seems like most salons in BH are loud, pushy and chaotic. David Dru is the exact opposite. It's a cozy place that feels like you are at the spa. I've been to many salons in BH where people are running around like crazy and its noisy and not a very peaceful experience.. The front desk lady was extremely friendly and chatted with me while I waited. They offer water and tea as well. Ericka cut my hair exactly how I wanted it and she also suggested a great color for hi lites for next time. No pretentious BH people in this place. It's just lovely. Had a great haircut the first time I went here. Scheduled another one for last week. I was very clear on the phone that I needed the earliest appt possible. I was given a 9am appt and assured that it was the first of the day. Great. I showed up at 10 til. My stylist had not arrived, but I was greeted by the owner and asked to wait. At 9:10, the stylist had still not arrived. She called in and said she would be there in a few minutes. By 9:35, nothing. No one had offered to reschedule me and she still wasn't there. I went up to reception and the person at the desk shrugged and said sorry there was nothing she could do. Since I was on a tight schedule, I left. No one ever called me to apologize nor was I offered any type of compensation for my time. I also had to go out of town without a new haircut :( Who knows how long they would have let me wait or when the stylist actually showed up. It sucks because she did a good job the first time but I don't feel like I can go back out of principle. read more

I had already been a client there for almost a year when I arrived for a "trim" in January 2013. During that year I was letting my hair grow long and growing out short layers. Finally, my hair had filled in, filled out and was quite long. When I left the chair I had bangs that were less than 1/4 inch, NO hair on top or sides (it had been brutally chopped) and the sides were not blended. Just a drop-off from my forehead to the bottom of my neck! I paid my bill, walked out without a word -even gave a good tip. (yes I'm an idiot!) By the time I got home I realized that I could not go out in public the way I looked. The 1/4 inch bangs were unacceptable. I had thin little wisps down the side of my head. They were uneven, chopped like a mad butcher got a hold of me. I went to buy a wig immediately. I have not yet gone out in public without my wig. I wrote David Dru a letter telling him what happened to me where I enclosed 3 pictures of myself - 1 before the haircut, 1 after the haircut and 1 wearing my wig.(which looks like the old me) I asked for $200 to reimburse me for the haircut, tip, and wig. I never received an answer, an acknowledgment or an apology at the very least. Very bad business practice! My haircut was the last week in January 2013 and I will probably not be able to go out wigless for another 4-6 months! read more
