I cannot thank this whole team enough, especially Eric, Dustin, and Ramiz. Moving is already an incredibly stressful experience and they ensured the physical moving of our things was SO EASY. My fiance and I were moving from Oakland to South Lake Tahoe. I have been scarred by moving companies in the past (never showing up, breaking our furniture) and was incredibly stressed at how we were going to manage this. We're so lucky we found David's Moving Service. The team showed up the night before our move and pre-packed our furniture and any leftover things we hadn't been able to pack ourselves. Full blankets, wrapping, clothing boxes, the whole deal. The day of our move a full team arrived right on time and packed everything. We had our final walkthrough with our landlord the same day and the team was in and out in about 3 hours, which left us plenty of time to do some last minute cleaning. They met us in Tahoe and put all of our boxes / furniture in the correct rooms and even helped us re-assemble our bed frame and headboard (totally unexpected). I would give David's Moving Service more than 5 stars for making our move such a seamless and smooth process for our family. Let's be real- no one enjoys packing and moving and the dread that hovers over you when you just think about moving heavy furniture and boxes is so real. Fortunately we were able to reserve three people from David's team, Eathan, Alex, and Brandon, and they were the ideal #dreamteam. Communication up until moving day was very quick with David, and the three movers arrived on time, started moving boxes out of our house very quickly, and packed up our 2 bedroom/1 bath plus outdoor space furniture in their truck in a few hours! I had asked in advance for them to also pack our kitchen and they did that all in way less than than I would have been able to do myself. After they drove over to our new house, they unloaded everything and placed everything where we wanted them to. We had a bed delivered to the house earlier and we asked Eathan if he could set up our bed for us and he even did that so we didn't have to worry about it! As a SF native since birth I feel I have a good gauge on what's what in the way of fair & right as it pertains to small businesses in the Bay Area. I've also moved 14 times since birth, with 4 moves in the past half dozen years & have always used movers; I like to support small businesses. That said, this outfit should be put out of business. I have never before experienced such a horrendous nightmare that it's taken me an entire week to catch my breath enough to write a review. If you are planning a move: READ THIS & BEWARE. I had both texted and spoken w/ David a few days prior to my move date. I'm a solo Womxn, was going from Oakland to SF, one bedroom + 20 plants. He suggested two movers and said the job would be done in 4 hrs, 5 if there was a snag. Seeing as I opted for a 2pm pick up and the new place was on the 2nd floor I went w/ 3 movers and a large truck. At 2pm no one showed up / no call or text. I texted and was told they were on the way. At 2.30pm a 16 foot truck arrived - which was not what we agreed on. I texted David and called, his response was: "Can I call you later?" - Long story short he promised a 2nd truck in 20 min. The second truck arrived THREE HOURS later. Meanwhile he was 100% non responsive during those 3 hours. It took them 5.5 hours of packing the house, because the three movers insisted on BOTH breaking down every piece of furnitue bit by bit and wrapping with plastic wrap. Mind you I let them know my furniture is cheap, craigslist cheap, nothing needed to be wrapped but they would not stop which only added three full hours of time to the bill... The two trucks get to the new house at 8pm and they don't start bringing items up until a quarter to 9pm. At this point my new apartment bldg manager is livid, it's a quiet neighborhood and quiet hours on Sunday begin at 9pm. I have three men banging up and down stairs until 11.30pm, the worst way to make a positive impression at a brand new place. My neighbors are still upset. In short I was promised a 4 or 5 hour TWO MAN move - it was a 9.5 hour THREE MAN move: one bedroom apartment w/ minimal furniture. I tipped the three (because it wasn't their fault that their con artist boss made them wrap everything in a saran wrap cocoon (!)) and paid $1400 so with tip close to TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS which was more than half of what we agree upon. I can't stress this enough - there is a con artist running a scam big time here. Do not hire David or work with his company. They should NOT be in business. I'm crushed to have been taken like this, seeing as this is my home turf and I was only trying to help out a small mom and pop biz. Mind you David disappeared at the end of the night and I ended up conversing with someone who very much sounded and spoke like a mafia boss, threatening and ugly, demanding more than $1400. I have since reached out via both phone and text / no response. Moving is such a high stress hectic time in anyone's life to have to deal with a nightmare like I did was pretty terrible. This is the second time that I used David's Moving Service. My first experience with them was excellent. They were on time and moved all of my items as agreed without any issues. My second move was not the case. I received a crew with whom it was hard to communicate in English. They initially tell me they are going to be late and then show up early. They start my move and tell me they'll need to make 2 trips because they brought a small truck (mind you I am paying a hourly rate and had communicated the size of my apartment), the move started a little before 3 pm and didn't finish until close to midnight. They also tell me that they weren't able to fit all of my items in the second load. My flat screen appeared to be in good condition but weeks later when I finally had time to install it, I find that the LED display is cracked. I also just recently realized one entire box, which had mirrors and stain glass windows is missing. At the end of the move, I was asked for tips and I had spent more then 2,000. I attempted to settle the issues with the manager and he told me 1) he'd need to charge 250 to bring the remainder of my items. It was an over the toilet cabinet, swing set, and a cat condo. 2) he would check in with staff regarding the damaged tv and get back to. He never got back to me, so I didn't bother to contact him about my missing box. The move was a nightmare. read more

These guys are amazing. I still can't believe what they did, which is move an upright piano up two flights of narrow, turning stairs. And they did it without a single complaint (I would have been bitching up a storm). Plus, they had to drive for three hours just to pick it up from my brother's garage! This piano means a lot to me because it was my mother's -- it's very precious. I was a little worried that after all that it might have gotten damaged, but they had wrapped it so well with blankets and plastic that it could have fallen down the stairs and not gotten a chink. I just moved from San Francisco all the way to Philadelphia. After contacting at least 6 other companies, I ended up with them as they showed up at my place, appraised the apartment and negotiated a good deal for me. It was also a last minute thing, so everyone else was trying to scam me Big times. I just finished unboxing everything yesterday and my furniture is all perfectly fine, no scratches nor damaged. The guys were quick and also wrapped what I asked them to. The insurance they offered me is also the best I got. Moving can be a scammy business but they explained to me my alternatives and I was able to negotiate the best deal. A couple of companies I spoke to asked 4x more! No joke. Justin and Eric showed up on-time to move 2 empty but heavy filing cabinets, 2 banker's boxes of documents, 1 empty plastic filing drawer, 1 snack table, and a chair, from San Francisco to the East Bay area. The move, from beginning to finish, took 2 hours. They were efficient & careful, and wrapped the snack table & the chair in furniture pads to avoid damage to the fine wood. At the destination, they exercised great care in placing the filing cabinets on top of platforms that I made with stepping stones. Also, they were jolly & courteous throughout the entire process. David Z., the proprietor of the company, was extremely gracious to me from the get-go, and gave me a very reasonable price for a Sunday evening move. I had one day to move my things. The cleaning people were coming the next day. I contacted Dave and I told them what was needed. Years ago I managed a moving company for the city and GSA. Not professional movers. But they provided great customer service and did their best to right the wrongs of the employees that came out to do the job. David, the manager was very responsive and flexible. In terms of loading the items that were packed and ready to go, the 2 individuals that came out moved fast. The problem took place when it was time to disassemble my large king sized bedroom set, dresser and take a TV down from a wall mount. The wall mount was supposed to be coming with me. That's when I was informed that they did not have any power tools and forgot them in another truck. I had to call the manager Erik. He did his best to rectify this situation and compensated me for the time that was wasted on them trying to find tools. In essence, management shared that they were deeply sorry for the mix up of not having the tools. I was given a discount for the trouble. Management went over and beyond to provide great customer service and fix the problem which is greatly appreciated. read more

Overall, the experience I had with David was terrible due to one of his employees (Eric) and the fact that David seemed to have zero control over what was going on during the move. I'd hired 3 guys for a minimum of 3 hours to move our stuff into a 26 ft truck. An hour into the move, Eric shows up saying the move requires 4 guys because our stuff is too heavy and we don't have equipment. I was never told I was the one to provide moving equipment and had thought movers would have moving equipment like a dolly! At this point, I was given no choice but to use all 4 and pay extra or they'll leave. I was stuck, Eric was extremely rude, aggressive and unwilling to compromise at all at this point. I spoke with David multiple times by phone, trying to find a compromise, I even asked for him to get Eric to leave but nothing of the sort took place. The process was infuriating because of Eric's aggressive and unprofessional demeanour and his disrespect for me and the agreement I had made with David. Whatever you do, get a written contract, make sure it's all in writing, and don't let Eric bully you. I had to ask for a refund for the extra money I'd spent once the move was finished. If I hadn't threatened a negative yelp review, I'm not sure David would have given me the refund ($250) as he didn't offer it once the move was finished. I did agree to not leave a review but I've been sitting with the experience and really don't want anyone else to have to go through anything similar. David did tell me he fired Eric, but honestly, I doubt it...which is another reason I'm writing this. read more

I would give 0 stars if I could. I scheduled a move with David's Moving Service a month in advance. The day before the move, they messaged me confirming they would be there the next day. The next day, they never showed, and were completely unresponsive - I called, texted, emailed, messaged through Yelp - to this day, I still haven't received a response. Unfortunately, by the time I realized they weren't going to show, all U-Hauls were rented and all moving companies were booked. They completely screwed us over. I do not recommend. read more

We contacted David less than a week before we needed to move and he was able to accommodate us. He was very friendly and professional on the phone. The movers were absolute life-savers.
